Subject: Help me find a song for my Mom's wedding!

Written By: KKay on 07/21/08 at 7:47 am

She's almost 70.  He's almost 80.
They are tying the knot next weekend and I need a song for the ceremony.

We have two songs for after the service (a gift frrom the musicians in my family) Harvest Moon by Neil Young and Stuck with You from Huey Lewis.

BUT  I need a good walk-down-the-aisle song that's age appropriate yet relatively current.  I really don't want to default to I Can't Help Falling In Love With You.

Ideas?

I LOVE the "Wedding Song" by Noel Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul, & Mary fame) but I don't know about being age appropriate because of that line "A man shall leave his mother". Maybe "Born Again" by Billy Preston and Syreeta Wright.

thanks for the great ideas.  i really like the idea of a song that expresses that it's not just the beginning, but its been going on for a long time..
after 30 years they're finally engaged!  ;D

look how cute they are!

what a cute couple. How old is that pic because they don't look 70 & 80.  I didn't realize they'd been together so long... that's amazing. I assume you like him.

How about Dan Fogelberg's  Longer?

I agree with Cat, I'm down with this one, I think it's suitable for all generations except for that "A man shall leave his mother" part

I know when my mom and dad renewed their vows on their 25th...my mom walked down the aisle to the song, Beautiful In My Eyes...by Joshua Kadison. It's such a beautiful song. :)

Beautiful In My Eyes--Joshua Kadison

You're my peace of mind in this crazy world.
You're everything I've tried to find, your love is a pearl.
You're my Mona Lisa, you're my rainbow skies,
And my only paryer is that you realize
You'll always be beautiful in my eyes.
The world will turn, and the seasons will change,
And all the lesson we will learn will be beautiful and strange.
We'll have our fill of tears, our share of sighs.
My only prayer is that you realize
You'll always be beautiful in my eyes.
You will always be beautiful in my eyes.
And the passing years will show
That you will always grow ever more beautiful in my eyes.
When there are lines upon my face from a lifetime of smiles,
When the time comes to embrace for one long last while,
We can laugh about how time really flies.
We won't say goodbye 'cause true love never dies.
You'll always be beautiful in my eyes.
You will always be beautiful in my eyes.
And the passing years will show
That you will always grow ever more beautiful in my eyes.
The passing years will show that you
will always grow
Ever more beautiful in my eyes.

I know it's not terribly current, but I always liked "Suddenly" by Olivia Newton-John and Cliff Richard.

Or maybe a song like Don McLean's "And I love you so"

I agree with Davester "Time in a bottle" by Jim Croce

Beautiful  - Gordon Lightfoot

In my life - Beatles

Always And Forever - Heatwave

Forever - The Beach Boys

Love Is All Around - Troggs

This Guy's In Love with You By Herb Alpert & Burt Bacharach

I was going to go with Endless Love
I agree with TQ,  in fact, I love this song so much, why I even had my ex-girlfriend sing it at our wedding      I'm rotten, ain't I  ::)

my 2nd recommendation is:  Up Where We Belong - Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes

and then Wedding Song (There Is Love) - Noel Paul Stookey

this would be a good set list

When he said Glen M. I was thinking Benny Madrones Into the Night and I was thinking well maybe mom is young at heart so the "She's just 16 years old " line could work!  ;D

Carlos danced to that song with his daughters at their weddings. Of course at ours, they didn't play that because his 3 daughters were there and he would have to chose or switch off dancing with all of them. lol

I agree!  That's why me and the hubby are someday going to go out and get remarried by Elvis at one of the Las Vegas Wedding chappels.  I had thought maybe we'd have done it this past January for our 5th anniversary, but life kinda conspired against us and we didn't make it out there this year.  I wish Ohio were more interesting, then I could do it with a little pizazz here and avoid the expense of driving 2,000 miles and blowing what money we managed to scrimp together when we get there.  ;D

I once heard of someone walking down the aisle to Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed" and I thought that was pretty cool.

So Amazing by Luther Vandross

(I also loved the suggestion Always & Forever, as long as it's Heatwave--they did the best/original)
