Subject: Welcome Back Mr. Mister

After what seemed it was eternity (in fact, three only months), it is good to see Alan (Mr. Mister) back online again.

He may still be jet-lagged, so be gentle with him.

Welcome back!!!!

Ooh ... too much ! 'tis true. You HAVE started a thread in this regard. Well, thanks.  8) Hope I can live up to the anticipation that some might have ... although I currently don't feel much on form, being preoccupied with other more pressing matters, and do believe I won't have the same amount of time to be online as days gone by.  :-\\    :(  Time will tell ?  8)

The big question is (others may not realise or know), are the birds (parakeets) still attrached to your balcony?

No sign of them yet.  :(  However, I'm quite confident, that in their absence, I have been visited by pigeons !  >:(    8-P  The poops on my balcony, well, white, and the sort they'd leave behind. None actually seen though. The lorikeets, well their liquid poops are dark, and pretty much don't show up on the concrete    8)

I hope to put some honeyed water out tomorrow, or day after .... which might get them back ?    :-\\

Let us all hope the lorikeets do return. You probably find that the pigeons return to, they are a right pest to get rid of.

I DID used to feed pigeons, like them ... even as late as the early  90s. However on returning to London for some years, and finding them roosting outside my bedroom .... well the crap they left was bad enough .... but their noisy sounds  ... and they were building nests a few yards away .... they'd manage to wake me time and again, from the deepest of sleeps, with pillows trying to mute their sounds, both sides of my head  ... cut through like a knife, and I'd wake very angry, very tired to shoo them away, but they'd soon be back ......

It is all down to that pigeons home, there are attracted to the one place, usually where they were born.

I wrote this little song for the occasion, Al.....

Welcome back,
Your dreams were your ticket out.

Welcome back,
To that same old place that you laughed about.

Well the names have all changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they're turned around.

Who'd have thought they'd lead ya (Who'd have thought they'd lead ya)
Here where we need ya (Here where we need ya)

Yeah we tease him a lot cause we've hot him on the spot, welcome back,
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.

Hi Cat. I missed your leather outfit too !  ;)

Are you glad to be home or are you already missing good old Blighty??

Hello Gis.  Well, even though it was I believe the 12th wettest August on record, mostly rain/ overcast during my stay ......I did not mind that at all, as I often strive to avoid sunburn. So, odd that I ended up in Australia.  With constant internet access, I feel less isolated.

As for England, the main thing I miss is my mother / brother ... although I do have to say that the quality of television programming is more satisfying there too, and the tv commercials much less tedious / invasive, generally more sophisticated. However ... that TV licence is certainly not missed.

Aah, nice sentiment ......... 'Lovely to see you again'. Well, I DID recognise this one. It's from a DVD I stumbled across, at my local library several months back .... 'The lost performance' ....... from some Paris nightclub.

Whilst it was great to SEE these guys, perfoming in their heyday (how they looked)  ........ sadly, it was patently obvious to me, that they mimed at least half of the songs at this venue. The only time their was no miming, was when Justin was singing to the backing music (Karaoke style ). I'm sure we never heard any of their instruments live. Just see the comments on Amazon.com,

http://www.amazon.com/review/product/B00023BN38?filterBy=addTwoStar

and they pretty much all agree. Sad to see such competent musicians sell themselves short in this way.

Thanks for the onfo. I've seen them oh God at least 6 times but not in the past 20 years. The performed live not lip syncing.
I think they still rule although those higher notes are getting a bit harder to hit. I am kinda afraid to see them live these days, but WILL  most likely  next winter.

CONGRATS on your  10,000th post
wow, what an amazing trip. I've been inside the Luxor. that place is cool. did you see Cirque Du Solei the Beatles LOVE show at the Mirage? that's a long trip. will there be any pics to share soon?

Yeah re  the pics ....... I've still some organizing to do, but there should be SOME pics from Vegas.

The queue at Luxor to get the booked hotel room (check in) ... did not impress me greatly, but seems standard for a lot of those big hotels.  Also, a lot of drilling / work going on, which I did not expect from an established hotel ...... but some improvements for them (? ).

Even though I'm NOT a 'Cirque Du Soleil' fan ......... I didn't mind seeing the Beatles show you mentioned ......... but turned out ........ that one was NOT available during our stay. However .......... mum did take me one night, to see Elton John (his red piano tour). A day or so later ........ we saw Rod Stewart.  Would you believe his special guest was .......none other than .......

Bryan Adams !  (Two for the price of one ! )    8) 8) 8)

Adams performed for an hour approx ........ before Rod came on.  However, they never sang together on the night  :(

Of the 3 ......... and they were ALL excellent (although Elton has lost a bit of his falsetto, and had others fill in / mask those parts ..... ) ........ I would have to say Rod was the standout.  His voice .......... well, I expected it to be the type that would NOT age well ......... but ........ sounded almost as good at it did in the 70's. As for his energy on stage ............  for someone who IS 63 ........... well, he could've passed for 40-45 !  Amazing / highly reccommended !

Bryan Adams puts on a really good show.  I've seen him in concert 3 times over the years (pretty much in the '90s), he was one of the few artists (other the ZZ Top) that would actually bring his tour to my small hometown arena.

Elton would be a good concert to see too.  I'd have liked to see him when he was touring with Billy Joel, but I have no desire to fight crowds at concert halls now.  Not to mention prices for tickets are way beyond what I can afford anymore.  Oh for the good old days.   ;D  ::)

Mom paid for the holiday ......... everything. Well, I can't afford it.  Did she enjoy it ? I seem to recall her getting up and dancing to one of his songs (Do ya think I'm sexy ? ) ........I think it was that one. Well, for a 72 year old ....... you gotta admire the lady !  (yes she was at the other concert too ... and loved Elton as well).    8)

it sounds like she had a blast. you're a good son spending quality time with your mother. and heck, if my mom wanted to treat me to a vacation, I'd let her if she were around. in fact, now that you say that, 3 years ago, Dianes mom treated her to a New York vacation and I got left home  ???  so I guess mom's like doing things like that for their beloved children  :)

To be totally honest .......... she deserves WAY better than ME.  I know I'll miss her TERRIBLY when she's gone ... I'm not even sure if I might do myself in (yes, I know that sounds terrible, BUT .............. well, I have been a major disappointment, to-date .........  :-[    :-X    :(  ).

I believe she loves me more than anything else in the world ........ her first son ........

There was a 'honeymoon period' ........ of approx. 3-4 weeks, when I first went back ......... but after a while .............

Sharing a hotel room .... did NOT help ........... since we are at opposite ends of the spectrum. She's an early riser / almost non-sleeper, wants to get out and about ......... I'm almost opposite. Further, it was difficult for me to sleep in the room at times, with her moving around. When I don't get my beauty sleep ......... I can get a bit grumpy / irritable ........    :-[    :(

I think a greater major dissapointment would be if you did yourself in, that would be more dissapointing to her, of course when one thinks about these things too much, it can be a bit depressing, but look on the bright side, you're not a in prison for mass murder. I bet she'd see that as a big dissapointment  ;D  I'm no expert, but I think your time spent with her probably means more to her than you may ever know Al. opposite lifestyles can be a bit of a strain though.  I would be like you in the hotel room sharing thing, I'd almost have to have my own room for sanity.

Yeah Mike ....... and I was incredulous she shared a room with me ........ a week after our semi-successful Vegas trip (some lesser bits, better not go into) ..... at a London hotel. Well, I could see she would want to economize ... maybe be in same room as me on my day .... but I think two single rooms were almost same cost  .... little benefit .... so .... but she WAS paying .......... so, I didn't / couldn't say anything.  Anyhow, as for the birthday, we went to Salvador Dali exhibition (his lesser known stuff) .... and later, to the London Hilton ......... where she indulged me in some of my fave cocktails ........ great rum drinks, at Trader Vics (part of Hilton).

Oh yeah .... also that day, went to Seashells ........... the fish restaurant I mentioned to you. Will post a pic later, of the meal I had (took with you in mind).

By the way ......... if I disappear for a week or so anytime soon ........ it will most likely be cos of computer problems.

I was last online around 8 hours back ? ... when, suddenly, everything locked up on my machine. Mouse cursor was unresponisve, 'Ctrl-Alt-Delete' ....... did NOT work,  .......... ultimately, I had to pull the power out. On restart ....... zilch, except a series of long beeps .......... NOTHING displayed on screen ....... that is, NOTHING. Could not even get into bios, let alone operating system (XP).

Spent hours messing around, using all my computer savvy / common sense / trial, and a lot of error. Managed after many attempts, to bring something up, than ... a system restore. Back .............. for the time being, but with low confidence that I'm out of the woods ...... as monitor needs pulling out / reinserting .... to synch with machine / display anything. Was doing this just before I left, 3 months back, so .... something's changed !

With the amount of stuff on my machine, from dubious sources ........... I guess it serves me right, if it's down to some rogue software, that's escaped my defences (anti-virus/trojan/ firewall, etc).

I hope not to have to throw a lot more time, and especially money, to stay online ........

Without the net, I DO feel even more isolated / lost !

Oh, and btw ........ it doubles as my entertainment  centre ....... in that, if machine goes kaput, no TV, AND ... all my mp3s on it too ! A big loss, in the event !

Well ........... I do believe something cool happened at 'Woodstock' .........in 69    :-\\ ............... so, I'll probably settle for 'Woodstock' ........... and a bit of '69'  (Bryan Adams remembers THAT summer too ! ).

Which is pretty good for a guy who was only 10 in 69
Bryan Adams (born Bryan Guy Adams on November 5, 1959)

I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played it till my fingers bled
It was the summer of '69

Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit and Jody got married
I shoulda known we'd never get far

Oh when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Ya - I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life

Ain't no use in complainin'
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenin's down at the drive-in
And that's when I met you

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever
Oh and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Back in the summer of '69

Man we were killin' time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin' can last forever - forever, no

And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when I play that old six-string
I think about ya wonder what went wrong

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me it would last forever
Oh the way you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Back in the summer of '69

By the way, Philip .... perhaps this thread should now be locked (?)  :-\\ ... since some others may be peeved that this thread keeps surfacing over a week after I've returned ? Anyhow, I HAVE appreciated the warm messages !    :)

Damn ... I don't know if my machine has a virus / trojan  ... or whether there's a glitch in the boards software .... but a number of times today, I've gotten an extra smiley (sunglasses) that I definitely did NOT click on !

^  It appears adjacent to another smiley !
