Subject: Favorite name brand items that generics simply cannot replace.

Written By: quirky_cat_girl on 06/27/09 at 6:05 pm

Do you have any favorite name brand items where the generic or other brand of it simply will not do?

Here are a few of mine:

Heinz ketchup.....no other ketchup can replace the taste of Heinz. It's not only a Pittsburgh thing either. ;)

Reynold's Wrap....I've tried numerous other off brands of aluminum foil..but none are as sturdy as Reynold's Wrap.

Cascade dishwasher detergent....I've also tried others kinds, even other name brands....but nothing cleans my dishes in my dishwasher better than Cascade.

I'm sure there are more...I'll post later.

Kraft Dinner - No other brand of Mac and Cheese will do.  It has to be Kraft.

Sony Headphones - The only brand name I trust for headphones

Microsoft - Because Apple technology is garbage

Premium Plus - No other brand of Soda Crackers will do

Chef Boyardee Pasta - Because no name and other brands don't have that same taste.  There's one brand called Mr. Gouda's that is a total turn off because on the label, it shows a kid with spaghetti sauce all over her face LOL ...

I'm with you Erin... Heinz only... and I've never been to pittsburgh  ;D

I think all generic cereal is inferior to the real deal.

tennis shoes.. I have never found an off brand shoe that compares to the awesomeness of brand names like New balance, Nike and the others.

I am all about the Jif.  It tastes more like fresh roasted peanuts!

Same with sneakers.  Nike is the most comfortable and long lasting - for me anyway.

I am fine with eating generic cereal, but I think generic chips taste totally different.  Especially certain flavors like Doritos Nacho Cheese or Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream.

Me too but Carlos does the shopping and he picks up whatever is on sale. We go to a place we affectionately call "The Dented Can Store"-they sell (you guessed it) dented cans, boxes that may have been opened and other stuff at a discount price. Sometimes you get some way-off-the-wall brands that most people NEVER heard of. So, when we need T.P. he just grabs whatever.  ::)

New Balance for long-lasting comfortable sneakers.  I'm partial to Vans for hip stylez.  8)

For chips, Cheetos & Ruffles.

I'm down with Heinz Ketchup also.  Hunts is  8-P

The only taco sauce (not chunky like salsa) I buy is Macayo's.  They're a local restaurant chain and sell their taco sauce at local grocers. :)

Cocoa Puffs - the generics aren't as good.

Same with soda.  It's Pepsi, Coke or RC.  The only flavours of generic soda I usually like are the orange and grape.

St Hubert's chicken sauce (if ya don't live in Canada, ya never heard of it)

Anything with the St. Hubert logo on it is a must for me.  BBQ Sauce, Gravy, Poutine Sauce and the Chicken Sauce.  Sometimes I am guilty of buying Heinz gravy, but only when I am at a store that doesn't sell the St. Hubert's brand

I loved going to St. Hubert's restaurant when I was a kid, but the one that was in town here left long ago.  I guess all (or most) of the St. Hubert restaurants are Quebec based now

WOW!  Those are the same ones I would have posted!  Plus, Blue Bell ice cream.  I see I'm also not the only Nutella fan here, either!  A friend of mine from Quebec introduced that to me when I was expecting Matthew....and I've loved it ever since!

Seriously, though, I'm kind of a brand name girl.  I have lots of things that I would never try an off brand of.  Call me spoiled, I don't care...nothing but JIF peanut butter for me, either.  And Smuckers jams and jelly.

Ok, I'm leaving this thread before I start sounding TOO high maintenance... :D
