Subject: Most useless vehicles ever built!

Written By: loki 13 on 07/19/09 at 11:51 am

I was sitting in a Home Depot parking lot this morning and noticed that it was filled with the most useless
vehicles ever built. I am talking about Luxury SUV's, there's an oxymoron if every I heard one. You can't
haul anything with any size because it won't fit. Face it the only thing you can haul with a SUV is a weeks
worth of groceries, even then it will be cramped. People forget what the purpose of the SUV's were, off
road fun, there shouldn't be anything luxury about it. It was fun though watching a guy try to shove a
lawnmower in one.

Another useless vehicle, the shortbed pickup with a full cab, it hauls more people than equipment. If you
want a vehicle to carry people get a damn van or buy a car. Again though, it is fun to watch a guy try and
put 8 foot sheets of drywall in a 4 foot bed.

While I'm on the subject, did you ever see a person buy a large screen TV and they went to the store in compact car
or midsize car. The hilarity that ensues watching them try to get the box in the vehicle. ;D

I couldn't agree more. My SIL-who I love dearly, has an SUV. When we asked her about it, she said that she wanted a big enough vehicle for when people come to visit that would hold everyone + their luggage. Carlos & I realized that our Honda holds just about the same amount as her SUV.

Oh, and in my book-the most totally useless vehicle has to be the HUMMER!!!!

The Hummer has one use, The military kind of likes 'em, other than that, I agree.....Useless.

Cat, you live in the Northeast so I'm sure you'll remember. Quite a few years ago there was a nasty winter that pelted
the Northeast with a few huge snowstorms. People panicked and the four wheel drive craze was on. Dealerships couldn't
keep them so the manufactureres decided to cash in on the craze and the luxury SUV was born.

I am a firm believer: If you want luxury buy a car, if you want utility buy a truck, if you want sport buy an off road but never
combine the three. If a product does more than one thing, rarely does it do one thing well.

Hummer's are gas guzzlers.  They are gigantic, take up all kinds of space, and create nothing but a nuissance on the road.  Military use - OK.  Everyday use - Not Ok.

How about those three wheeled cars you see in England?  Why they hell would anyone want a car with three wheels? ???

Because when they first came out they were classed as a motorcycle and you didn't need to pass a test to drive/ride a motorcycle.

Great thread Kevin, although I have to disagree with you - but only because we drive an SUV - although not a luxury one like some idiots! ;D

We own a Mercury Mountaineer.
Yep - an SUV, if you can call it that!
See, we have to buy a larger vehicle in order for Big Nasty and The Son to fit!
Now, our Mountaineer is a V-6. Almost pointless you would think right? Nope.

We get 23.7 mpg highway, actually have seen it 24 on one particular trip to Maryland. Something else fascinating... we went from Northern New York to South Eastern Maryland on one tank of gas with a bit to spare. That being said, I should also say that we use Mid-Grade gasoline. We also make sure that the oil is changed regularly, the air filter is changed as well, and that the tires are filled and equal. All of these things determine gas consumption in SUV's. The sad thing is that a lot of SUV owner's don't really pay attention to this stuff. They just fill 'er up and off they go again.

Now, the Mountaineer is a cross between the Ford Explorer and the Lincoln Navigator. They offer 3 different types of Mountaineers. There is a regular one, a Premier one and a Luxury one. We chose the regular one. Not to mention that we bought used, a 2006 model, and I did a ton of research on everything we were looking at.  It isn't a 4x4, ours has AWD with Advance Trac w/RSC (basically traction control), third row seating, trailer tow package, roof rails and fog lamps. Of course it also has the air bags - canopy and side and back - the whole shebang.

We towed a UHaul trailer from Texas to New York. We also only used 3 gas tanks from there to here. As well, Big Nasty, The Son, myself and our 2 cats and dog all rode the entire distance together! The cats out of their carriers as well. If it weren't for the Mountaineer, I don't think we would have ever made it in the amount of time we did, in the limited budget we had, or with everything that we had to bring with us.

Big Nasty swears by the Mountaineer. It is amazing in the snow and even better in torrential downpours! It has all the leg room he needs, and then some. Granted, it does get a little expensive to fill the tank up, so we always make sure (or at least try to make sure) that around half a tank we fill it up again. We love our SUV, and if the time comes where we have to trade this one - you can bet we will be getting another Mountaineer. ;)

I was gonna suggest the Chevy SSR^  as the most useless vehicle ever, but the Suzuki X-90 takes the cake. I hate those things with a passion and think that anyone who drives one should be forced to have the word "DUMBASS" tattooed on their forehead.

The Suzuki X-90 is as useless as tits on a boarhog.  ;D

For a car to run on electricity, how long should the supply cable be so that the car can run around town?

I think it should be a pretty long wire for it to run a long time.

The last part of this sentence is what I speak of. I don't begrudge anyone who owns a SUV and uses it like an SUV. It's useless to
mix luxury with sport, the Escalade, the Expedition and such. It's bad enough to have these useless vehicles but the people who
put low profile tires on them make it worse.

I was behind a guy driving an explorer, he was turning right from an uneven road. The guy babied the vehicle up a two inch
incline, one tire at a time and real slow. The kid down the street owns a Bronco with a snorkel, rarely is it not covered in mud.
Now I ask, which one bought the right vehicle?

The luxury SUV is a status symbol and nothing more, completely useless as anything else.

I have an SUV and it isn't luxury.  Jeep Cherokee Sport.  Complete with dings and a owner who is not afraid to put down the back seat and haul stuff.
