We are home. I'm sure everyone is wondering how Charlie is doing and what happened.

Warning
: This may be a bit graphic so if you have a weak stomach, you may not want to read.

Saturday afternoon, Charlie went into the bathroom to pee and blood came out. He called his doc who said that it may clear up and to call back in about an hour. It didn't clear up and his doc said to go to the E.R. in Rutland. By this time it started to get a bit more painful. After waiting to be seen in the E.R. he was in agony and was in the bathroom basically screaming in pain. They finally put a catheter in which eased the pain for a bit. But then the pain increased. What was going on was the fact that radiation made either his bladder and/or prostate weak which caused the original bleeding. Most of the time it would clear up by itself. However, Charlie clots real quickly and instead of just peeing out the blood, the clots created a blockage and was clogging the catheter-which had to be changed several times. They kept trying to keep him irrigated but he kept clotting. About 2 a.m. we took an ambulance ride to Burlington. We could have stayed in Rutland but the only urologist was "Bove the Butcher" and Charlie said that he didn't want to even see him across the street. (His primary doc didn't want him to see "Bove the Butcher" either-and his urologist who he was seeing prior to having the radiation was in Burlington.) Because they thought that Charlie WANTED to go to Burlington rather than HAVING to go, they wanted over $1100 up front for the ride. They said "in cash" like we carry that amount of money on us. I asked about taking a check and we were told that they took credit cards, too. Hopefully, the insurance company will reimburse us since his primary doc wanted that.

Once in Burlington, they still tried to keep him irrigated but it was the same problem and they still had to change the catheter several times. Finally, they said that he needed surgery. His bladder was full and was not draining. It was HIS urologist that preformed the procedure which was equivalent to "roto rooter." That got rid of most of the clots and his bladder is now able to drain normally. His pee is still bloody but that is because he had something like 7 catheters in a 24 hour period and not to mention all the irrigation he has had-so things are really tender inside. He still has to wear the catheter for about a week until he has a follow-up with the urologist. He needs to take it easy and drink plenty of fluids. The only pain he has now is every now and again his bladder will start to cramp. He has been taking some meds for the pain but only takes it once in a while-and not a big dose.

He was discharged from the hospital last night and we went to his daughter's first. By the time we got there, his pee was red again (it was actually yellow when we left the hospital). We were told that it was because he moved around a lot. We were told that it would be better if we stayed in the Burlington area in case he needed to go back to the hospital. So, we spent the night at his daughter's. Today, it is a bit on the pink side but we are now home and will be home at least until next Monday when he has his follow-up.

Charlie's kids have been wonderful. Not only did they give me a place to crash, but gave me something to sleep in and to wear so I could wash the clothes I had been wearing for a few days. They also brought us and home and even got Charlie's car from the E.R. parking lot in Rutland.

So that is the story. And I am really, really tired.

Tough times...
Other than drinking lots of water/fluids, which helps for the short term, hopefully the urologist will suggest something long-term so that this doesn't happen again.

Thanks everyone. I do want to share something with everyone. Last night, after I realized that I wasn't going home, I must admit that I got a little testy with people. (I apologized later and explained that I was over-tired, and just wanted to go home-they did understand but I think they appreciated the fact that I did apologized.) A while later (about an hour or so) I was just sitting in a chair, waiting to get into the tub & basically zoning, when granddaughter #1 climbed on my lap. And then she said the most remarkable thing. She said, "Sometimes you just have to be patent. Being patent means that you care." I am just amaze that a 6 year old can be so profound.

WTH would my husband who has never cooked a thing beyond frozen pizza.  Get out flank steak and announce he is making fajitas.  NOT that I do not think these are out of his capability.  BUT he didn't even consider looking at a recipe.  He chopped flank steak so thick, we might as well be eating bull tongue (for as tough as it is).  He didn't know it needed marinated or seasoned.  And he chopped the 1 green pepper he used and onion (for 3 lbs of flank steak).  I just am not in the mood for this, I feel like sheesh and he decides he is going to cook - and really it is still me....  When I "asked" him to cook I asked for him to open a jar of sauce and cook some noodles.  So far I have had to marinade it, and then stand over him.  Hell I might as well have cooked it myself.  IF He WANTED FLANK STEAK WHY did he not just grill it.

Sorry it seems very petty, I am just annoyed.

I disagree, it's not that petty and you've a bloody right to be annoyed. anyone can cook with a recipe. he needs to go online and pull a steak fajita recipe, follow instructions and sit back and watch his family enjoy the feast  8)  you just gotta lead him in that direction

Then taking the car to get the windscreen repaired/replaced.

Couldn't repair the windscreen.  The crack/chip is small enough to be repaired but the technique used doesn't work on wet glass (and it was raining!)  However by the time I take it back the crack will have probably grown meaning that the whole screen needs to be replaced!

They spent some time calling to get approval to replace the screen.  Turns out they were calling my home number - no clue who they thought would answer!

I STILL feel ICKY - but it hasn't got me down as badly as my husband.  HOPEfully I am kicking this craps ass, with all my Hall's Defense and Cold-eze (why can't they make that stuff in a pill - those lozenges suck :P).  Taking Claritin D Daily, but my cough keeps getting worse :-[

Feel better Sami.  :)

I would also like to add that there were lots of people taking this test; they had also applied last month for this job at the library and were summoned to come take the exam.

Today I went to visit my best friend with another friend. We drank tea ,ate lots of cake and shrieked with laughter a lot, great afternoon.

currently feeling annoyed.  In January I tried to register the kids for the local recreational soccer teams. The club started using a new form for on-line registration which wouldn't allow James or Elizabeth's entry because their age is "wrong" for the grade they are in.  So I e-mailed them, was told they'd look into it but contact them if I hadn't heard anything.  I contacted them again over the weekend and was told they were in the system, not to worry.  Just received an e-mail saying Elizabeth is on the wait list probably because they think we missed the registration deadline!  pissed off

Of course it is. 8) That's more or less what we thought after we finally got some plants planted in our backyard in mid-2001. In our first four months of living at our new home, we didn't have anything in our yard area other than undeveloped dirt and a buncha weeds which sprouted up....until we finally did something about them in June of that year. Since then, our backyard has come a long way. :)

The scary part is that we were up in the very top row and when I started to climb to get up there I had a panic attack and almost refused to go up to my seat, it took Tim a good 20 minutes to calm me down because my 2 worst fears are heights and falling. Once the concert started and I realized I wasn't going to fall everything was cool.

Got home at 5.00 am ..... alarm went off at 6.00 am and now its just after 7.00 am and I'm about to head off to work!

I bet I'll be asleep at my desk by 11.00 am :o  ......instead of the usual 2.00 pm!  ;)  ;D

Hope Mrs. gibbo is feeling better.  I had a stone about 5 years ago, it wasn't fun.  Although if you get sick in the ER admittance area you get a room sooner :D

For those who read Cat's report of my latest medical issue, it was a delayed reaction to last year's radiation therapy.  I'm now on a med that should prevent a relapse, the catheter is out, and I feel SOOOO much better.  Thanks to all for your concern.
that's real good news Carlos. I've been including you in my prayers for healing and renewed health.. 8)

Just got back from lunch with Dai.  Taco Bell were rubbish!  We ordered our food around 12.10.  At 12.40 we asked for a refund and went across the car park to Pizza Hut.  Had a lovely pizza and we were out of there around 1.20
what did you get?  I've been eating Taco Bell for 40 years and I'm here to tell ya that you have to stick with the original Crunchy tacos and bean burritos or tostadas, or the 1/2 pound beef combo burrito.

We ordered the specials they were advertising.  Dai wanted the 2 shrimp taco and I chose the combo (1 shrimp taco, 1 steak taco).  We got a tray of about 12 items, none of which were shrimp tacos, followed by a bag with our items in that Dai had seen them cook about ten minutes earlier.

So we went to Pizza Hut and had a large chicken supreme pizza for $10.  And, oh sweet irony, when I got home there was an e-mail from Pizza Hut promising $10 off my next order based on my previous complaint over their crappy service!

I think I'll do it before I go to bed. I'm always good about that. There are a few that will auto-adjust (iow, we don't have to worry about setting them), but the others need to be manually adjusted.

But your sentence reads as though you are saying the US as well as wherever it is that ninny lives.

Anyway.  last night just before going to bed I heard a crash outside.  This morning we found a tree had blown over in the high winds.  It is next to our driveway, but blew over into the woods.

Dried up this afternoon so we went for a walk in some woods in town.

My back is really killing me. It has been bad for several weeks now. We were supposed to the chiropractor LAST week but it was pushed back because of Carlos. Now I just have to wait until tomorrow. This morning, I woke and up with the usual morning back pain but nothing I couldn't live with. Then when I was sitting reading the paper, all of a sudden, one spot on my back just started to feel like a knife was sticking in it. I could see if I woke up like that because I may have slept wrong or if I was doing some kind of activity that I could have pulled something-but I wasn't. I was just sitting there, not really moving. Very strange.

Could it be sinus/allergies?

As for us, we have an appointment with an ophthalmologist today. We just want to get new glasses scripts but the the local optometrist really sucks (been there a few times) so Carlos' doc recommended this guy-who he trusts much better than the optometrist. Unfortunately, since this will be our first time there, they will dilate our eyes to get a base reading so to speak. I REALLY, REALLY hate getting my eyes dilated.

I won't be able to see for the rest of the day.  ::) I just want to get new glasses.  :-\\

Cat

The guy I went to see said this was optional (though recommended)  I promised to make an appointment to have it done some time.  I've never had it doen; Dai and the kids say it sucks.

Out and about this morning; school stuff, library and met friends in Barnes and Noble coffee shop.  Just on my way home when the school nurse called - James isn't well.  So I went to fetch him home.  He's in bed now asleep

Earlier today I was tired in my Embroidery class but when I went to the gym immediately afterwards, I gradually began to feel relaxed and refreshed.  When I came home, I found out that a new resident, a young lady called Susie, moved in. I spoke to her a lot this evening and got to know each other more.

Over the weekend we did Special Olympics basketball-lost 4 for 4.  The good news is, Youngone danced the night(well 2 hours) away with a very nice young lady, gave her his Mardi Gras beads and announced that he had just had his first date  :)

I am going to have a CT scan today.  I'm not sure what is wrong with me, but I'm sure it's nothing serious.  Probably my gallbladder.  I know that I have kidney stones, and some problems with my ovaries, but I've been having some really bad abdominal pain lately and it's getting worse and worse.  And I've been really nauseous after eating.  So I have to drink a bunch of stuff today that will make my insides glow and they are going to take a look.  And I can't eat for the rest of the day.  I think that's the worst part!  Anyway, we will see what happens.

The system is that when you want to move back to the UK you have to apply to fill any vacancies in your work area.  The company will give you a job in the end but it might not be what you want to do.  For example a couple of years ago people went back and ended up like supply managers filling in to cover sick leave in various departments until they got permanent positions.

I wish it was the latter. But the concert was OUTSTANDING!!!!! What a wonderful performer. This was his "Bare Bones Tour" where it was just him (playing guitar & harmonica) and his piano player-no band. I was waiting for him to play my absolute favorite of his. He asked for requests and I wasn't the only one who was shouting for it. But he didn't play it. He then left the stage without playing it. Everyone was on their feet yelling for an encore and after he came back on stage, again he didn't play it. I kept hoping that he would play it but I get getting more and more afraid that he wouldn't. He basically played another set as an encore and, (I think it was) the second to last song of the night he FINALLY played it:

Man, if I wasn't so in love with Carlos, I could seriously see myself falling in love with Bryan. The guy is a romantic (which it is obvious in his music) and I do so love romantic guys-which is why I fell so hard for Carlos.

If anyone gets a chance to see him in concert, I HIGHLY recommend it. It was one of the BEST concerts I have ever gone to. He ranks up there with Meatloaf as in putting on a WONDERFUL show.

I will second what Cat said.  I've seen him 3 times in concert (in the 80s/90s).  Great shows.

I had the worst headache I might have ever had in my live a couple days ago.  After clearing my nose enough to smell,  It's blood.  Had to have been a whole vessel or something.  Anyway I'm going to the doctor tomorrow morning to make sure there's not an infection or anything bad going on.  Something seems sore by or in my right ear.

We found out that Missy lost the baby, she went to the doctors and they sent her to do an ultrasound because they could not hear the heartbeat. A doctor came in after and told her she lost it about 4 weeks ago, but her body has not realized it yet. She is having a D&C on Friday..We are all very upset.

My doc tor was on vacation so I saw someone else, but yes I have and infection that I am now taking drops for.  I also had my titaniam thing dangling so that got removed, so I can't hear sheesh in my right ear now.  No explination for where the blood I've been smelling came from or why my head hurt so much.  Trying to listen to speech best I can through my left ear and if my mom asks me one more time if I can hear her now, I'm going to kill her ( damit just talk).  Stupid ear drops,  my ear feels all full and heavy.

right now I know my hearing is not going to improve.  I don't know if I'll hear speech at all with the CI, because I never heard speech correctly in the left ear.  Maybe after the CI and the infection gets fixed,  I can get another bone replacement.  Maybe I'll just end up deaf and manage to get myself to remember and recall ASL enough to get by :\'(  Enough said, got to start practicing sign and continue using my ear drops for now.  to be continued

It will improve one way or another.  If not hearing, I'm good at drawing, painting and stuff.  I should have been taught sign language while I was a kid.  Sometimes I wish I was born deaf in the first place so I would have never have heard music.  I sometimes wish i'd never been born at all (Ill, carry on, something here must matter)

Hey, they say you got to go through hell before you get to heaven.  Might have a real nice room up there.

Dai got back yesterday evening.  He thinks the interview went well, so fingers crossed he gets this job.  We are just finalising our plans to move back.  It will take about 6 weeks to ship the furniture so we need to sort out that date first.

We are going out tonight for dinner or a movie or something.  The PTO have arranged for the High School key club to babysit at James's school so the parent volunteers can have a kid-free night out!

what it's like right now, losing music feels like losing a loved one, at least to me it does.  Whats worse is my unlife, maybe kind of like being born in L raised in L by a demon and thrown on earth in Hotel California to figure out how to live.  Just trying to do whatever I can that's right.  That's all I can do right?and it's been way to easy in the past to feel sorry for myself, put myself down, and accomplish nothing.  I gotta keep on trying to do something even if I'm doing what seems to be nothing.

I've decided I wasn't going to let myself get depressed this year so I can continue making progress.  I'm sure I'll be back for hugs 60 zillion more times as I go through times of break down, but I have no need to feel sorry about myself.

Missy goes back to the doctor's on the 7th. She is doing better, she says she tries not to think about it.We're upset because the nurse in recovery gave her the shot for being RH negative and said that's to prevent future miscarriages, which has us wondering if that was a factor. I know that after Daniel was born he checked out ok, but if she had a different partner the results may not be the same.

Some good news this week, Tim called are electric company to complain on why our bill was higher than other people that have the same company, and we found out they have over charged us by $1,500 and our sending us the money :)

Last week James fell off a skateboard and cut/scraped his elbow.  He was at a friends house so they just stuck a band aid on it without showing the friends dad.  During the week I took the band aid off and noticed the cut loking a bit scuzzy so I cleaned it and dressed it.  Still looked manky so I cleaned it and dressed it again Thursday.  Still looking manky and has patches of pus around it today so I took him to the emergency room.  In converstation with the doctor it turns out that James can't move his arm properly so she sends him for an x-ray!  Result of possibly broken elbow (radial head).  I need to call back soon to check with the radiologist.  ::)  He currently has his arm in a lsing but it might need setting and casting.  Plus we have a prescription for anti-biotics for the infected cut.

I hope he gets better soon. :)

um, I don't think I want to go right now, I hate not being able to hear people.  Everyone else wants to go, so I'll go and hope I can keep myself out of depression.  It's a wedding for I forgot which particular relative of ours at the moment.  We'll be leaving for San Diego on the 8th and driving home all day on the 11th.

added Yeah I know it's a wedding good thing, I'm just a whatever

you've been talking about wanting to be free from your mom's rule.....if you really don't want to go couldn't you just stay home?
has your mother ever let you stay by yourself for an extended period of time? I don't know the full dynamics of
your situation so maybe I'm out of line but it seems the first step to breaking from your moms control is by exercising some independence

^  I'm not sure if I'm ready for my parents to be that far away from me for four days.  I'll do anger management with my mom a little closer to home.  You're right though it's just that when you've been drained of your confidence sometimes you're just too afraid.  I'll use this to my advantage in the fact that I cant just keep hiding from people.

Ouch, sorry to read this Karen. I hope James makes a safe recovery and can get on the skateboard as soon as he can. :)

I went for my last swimming lesson and swam in the deep end so that was quite an accomplishment. It's a shame I have had my full 6 sessions. I will go for a swim regularly at the gym I go to.

I also went to a memorial to remember Jesus's death as part of the Jehovah's Witnesses called 'The Passover', simply because we pass the bread and the wine to the next person on the right.

I am debating to let my license lapse. It is up for renewal and I have until Thursday to do. Over the years, I just mailed in the renewal. Now, they are saying that if I haven't had a pic in the last 7, I need to get a new one. I have NEVER had a pic on this license. I guess I could have Carlos drive me to the DMV and hopefully, they won't have me take an eye test-and if they do, I may be able to cheat on it.  :-\\  It is not like I will ever drive a car again but... I just don't know.

Today after lunch I was running down the stairs to catch the subway, and I fell down 5 steps, have 3 cuts/scrapes on my left leg, broke the big toe nail off my left food and it's swollen, and my right ankle is a little swollen. I have never fallen down the stairs before.

No worries, I'm OK. Just a little painful. A few Advils or Tylenols will help. (just a flesh wound...Monty Python fans might get this.. :D)

But it was lunch time, many people were around, dozens were going down the stairs. Dozens were on the platform.  Not one person asked me if I was OK, not 1 person even looked at me or tried to help.  :-[
I'm either invisible now, or they thought I was self sufficient.

Well I think the family has finally broke the Coughing Crap that we have had for the past 3 months.  Terrible fits of cough, congestion and sore heads (and every time you cough you feel as if your head is going to explode.

The house renovation is at a stand still.  The trimwork was going up, when I finally was fed up with the contractors this weekend (we were upstairs priming and painting).  The trim (are just regular pine 1x4s and 1 x 6's ) and the contractors are just cutting them off and putting them up (hell I can do that), they haven't sanded the edges or anything else.  The electricians got sloppy (and put switches too close to the doors - where trim is supposed to go.  So contractors just cut a space out around them (I do not know what else was supposed to be done- but CRAP I hate things to look like a patch job, when I am supposed to be paying professionals).  I asked my husband (as he writes out all those checks - I am not able to on that account) about were we were at on "budget"???  Husband - "what do you mean?"  Me "like we have this much total money to spend; where are we at on the upstairs, in order to get everything else we want to get done done???"  Hubby - "Uhhhh I don't know"  Me - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH  I am going to try and tile the girls shower and bathroom floor (saving us 1750 dollars), wish me luck.  Looks like this stuff will be the stuff I am doing for the "holiday" weekend.  :P

That is my life in a nut shell.

I hope whoever is sick or in pain, to get better.  I congratulate all of you with good news.  AND lots of love to all of you!

I hear ya about contractors who aren't worth the $$$$ you pay them. We are taking the one we hired to small claims court. The peninsula he "built" has to be rebuilt because it is basically a real sh!tty job. I'm not much of a carpenter but I could do a better job than he did.

As for contractors, I have heard so many horror stories that I'm gun-shy to hire anybody to remodel.  You should contact Mike Holmes from the HGTV show "Holmes on homes".  If he can't help ya, at least he'd be lovely to look at.  :P
