May is only a few months away... so how you gonna be doin'? I'll be fine if this snow melts.

Busy day for a Saturday.  We bought Elizabeth a violin!  The place we rented a violin from has a rent to own scheme so we got a reasonable amount towards the cost.  Still wasn't cheap

then to James's school to view the art show.  There are some very talented children there.  following that James had a soccer match - his team lost (again)  :-\\

After lunch Elizabeth went to a friends house and then I went shopping for more stuff for teacher appreciation week (starts Monday!).  Spent the rest of the afternoon preparing a quiz for the teachers.  Mad dash to get dinner ready (totally lost track of time), then watched tv and made posters for the school entrance hall.

More preparation stuff needed tomorrow, plus gettimg James to deliver food drive collection bags to the neighbours for Scouts

#1.... they were probably too busy to get it done yesterday.

#2....it was not posted because it probably was not finished yet

#3....it was probably in a book because someone was still working on it and taking a break

Tape off  gettin  it off change the ball of cotton
Tape of f n it off there must be a way

just the stiches left and they really don't hurt much at all, just an occaisonal ouch.  The doc will remove them on the 11th.  Interesting, I picked up my glasses this morning and the screw feel out.  I guess I can put my glasseses on without the left arm hitting my stiches.  The only problem I seem to really have now is that I don't have any energy to go to bed now.  Guess I'll have to grab a fun size candy to suck on, sleep on a Milky Way tonight.

Yeah Karen, I've always had big dogs and once had a medium sized. My apt is small tho and I had to teach Carly the phrase 'go that way' which meant backup!  Good thing tho bc when we we're hanging in the side of the ravine I was able to get her to go backwards instead of forward!!

So I think a small dog was a good choice.

Oh Q, she's adorable!  How did you go about acquiring her?

gis - feel better hon!

As for me - I am finally seeing some results for our efforts of sorting and cleaning.  Still ALOT to do, but continually making progress.  Today we visited one of hubby's friends (who lives in a big house alone) and his place is spotless.  I SO want my house to look similar.  It inspired me to work my butt off this evening.

Met my mom and dad for lunch this afternoon, we both drove halfway and met so that neither of us had a big distance to travel.  Unfortunately mom and dad bickered the whole time and when one would get me alone, they would complain/harangue on about the other.  I HATE  being stuck in the middle with them.  So stressful.

Now I am tired and need more weekend.

2 doctor appointments tomorrow.  Blech.

Congrats on making strides in your organizing!  sorry about the stressful visit with the parents and the 2 drs appts tomorrow....erm...today.

Initially I was going in to look at another dog. One I'd been tracking for a couple months. When I finally decided I went back to the website to send my mom the link. I then saw the pic of the dog I adopted.  I told my mom the dog I'd been looking at was my first choice and this new one (she wasn't on the website the day before) was my second....honestly I thought about adopting both- but the dog I initially went for had some personality quirks that would've been fine it it was just me but I had to think of the landlords so I opted out of that dog and decided on trying for my second choice... I think fate played a hand tho because, as I said she wasn't on the website the day before and when I went to the shelter she was in the first kennel I looked in just staring up at me....  :)

Teacher appreciation week this week.  Started with breakfast in the staff room.  Principal told us there were about 65 staff so we catered for that many.  I'd say about 20 or so came to breakfast  :-\\

Mad panic putting posters around the classrooms.  The co-chair said she would do it before the teachers got in, but she started off doing all the rooms except the teachers  :-\\  Three-quarters of an hour after she started she was just starting the teachers rooms.  I ran around and did most of those in about 10 minutes

I ran around and did most of those in about 10 minutes

that's ridiculous! how could she forget/neglect/overlook the teacher's rooms

My brother & his wife stopped by on their way out of town. It was a nice visit-but that mainly because it only lasted about 1/2 at the most. If it was any longer, it might have been a different story.  :-\\

I guess it was just the way she'd grouped the posters at home.

It's raining here.  Elizabeth is hoping her soccer practice is cancelled.  She hurt her hand yesterday (punching James) and that stops her kicking a ball apparently!

Beautiful day... Girls t-ball practice tonight and I threw together a chicken enchilada "casserole" (because I did not want to take the time to roll them - so it is all the stuff layered like a lasagna).  We got 10 cubic yards of mulch to put down and seems as if we will be mulching for days...  Bottle calf chores - unfortunately our bottle goat did not make it (we built it a pen on Saturday and all was good; Sunday morning eldest girl ran out to feed it and it was gone :\'()  You win some, you lose some...

No, that isn't a Madame AlexdandER doll. (They had one at the auction last night). It looks more like a duchess doll-but it is only a half doll. I have to do some research on it to find out exactly what it is.

BTW, which shoes do you like? The wooden ones or the delft? Or both? I think the delft is BEAUTIFUL!

We are doing a luncheon for all the staff.  And gift bags.  And favours.

Last night I wrote out 65 labels for the gift bags.  I am getting the last bits for the favours this morning and then getting them ready.

Apparently it was also School Nurse appreciation Day and canteen staff (or perhaps it was custodial staff) appreciation day so we have to give them special extra gifts as well.  ::) My friend wants to know when is it Parents Appreciation Day!

They're still working on the road I live on. They've managed to create something of a dirt road, with parking places on one side and a sandpit on the other, basically.
Yesterday I noticed some people moving in furniture from an open top lorry that was parked in the sandpit with its real wheels. When finished, they couldn't get the lorry out again. Apparently it's rear wheel driven, 'cause it's still there now... ::) I wonder what they'll try next.

Went up north yesterday. Had dinner with the kids (and grandson  :) ). And today, I FINALLY took my step-son's ballet class.  ;D ;D ;D ;D  I had trouble with my balance and a few other things but otherwise I was able to keep up. I think I impressed him on how much I have retained considering it has been decades since I have taken a class. He did tell Carlos that at least I didn't wimp out half way through (which some people do). I told Carlos that there were a few moments when I thought about it.  :D ;D ;D ;D

After class, we took a drive to see my youngest step-daughter & granddaughter #4. We took her out to lunch where her husband works (and he was our waiter  :D ;D ;D ). It was really nice. And then we drove home.

Now, my legs feel really weak.  :D ;D ;D ;D  Even though it is such a long trip to take a class, it looks like I may be taking the class frequently.

We went out side and a branch from our maple tree came down right on the power lines in front of the house. Some of the lines were laying on the road. We called the electric company. We also noticed they had closed off the street. They finally got the electricity up and running. I took a whole bunch of photos and if any of them came out decent, I will post a couple tomorrow.

I had a beautiful Mother's Day Weekend.  The weather was cool and windy, but it was great non the less!  We went on Friday upto my Mother's.  We had to make a couple errand stops on the way, so we had pizza at my favorite pizza joint.  My mother was not home (she was taking care of the little old lady 3 blocks away) - she came home, left us in the house and made us comfortable and then left (the little old lady, can not spend the night by herself - and the son was out of town).  She got back Sat. morning, and ran errands with her - took her out to eat at another favorite joint of mine back at home (remember my mother's cooking is scary).  Jason and I then met up with my bestest friend and her husband and went out to eat at RIP's a small little tavern in a small little town, that you may wait in line for 2 hours to get THE BEST Fried chicken (they serve a couple thousand chicken quarter's on a typical weekend night) - they have done it for 60+ years (and it is a third generation family business).  People come from all over.  We got to the restaurant, and we managed to squeeze inside the doors - so we did not have to wait outside in the cold and wind.  45 minute wait and I got my fried chicken (we also ordered 6 orders togo - to share with mom on mother's day - terrible cook she is).  Beautiful mothers day with my family, spent it lounging, I got a beautiful new purse, and some great homemade cards from the girls.  They grew flowers in class, and it was all a real treat.  Came back home last night, and my husbands family had a small bonfire and cook out.  So we had hotdogs, hamburgers, and smores.  Good times by all!

That sucks.  :(    Hope you feel better, Dag.

Saturday we spent a couple hours in the morning sorting through old documents - got four garbage bags full to be shredded.  We were going to take it to a place to be shredded Sunday but they're not open, so next Saturday it shall be done.

Helped Mrs. Midas prepare one beef enchilada casserole and one chicken enchilada casserole to take over to our friends' place for dinner.  Had a few more mutual friends join us and we partied until 2 AM.  :D

Called my moms on Sunday and did a few loads of laundry and watched tv.  That was aboot it.

Busy day today work, then food shopping on the way home, then special dinner for Himself and give him his birthday pressies, then off to my brother's to give my sister in law her birthday gifts!

Cake shall be consumed because even though it is Himself's day and he is not really that bothered about cake I am and it is the birthday law!  ;D

I woke up to this news.....the resident in question is my co-worker/friend

http://www.keyt.com/news/local/93266784.html

In Case you can't view the clip. The news report reads...
Quick action by Santa Barbara City fire fighters is being credited for saving a house on the Mesa overnight.

The blaze broke out just after 1:00 a.m. on the 600 block of Calle Cortita. That's just up the street from our studios here on T-V Hill.

A fire official told KEY NEWS overnight that when they arrived, the side of the home was fully engulfed in flames, and a resident was waiting patiently outside for fire fighters. She was able to exit the home without injury.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this hour

Thanks, although I have ate enough deepfried chicken product (Candelight Inn = Chicken George and Deep fried shrimp, which is otherwise known as Chicken of the Sea and Rip's = Fried Chicken X 2 meals) and grease to last me the rest of the year...  But I do not get to go to those places often (Last time I was at Rip's was 5 years ago) so I guess it is alright.

I am glad that you friend was alright!

:D ;D ;D ;D  Even though it is such a long trip to take a class, it looks like I may be taking the class frequently.

glad you survived it.... and liked it enough (pain and all) that you're be taking it again... :)

A storm came through here about quarter to 7. I heard some not very good things outside-started to close down the computer but before I could really close her down-everything went black.

You party animals!  Sounds like a good weekend!  I made a chicken enchilada casserole last week (and it was good) 8)

We ate a fair bit of Mexican type food towards the end of last week.  Thursday I did chicken in Picante sauce, Friday we ate at Chili's and on Saturday we got together with friends for a belated Cinquo de Mayo celebration and had taco salad.

On Sunday Dai flew to Chile so he will be eating similar stuff all week!

Today I went into school a couple of times to take down all the teachers letters we'd put up for teacher appreciation week.  Currently sorting them out into piles to give to each teacher.  Might have to fake a couple to one teacher who doesn't seem to have any notes from kids in her class  :-\\

I also walked about three miles with a friend.  It was a sunny day today but the wind kept it cold.

I am getting a headache because there is a chainsaw going on right outside my window. But, I know it is only for a short time because they are cutting up the logs of the maple that came down the other day. Then they are going to haul it away. I did put it up on FreeCycle but they haven't printed it yet. My cleaning lady called to inquire about it because she has some neighbors who could use it. So, first come first serve and they were here first. So, if it ever does go up on FreeCycle, I will just have to say that it was taken.

Later today, we have a chiropractor appointment and then we go to the farm to pick up produce for the first time this season. YAY!!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D  I LOVE fresh produce.

Actually, we're not really closed. At least two people are obliged to work (receptionist and a secretary) as to not disappoint our clients... ::) Furthermore, anyone that feels like working is free to come. Work will be payed as overtime.

I woke up this morning want to do nothing but garden, so that's what I did most of the day. lots of little weeds I cleared out around sprouts.  My amaranth is coming back and I am so glad because I can't find any seeds for them at the store.  My dad would like to eat the leaves.  I'd like to give him some because I'm in a stunted growth spot anyway.  I've considered planting parsley (also a possible butterfly host besides me just liking it) and oregano ( butterfly food besides me just liking it).  With my hospital bill coming up I can't be spending a bunch of money if any, but I just gotta make something work for right now.

I finally got a new one today, which pays comparably to my current job but is much less demanding and, more importantly, I'll be working Monday thru Friday, just like normal people.

We went to the beach yesterday.  It was sunny with clear blue skies when we left the house but had clouded over an little by the time we got to the beach.  The wind made it cold when the sun was behind a cloud and we forget to take sweatshirts.  We had lunch on the beach but gave up after a while.  Of course the clouds cleared later on and it was lovely again by the time we got home  :-\\

I was front stage (in the security barrier between the audience and the stage at a Drake concert yesterday....

For my fellow Degrassi Next Gen fans, Drake is Aubrey Graham who played Jimmy Brooks.

I'm not a big fan of rap, although I appreciate that it is like poetry set to music.  I was wondering if you might know the name of a song or who the artist is: a song a couple years ago, it had a Chipmunk singing some of the chorus.  Yeah I know that isn't alot to go on.

I don't eat salt if I can help it. I am one of these strange individuals who do not like salt. As for sugar, I don't eat that much of it. The problem is the "chef" likes to fry a lot of foods.

its scary....

I was thinking the other day- morbid thought I know- but I was wondering- if something happened to one of us- would the important people in our lives know to come here and let others know?

I think, like sami did, the message for me would get on Facebook first and then I'd hope one of you would pass the news along here.

I wonder if there's like facebook etiquette for death notifications?

Somewhere or other I read about a website where you can register all the messageboards etc that you use with log in details.  You have to check into the site every week or so and if you don't do that it automatically sends out death notices.

I went ahead and called Patty.  She is doing ok.

She had a hernia, and her small intestine wrapped around her bowel, so they had to remove part of her intestine.  Pretty serious stuff!

She is still in the hospital, and trying to recover, but she said she is alright.

I told her that we have all been thinking about her and praying for her and that we all love her very much.  She said she really appreciates that.  Let's all keep up the thoughts and prayers so that she will have a speedy recovery!

Glad she is doing ok.

I just created a sympathy card with my PrintMaster program. Tomorrow is a memorial service for the owner of our marina.  :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'(  It is sad but not unexpected. He was 72 and hadn't been in the best of health for years. In fact, Carlos & I are surprised that he lasted as long as he did. He was a super nice guy and we are going to miss him. My heart really goes out to his wife (who is also super nice).

As for the marina, I'm sure it will remain in the family because their son has been running it for years now.

I am distraught. My favourite teacher at school died earlier today. I haven't felt this bad about someone passing away for several years. Blurgh. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

My condolences.

It was a nice memorial (as memorials go). The weather was beautiful and there were A LOT of people there. He really touched the hearts of many. But, there were a few people we did not see-which surprised us.

We checked out the boat which is pretty much ready to go into the water but we didn't think today was the day to ask them about doing it. We may go back up there next week and inquire about it.

After the memorial, we drove around and took photos.

Went with Elizabeth to Girl Scout camp over the weekend.  The GS leader asked me to go because it was her first time camping having to do all the cooking etc.  Previously we have gone to fully catered camps, usually with staff organising the activities as well.

A lot of the time was spent cooking because the leader thought the various cooking in/on the fire would be fun to do.  Cooking hot dogs over the fire took longer than we thought.  Especially because the girls spent more time looking at the b=hot dogs to see if they were cooked than actually holding them over the hot coals.  ::)

Personally, I think this eye appointment was totally useless. I just saw an ophthalmologist about a month ago who gave me a new script for glasses. But, this was set up to determine if I get Social Security Disability. So, naturally, they had to dilate my eyes.  >:( >:( >:( >:(  I REALLY, REALLY hate having my eyes dilated. Now, my vision is very fuzzy and will be that way for most of the day. Totally useless! They BETTER approve my disability!  >:( >:( >:( >:(

I'm hoping you didn't have to spend 4 hours there like I did with Mrs. Midas on Friday.

Her eyes got dialated, they found what they call "Young Person's Wet Macular Degeneration" in the left eye, she got a shot in that eye, has to take drops for the next few days, lather rinse & repeat a few more times about a month apart.

I told her I could get her an eyepatch and have her dress as a pirate for the weekend but she didn't go for that    http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/07/pirate2.gif

Arrrrr, matie.

I'm not familiar with "Young Person's Wet Macular Degeneration." I'm never too sure about the difference between wet & dry MD. It is not my disease so I never really paid any attention to it. What is Mrs. Midas' prognosis besides the drops?

No. My appointment was only about 45 minutes or so. Most of that was waiting for the drops to take effect. The fuzziness is diminishing now but I just hate having it done and to me, they do it for no other reason than to look in and say, "Yup, you got RP." No sh!t! I know that already. And I told you that, too. But they still have to check just to make sure.  ::)

One time when I had my eyes dilated, there was a class of about 7 ophthalmologists in-training. All of them were lined up to look in my eyes. "This is what RP looks like." What fun being on display. I should have charged admission.  :D ;D ;D ;D

The doc said it can be hereditary (um, neither parent have this...don't know about grandparents) and/or caused by stress (she's had a heavy workload ever since we got married, plus all the preparation for a year going into that...) so who knows.  She stated she's had some blurred vision in her left eye for about a month.

The doc equated her issue with having pavement cracks in the retina and that weeds are trying to come up.  The shots/drops will be the weed killer and will hopefully help.

Midas

has mrs midas had information on taking vitamin supplements to help her recovery?  I found this

"Supplements of zinc and the antioxidants vitamin C, vitamin E and beta-carotene reportedly slow the progression of wet AMD. In people with intermediate-stage disease, zinc reduced the risk of the disease progressing to the advanced stage by 11%, and the antioxidants reduced the risk by 10%. When the two were combined, the risk was reduced by 19%. The daily doses of the antioxidants used in the study were 500 milligrams of vitamin C, 400 milligrams of vitamin E and 15 milligrams of beta-carotene (a molecule the body converts to vitamin A). The daily dose of zinc was 80 milligrams with 2 milligrams of copper. These amounts are well above the usual levels recommended by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA): 3 times as much vitamin A, 8 times as much vitamin C, 13 times as much vitamin E and 5 times as much zinc."

If she doesn't have any other health issues that would prevent her taking higher doses than normal it might be something to look into.  (i.e. liver problems would suggest no extra amounts of Vitamin A)

I had to bite my lip when dealing with one particular girl.  The concept of holding the hot dog somewhere over the hot coals, not in the flame, or over the stones on the outside of the fire pit and not dipping it actually in the ash, for long enough for it to be cooked just was too much for her.  I tried giving her a time limit, like counting to 300 but she clearly couldn't count and hold a stick at the same time!

The realtor visited the house last week to take some pictures and check over any work that needs doing before the next family move in.  As a result the landscaper is here today trimming back all the shrubs at the front of the house (sounds like he's using a chain saw to do the job though  :-\\ ).  I also saw them looking at the jungle at the back of the house so it looks like they might be busy today!

Our annual Spring Fling. The town has a big todo in the park (which I can see from my house) and there is a parade that goes right past the house. We always have a barbecue and invite our family & friends over. We usually have hamburgers & hot dogs from the grill and everyone else will bring something. This year, Carlos decided to do a Puerto Rican fare-empanadas, bacalaitos, & of course piña colada,.  ;) So far a bunch of people have said they couldn't make it.  :\'( :\'( :\'(  At last count there will be about a dozen people.

We had intended to go somewhere for this weekend but never got round to booking anywhere.  Currently the only plan is the parade on Monday morning.  The children can either parade with Girl Scouts/Cub Scouts or with their soccer team.

There's no soccer games on Saturday so we might be able to go somewhere for the day if the weather co-operates.

Going to my moms.  Sarah fried her phone and Sarah has to work off the $50 deductible for a new one.  Thank goodness for insurance.

Just been helping at the Field Day (sports day) at James's school.  Afterwards someone checked the thermometer in the courtyard and it registered 100 degrees!  My car thermometer said 34 deg C (which is 93 degF)  The kids were melting because they were out in the full sun and running relay races!

I've had a busy but mostly positive month. My cousin got married on 1st May and I went on holiday to ibiza with my mum from 15th - 22nd May. One of the happiest moments was getting a new mobile phone for my birthday (The 16GB Apple iPhone on Orange Pay as You Go). Other presents I got included a Pixarpedia book, a calculator, a jewellery and watch set, a £15 Apple App Store Gift Card, some pens and a notepad.

Some downsides of this month include getting upset over my housemate being in a bad mood, having a lack of staff on certain days, feeling over-tired and not getting enough sleep due to the heat.

Well today was not the best day, but it wasn't as bad as it could be....

Today was my Kindergartener's field trip, and I actually took a personal day to chaperone, FIRST TIME EVER (and they actually let me go, as I had to get special permission because it was within the last 10 days of school).  They sent a letter home last night, that stated unless the weather was severe, that they were planning on still going (Zoo fieldtrip) so please pack rain gear for the children.  Not a problem, wake up early this morning and turn on the news to listen to the weather, double check my iPhone weather, and they both said Showers ending mid-morning fine till later this afternoon (fieldtrip would be over at 1:30).  SOOO I get everything ready, kindergartener get's up early because she is excited and we work together to get things packed.  Phone call 7:20 - fieldtrip cancelled due to weather (WTF), I had to tell kindergartener field trip cancelled.  Tears welled up.  I call school to see if I can cancel the sub for my room (as I now have no reason for personal day) they are not sure.  WELL if I am going to get charged for personal day - then I am taking it and taking 2 girls with me to the zoo and other activities for family fun day.

Long story short - they cancelled sub, and fieldtrip is rescheduled for Friday; so Hopefully I can still go.

As I was going to bed last night a thunder storm started.  No idea if I actually dozed off or not before it got too bad.  Then Elizabeth came in so I ended up sleeping in the spare bed with her.  Whilst we were moving stuff about in the room the power went out and it just came back on.  It must have been off around 8 or 9 hours!

Daio tested the theory of whether the shower would work when the power was out.  It did, but drained all the water from the system so James had barely a dribble of water on his flannel and, worst of all,  I couldn't even fill a pan to make a cup of tea  >:(

We got hit with the same nasty storm. We didn't lose power-THIS TIME. (Unlike last time when it brought down a big branch on our maple tree out front and landed on the power lines.) When it was on its way out, I went out on the porch and tried to get some shots of the lightning but wasn't fast enough on the shutter button. I only got two shots with the sky lit up but nothing great.

Seriously Ann if you don't want this to happen you should go to the county family services division (or disability services) and talk to someone....tell them you need advice... tell them about your disabilities and ask them if they can help you get an advocate to help you fight for your independence.

I think it either needed to be more selective in awards... Truly honor those that need honoring, yes most people work hard (and that should show in their performance evaluations) but I know I hate awards banquets where everyone get's a "token" award - for pete sake then call it a staff appreciation dinner :P

Thanks

yeah.... when we were up there for the fire there were more people standing at the front of the room than there were occupying seats at the tables!   But one of the DA's came over and thanked me for all my hard work after the banquet so that was good...  and I got to see a lot of people I don't normally because of changes to our schedule so that was also good.

Congrats Q!

I'm frustrated in recovery.  Can't really bend down/over very well yet (the strain of my Buddha belly hanging when I lean over hurts like hell!).  But at least I can do stairs fairly well now (Thank goodness!  Since the bathroom is on the second floor).  lol  I haven't had any more problems breathing except for the first night so I am thankful.  I just wish I could get a bath.  We have no shower and using a basin/baby wipes during 88 degree farenheit (31 degree celcius) heat just ain't cutting it.  I'm about ready to have my husband take me in a bathing suit to a car wash and hose me down.  Maybe put a fine hot wax coating afterwards.   :D ;)  I'm feeling better everyday, trying to not take pain pills because it makes me a raging byotch (or at least someone with no sense of humor)  Today we actually got out of the house to meet one of hubby's friends for lunch at Denny's.  (Although for some unknown reason, their grilled cheese tasted like Cinnamon)   8-P  James thinks they used Cinnamon flavored butter spread to grill the bread.  Cinnamon and cheese don't really go well together.  Trying to be more upbeat.

My plans are to get a job weather she likes it or not.  If I get fired good for me. Lots of people get fired espically during their first jobs.  I'm going to tell her that and she's going to like it.  We've gone to DRAIL and they've asked me if I'd like to work and I said yes.  They were going to offer me a ticket to work and I would have taken it, but mom says I don't deserve that.  I don't understand.  Is there anything wrong with the Ticket to work program that I am unaware of?

Glad you're feeling better. I hope you are back to normal soon.

did he acknowledge you????  Please say he did, or I am going to have to open a can of woopass

nope.... when I went up and congratulated him later I said something like... "who was the dispatcher on that call?"  he was like "hmmm I think that was one Miss Tq!"  ::)    he's a great sgt! I really like him....and again I think he did a fabulous job. They just have no clue about all the stuff we have to do to make the stuff they want to happen actually happen.... I heard nothing about my part in the call....I just told him on facebook I expect a letter of commendation in my box... I was joking but only a little bit...

oh and one of the sgts got a valor award for sitting on a cliff talking a suicidal subject out of jumping... he got the guy to walk back to a waiting ambulance....

I told the sarge- not to take away from what you did or nothing but.....
who took the three frantic phone calls from friends who rec'd suicidal text from that subject?
who told you there was a suicidal subject to begin with?
who coordinated conversations with the friends and the RA to help track down the location of the subject?
who got you additional units to stage below the cliff on the east and the west in case he did jump
who got that ambulance there ready and waiting just in case he did agree to come out
who made the notifications to county mental health, and the captains?
who did all this...all alone.....all at the same time and without ever dropping the ball? who I ask? WHO?

oh yeah... that was me  :P

Didn't you get a award? I don't care if it is your job or not, in my eyes you are a hero-many times over.

Glad you are feeling better - can you sit in a shallow tub???  Then at least you could use a wash cloth and it would be coolish warm??? OR  you can buy a handheld shower attachment for on your bathtub faucet!  We installed one of those easily

Thanks.

Yeah they don't want me to get tub baths so that my staples and stitches don't get wet.  Although I'm almost to the point of taping a trash bag over my belly just to get everything else clean.  lol  I think maybe I will try to find another shower attachment after pay day next week.  We tried all over the place awhile ago but our faucet is square and every attachment is round (or vice versa, I forget)

Glad you can move around better- and hey what better excuse not to clean the house than I just had surgery and can't bend over...
sorry about the baths tho. I know sponge baths just don't cut it..... hope you can take a bath soon.... not cuz you need it but because I know they are supposed to be relaxing and stuff.... personally I hate baths... I prefer showers...  ;)

You can switch out the faucet, EASY! It is either just a set screw on the bottom of the faucet (you can't do it, because your would have to bend over and crawl under the faucet, but himself sure can) or unscrewed from a threaded pipe!  And when you buy a new bathtub spout, you can get one with a diverter - so you can screw on the top a shower hose - wallla DONE (I wish I was closer)

I used to have one of those attachments. my faucet was square the opening was oval shaped so every time I turned on the water too high the hose would fly off the faucet... it was a pain in the arse.

Oddly enough, we did end up (months ago) buying everything we need (presumably) to put a wall shower conversion thing in.  Just couldn't figure out how to put up a tub surround/curtain thing.  Our bathroom is shaped so weird.  Plus the tub is situated in the slope of the roof so you'd still have to slouch to use it.  lol  Always something.  Handy home improvement people, we are not.  And hubby won't hire people to do it so it remains undone in a box somewhere upstairs amongst all the other crap we've accuumulated over the years

Piece of cake to switch out bathtub spout - maybe a little wd-40 to loosen (if it is a screw on threads type) - but other wise Easy-peasy!

I was the fixit person around my house as I was growing up (my brothers and sister where elsewhere - 10,13, and 14 years older) and my father was gone - my mom would sit and wring her hands wondering how things were going to get fixed, because we didn't have a man around the house  :P  So I can change toilets, change o-rings in leaky sinks, do some drywalling, install ceiling fans and such (shhhh don't tell hubby, but I can change lightbulbs too ) ::)

This is out of necessity - You HAVE to have a shower....  infection you do not want!  Put in the spout diverter!

Man this also shows, that you Patty are a much better person than me.  I would have been a ROYAL BIATCH and got this problem fixed after the 3rd day of cleaning myself with wipes ::)

it is callled a hack saw - buy one (ask around at work and see if someone has one) - cut the bolts in two, and there you go, you can put a new seat on

About a month or so ago, my sister ("Dawg") found a website that is putting our old hometown newspaper on-line-and a lot of it is free. She got me to go through them. They don't have ALL of them up YET but they keep getting more and more. The other day, I found not only her birth announcement-I found TWO of them.  :o :o :o  The first one I found, was dated about a week after her birth and had the wrong hospital. The second one I found was actually on her birthday.  :o :o :o  That's right, they announced it on the actual day and this time they had the right hospital. She joked that the paparazzi were waiting there and she was so good that she was born twice in two different hospitals.  ;D ;D ;D ;D  Haven't found mine yet or our other sister who was born in that area but not all of the issues are up yet. Hopefully within the month or so, it will be.

"Dawg" told me that our other sister mentioned about being in a protest against the war when she was in high school and had her photo in the paper. Last night, while on the phone with her, we were both searching for it. And I found it-complete with photo.  :) :) :) We are finding all sorts of articles about people we grew up with and such. And through all of that, we may have found my childhood best friend who I have been looking for since getting on-line.

It is really cool. Sort of going back in history-OUR history. And it is something that the two of us are doing together. We do send links to others in the family but they don't seem as enthused about it as the two of us are-but I know they are interested in our findings.  ;)

Hack saw blade  is thin - you should be able to slide it under the head of the bolt (along the porcelain) or in between the nut and the porcelain.  You can also use wd-40 to help seise the rust and loosen the bolt (a deep welled socket will help with this) - just remember lefty loosey (turn it counter clockwise - so you don't break the porcelain)

You do not even HAVe to have the hack saw handle (just wrap some duct tape around the blade, where you want to hold onto) - cheap fix

Yes - just like if your faucet drips in your sink - it is do to the washers in the sink handle.  You can not tighten them down thoroughly (the washers have squashed, flattened and such) - so it does not stop the water from dripping

Good Luck with getting a job Ann.

Wow,Sorry about the thunderstorm Karen,That must have been some wacky thunder and lightning. :o

You need a new washer. You can get one at a hardware store. It takes 5 minutes to change it. Easy job.
Ask a friend if they know how to change one.

OK - what the heck is a salami burger???  Last time I checked salami was some sort of beef sausage with seasoning dried so all moisture was out of it - how do you make a burger out of that ???

I am curious about the salami burger as well.  I'd probably eat one.

When I looked it up online, it looked like a fried salami sandwich

Anyways, I had a short day of work today. They let us out at 2:00, presumably due to the long holiday weekend coming up. This gave me an opportunity to ride home on an earlier train (even though it was more than half an hour late getting into Union Station). It'll be great to have a 3-day weekend! (Oh, and today was my payday.)

Then you've never had a really good salami...and it isn't really meant to be stacked up in a sandwich, a little dab will do you.

We had a good time, except the other child we were with sorta wanted to "race" through the zoo; running from one animal to the next.  My little one likes to read all the displays, and the fun facts about the animals (she remember's them all, and loves to know that 4700 hummingbird eggs fit into 1 ostrich egg).  So I had to keep reminding them it was not a race.  There were also 1300 total school children there for various fieldtrips (several schools around us were also there), so it was quite busy.  We had to wait in line for the train about 45minutes to an hour, because of all the kids.  Missed the penguins due to the line, and I got sunburnt (even though I had waterbabies spray on 50spf on, thinking that it is junk).  But it was a beautiful and fun day, to spend with my little girl!

He was old and losing weight.  He even went deaf.  It was his time.  He had a good long life.

I don't think I would like marshmallows again either.

SPRING FLING!!!!

We didn't have as many people this year (only 10-including Carlos & I). We did up a different spread. Instead of the hot dogs & hamburgers, we did a Puerto Rican flair-bacalaitos, pinchos (grilled chicken kabobs), and star fruit from our tree (thanks to my wonderful sister-in-law). My best friend who usually brings macaroni salad, brought potato salad this time and another friend brought rice & beans. My niece brought a watermelon. Carlos was going to make empanadillas but last night I told him that I didn't think we needed them. We didn't. Of course I don't care too much for empanadillas anyway. (Deep fried meat pies.) As everyone was eating, I asked who thought this was better than the hot dogs & hamburgers and EVERYONE raised their hands. So, I think that is what we will probably do it again next year. The bacalaitos were a BIG hit (deep fried cod fish cakes).

Went through the park as everyone sold their usual wears. We got our yearly supply of good old Vermont maple syrup (Grade B of course  ;) ). Along the park, there were a few people having yard sales that we went to. On one table there were some silver gobbets. The woman said, "They are perfectly good silver-just needs to be cleaned." I knew that-I know silver. I asked her how much and almost broke my jaw as it hit the ground-25 CENTS each. I bought all 5 of them. I also bought a plastic colander for 50 cents. Yeah, the plastic thing cost more than silver. Go figure. I figure if she will sell me silver for 25 cents, I can buy the plastic for 50.

After lunch, we watched the parade that goes right in front of the house. I just realize that we forgot to go to the book sale at the library. They always have a sale during Spring Fling and at 3, they have a $1 a bag sale. All the books you can fill in a bag for a $1. Oh well. We really don't need anymore books anyway. We have so many as it is.

All in all, a good day (like it always is).  I look forward to it every year.

May has been quite a challenging one for me but I am keeping my chin up. I couldn't enter the half-marathon I trained for because I sprained my Achilles Tendon so had been advised to rest it for a few weeks. It didn't matter because there are smaller runs I can do in the meantime and they will help me to feel so much better about my half-marathon attempt next year.

I 'pursued' a lady (that is I went the extra mile trying to attract her) thinking the initial rejection was because she had only known me for four days as we struck up a wonderful friendship full of chemistry. I just had my grandad's 'faint heart never won fair maiden' voice ringing in my head so I managed to sit next to her at work and we had sparks flowing but it turned a little weird when I told her about my feelings for her via a text (always safe). What I didn't know was she had been going out with my friend for a month and he happened to see the couple of texts I sent to her and I felt weird that he saw them. Fortunately, the bloke was wonderful about it as I told him I had no idea they were together and wouldn't have pursued her if I knew...So now I am the only bloke in my circle of friends who is single. This fact either makes me feel good or bad about myself and haven't decided yet which side of the coin that is.

The good news is I have enough money to buy a massive 42 inch LED LCD television. Life is good. :)

We went to New York for the day.  We drove down to New Haven then caught the train to Grand Central.

We went to MOMA and they had a great audio tour just for the kids.  Some modern art I don't 'get' or like, but they also had some nice stuff.

After lunch in Chinatown we tried to catch a subway train to Ground Zero.  After we bought the tickets and got into the station proper we found that we couldn't get to the line we wanted because of work on the line.  The signs about this were less than helpful in suggesting alternatives.  So we caught what we thought was the right train, found out it wasn't when it went across the river, got off and sought advice froma staff member.  Tried again, but the train didn't follow the correct route because of the same works on the line!  nearly an hour of farting about and we ended up virtually where we started.  ::)  Gave up on the idea and got a taxi to the Flatiron building instead.  We had an ice cream and recovered ourselves.  Then we went to the Natural History museum.

A fun day apart from the problem on the subway.

We went into town for the memorial day parade.  Elizabeth ended up being at the front of the parade.  She carried a placard saying 'freedom isn't free' and was followed by other girl scouts carrying placards naming the cemeteries in town, followed by a GS with a placard saying 'lest we forget'.  James was in his own little world amongst the boy scouts.  His leader had to take his flag off him because he was pretending it was a sword apparently and when we saw him he was snapping his fingers in time with the pipe band!

Round to friends for a barbecue this evening.

Time to ask your friends to help out.  They, or their girlfriends must know someone. Doesn't have to be a blind date, maybe an movie, or lunch with your friends, where your friends happen to bring along someone they think you may like.  Lunch dates, or meeting someone for coffee(or tea) is less pressure.  You can't tell me there isn't some fair maid at the gym, and sometimes the one you think you aren't really attracted to gets more attractive when you get to know her, so cut the ones you may have thought you weren't really interested in some slack and see what happens.

Very Busy 3 day weekend.  Hubby had to work Sat. and Sunday ( he goes in at 4am and gets done around 10-11am) so we could not go camping or such.  I had grocery shopping to do, so did that Sat. morn, then we went to some graduation get togethers, and then friends had get together later Sat. night.  My sister-in-law was back from AZ, so we went to my mothers on Sun. and visited with them (nice time), came home and stopped by Lowes on the way back.  Today was spent, sprucing up the lawn (after services this morning) - weeds pulled, shrubs trimmed, new plants planted, mulch down, preen on - VERY EXHAUSTED NOW... I think I need a weekend :P

IN!!!  ;)

drove to San Diego for my friends daughters wedding.
Known the girl since she was 18mos old. She has a 9 mo old daughter (she's 24 now)
she's stunningly beautiful, smart, and just a really nice young woman. My friend did a great job with her daughters
The groom looked at her with a love in his eyes ice only seen In the movies.

The drive was not bad concidering if was memorial day weekend.
About 50,000 people trying to get into Santa Barbara as I left on Sunday. And about 150,000 returning to la on my way back. Seriously I maybe had 15 mins of bad traffic in la on Monday at 4pm but, once I got thru it,  there only a hundred of us driving north to sb . I drove 85 most of the way.  The cars going  sb were stopped dead.

The hotel was nice. It's a dog friendly hotel so Effie got to stay for free. But the terrace where the grass was gets closed so I couldn't walk her. That meant going out in downtown sd at midnight with a bunch a drunk college kids and dome homeless dudes. I didn't feel unsafe it was just difficult to find grass for her and everyone felt the need to stop and pet her. Plus she's black, it was night so she almost stepped in by drunks a couple times.

The tv was large. And good channels but no tv guide channel or guide so I could see what was on. It's been a long time since I had to physically channel surf. It's annoying now that I know the glory of the onscreen prgram guide.

I typed this on my iPhone. Not gonna proof it. So deal with the typos a'ight.

My drive to SD Friday night wasn't bad - got in @ 11:30 PM-ish.  The drive out Monday kinda sucked.  They were tearing down an inspection checkpoint stop on the 8...and right now getting through Yuma sucks. :P

Oh, and I got my ride up to 95 at one point. :D

Our weekend was pretty full.  We stayed up talking until 2 AM after we got in.  I had been up since 4 AM Friday.
Saturday my brother had to work so his girlfriend took us out and about.  Hit The Mission in North Park for a late breakfast.  Then we went to Mt. Soledad (sp) to catch views of La Jolla and downtown San Diego.
Then we went to the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla.
After that we went home to pick up my brother and then we went to downtown San Diego and had dinner at Anthony's Fish Grotto on the water.
Then we went to the downtown Marriott and up to Altitude, an outside bar/club on the 22nd floor.  From there you can see into Petco stadium and stuff.
Sunday we went on the Hornblower Champagne Brunch cruise around the Harbor, then to a keg-in-the-yard party in Ocean Beach.
Grabbed some dinner at Casa de Pico in La Mesa, then ended up at some dive bar in La Mesa.
Monday we had breakfast at Lake Murray Cafe in La Mesa then headed out.

See you in Vegas?  :D  ;)

Glad your back, and your weekend was good (although grassless)  8)  And I hate hotel tv's because there is never an on screen guide, and when I do finally fine the channel guide in the hotel's information packet, it is incorrect...  Makes me mad everytime, I feel your pain 8)

I know, I hate that too! And they have only a small number of channels in their lineup.

Hey Bob,Glad to see everything's going well,Sorry about the woman you wanted to persue, you can always try next time.  :)

Hiya Howard. No worries at all, mate, I tried my best and that was all I could do. Things were still a bit weird on my birthday night-out but for reasons I didn't expect. My mate told me he felt really bad about the situation because he told me that he knows all too well how rough it can be being on the other side, knowing what a decent bloke I am. I appreciated his consideration but simply said it happened the way it happened and he should be happy with how things turned out. Admittedly, I was dissapointed when I found out the hard way they were going out together but I quickly learned to understand that a proper love for someone is not just about keeping them but also knowing when the right time is to let them go. :)

Welcome back, my friend. I've missed you. As for the girl-it just wasn't meant to be. When it is meant to be, she will find you.

I've missed you too and you are right. :)

It all sounds like good advice, Danoota. My mates are younger than I am and either deal with attached or immature women. There is a single lady coming to my barbecue on Saturday but she isn't my type at all and recovering from a negative relationship.

I'm afraid I go to the gym in the scruffiest washed stuff available because my focus is excercise, lol. I may pimp up my keep-fit clothes eventually, lol. I've been told by my mates to use internet dating sites, I'm not sure about the idea because it feels like I've given up on the prospect of meeting a nice girl face-to-face.
