Subject: Earth hour 2010, March 27th.

Written By: Frank on 03/26/10 at 11:48 am

On Saturday night March 27th, it's Earth hour

Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. Earth hour was conceived by WWF and The Sydney Morning Herald in 2007, when 2.2 million residents of Sydney participated by turning off all non-essential lights. Following Sydney's lead, many other cities around the world adopted the event in 2008.

So this year, Earth Hour 2010 will take place on March 27, 2010 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., local time.
Let's turn off our lights and non essential appliances to support!

I say the same thing I say every year. I don't like the light so I tend to sit in the dark anway- so no problem. But no force on this earth ( cept a power failure of course) will get me to turn off my tv or computer.

I'm in my room with only my computer on.  I'm a gremlin when not outside in my garden.

You know, I could turn this into something nasty if I wanted to. ;D

But seriously...You're asked to turn off all non-essentials, so more than one thing (say: the fridge and the telly) could still be on.

I don't like light and that's what I was referring to.  Just the sun outside, so I guess I'm not exactly a vampire nor a gremlin, but I'm something.  One of those rare species of Anners I guess.

We participated. We turned everything off except a night lamp for 2 hours. It was fun, just the family chatting.

I was hesitant, but decided to participate after all. So at 20:25 PM I switched off all lights but one and lit candles instead. Also turned down the heat (to 15°C), but I kept the telly on. Sorry, but Saturday evening at 20:30...it's The Closer, followed by Cold Case, and at 22:30 it's soccer highlights.

I could tell my neighbors weren't particularly bothered, though...

Good for you!
Yes, our neighbours were not interested either. Their loss.

Heck, maybe I am a vampire. I do like to have light but it has to be dim or soft.

Oh and I did participate in Earth hour.
