Subject: Digital camera?

Written By: mhthegoblin on 07/15/10 at 3:13 pm

Hi,

I'm after a digital camera. Doesn't have to be too special beyond a) a high resolution (12MP minimum) and b) reliable and likely to last a while. I'm looking into this - http://ubuyhardware.com/p~p-1848567000~b-402~Olympus-Stylus-Tough-8010-14-Megapixel-Digital-Camera---Silver.aspx - do you guys think it'd be appropriate? Any suggestions of an alternative?

Thanks in advance!

This is the camera I have.

There are two types of digital cameras-the high tech ones with all the different settings/gadgets, lens, etc. etc. Most go for boo coo bucks. Then you have the point and shoot-very easy, and very affordable. This camera is a hybrid of the two. Ok, you can't add a lens to it but it has a 12x zoom which I love. (My old camera had a 4x zoom and I was so disappointed in that.) There are manual settings to this camera or you could just point & shoot. Before I bought this camera, I read review after review after review about which camera to buy and all the reviews are HIGHLY positive.

Oh, if you are interested as to the quality of the shots:

I do love this camera and I HIGHLY recommend it.

Like I said, I did A LOT of research before buying it. I wanted one that I could zoom in plus take marco shots. This camera does both. It does a few quirks and it took me a while to get use to it. It is quite versatile and small enough that I keep it in my purse. There are still some functions that I'm not too sure how to use. But all in all, I love it and if I had to replace mine, I would buy another one just like it.

how about indoor low light shots? one thing I like about my Sony Cybershot is that it gets great pics in the theater when I'm at a Paley Event...Flash Photography is not allowed during a paley event.

I love 2 of my 3 Sony Cybershots  ::)  The small one I bought, when I was in AZ for nephews wedding and forgot my other and I decided I wanted a smaller size, I can't stand :P

I feel it beautiful pictures, and it is more user friendly - the newer version doesn't allow me to use flash at certain times (and no matter how I go into the menu, and try and change it; it says it is not allowable) - and the first game with easy book (I LOVE sony technical writers, they seem guide you through it the best - and that is what I am paying for with sony products, ease of use) and the newer version gave me a cd rom (not when I am out and about do I have my computer with me).  And the first because of the long lens, is REAL good in low light situations (gyms, etc... ) and I get much better pictures.

You can hook a hard drive up to your ipad?

I mean more memory because all the TV Shows I download from iTunes exceeds the capacity of the iphone, ipad and almost exceeds the capacity of my ipod... I need to upgrade to the 160gb.

I thought you could... but perhaps I am wrong, and if so - I am definitely taking longer time to buy one

I really just want it to have the backlit reader - so I can read a book in bed without keeping my husband up at night

SO does anyone remember the Kodak instamatic????  I still think they should come out with a digital camera named the same thing - Kodak Instamatic 2010 (although I hate Kodak cameras and I will never purchase one) - my first camera was an instamatic.  Nice little square pictures it gave me with 126 film 8)

I have turned the flash off and never have gone back. All those shots I took at the Pat Benatar/REO concert were without flash. This one was without flash (taken during the concert, too lol):

It is great when I'm take shots of the kids and it is not intrusive as it is with the flash.

OMG... That is one of the most incredible shots of the moon I 've ever seen... its got that witchy feel to it... and I know that's no accident!

the one of the kitty is cool too!

I'm having a problem getting a close up pic of Effie because she is black with black eyes - so its hard to get a good distictive image...plus she rarely sits still and always looks away just as the camera clicks... I have tons of blurry pics of her  ;D
