Subject: Goofy words you and/or your friends have made up

Written By: AL-B Mk. III on 08/05/10 at 6:59 pm

Ever been hanging out with your friends just goofing around when you or they make up a new word that stays in your vocabulary?

My older brother (who I also consider my best friend) and I have made up a couple.

Dumas (pronounced doom-iss) : A way my brother and I call each other dumbass. Another friend of mine also uses that sometimes, but since he's overweight I sometimes reply by calling him "Fatus."

Smeet: About 10 years ago my brother and I were on vacation in L.A., and I was pretty hammered and hungry, and I said, "Canwegetsumpintaeat?" ANd my brother kept laughing and saying "Smeet? Smeet?"

So now when we're hungry we'll just say, "Smeet?"

A word that my ex & I made up (and I still use it) is GRRHEAD. Definition: A grump. "You are just being a grrhead." And it is NOT meant to be a derogatory word.

Nope-I first heard that word back in the 70s.

OMPH: I was being annoying, and my bro was like "If you say one more word, I'm gonna go get mom." I meant to just open my mouth without saying anything (just to humor him), but I ended up saying "omph" instead. It means absolutely nothing, just something to make you laugh uncontrollably.

Heh.  When we were kids, my cousin and I decided to see if we could break ourselves of saying "Ouch" or "Ow" when we hurt ourselves, and we decided we would say "Krill" instead.  (Yeah, we were goofballs) It never worked, we always ended up saying "ow".  Whenever one of us would say Ow, the other would say "Krill!!" as a reminder...  Nowadays I don't see her all that often but if we do hear each other say Ow, we will still respond with "Krill". :-[

I can't remember a single time that it actually worked though... it was always either "ow", "ouch", or "$O%&*@()@&$^" depending on how badly it hurt :)

I sometimes say "Confuddled" (obvious, I think) but I'm not so sure I made that up.

When I was in the military another service member and I would use this made up term on anyone who was gung ho, of a one tracked mind and would starve if not for the military.  We both young and only had about a year in when we made this up so we were still a bit rebellious.  We'd just call them:

the kitchen tongs are called tonsil extractors in our house.  there's probably a few more like that where one of us couldn't recall the real word and the alternative stuck.

Also horrible things are all narsty with an exaggerated long ar sound in the middle.

My nephew says smatterju instead "what's the matter with you."  That's actually his email address.

And I have always called my nieces and nephews Smelly Gnecktigazoids.

In my husband's family they have their own made up language, I swear!

Obo is short for Obnoxious.

A Roo is a hug.

A Jug is a baby bottle.

And they don't say What The F*&^.  They say WTF Over.

I don't think they're here anymore.  They had some dumb wiki-type page about it too.  Then someone made some funny-ass edits to it.  :D  Then it was removed.

Hilar - for hilarious.  :D

Yeah, when we're just giving each other a hard time.

I just can't see myself yelling out, "PRICKDICK!" when someone cuts me off in traffic.
