I have been reading about friends talking of "elf on a shelf" and I finally had to go look up what they were speaking of.  I knew it was regarding an elf keeping track of childrens "doings" for Santa Clause's naughty or nice list.  But I looked a picture... AND LOW AND BEHOLD.... my favorite all time childhood (and we still have it) Christmas Ornament is the elf...

What about the 31 days? ???

This might help...

30 days has September,
April, June and November
All the rest have 31
And February’s great with 28
And Leap Year’s February’s fine with 29

Spent most of the morning in court. The guy we are suing (over the kitchen) FINALLY showed up so the judge threw out the contempt of court claim. He now informs everyone that he is filing a counter-claim (this is several months AFTER the judgment was made in our favor due to lack of response on his part). The judge had us go into mediation which we KNEW wouldn't work. At least we got to tell somebody as to why we filed the claimed. After mediation, we went back to the courtroom for financial disclosure. He claims he doesn't have anything-is not working, no checking account, no savings account, etc. etc. We wonder how true that is. The judge said that he could wait until after the holidays to pay us SOMETHING. He has between Jan. 1st & Feb. 1st to pay something-if not, it will be back to court we go. The judge said that we didn't have to be there physically but could do it over the phone. That is good because we will probably be in PR at the time.

Day 5 of Holiday never to forget...  Still in camper, drywall is up, may not be ready to paint till possibly Monday, then flooring can go in, which means then cabinets....  We found out it costs $25/day of LP to heat camper (to 65 at night, and down to 60 during the day - when we are not here).  Cheaper than a hotel.  We are under a winter storm warning for tomorrow.  Girls still like to camp, they do not want to stay at sister-in-laws house.  I get taken out to eat tonight - YAY

I have finally found humor in the situation, and being a family is being together. Thankful for all that we got, and really we got a lot...

MMMMMMM, crab. I love it. I also love lobster & shrimp, too. Lobster is my fav-not just the tail but the entire thing (with the exception of the liver-and the roe if it is a female.  8-P 8-P 8-P Carlos loves that so I give it to him.) But it is VERY messy to eat and sometimes they bite back.  :-\\

Day two of my 5-day birthday extravaganza!
I'm off to la to see a play starring one of the actors from Buffy.
I need him to sign my Once More with Feeling poster. Wish me luck.

Well 1 bedroom trim is completely finished, 2 coats of paint on.  1 bedroom has 1 coat on and needs a quick second coat.  And thanks to my youngest daughter, the stairwell trim is completely primed!  Busy busy day, while dad and eldest daughter are looking for the thirty point buck!

I'll eat for ya!

I was going to treat myself to red lobster tonight....well my dad was actually treating me but I decided against it cuz my pants are too tight as it is.

I had a great day tho!!! I slept till about 10am then I drove to LA at noon to go see a play starring Nick Brendon.... Nick Brendon was Xander in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and he currently plays Garcia's boyfriend on Criminal Minds.  It was a great play- very funny.  a one man show called the Santa Diaries. There were moments where nick was standing rignt over me  and other moments where he looked right at me... and (because he uses audience members) as props in his play he was talking at me too!!! so awesome!

He signed the Buffy Poster I've been carrying in my car for about 4 yrs now. I have slowly been working on getting it signed by everyone who appeared in the musical episode. I still have James Marsters (he'll be easy), Joss Whedon (he'll be super easy), Michelle Trachtenberg (possibly easy)  and Sarah Michelle Gellar (she'll be impossible)..... I have Nick, Alyson Hannigan, Amber Benson and Emma Caulfield.... Its a work in progress. I can't wait until it's signed, framed and hanging on my wall.

Good news! :) The two remaining poems I entered for the competition also made it to Round 2. So I scored 6 out of 7 for round 1. Not bad.

Although, if this is anything to go by, there are still about 8,500 poems in competition... :-\\

It is still very cold here.  The side roads and pavements/cycle paths are still covered in a thick layer of ice in many places.  The ride to school was a mix of road and path and coming home we just stuck to the road.  James negotiated the roundabout very well. (our usual route avoids going around this)

Elizabeth is at home sick.  SHe came home from school on Friday and go worse as the weekend went on.  Now running a temp (though that could be being wrapped up in blankets with the heating on full blast!).

It is Dai's birthday today.  but we have nothing special planned though we did go and see Nottingham Panthers play ice hockey yesterday.  It was a good match (shame we lost) but expensive compared to watching Hartford Wolfpack

Today... Went to pick out carpet for the upstairs, done (goes in next week), got to have painting finished up there then!  Dry wall is in and texture is done, need to get it primed... And painted (2 coats). Floor will go in tomorrow, rented nailer tonight for flooring and bought rosin paper for underlayment of flooring!  Asked at carpet place (they do tiling as well) if they had any interesting tiles that someone special ordered and ended up not getting.  He asked what color... I said brown or red, he said let me go downstairs... He brought up a brown 6" X18" leatherlook tile... I think it might go and for only $1.00 a square foot...  (got to measure to see if they have enough)...  Possible win win!

Trying to help girl with predicates is kicking my behind... I have never been good at it, and the last time I actually thought about a predicate in a sentence, I was probably 9... Blah.  We got through it though, and I felt dumb after my "refresher" course...

But I got what I got, so I have to deal with that!  Coming together!  And it looks nice!  I think I managed to get some gorgeous tile for a GREAT price, bonus! It is a brown washed tile, looks great with granite countertop and i don't think it competes!  Better yet a dollar a sq ft!  Someone special ordered it and then never picked it up! I just happen to ask while we were ordering our carpet!

Up stairs, both girls rooms completely finished, ready for carpet.  Bathrrom is ready for grout, and I just have to finish the paint in the common room, stairwell trim and stairwell walls!  Carpet goes in next week!

An ambulance was called to my neighbor's house (across the street) a couple of days ago. They were collecting our mail for us while we were away on vacation. The ambulance arrived about the time we returned home. It looked as if someone had collapsed and was being transported to hospital. When we visited later to collect our mail (and ask if he needed help) poor Henry advised us that his wife actually died. (and here we were asking for mail). :-[    She'd had cancer for months and we didn't even know. We obviously didn't know them well...but it was a shock anyway! So sad! Is he elderly?  This can be such a difficult transition!

My husband grandpa was finally talked into going to assisted living.  He has been messing up taking his myriad of medications, he lives out on the farm by himself, has to drive into town somewhere to eat, for he is too stubborn to try to cook or heat a dinner in the microwave (and he has some cataracts, so his vision is not the best for driving), and he will not monitor his diabetes and keeps insuring on eating fried foods with mashed potatoes and gravy.  Well one of the levers he had going for him was a nearby cousin (also an old farmer)  Jack also checked himself into the assisted living home, so they could gab, play cards, etc...  The day came to check in, his son and daughter were with Jim and all his stuff they packed.  They walked into place, he saw Jack sitting in a chair and went right over to talk to him.  Well Jack was dead.  Grampa turned around and told hubby's dad and aunt not to bother unpacking his stuff, he WAS Not staying there.  Apparently Jack had gotten up got dressed, ate his breakfast and sat down in his chair and died...  Grampa thinks Jack was giving him a sign... Not sire what they are doing now, everyone is more than upset in one way or the other!

Henry looked so sad and lost....   :\'(   His son is staying with him for a while.

I'm sorry about her tragedy,my condolences.  :(

Another sad story.

My grandmother was reluctant to go into an assisted living facility. When she finally did-she couldn't understand why she was hesitant. She absolutely loved it. She did have her own apartment and the facility provided light housecleaning for her. She could cook her own meals if she wanted to or she would have gone to the dinning hall to eat with other people in the facility. She met a lot of people who she became friends with and even turned into a gossip.  ;D ;D ;D  After she died, there was talk of creating a memorial garden for her at the facility but I'm not too sure if that happened or not.

Thanks to those who offered condolences for my neighbor (Henry's) loss. He and his wife look to be in their 60's....so, it was too early to be losing his partner.

They are Chinese/Australian and pretty much keep quietly to themselves.

Anyways, we got our Christmas tree yesterday, but haven't started decorating it yet. We picked out a nice one; about 6 1/2 or 7 feet tall. It was listed as a "Fraser" fir, which might be related to the Noble fir due to its appearance and texture.

My escape artist struck again last night. She ran out just as the snow was starting to pile up. I kept opening the door, calling her, even shook the cat food bag hoping to entice her in but no avail. I thought she was going to be spending the night outside again. Then I looked out the back door window and there she was looking at me and crying. I opening the door and she ran in and was so happy to inside where it was warm & dry. She KNEW I was p!ssed at her because she didn't want to come close to me (even though she really wanted to). Carlos thinks that I should have just let her stay outside but I told him that I wanted to sleep last night.

I think he wants to make sure that you get the things he wants you to have.  Whether or not he's still fighting, he wants to pass on things that he things would make you happy.  My mom is the same way.  Every time I go back to visit, she has a couple boxes of my stuff for me, it feels like she wants to get rid of all traces of me at their house, but I know that isn't it.

Thanks. The first time she ran out, it was REALLY cold and less then 10 minutes later, she was at the door begging to be let back in. Finished my christmas cards to the best of my knowledge today.  Oh I'm sure I'll think of other people I probably should send to, but barring unexpected receipt of christmas card in the mail, I think I'm done.  Finally.  Next project is to finish cleaning out the living room and finding a place to put my tree.  I think I have a better time shopping for unusual ornaments then actually decorating the tree (which the cats will probably knock down anyway.)

Have to buy a few more stamps and send off the cards and figure out how much overseas postage will be tomorrow and that will be one thing crossed off my list.  Got more Christmas gifts bought today too.  Yay me!

Watched a campy movie with the hubby tonight called "Out there".  It had a ton of cameo appearances.  It was an ok movie, I like campy alien flicks so it worked for me.  (But I fell asleep half-way through the movie.)

Got most of my holiday shopping done this evening. I still have more to do, perhaps tomorrow.

Also, we got the lights put up on our Christmas tree earlier (my mom did most of the work); sometime tomorrow we'll start putting up the ornaments.

we got some outside lights up,  Had a Drail meeting yesterday, had a Drail meeting today, and tomorrow have and ear doctor appointment in Sacramento.  I cut some dead flowers off my mums and they look great right now.  The Lantana is growing green leafs back already and will be fine.  The other plant had dead branches on it I cut off.  My bushes look nice too

Many diffwerent species of Lantana. Over in Australia it is considered a noxious weed and grows in the wild. Basically, we aren't allowed to grow it (by law) due to it's noxious weed status.

Carlos has an appointment with the radiologist today (6-month follow-up). The fact that he is now on 6-month follow-up is very good. I'm pretty sure he will get a clean bill of health.

After the appointment, we are off to the mall to buy the last of the Christmas gifts for the grandkids. There are a few other things left to do-in terms of gifts but they are all coming together.

Still have to get this house in order. Both Carlos & I are going to town on it. We are making headway and should have everything done by the time the kids show up a week from today.

Today I decided to switch to digital television. Cable company had a limited time offer for the receiver necessary (only € 39,95 instead of € 99,95) so I decided to take the plunge.

So pretty soon (maybe even before Christmas?) I'll be watching 60 channels in digital quality (instead of the 30 channels in analog quality I have now), and it don't cost me more than I already paid. (Apart from the receiver, that is)

I'm even thinking of taking an additional package of some 40-odd more digital channels for only € 9,95 a month extra.

Spent the weekend at dai's mum's house.  Then she came back with us for Christmas.  There was a fair bit of snow in South Wales but the roads were reasonably clear except in the immediate vicinity of her house.  That said it took us nearly 2 hours longer to drive home today.  Sometimes only two of the three lanes on the motorway were drivable.

Have a dentist appointment today.  :P Still trying to get the house ready for the kids. Have been doing mega laundry (sheets, towels, blankets, etc) which I always do whenever we are going to have guests. I have also been trying to straighten things up so my place doesn't look like an episode of Hoarders. Also wrapping gifts & writing out cards. It is all coming together but I think I probably should have started a week before I actually did. And I found out that my youngest step-daughter, her husband & Granddaughter #4 will be here a day before everyone else so that leaves me with one day less to finish up.

Kids are home from school, Christmas vacation.  I've got wrapping to do and cards that need to be mailed.

Megan needed to get stitches in her leg last night, our bed frame is broken and it should have been fixed months ago but it wasn't, the kids were fooling around and Megan jumped off the bed and gashed her leg on the piece of bed frame sticking out.  It's a good thing my husband was home because I nearly passed out when I looked at it.  He was able to wrap it to slow the bleeding and I took her to the ER.  Man, were they quick, in and out in less than an hour.  I was impressed.  Add that to the list of the girl's injuries.

I hate it when stuff like that happens, the funny thing is my husband always looks at me like WHAT DO WE DO...  When youngest was 9 months old, I had to do the heimlich maneuver to get a piece of clover out of her windpipe, it closed the flap every time she inhaled (so she couldn't get any air in) but fluttered exhale, so she was choking on an itty bitty leaf that she managed to grab off the edge of the blanket outside.  When she was a 1 year, she fell down (youngest again) and had to get stitches in her chin, to the clinic.  When she was 2 she ate aspricream at grandma's house, 911 for that.  and then again this summer, when the calf kicked her (let alone the numerous poison control calls, as she was FAMOUS for getting child proof caps off, and scaring the bejees out of us.  Always the youngest.....  :P

Girls are moved upstairs, it has been very busy painting, moving furniture and such.  They slept up there for the first time (it was also the first time, they each had their own room, and were upstairs while we were still down).  Still have to finish their bathroom, but the plumber could not come till the first of the year.  We now have counter top in, it is gorgeous!  Now to finish with the upper cabinets, and some trim, tile back splash, and some lighting, and the kitchen will be done.  Finally went and cut down a real Christmas tree yesterday, and put it up last night.  Not my normal 6 trees, but it feels a little like the Holidays.  I just hope that the winter blues do not hit me too hard, as I have not felt like it was much the Holidays, as I haven't been able to cook up a storm and decorate.  :-\\

Oh my!!
My youngest is nothing like his sister, you would think being a boy he'd be the one we're always taking to the ER.
Had to call poison control for him once, he drank some extra Benadryl (I left it open on the counter and he grabbed it.).  Thankfully nothing happened except he fell asleep quickly and slept very soundly that night.  ;D

Carol glad your daughters okay. Bet you sometimes leave the benadryl out in purpose for the bit now  :D

Damn Sami. Is the youngest the same one who's always vomiting? ???

I drove back from AZ last nite. Worst drive ever. The rain was horrible. I hydroplaned three times and drifted (like skidding or fishtailing) a couple more.

I was gripping that wheel so hard my armsstill ache!
It's good to be home. Effie had a blast ('cept for all the driving.)

But my parents kept forgetting that she's a runner

My mom gave mr hard time about worrying about her and constantly checking where she is. They let her get away  3 times.  ::). My mom finally understood

1) my sad had friends visit. He opened the door and she shot out. She only got to the sidewalk. I think having new people over intrigued her so she came back.

2) I go to run errands. When I come back I can't find eff anywhere. I hear this yelping from the side gate. I thought she was stuck but she was outside if it. My sad had gone out front to water a plant. My mom opened the door to tellnhim how to water the plant  ::) (she's a bit of a micro manager) Effie got out either when he watered or when she opened the door. She was gone for at least 30 minutes and they never noticed
>:(  thank god she came back. Plus the live at a corner house. One side is a busy street. I'm so glad she didn't run into traffic.

3) on the last (you'd think they'd learn)  my dad opened the door for ups Effie shot past him and ran four houses away. Again thank god she ran towards the neighborhood and not the busy street.  You'd think. Watching  me scramble for her everytime the doorbell rang wouldve sunk in but NO!!!

They asked me to leave her there. I said why? So you can do a better job of losing her?  :P

I had a brain tumor and radiation shot through that ear.  I'm no expert, but perhaps there's some sort of brain damage that the CI cant fix).  She's also driving me nuts about volunteer and or work.  I don't know if there's a whole lot of work out there in which everything will be written for me.  Just keep practicing sign and hope I can remember and recall it.  Anyway, I'm in a lousy mood with my mom.

Yeah they always need people to walk dogs and stuff too. It's a good service and the animals don't care if you can hear.

You could learn some magic tricks and put on your jesters cap and entertain kids in the hospital. Maybe....

entertaining kids sounds great, but right now with me not hearing that great or recalling sign to communicate that way, helping out with animals is the way to go.  And like I said, go back to the library and clean books.

YEP!!!  I have a friend who works at an agency 60 miles north of here. She used to work with us. She told me the bitch called her to see if they were hiring. I asked if my friend planned on hiring her and my friend said "Hell no!"  ;D I begged my friend to change her mind but she won't because she knows the bitch and, my friend is the reason the bitch is working here now... the bitch had my friend fooled.... I told my friend two weeks after the bitch was hired that she would be trouble (I could tell there were a few signs) my friend said no way.... about two months later my friend said OMG what did I do.. I'm sorry- you were right...  ::)  then my friend left me alone about a year later.... I hate my friend  :D

true but if I hate to make a phone call or talk to someone to make arrangments then there might be some difficulties.  Over the internet works, but I'm not set up in a way where I have a phone or anything right now.  I've been paying off my CI with my money so Cant get a TTY phone for myself now.  In the past, mom has talked to me in panic about how I wont have enough SSI money to pay to live in the house I'm in now in if my brothers leave.  Something else to think about, but I can't salve anything while panicing.

If it were something you were truly interested in doing you could

1) set up a website and get an email address specifically for that purpose
2) send letters to the hospital children's wards. In the letter you could tell them that you are interested in entertaining kids and just starting out with this volunteer opportunity. You could explain to them that you are hearing impaired and still learning to sign so the only method of communication available to you is email.

Instead of focusing on what can't be done Ann you should start looking at ways to get around the fact that you can't hear. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like its going to change so look at the postive things and focus on what can be done rather than jumping to the negative all the time.

I've forgot how to do that.  Living with someone who behaves like my mom has in the past and then getting after me like she does for not knowing what to do and uncertin.  I do not have a clear view of What I can do in life, only what my mom will except.  Yeah although I don't much about building a website, I can do something like this if I wanted.  I'm wondering right now if I ought to find myself an apartment to live in for myself, hire someone to help me to check on me once in a while and maybe manage my SSI, get my computer all set up, and a TTY phone.  Just get the L away from her.  I cant seem to think clearly with her around and I cant think positively with her around.  I need to tell this to my Drail councelor.  I cant think of anything I'd like more at this time.  You know, besides green house work, the other thing I've always thought about doing was children parties.  One of the reasons I was told I couldn't do that was that I didn't have a car.  What if I took the bus to whereever I needed to go or worked at a business I'd bus to anyway?

I got up really early this morning and went to Walmart.  My dishwasher broke yesterday, after the power supply in my comp went Tuesday..this is not a good week.  I couldn't find a dish drain rack anywhere.  Thankfully not many people were there yet.  As a bonus, I found Sarah a new winter coat for $20.  It will help me wrap her pillow pet.  I couldn't figure that one out.  I got a big bag, the pillow pet will go on the bottom with the coat on top of it.  She will be totally surprised.  My favorite part of Christmas.

I love that song.

Our Christmas is over. Now I have time to give an account of the last few days.

On Wednesday when my youngest step-daughter & her family showed up, Carlos went out with our son-in-law to pick up a tree. They had to go into New York State to buy one because there were none left around here. (For those of you who are not aware, New York State is only about 2 miles from here so it was not THAT far to go. In fact, our favorite auction house is in NY State.) They brought home a BEAUTIFUL tree. After setting it up, and letting it open a bit, my step-daughter & I decorated it (with help from the almost 2 year old.) It was nice because we could just visit without being rushed or anything. They didn't have to worry about driving home. Then yesterday, the rest of the clan (sans the California contingency) showed up. We had the 7 year old (Granddaughter #1), the 2 year old & the 8 month old (Grandson) plus 7 adults (Step-daughter #2, Step-son, his wife, youngest step-daughter, her husband, Carlos & I). Yup-quite the house full. The poor cats didn't know what to do with all these people-not to mention a tree in the living room. But, they did ok. My new (old) table was such a hit (well, it was with me anyway). We only use 3 of the 7 leaves but there was plenty of room for everyone. Actually, this is such a big house that there was plenty of room for everyone and I don't think anyone felt cramp-(unlike everyone does when we all get together at my step-daughter's house and we have a couple of extra bathrooms).  Unfortunately, the kitchen is very small-but it works. Carlos made a WONDERFUL Puerto Rican Christmas dinner-pork roast, rice & beans, bacalaitos (codfish fritters), & sorullitos de maiz (corn sticks). For dessert, the kids brought a mixed fruit pie & cookies. (I'm just so upset that the kids left the cookies that weren't eaten last night here. That is so terrible because now I'm going to have to FORCE myself to eat them all.  ;) :D ;D ;D ;D )

We opened gifts after dinner. We got our usual-pics & home made stuff-what we ask for. We tell the kids not to buy us anything. Though, my REAL gift was having Christmas here.

We Skyped with the California contingency & also Carlos' sister-we tried last night but Skype was still having problems (they went down the day before) so we tried again this morning and it was better. Step-daughter #2 made pancakes this morning and we also had mimosa. After breakfast, they all packed up and went home.  :\'( :\'( :\'(  It was such a nice visit. They didn't stay long enough to be happy to have the house back but it is quiet that's for sure.

Going to in-laws tonight (with the aunt - whom has the "blood" niece...) , the plus side is we are having Ham sandwiches and soup, not loose meat hamburger and shells and cheese.  This is my husband's holiday to work (and weekend), so he is going in a 3 am so he can get home to watch the girls open their Christmas presents, so we are not going too far.  I bought a beef tenderloin to roast tomorrow, with mashed potatoes and green beans or corn.  My hubby called my mom to see if she wanted to spend Christmas with us, she never has don't know why she would now, and of course she is busy working and the furnace needs oiled.... ::)  So our Christmas is going to be small, I wish you could all be here.  I would enjoy having you all (even though my house is still somewhat of a disaster - but it is getting back together, filling drawers and cupboards now)!

Merry Christmas alll 8)

Well, this must be the crappiest Christmas I've had in years. :( Still not feeling too well (coughing continues), although better than two/three days ago.

And just when you think things couldn't possibly get any worse...
I've just checked on the progress of my poems in the poetry competition, and guess what? Apparently there was some mixup about the presentation of the results of Round 1.  >:( It turns out only ONE of my poems was through to Round 2. And not surprisingly, that one didn't make it to Top 100. Now I'm feeling gutted, robbed, angry, you name it - along with still being sick.

I was feeling hopeful and confident, because it initially said SIX (of my seven) poems were through, but now I'm feeling like a loser. Organization send out an email (on Christmas Eve!!) explaining the mixup, hoping it "wouldn't discourage anyone to enter next year's competition", but I'm not so sure anymore.

I took back a juiced to sears. No receipt so it was a hassle but I got 27 bucks on a sears card. I used it to buy $30 worth of iTunes cards so it cost me $3

Then I took ef on a 1.5 mile walk. (hence the new pics  8) )

In any type of art it is best to do it for yourself, and not for what anyone else.  Writing hoping for recognition in general doesn't generally work, and many times the best works aren't appreciated in the writers lifetime.  In the United States Herman Melville and Emily Dickinson are icons to the written word, but neither received anywhere near the recognition during their lifetimes then they did after passing away.  Then there is Van Gogh.  If any type of art is in your heart it is best to do it without fretting about how others will judge it.  Be your own judge, the rest is fluff.

You're right, of course. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and stuff - though it would be nice to get some recognition while I'm still alive. ;)

Still... The first round selection was supposed to be based on objective criteria. Makes me wonder what exactly those criteria are (they weren't published on the website). :-\\

I tried to go last nite but I forgot my user name and password so I need to get to my computer (which is completely blocked right now) and see if Mozilla remembers it for me.

There is ease and convenience, when I sit down to do pictures, it is because I have time to do it.  I do not want to have to worry about limits.  It completely made me quit flicker, I either use photobucket, or picnik (for editing) and then they go to my fb account too.  But because I can just hit a button on my phone to load it to fb, that is where all my pics go as well, for immediate gratification.  I hardly ever remember to carry a camera with me, so I have the phone for quick pics, and updates and then just hit the button and update everyone on there.  Walla instant gratification, it is all about time and convenience!

None of my pictures will be of recognition category, and that is not important to me.  They are just of my family, and usually birthdays, concerts, and other special days... as I am terrible about keeping a camera with me anyway (and if I do have it, I don't get it out till it's too late).  I just want convenience, an to share my happy moments with as much ease as possible  8)

As for me, most of them are taken with my phone!  Thank god it takes alright pictures!  Not the grainy ones I see taken on other's phones, but the flash on my phone seems to be a tad delayed or early for the actual photo (sometimes I get black pictures when I have the flash one - a matter of frustration, but haven't taken the time to look if there is a setting for this)

I'm sick! I've been sicker but still I'm sick.
I cannot breathe out of my right nostril. (why is it always just one nostril with me)
Last night, because congestion was the worst issue I took benadryl. But a few hours layer I was coughing and stuff so I took my generic robutussin.
This morning my whole body ached. I felt like  I went 15 rounds with mike Tyson.
And I didn't get one punch in.  >:(

More cough med. More sleep. Now I ache less
And I can breath a little thru the nostril.

I have no chicken soup and no oj. And no energy to go to the store.

Benedryl is only good for runny noses, Psuedoephedrine (sudafed) is what you need for stuffed up/congested noses...  Take the advice from a mommy, even though I am not your mommy.  Wish I could send you some of my homemade chicken noodle soup, but perhaps you prefer the canned stuff, my girls won't touch it (unless dad is home with them, and I have none stashed in containers in the freezer, then they have no choice).

Hugs... and love you perhaps Karma will make you feel a little better!

Glad you're feeling better Philip and Howard

Sounds like the flu to me. Maybe I've infected you... Karma and hugs coming your way. Get well soon!

Took a decongestant las night and forgot they are like a legal version of speed, was WIDE AWAKE and buzzing for most of the night until it wore off.  :D

Been to the shops today. I bought a dress and a purple cloche hat! My parents also called in on their way back from buying 2 new sofas. They went out to get a new TV and bought sofas instead. ::) Gotta love em.

Gis decongestants have the opposite effect on me.

Happy birthday to Sarah dag (& my condolences to you  ;) )

Sadly I have to go to work to reset the computers. This requires a 20-25 minute drive in, less than 15 minutes on the computer (logging on will probably take longer than resetting the case numbers)  then 20-25 minutes to drive home.

Did I mention I'm still sick?  >:(

No one else has security clearance to do it. Well my boss does but she gets paid the big bucks to stay home (plus I honestly don't think she knows how to do it.)

I wish they'd up my authority so I can do this shyt from home.

And consider my advice as a biotech nerd (but remember that I'm not a doctor).  Even if they have to swipe your driver's license in Freedomerica, swipe it.  You're not a meth-head, and even if your government wants to treat you like one, you want pseudoephedrine, not that phenylephrine crap.  Pseudoephedrine is an effective decongestant, and phenylephrine, in most cases, is no more effective than a placebo.

Seconded.

I had a bit of a cold earlier in the week myself (I'd caught it from my mom, who'd caught it from my dad on Christmas Eve morning), and now I think I'm just about completely over it.

Just got back from a great few days away with friends.  This group has met every new year for 35 years.  About 13 years ago we were invited to join them and have been invited back ever since.  Last year we were invited to be members of the club!

Anyway, we go to a youth hostel in North Wales.  The usual format is walks to suit various abilities during the day and then games, singing, other entertainment in the evening, followed by a race on New Year's Day.

we drove up on Wednesday and had time for a short walk to a lake.  The path had been well made to prevent erosion in the area but ice/snow made it tough in places.  I'm hoping the photos we took of the reflections and the misty lake turn out well.

On Thursday we went for a walk partway up Mount Snowdon.  There is a reasonable loop to do from the hostel.  The group consisted of Dai, me, Elizabeth, James, a friends son Matthew - a year older than James, and Brian - club president and long-time mountaineer.  A real mix of age and abilities!  There was a lot of other walkers going up the track with us at varying speeds.  Snow patches across the path made it tricky in some areas.  The worst part was just after where we should have turned off the path.  Brian was navigating and said the turn off was just a little bit up the hill past a steep narrow icy section.  Just as we get to the top of this he realises we'd walked past the marker stone!  Brian was not actually turning back at this point - he wanted to go to the summit, another hours walk - so the rest of us had to descend the steep icy part again before heading down the hill.  The path is a little vague in parts anyway but the snow obscured much of it.  We just kept zig-zagging down to Glas Lyn (a lake) to the more level clearer path.  We sat at some old mine ruins to eat lunch and then set off on a much smoother path around Lyn Llydaw and back to the hostel. Further along this path we bumped into two friends of ours from town - we had no idea they were in the area!

On Friday Dai went out with a group to walk over Cnicht.  I went with some other friends and their children to explore a disused slate mine, a ruined castle and an indoor play area!  In the evening we had a lovely meal (45 of us in one room) followed by games, a sing song and a pantomime.  We all gathered together just before midnight to sing Auld Lang Syne and finally got to bed around 1.00.

I should write about today's race in the January thread I guess!  Plus my computer only displays part of what is in the reply box so I can't actually read what I'm typing at this point!

I love pseudoephedrine...  Take it everyday in my Claritin D ( I get all stuffed up with allergies, not the runny nose variety).  The problem is I have to buy it, and get swiped everytime, and yes I feel like any day the cops should be coming by my house to case me for meth...  but my kids get sick, and I need a decongestant cold medicine, and as they only sell the small bottles (and with 2 kids you more than likely need  a truck load) and then hubby gets sick... Hmmmm sorry we cannot sell you 2 bottles (even though you see my stuffed up miserable girls right next to me).  I am tired of "bad" people making it miserable for those of us who work, pay taxes and do our best to be fit members of society...

Wonderful stuff that pseudoephedrine!  No drowsiness and I can function during the day.  Now benedryl, made for drippy noses and can knock one out faster than a light switch (with me it only knocks me out initially then after 2 hours I am wide awake and my teeth are chattering, because I am FREEZING - weird I know but happens everytime).
