My fave has to be "Festivus" (Idea taken from Seinfeld) Here is the first "Festivus" as the "Gunsmoke" gang gets ready to start partying.  What's yours?

BOXING DAY

One of the most "ear-et-able" of winter festivities - the festival goes back to the days of Julius Caesar when he made his famous quote "Lend me your ears".  This particular reveler took it literally.  Gladiator events were the fare of the day back then. These days, boxing matches are conducted for entertainment and some sportly betting have become the norm on this day.

HOGMANAY

Scottish New Year's Eve Festival - Custom is to apply as much as 5 inch layers of mayo to roasted hog and gorging oneself to the edge of oblivion.  Partiers go hog wild at this annual pig-out to bring in a prosperous New Year.  The combination of copious amounts of mayo with fatty pork is believed to ward off evil spirits in the New Year and bring prosperity.  Mayo is a MUST!

FEAST of FOOLS, Jan 1

The feast's precurser actually begins on Dec 31, it's full effect is felt the next day as the effects of alcohol poisoning begins to wear off and some of the few that remained sober though the night remind the drunks of what a good time they all have had.  Somehow it's just not quite as much fun on the 1st as it is on the 31st.  You'd think they'd learn - thus the name - "Feast of Fools".

WATCH NIGHT: 31 December

http://downatthirdman.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/da-nachtwacht.jpg

Started back before American colonial times, night watchmen who drew the short staw to work on New Years Eve would clandestinely gather for spirits and festivity.
