Hello and happy February to all!  We start the month off here in NY with more snow.  I don't really mind it, except there is nowhere to put it once you've shoveled.

I'm throwing a murder mystery party for my daughter on Saturday, so I hope the snow gods can hold off that day  :D

So yes, I'm free. :D Although I'll still be taking pills for the next couple of weeks.

Good news then, I'm glad your tummy rolls well dear henk.

Still Snowed in - absolutely no maintainer has been down our road (the drift the one way is higher than the 4wd truck cab; the other way it is 3' deep and about 25' long, could have busted through it if it just wasn't so long)...  Still stuck in the house.  Thankful all are happy, healthy, and warm!

Still snowed in.  I can get outside, but we cannot get anywhere (ok neighbor's, across the street - they have chickens so we have plenty of eggs), and no one can get to us.  Hubby's dad tried with the tractor mounted snowblower (used to blow the cattle lots clear of snow) He got to within a mile of our house and the drifts were so big, that he sheared a pin on the blower (he thought it was just a little TOO much for the old girl).  No school again today (as the impassible roads).  We are all happy (well daughter is mad at me because I made her go read), and healthy, and have plenty of groceries - HA and I did not go shopping the day before (my house is normally well stocked for an army)!  I think I may make some cookies  8)

I am glad no one is sick, as it would be hard to get them to a doctor or for medicine.  Not sure what anyone would do in an emergency situation :-\\

I LOVE winter!  It is why I live in the midwest.  I love playing in snow.  When I was with the city, I worked in it and still loved it (plowing snow, shoveling sidewalks, snow blowing, clearing ice skating ponds, cutting down trees/tree limbs, picking up trash in parks, clearing playgrounds, applying snow mold fungicide to the golf greens, etc...).  I went out yesterday and shoveled our drive... still can't get anywhere but it is done, and I was able to be outside.

I actually dislike spring the most.  Things are ugly till they start growing, and the muddy mucky mess, and the cold rainy days.  I will say that the nice days, are nice, but there are too many of the  icky days.

After being here for 3 weeks, I was able to break in my new swimsuit because we FINALLY went to the beach today. YAY!!!! My FIL also came with us which surprised us (it also surprised my SIL when we told her). We both had mixed feelings about this because on one hand, we were glad that he joined us and got out of the house but on the other hand, we were sorry because we were hoping for a little alone time. Oh well.

Cycling to work this morning on a shared pedestrian/cyclist path.  Approaching dad with kids.  Kid says to dad "That cyclist needs to watch where she's going", Dad replies "Yes, especially when there's young children around"  This cyclist is thinking "well if you taught your kids to step slightly to one side instead of jigging about the place it wouldn't be a problem"  >:(

Some areas have seperate bike paths (doesn't stop people walking on them but I have less problems with cutting close to them in that case).  But for various reasons there are a few sections of combined paths which are a nightmare for all concerned.  I bet the councillors don't cycle/walk on them

was it the first half of drink number one or the last half of drink number two... something tells me it most definitely happened sometime after the first half of the first drink was consumed otherwise you would have reacted differently.  ;D

I drank the first half of the first drink and then I don't know what he did-he was doing something and the drink ended up on me. There was still a little bit left to it. But then I got a second one.

thanks.. I have this thing about nature photos. I like an anchor in the foreground so when you look at the background you're looking past something to see it...  almost all of my nature shots have something in the foreground... a leaf, a branch a rock... something. :-)

My mom and dad are coming in for a visit later today.  They'll be staying in a motel later.  (Both of our guest rooms are packed full of stuff).  Mom wants to hit the casino and we'll probably do some thrift stores too, not sure what dad wants to do.

The Super Bowl is tomorrow, they are closing off parts of the city in preparation for celebrations (win or lose, people will be coming out of the bars and usually milling about the street. making it hard to get cars through.  ::) )  Some businesses are actually closing early so that their employees can go home and watch the Super Bowl.   ;D

yes, pricey!  But you get what you pay for.  I know people who replace pc laptops yearly (hp, Dell, and toshiba) because of all the problems they have had - that seems to be a lot of work for me!  I want a new Mac desk top!

I've had my desk top for about 7yrs... I have gone thru two lap tops but that's because the first one I got was a gift and it was HUGE and not really what I wanted or needed... ultimately I bought myself a laptop it was 500 bucks and that was 3 yrs ago... It still working fine. The issue is actually with my desktop- the memory is maxed out on the c drive... I can no longer update itunes... I was thinking about getting a new desktop and just checked into the macbooks out of curiosity... a coworker suggested I clone go to some techy place and buy a bigger hard drive and clone the one I've got... I dunno.. I think I just want a new desk top...  ;D  that's what tax returns do to me.. I have never, ever learned how to put money away for a rainy day.. I only know how to spend, spend, spend!  :D

Wonderful day. Great food, great company. I just love Carlos' cousins. They are bunch of super nice people. Even when they were all speaking Spanish and couldn't understand what they were saying, I could tell that they all enjoyed each other's company and were just having a good time. But, they all spoke English to me.

It was funny when we were on our way there. We turned where we thought it should be but it wasn't. Then we made another turn and Carlos said, "I'm sure this isn't it" and turned around. We finally called (when we could get a signal) and his cousin came out to meet us. Come to find out, we turned around RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE!!! It wasn't that close to the beach so we didn't get to go swimming (but had our swimsuits in the car) but that was fine because these people are so delightful and I enjoyed visiting with them.

When Carlos' kids come down, we are going to rent a van. I found a place in San Juan that had cheaper prices than the national companies but was a little cautious about it. I asked today and everyone said that they were good and one of Carlos' cousins knows one of the co-owners of the place and will be able to get a good deal.

We left the party a bit earlier than we wanted to because Carlos' dad. He was basically partyed out.  :-\\

I do that all the time. It is my E.S.P. I can't tell you how many times I will say something and someone else will tell me, "I was just thinking of that." or "I was just about to ask that." One time my youngest step-daughter told a friend that I do that all the time and that she hates it when I do that.  :D ;D ;D ;D

And yes, PR is on Atlantic time-4 hours difference from you this time of year. In the summer only 3 hours because they don't change their clocks.

I was looking at them but they are so expensive...

They cost more, but while all my friends with Microsoft systems have bought and bought and bought, I have had 3 Macs in 15 years and have only had to take it in for service once.  In the long run I have spent less and have had less trouble.

yeah I just haven't had that problem with PCs. I've had one virus in all the years I've owned pcs and the only reason I bought a new one was to upgrade once I became familiar more familar with them. I've had two desk tops and two laptops since 96 both each replacement I made the machines were running fine I just wanted better models.

my current desktop (the 7 or 8 yr old one) runs fine my only issue is a memory storage issue otherwise the machine runs as well as it did the day I got it.

No butter.

BTW, that was only just the FIRST batch. There was at least twice as many as that-maybe more. But I only ate 2.

I worked this morning then Effie and I drove to San Jose. Hi BFF! anywho she hates long drives (so do I)

The hotel is awesome. It's a residence inn so it's like a studio apt.  There's a stove w/ oven and a dishwasher. You know.... The amenities I don't have in my own apt. They put me on the 1st floor right by the exit and there's a large patch of grass for miss Effie so I don't have to go far in the morning for her bathroom.
I took her for a mile walk tonight. I'll do that every night but it's nice to know I won't have to do that at 6 am

Oh- bonus- the class I'm attending is right here in the hotel so no travel time. Now I can get up take Effie out shower and relax until 750.

I did make a comment about not having butter but I could manage them without. Besides, you know how many calories are in butter? I am trying to lose some weight you know.

As for only eating two, I didn't want to eat them ALL-I figured I would leave some for others. lol.

Cat- it's a dispatch supervisors course. Two weeks long.
Luckily work allowed me to stay over the weekend. It seems logical right? But people were telling me they've been to classes and had to drive home on Friday and back on Sunday. I hate driving so that wouldve sucked. Plus I wouldve had to pay $100 deposit twice for eff. This way it's just once.

Today I walked Effie a mile at lunch and a mile in the evening  8)

Oh the bad news. Of all the dumb luck one of my dispatchers #3 on my list of problem dispatchers.... His brother is in the class too  ::)
How am I supposed to talk openly and get advice about my problem children now?

James just found out the hard way what happens when you only apply the front brake to the bike when riding single-handed!

He was practicing riding single-handed for signalling purposes (he holds his hand down by his side to lessen the wobbling - we'll move onto proper signalling when he's mastered this bit!).  we were approaching the traffic lights outside our house and had to stop.  James jammed on his brake and sorta jack-knifed the bike!  I must have looked a callous mum as I hauled him and the bike upright and made him get back on!  There was no tears, no visible blood and it was a v short distance home.  Much better than dropping his trousers in public to assess the damage  ;D

Going to Sears to buy a stackable washer/dryer. We also have to get a drying rack but I THINK that is basically it for the house.

My SIL comes home tomorrow and we will be back at our house-YAY!!!! Of course that means no t.v. & no DLS-but we have the wifi (which is about as good as dial-up  ::) ) And the phone reception sucks. But it is OUR space-and a BIGGER bed.

As for me I walked two miles again today. This time all at once. It took me an hour but so what I did it. I mean we did it. Effie was happy. She got major cabin fever.

Also. Imtgere a scale in the work out room I was wearing tennis shoes pants and a long sleeve shirt when I stepped on it said I'm 12 lBS lighter than I am at home. By no means do I think I lost 12 lbs in 3 days. Maybe 2 or 3 but it still felt good.

I know what you mean. I have been using my SIL/FIL's scale. It is not quite at 0 (heavier) but it says that I am 4 lbs lighter than my own scale. I don't want to take stock in it because I know every scale is different. I just wish I knew where I am on OUR scale. That way I will know if these exercises I am doing is paying off. (BTW, the shorts I am wearing right now are VERY loose-so that is a good sign. )

Got an email from a Paley friend this morning
We met almost 4 yes ago at some event and became really close
She lives in LA and we often go to events together or just meet up for lunch

She lost her mom two yes ago and subsequently became really close to her aunt.
She introduced me to her aunt at an event (we had extra Tix and Pamela jean was excited to be there)

I lbe never met anyone so full of joy and spunk. She was a super sweet and charming woman. She was always happy when I saw her and genuinely excited about the whole Paley vibe ( don't know how to explain it but there's a surge of energy when you go. It's like drugs.

Anyway she lost the battle with breast cancer this morning and I'm really gonna miss her.

I am a pro at packing. It usually takes me about an hour or so to REALLY pack (even for a 7 week trip  ;) ). I usually start with mega outfits and then whittle it down. I probably still overpack but I do like to have choices but I still manage to fit everything in one bag (that includes Carlos' stuff, too-yup the two of us use one bag.) We don't have to worry about something to sleep in because we both usually sleep in the nude.  :o :o :o  We do bring something along just in case we end up on someone's couch and don't have a private bedroom.

I'm sorry Q  :\'(

we need the good ones to go on. Unfortunately I usually feel like they pass more frequently away than the pain-neck's ones.

How old was she ? I got a friend bearing a throat cancer since more than a year and I'm afraid he would fail any day.

A hug for you little Q

and be patient with those who don't pick your words at first sight, just me among them too.  :-*

Looks like I might be moving later this year after all... More news to follow (wait till Thursday).

Make that a 'yes'.  :D

After my rather disappointing try at the new appartment complex nearby my current residence, I decided to try my luck at another new appartment building complex in another part of town. I wasn't very hopeful, but much to my surprise I turned out to be 10th on the list (with 44 appartments still available)! :o
And when I turned up for the actual pick this afternoon, my chances had even improved: only three people before me had shown up. And then, to top it all, the appartment that was my first choice was still available!!  :D :D

So, long story short, I will be moving - as soon as the complex is completed (scheduled for May/June 2011). 8)

I was gonna upload some pictures of the new appartment building, but there appears to be a problem at my usual host.

So if you're curious: just google for any images with keywords "assisi" and "den helder" (there should be about 7 or 8 relevant images).

The beach was great-but man was the wind whippin'. After taking a dip, Carlos & I walked down the beach. I found a starfish in the water. On the way back, I found a starfish almost buried in the sand (yeah, it was already dead) so I brought it back with us. We walked down the other way and this couple came up to us and asked us to take their photo. We basically exchanged cameras-we shot them and they shot us. There were a few people from the States there-trying to escape the snow, I'm sure. It was a REALLY nice day!

Now, that I'm all showered, time to look at the photos we took today.

Not really. :-\\ Well...there is some water to the north, but it's definitely not a river. And I wouldn't call it a canal either. More like an oversized rectangular pond.

I've attached three images. My appartment is in the northmost building (for both the model and drawing goes: top = north, bottom = south).
You can sorta see it in the third picture. It's on the second floor (or is it third?) on the right hand side.

I think we have been adopted!

A few weeks ago when we were here, one night was a little kitty who was sitting on the sidewalk right in front of our place. I went and got something for her to eat (the only thing we had basically was ham.) At first she was nervous but before long, she was eating out of my hand. Tonight, the kitty (I believe it is the same one) was back. I went to get some ham and before I could give her any, another kitty came up-meowing up a storm and basically stole the ham from my hand. I believe these two are siblings. They are about the same age (VERY young-I would say about 6 months or so-maybe a month or two older.) So, I was trying to distract the aggressive one while trying to feed the more timid one. After giving them a couple pieces of ham, I just sat on the porch. The aggressive one (male) came around the fence and came up to the porch. Carlos went inside and got a couple pieces of cheese. The timid one (female) did come around, too. Again, I tried to distract the male so the female could eat. I did try to feed them bread. They ate a bit of it but wasn't too keen-or maybe they were just full by then. When they were done, they both came up to us and let us pet them and scratch them. He (a tuxedo cat/black & white) just looked like a Pete to me so that is what I called him. Carlos said, "Pedro" (I mean after all we are in Puerto Rico). Ok Pedro. But he still looks like a Pete. So, what should we name the girl. I thought Repeat-so we have Pete & Repeat.  :D ;D ;D ;D  Naaaa. She seems like a sweetie so I wanted a nice name for her. Carlos kept coming up with names. Two he mentioned I think are good names: Nadia & Tanya. But, I think I have settled on Nadia. So, we have Pete (or Pedro) & Nadia. Tomorrow, Carlos said that he is going to buy some cat food. (He talked about that before but we kept forgetting.) I'll post pics later.

Now, Carlos is across the street watching a ball game. He wants me to go with him. Tomorrow, my SIL & I are off to the casino.  ;D ;D ;D

I has dinner with some high school friends. Same ones I hooked up with nearly two years ago.
It was great. I was surprised so many came. We were a group of 7. One drove two hours. Two 1 1/2. Another 2 drove an hour and one was 30 mins away. The one who lived closest gave up plans with her girlfriend, their 15 mo old son and her GFs best friends to hang with us.

I'm always amazed and humbled that people would go thru such hoops to see me. And at the risk of sound full of myself these people live within an hour of each other (some within 30 minutes) actually two live in the same town and they never get together.

Indeed!

I was being silly.  It got up to 50 freakin' degrees (10 degrees celcius for you Europeans, Canadians, and probably Australians too)
We're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave.

I haven't personally seen the Aurora Borealis lights here, although I've seen pictures taken by local-ish astronomers who have somehow caught the lights on certain days a few years back.

We got out of the house, drove around trying to decide what to do, watched everybody with a nice car lining up at the car wash (getting all the salt residue and ash they use to tend to the ice and snow on the road) off their cars, and finally ended up eating at an Indian food buffet.  Yum.

Now I am taking a break from cleaning the living room and kitchen (our trash pick-up is tomorrow morning.)  Hubby is doing laundry because the washer and dryer is in the basement and the stairs are... rather ricketdy and he doesn't want me on them in case they fall down.  Fine by me.  lol

I haven't personally seen the Aurora Borealis lights here, although I've seen pictures taken by local-ish astronomers who have somehow caught the lights on certain days a few years back.

Once when I was really, really, really, young my father dragged us all out of bed to see the aurora.  I remember him saying, you have look and to remember this because you may never see it again.  I remember.

I have yet to see the Aurora Borealis but Carlos has. I know it is possible in Vermont. I'm just hoping that I will get to see it.

Think again.  Yesterday's M-Class flare should be just about here by now.  Expect heightened auroral activity until around Feb 17th.

Having friends come to visit us. They are only going to be staying until Friday. Today & Friday are basically travel days so that means only two days to just visit & show them the sights. With such a short visit, you ask, "why bother?" But, it should be nice & I'm sure will we have fun.

Because his brother and sister have downs they are probably already in the social security system with a social worker who, hopefully, will see to it they are cared for.  A lot of this depends on a lot of different factors, such as guardianship and who the estate was left to.  There isn't much that you can do about any of this, but trust it will come out alright.

Had a nice day yesterday. Took our guests around, showed them the beaches, took a swim, then took a drive into the mountains. It was just a quick tour. They left about 10 or so this morning. They want to see some place today and then they fly back home tomorrow. Carlos & I are like, "Why even bother if you were only going to stay a day & a half." Hopefully, next time they will stay longer.

So now, we have a few extra days to get ready for the next wave of guests (Sunday).

I had a most excellent day.

I have whined in the past about my PITA employees who think it is okay to call in sick once or twice a pay period, leave whenever they want and mess around instead of work.

Well, today my boss decided we need to get rid of some people because we don't have the work.  Guess who is gone!  Guess who is doing the happy dance! :D

I know it seems mean to enjoy them losing their jobs, but they need to learn that they can't get away with their behavior without consequences.  One of them got written up for excessive absences and had the nerve to yell at me, her boss by the way, because I had said it was okay to stay home when she called in.  That doesn't mean there is consequences, it means that I am not your mom or your babysitter.  You do what you will but you are the one who needs to take responsibility for it and pay the consequences if there are any.

Translation, grow up kiddos, the real world is about to slap you across the face.

Really this is how you feel?  I guess we have taken whatever opportunity to see people, even if it is only a couple of days.  Sometimes that is all the time we get, as both of us work and schedules do not coincide.  We have taken many vacations for 4 days. I always feel it is better to try and see the people we are visiting, then not going because of the time constraints.  I also feel like short vacations do not "inconvenience" people as much as long vacations, and they do not have the time off to spare and such.

Hmmmm, I guess I need to rethink this ...

It is one thing if they were going across country and stopping here and then there on their way to someplace else or if they lived a few hours away. This time, the three of them all paid for a plane ticket (at least over $500 each-probably more) and then they left Vermont about 6 a.m. and finally got to our place after 6 p.m.) So they got to spend one day with us, and then (I hope) they got to see the other place they wanted to-all for over $1500 (not to mention the cost of the rental car, hotel that they stayed at last night and the hotel they stayed in the day before flying out). That's what I meant about "Why bother." I really don't think the cost of that particular trip was worth the price-but that is what they wanted. And we were very happy to see them.

FINALLY bought my SIL that bedroom set that we have been talking about forever. We thought we were going to give her the one in our spare bedroom but bought her an entirely different set. Then we helped her rearrange her bedroom so when the new set gets delivered, her room will be ready. She gave her old desk so now I have something to put the laptop on other than the kitchen table. Even though it is not a desk that I would have chosen myself, at least now I don't have to keep moving the laptop when we need to eat when we have guests.

I'm about ready to get into a shower and then we are going out to eat with my SIL & FIL.

give to my mom for rent and food  I think that's what she's thinking, but if she cant explain anything then she's not much help.  My thought is how is just thrwing a check to my mom making me more independent?  I just got done talking to my dad too and he wanted to know what gave her the right to decide on $500?

I am going to read all the SSI info online myself again.  There is Drail on tuesday in which I will ask her to explain things a little better and or maybe decide to never see her again.

I think I might be able to do this still and if not it it seemed SSI would have no problem letting me have a payee again,

My mom might seem strange but it's my adviser that seems to have a problem

I think it's teaching you money management. If you lived on your own even with assistance you'd have to pay something to rent and for food. Plus utilities. Instead of complaining see the value of it - it's something you've never had to dealnwithbbegore. Way better to learn at home rather than finding out in the real world where it can do major damage.

How is throwing a check at my mom and saying here you deal with it managing money?  That was my first thought

SSI report I gave a $500 check to my mom.

I'm good at asking 200,000,000 questions and I'm going to make sure I ask them.

Because, and you can correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like for the first time in your life you are actually getting your checks.
When you have never had a lot of money to manage at one time it can be easy to misspend it. Ie spending too much on fun stuff and leaving any over for emergencies or at the end of the month.

Technically you do not really have those issues because you live in your patents house. You do not have to worry about the lights, cable, water, trash and a dozen other things you would have to worry about if you were on your own

If you didn't pay your mom $500 then you wouldn't know what it was like having to make a regular monthly payment to someone for the things you need like a roof over your head or food in your fridge

If you just moved out and started paying those things on your own you could find yourself short at the end of the month because you've had no experience balancing a budget.

By making you pay your mom is (whether you like it or not) teaching you how to manage your money.

Plus you're like 27 yes old right? Disability or not at some point if you are capable (and you seem to be) you have to start paying your own way. Just because your montage birth to you or adopted you or whatever your situation is doesn't mean she expected to take care of you your whole life

I'm sorry ann but you really need to stop botching about your mom. You don't Luke the way she treats you too bad. You got dealt a bad hand in life it happens deal with it.

You have it worse than a lot of people but you have it spool much better than a whole lot of people too.  Play the cards you were dealt and try to make something of it.

Ann you're going to be 29 and it's time you learn how to give your mom a $500 check

My parents want me making them income,

There is an extreme negitive point of view coming from my parents and I realize that.  I to tend to be on the negitive side right now.  My plan of action as the payee is to review all the SSI information to make sure nothing has changed and I understand and to ask my adviser a bunch of questions when I see her.  That's the best things I think I can do for myself right now.

The ever so popular 1997 Aussie movie "Welcome To Woop Woop". (Not that I've seen it, mind you. I just found this on IMDb. ;D)

I haven't seen it either - no idea where I heard that quote from then ;D

Have a good time in Japan.

Where is Woop Woop?  ???

Thanks Howard  :)

As everyone said, it doesn't exist - it basically means "too far for me to travel to"  ;)

Sorry about the job, Manda, that sucks.  Have fun in Japan, though.

Thanks Dag - Japan should be heaps of fun! I've heard you can get whatever you want from a vending machine  8)

Sorry to hear the news, a trip to Japan, does it have job prospects?

Thanks Philip - no job prospects - just a nice holiday :)

sorry about the job Amanda but yay on the trip to Japan.. you know. I hear English speakers can make some money in Japan. I had a friend who worked as a teacher there and there were families who paid her quite a bit of money to sit and talk english to their children... just an idea!

Just got a phone call from my SIL who said that if I wanted to go to the casino, this would be the day to go. I made a comment about it yesterday to Carlos and he thought that my SIL was tapped out. (She did win the last time.) So, she said that she will come and pick me up in about an hour.

I do know what snoz is saying and I know the view point my parents are coming from.  I have to work out whatever with them or leave.  I just feel like leaving at this point.  Am I just lazy? Can I take care of myself or get myself help to do so?   Will I get the SSI adjustment for that? Is this a fear of the unknown?

To many questions, for one mind, to be askin?

Dai and the kids went to the US on Friday for a week visiting friends.  I would have had to take unpaid leave (due to the screwy way they work out leave entitlement) so I decided to stay here and go to work next week instead  :\'(

Today I went to IKEA and Decathlon (sports warehouse)  I bought myself some black leggings to wear at Morris dancing - it's part of the 'uniform'.  I looked at black trainers (sneakers) but the ladies ones didn't go up to my size.  The men's ones of a similar style cost about three times the price!!

In Ikea I was looking at curtains mainly.  I was tempted to buy some in a rosey pink (style name was Dagny!) but they were only available in one size - long and narrow, whereas I want wide and short - so I would have had to buy two pairs per window and cut loads off the bottom.  ::)

I went to another shop nearby (Laura Ashley) and spotted some nice curtains.  I was looking for a price label and a bloke behind me remarked to his wife "I don't care how nice they look, I'm not paying £500 for a pair of curtains".  :o So I stopped looking for the price label!

I'm dying of laughter right now... unfortunately it's at the expense of a very good friend but still... I am so relieved.

As you know- (if you were paying attention) I had a huge ass who worked for me and made things miserable in dispatch. He recently failed out of the police academy.... of course he's arrogant so probably instead of being humbled he probably just thinks the instructors who are idiots who can't find they buts with a flashlight....

anyway I heard dude came to talk to the chief and I was afraid he was going to try and get his job back.
turns out he still is trying to get a job with CHP (he's been waiting two- almost three yrs now)  anyway he also put in an app at a dispatch center about an hour north of here.

The director of that dispatch center is a really, really good friend of mine. She's the one who told me he failed out of the academy. We used to work together here and I often call her to vent so she's very aware of what he's like.  Funny thing is I never really vented to her in the beginning.  She was teaching a class and I sent him to it and she called me after the first night and asked me who the eff that a-hole was and why in the hell did I subject her to him  ;D   after that comment I called her all the time to bitch.... so she knows exactly what he's like.

She's all pissed at the prospect that she might have to work with him  ;D

I need to have a talk with my mom and dad about the SSI situation.  My Drail advisor says just give your mom a $500 check.  My mom has already made me buy my own tv dinners and label them.  I'm not sure how she's going to make pizza for the family and tell me I cant eat it or charge me 1/5 of every food she makes.  I feel like my mom just wants to be impossible.

There are many plants that are "drought and heat" resistant, but that is only after they get well established...  They should still be babied and cared for the first year, the second year a little less, the third year even less; the fourth year they will take care of themselves.  But they may not bloom or look real well, but they will survive!

They must be established.  I've just had a hard time getting stuff established in the past, but not that I found a good spot and got a hedgerow established (separation of full sun and full sun in summer only), I'm ready to start getting into spots with more sun and get them established before losing them.

i just got a kick ass deal on a printer!!!

so check this out....  I decided on the 1st that I wanted to buy a wi-fi printer... I have two printers in my house... one for my desktop (that I need to upgrade soon - the desktop not the printer)  and one for my laptop (cuz I'm too lazy to walk to the other room and hook up the laptap to the desktop...

anyway... I started looking at kodak printers cuz I like them.

I found two wi-fi printers I liked. One was 249 and the other same model without the fax capabilities was 219.  I thought I could do better than kodak.com so I went to amazon and found the same printers for 199 and 179.... but I was leaving for San Jose for my work trip soon so I decided to wait....

While in SJ I heard an ad from best buy. Turn in a printer and get a kodak printer (like the ones I was looking at) for $50 less.... I thought sweet but my printer is in santa barbara (about 350 miles away)  so I did nothing.

Yesterday, my first day back in town, I went to Bestbuy.com and found my printers for 149 and 129. I called to see if they are still running the special and the girl said yes thru tomorrow....

I came home and unhooked my printer (a 6yr old HP in perfect condition btw)  and took it to work with me. After work I went to best buy to trade it in. Bad news...
the girl mislead me... apparently she meant the offer ended on saturday nite.  I was not a happy camper.

the girl who helped me said they were now running a similar deal on HP printers (Just in case you're interested and still reading you can take an old printer into BB and get 50 crredit towards an HP printer)  I told her I'd already spent my time researching the kodak printer and I knew what I wanted

on my way out (pissed) I saw the manager and decided to tell him how pissed off I was because I was really looking forward to buying the damn printer and now I was walking out empty handed because the girl I talked to on the phone on Sat. was not educated in the dates of their store promotions.

He said hold on and did some research... turns out the printer I wanted with the fax was no longer avail  but the same model without the fax was actually on sale for $99 so I would be getting cheaper than the price advertised yesterday because the list price he was looking at said 179.  I said 'so, when I looked online yesterday and it was advertised at 129 that was the price with the printer trade-in? Because it definitely did not say that in the fine print."

I guess he realized I'd done my home work so he gave me the printer at the 129 price minus 50.... meaning I paid 79.99 for a printer I saw listed three weeks ago at 219!!!  8)  It's on order cuz the store sold out but I should have it in about 5 days and it's totally worth the wait!

(This person actually flew into California on Friday night, but has spent the weekend with her brother, who lives in Orange County. Now she's on a train that is scheduled to arrive in oxnard an hour from now.) She'll be spending a few days with us. For her, it'll be a relief from the snow and super-cold weather back in the Midwest.

It is 2 a.m. here.  :o :o :o  I'm sure everyone is wondering WTF am I doing on the computer? We are waiting for Carlos' kids to get here. They landed about 10:30 (their plane was late) and by the time they got their rental and drove here... We told them to call us when they got to a certain point. Carlos & I went to sleep. We both woke up and they still hadn't called but we called them. They were just getting to the point where we told them to call. (We jumped the gun.) They should be here in about 15 minutes or so.

I just don't understand why they don't take the flight we usually take. Yes, you have to get up early in the morning to catch it but you get here at a half way decent time (we land around 2 in the afternoon and by the time we get here around dinner time). I guess because we have taken this flight so many times-and I have scoured the airlines for something better, the one we take is the best-time-wise.

One of their ads in the UK featured a letter they claimed was written by a child asking when there'd be an IKEA store nearby; and advertising the fact that the Nottingham store would be opening soon (that's the store nearest to me and it opened in about 1997)

i just got a kick ass deal on a printer!!!

so check this out....

Still $79.99..? I'm sure I paid less for mine. (Granted - not a Kodak)

And yes, I read through it.

Well all I can say is congrats...  And that although I love the fact my printer is wireless, I hate it because it eats ink cartridges!  I buy the extended life (extra large, for extra large capacity) and they print MAYBE 20 pages...  I don't even do photo's on my printer (cause I hate to see how much ink it would use)...  UGGGHHHH

yay there's some sun today.  I'm doing some laundry, looking up a little more SSI stuff to answer what I can for myself.  Take a close up picture of my gerbera daisy and my gazania when it opens.  Think I'll wait until fall to put my necter  plant in the ground.  that other bucket in my picture has some purple cone and butterfly weed seeds in it.  They aren't selling any butterfly plants around here right because we just had a zone 10 winter and the plants that attract butterflies are 5-9.  It's about time they started thinking about cross breeding the butterfly plants for better cold hardiness.

Tomorrow I see my advisor to see if she can give me advise or if I don't need to be seeing her.

Went to the beach today. Man, it was crowded. The group next to us had a cooler with speakers which were facing us and their music BLARING!!! We finally told them to turn it down. I did like the music they were playing but just not THAT LOUD.

We are now taking showers (figured it will be a while before it is my turn) and then we are heading to my SIL's for dinner.

Ummm, I have to tell you.  The Hardiness Zone Ratings (in both USDA, and Morton Arboretum) in the United States, the larger the number the warmer the climate is (a 9 has average minimal temperatures of 20-30 degrees, and a 10 rating has a 30-40 degrees for minimal temps).  So if you just had a Zone 10 winter, then you had an above average (warmer) winter than normal.  Not sure which "butterfly plant" you are wanting, but you need one for warmer conditions rather than cooler.  Obviously as you keep mentioning nothing survives, the micro-climate of your garden tends to be warmer.  I know Latin names such as Buddleia davidii (Butterfly Bush), Asclepias tuberosa (Butterfly weed/Butterfly milkweed), or Guara lindheimeri (Whirling Butterflies) are all called commonly "butterfly plant" by many people, this can lead to many problems when you try and purchase them.  I would definitely look for plants with hardiness of 10 or so.

Also try getting 4 or 5 (if your garden is no bigger than what it looks in the picture)bags of composted manure, or compost and mix that into your soil.  Your soil looks extremely sandy, so it has very little water retention.  Compost will actually help "absorb" water, and hold it so plants can use it as they need it.  Some mulch on top of the soil will also help keep water in, and block the black soil from heating up from the suns rays.

Yes I'm an I think I know what I'm talking about, but may be saying it backwards or some other crazy way.  Never heard of Guara lindheimeri .  The soil is clay and gets all hard and dry so it's going to need something.

The best thing about compost is it helps clay soils as well.  I knew you spent plenty of time at the garden centers, and looking up plants, but after working at garden centers and trying to help customers I just had to point out some common mistakes.  People using "common names" for a specific plant, was always a huge problem, different people call things differently or don't get the entire name.  Another was the hardiness zones.  I just had to correct it. Sorry. I love plants (it is why I majored in them at college) and I love growing them. If you need some help, I will be happy to try.

Guara is a Texas wildflower, and it blooms all summer long in the heat and it is a perennial in zones 7-10 (we have it here, but it is only an annual, I am a 4).  It loves the heat...

whatever you do, don't be sorry 2kidsami

I'm a huge plant lover and when I went to jr college my favorite thing I did was work their green house.  I tried to major in Environmental Horticulture, but the classes got over my head.  I'd rather work in a green house then be a landscape worker or something anyway.  Common names have given me trouble trying to find the actual types of plants butterflies would more commonly eat from and even harder to find the correct host plants when I get them.  That crimson butterflies" guara looks exactly like something I'd like in my garden.  I'm kind of going red/pink purple/blue.

I loved working in the greenhouses as well, I specialized in potting up containers.  I loved the design process, and thinking all the plants through and the design element of it.  I hated the spring when we would transplant the 1,000's of plugs into larger flats....  it was sooo monotonous I wanted to tear my hair out.  But in April when I could pot up containers, it was all worth it.

The Guara is pretty, I have used it in my containers here (again it is only a annual in my temps, and I never bring things into overwinter), great foilage, great blooms.  It does attract butterflies.  If you have Monarch butterflies there, make sure you allow some milkweed (NOT butterfly milkweed) to grow, and plant some parsley by seed (the caterpillars love it)!

parsley, that's something I've grown a little before and ate as well.  They say it will host Anise swallowtails which type of parsley? they say carrots and fennel to.  I've never seen an Anise swallowtail in the backyard and my dad has grown carrots before.  We get Monarchs and everyone says butterfly weed tuberosa.  I had some carvassaca tropical milkweed and the little foldwing skippers that were eating my lantana decided to try it out.  My pan is to get the food before driving myself nuts trying to attract the butterflies with host plants.  I've also decided that I'm going to get a plant I enjoy butterfly or not.  I want Aristolochia californica that would be our CA native pipevine.  I'd need some shade for it though.  I'm just going to work on finding some plants for the area that is in  the width of the trellis.  there is a little bit of space beyond that and a little space before that gets some part sun except for in summer.  I'm putting a passion vine on the trellis in my picture. I liked watching the bumble bees come to the one I had before.

okay, tomorrow is another Drail meeting I'm suppose to practice sign. before then, but don't want to because I already know the words and hate playing school. Rain comes back on Thursday and I have a 10am dentist appointment.

I was starting to wonder where it was!

Steps to create an audio quiz:

1. Find inspiration
2. Make a list of songs fitting the theme
3. Find/locate/download songs fitting the theme
4. Convert songs to WAV format
5. Create clippings of each song (of approx. 10 seconds each)
6. Convert clippings to MP3 format
7. Remove all WAV format files and clippings, because they take up too much space
8. Upload MP3 clippings
9. Create track listing
10. Create HTML file
11. Upload track listing and HTML file
12. Create new topic in Quizzes section
13. Test run
14. Redo all of steps 9 to 13, 'cause I've made a mistake... :D (optional)
14. Invite people to come and play
15. Finished.

I'm currently working on step 3. Steps 3 to 8 are the most tedious ones, but they're necessary.

BTW: I'm kinda working on 6 quizzes at once, so yeah...extra tedious.

the only I can deduce is that your aide, case worker or whatever is curious about the research you're doing on your own online... I can understand why she'd have some concern because you can't always trust the information you get online... perhaps if you tell her you're trying your best to learn some of this stuff on your own or let her know it's like seeing a doctor you're seeking a second opinion perhaps she can refer you to some reputable websites and or books to help you out.

I'm frustrated and perhaps don't know how to explain my frustration.  She told me that she was going tell  SSI to send my mom a paper that she sign that I was giving mom the correct amount of money.  Now there is something like this because there's been examples from some of you here.  I thought a payee reports where all the money goes.  I want to know if we're thinking  two different things here and if not explain the process to me as if I were 2, but damit don't give me sheesh which I feel she has, but maybe it's just me.  I just want to see if something gets clarified.

The examples people gave were not necessarily them paying money to parents from SSI.  It sounds like this form is specific to SSI to me.

They are probably having your mom sign the paper saying you are giving her $500 to make sure you are telling the truth when you tell them that is your rent.  There are people out there who will lie about that stuff and they have to make sure everything is on the up and up.  Don't take it personal, they do it for everyone.

I know, but there examples of giving other money.  There's probably ways to do SSI that I dont know about and?or understand.

I asked to be my own payee and I thought that meant I would be reporting back to SSI.

I want to know if We're on the same page or if there are some things that just need to be  better explained to me.  It seems my advisor is ignoring me when I say I don't understand.  Now that I've told the person at the front desk to scedule an appointment with me,her, and another advisor, she wants me to tell her what I don't understand.  Well, I tried to

that's probably it, but like I said I thought I was going to become my own payee and do all my reporting myself. If something needs to be signed by my mom to say that I'm doing my budgeting honestly then that's fine.

In my scenario you would still do your own reporting, they are just checking that you are reporting it correctly.

yes, it would make since and that would be fine.  I'm not sure if my advisor can tell SSI when to do what though.

added- I don't know, I know I get upset sometimes over the craziest things for crazy reasons and I also know that sometimes I cant hear her or she cant hear me.  However, I have really seemed to got upset with this and don't think the appointment I'm making is going to hurt anything.

Ann, why don't you write it all out, and have them write their responses?  As it may not be efficient, you don't have to worry about being heard or not hearing then.  It is possible to carry on a conversation in writing only, I see teenage girls pass notes back and forth all the time, we communicate on this message board, and millions of people text all the time.  Try it and maybe your frustrations will go away.

I am getting my haircut in about an hour's time.  I have been trying to grow out my fringe and get a layered bob type style.  I have had to try quite hard to let it grow, not get annoyed with it and hack it short again.

Hopefully it will look beautiful and I will be able to keep it looking good at home!

Good luck. It's been a month and I've already screed up my hair
I have always hated that my hair requires so much work to maintain.
If I were less vain I'd just shave it all off.

Maybe it's time to look into wigs.

I've often thought about shaving my head and seeing what grows back (of course I'd have to wear a wig because I would look really idiotic bald.)...I have no idea what my natural color is since I've been dying it for so long.

EVERY TIME I get my hair done, I ALWAYS tell her to cut it all off (after she colored it). I often say that I should go with the Sinead O'Connor look.

I often thought of that, too. I have been coloring mine since I was 19 because I had gray hair since I was 15.  :o :o :o :o I'm sure if I stopped coloring it, I would be completely white-NOT gray but WHITE!!!

In my case it would probably be best to forget an appointment and just e-mail.  Like I said, I don't know what gets me upset like this, but now that I type on this foruma have a better idea of how much of me is disabled or something.  E-mail back my adviser so she knows everything is okay and not go out to all these Drail events, they're not sceduled meetings.

I haven't done anything with my hair in a while.  I kid about getting a mohawk, but I found one that has a pixy cut on top.

ANN, do you really think not following through with this goal of yours is beneficial?  I think you need to do this, to prove to yourself it can be done and you can do it.  SO you are not going to go about it the "traditional" way, get it done!  Get your questions answered, no matter how many meetings it takes, do it face to face. Your immediate questions will be resolved. Emails have a tendency of not putting your emotions through clearly, or can be misread!

You need to prove you can do this!

I have not canceled the appointment, but I have responded to an e-mail my adviser sent wanting to know whats going on.  She wanted me to explain what I dont understand.  I started out saying what seemed to get me pissed was the fact that I was trying to tell her something was bothering me and I was handed a this self esteem paper.  the rest was  about the $500 and if we were thinking the same thing.  The e-mail ended with me saying I guess I don't like your advise.  There,I responded to that.

Now I'd love for there to still be some meeting of some sort Ruben, the other advisor the lady at the front desk said she was going to make this appointment with,  is their SSI specialist.  He use to be my adviser before Lisa showed up.

My husband has had grays for a long time, even as a teen.  He'll be white in a few years, it's a family trait.

If I had hair like Paula Deen's I'd stop coloring it.

I am lucky to have inherited my dad's hair colour.  He is 70 and has only just started to go grey!  Just hope I don't go bald like him though  ;D  My mum started going grey in her 30s.

Loving my new cut.  Just hope it looks this nice tomorrow when I try and style it myself!  Still it will justify asking for hair straighteners for Christmas - I haven't used them yet.

I had a really great day today.  We were going to get rid of 3 people for various reasons, mostly because they are people who don't want to work and think they are above the job.

Anyway, my boss was going to call it a lay off so they can get unemployment.  One of them called in so they moved it to next week.  One of them (the biggest pain) walked out at lunch with her arms full of stuff you normally leave at your desk.  She said she was just going to the gas station with a couple of other people.  She didn't come back with them.  Yup, she quit thinking she got one over on us.  Even if she hasn't quit and tries to come Monday, she will be written up for not working her hours yet again and insubordination because they were all told they had to stay and work their hours today because of the workload.  It would be #3 and a termination anyway.  Now she can't get unemployment.  Of course she didn't know this, but if she had stuck it out one more day she would have been eligible.

Yeah, I laughed all the way home.

Mine, too.  This week was especially long.  We did let someone go yesterday, she was unstable so it was a scary moment.  I spent all week knowing it was coming and steeling myself for the fit she would throw.  Surprisingly she just left, I think to calm down.  It was super hard.

The main reason for taking Monday was it is my big 4-0 and my sister and I are going to go buy lottery tickets and just hang out.

I wish I could loan it to you, bit we have got to get a loan for more than that for the taxes we have to pay... I am hating the person who was our farm landlord who decided she would just yank the 2,000 acres from us, and leave us high and dry with "income" (which we had to use to pay the farm loan) with no expenses for future farming for my husband.  He is sooo depressed right now, he actually used the phrase worth more dead than alive... I smacked him for saying it...

Oh man, I just found this in my inbox (from Yahoo!Answers) and had to laugh:

Hey, FaultyDog, look what you got!

Congratulations, you've got a best answer and 10 extra points!
Your answer to the following question really hit the spot and has been chosen as the best answer:

i'm looking for the female artist the had her song played a few times in k 104 i believe the song was calypso

Go ahead, do your victory dance. Celebrate a little. Brag a little. Then come back and answer a few more questions!

Yes, I answered the question...OVER THREE YEARS AGO! ;D And it wasn't even an answer, more like a suggestion. ;D

I don't have money I could be giving to anyone or I would.

See if that appointment of mine get sceduled and if not, I'll scedule one with just Ruben because I think I need to talk with someone.  I don't know how much of this is her not hearing me in the first place or her not paying attention at all ( she is born deaf with a hearing aid bilingual sign and speech).  It seems though that she wants to dictate to me and not listen to anything I say.  It's just not working and she's just confusing me more. I'd like to see if Ruben maybe has any ideas for managing my money.  I'm going to have to work it out with my parents.

Now might a good time to talk to my family doctor about getting some ADD testing.  I know I fall asleep and stuff, but I get mad too and here's an example.

What's wrong with being a spinster?  Being a spinster became derogatory because a woman who didn't marry was looked down on, I think we have all gotten over that.

Definition of SPINSTER
1
: a woman whose occupation is to spin
2
: an unmarried woman of gentle family b : an unmarried woman and especially one past the common age for marrying
3
: a woman who seems unlikely to marry
4
: The term spinster originally identified girls and women who spun wool. In medieval times, this was one of the few livelihoods available to a woman in order to live independently of a male wage.

Sorry Danoot but when I hear the word spinster I automatically think of a 50 / 60 yr old woman who never married. To put that label on a 21 yr old woman seems harsh like "quick! marry her off before she gets too old!"

There is also mushroom ketchup.  However shops only seem to sell tomato ketchup, but many people specify which sort they are having.  weird, huh?

We had a little get-together with the family, but it wasn't a sad affair (thank goodness).

Oh, and I also posted a new quiz today. An audio one. ::)

Here's to remembering your mother Henk!  :)

It's nice to get together to remember family members.  And they don't have to be sad affairs at all.

I knew as soon as I wrote the word that people wouldn't know what it means.  It is quite a regional word in the UK.  I can remember going to Bath and see a bakery called Mr Cobb's and I was the only one who thought it was funny!

I always laugh when I'm watching something English on BBC America, and somebody mentions a bacon butty.  Gotta love the differences in language between the two of us.

I would say a butty is made with thick sliced bread rather than a roll

Yeah sorry Snoz (and karen), I've gotta find something that works, just kinda been feeling really tired lately.  I think I slept more this weekend then I have in a long time (without aid of a sleeping pill).

I'll get to working on something right now...

I let myself just daydream and look up butterflies in my book so I can cook later in the evening and have enough brain power to think straight and awake.  My mom and I each had a small piece of chicken and we each made garlic chicken.  My brother, John had a piece of mine and gave me the thumbs up.

Not too sure what we are doing today. Maybe going back to Gillagan's Island (for another 3 hour tour). Tomorrow we drive to San Juan to take my step-daughter & Granddaughter #1 to the airport.

Well I know today is my laundry day and if I do hear back from Drail thin that's good.  Really kind of an outburst more then I have questions for them.  Most is my parents not knowing what to do.  Stress from that and then the seemiing like nothing but dictatorship from my advisor.  I in control of my self with these outbursts and I don't see them as bad things.  What I dont like is only being able to do maybe one activity before switching to one other.  Otherwise my brains to tired and I'm cranky and cat think.  I was going to contact my family doctor and see about getting labeled for ADD.  Also get me some medicene for missing doh what's it called in my brain.

Ann with your medical history, I would think that by now (you are not a child) if the doctor saw ADD tendencies they would have considered and medicated it by now.  Just because you can not focus on one thing for extended period of time, without pain and tiredness, does not mean ADD; the brain has to build up dexterity and you have to force it to do things for longer periods of time.  ADD drugs are not a end-all and be-all of the ADD world. They take months to regulate, and often without constant communication, they are never regulated properly.  They make people stop eating (most cause severe stomach aches and diarrhea), they make people stop feeling (high's or lows), they often make people depressed and without spirit, they make people jittery, anxiety attacks, sleepless ness and completely alter behaviors.  Even when the medication is working, a child with ADD/ADHD might still struggle with forgetfulness, emotional problems, and social awkwardness, or an adult with disorganization, distractibility, and relationship difficulties. That’s why it’s so important to also make lifestyle changes that include regular exercise, a healthy diet, and sufficient sleep. Self diagnosis is not a good thing, this is left to the professional psychiatrists.

We were the last ones on the island. We thought the boat was coming at 4 but it wasn't scheduled until 5. My SIL called and asked them to come pick us up since there were no others left. They arrived only a half hour early. As we were all sitting on the dock waiting for the boat (for about a half hour or so in a REALLY STRONG wind), I felt like we were marooned on Gilligian's Island. lol Unfortunately, my FIL tripped on the dock and fell. He nicked his toe and it was bleeding. When we got him home, we soaked it and it looked fine. Over all, it was a great day, though. I just love going there.

I have been really surprised that my 90 year old FIL has been going with us to all of these places (including hiking through the Dry Forest yesterday  :o :o). I am really glad to see him coming and he seems to be more with it when we are out and about and doesn't get AS confused. He still can't hear anything. Hopefully, when they clean his ears out, he will be able to hear something.

they were to busy finding hyper kids and throwing them a bunch of riddlin so they can become robots and be perfect little angles for teachers.  That was then, there is new information now.  My brain may be missing do whatever it is to be able to build up dexterity no matter how much I force it.  thats where the medicene comes in.  The lifestyle changes help relieve any extra stress you may be having, but it doesn't help with the do whatever loss in the brain.  By self diagnosis are you suggesting I'm going to trust a psychiatrist 100% of the way and not give it a second thought?  I don't think I'll be getting over the counter riddlin  :)

Your concerned  thank you very much
