Subject: MAY I ask what you are doing and how you are doing it?

Written By: karen on 05/01/11 at 10:06 am

We're slipping!  It's already half way through the day and nobody has started the thread.

Busy morning gardening, cleaning my dad's car before I take it back to him, housework etc.  Lazed around most of the afternoon.  Trying to get motivated to log off and do something!

I've sprayed for bugs along the perimeter of the house and backyard and pulled weeds this morning.  That's pretty productive for me before 10 AM on a Sunday.

You know I've been doing garden stuff lately.  Came across the plant I want to get for my garden.  Salvia Pozo Blue is California's butterfly bush.  The other plant I want is a scarlet monkey flower.  It will look great with my gazanias color wise and will host buckeye butterflies.

More housework yesterday.  Took my dad's car back to him.  He is allowed to drive now (wasn't allowed to for medical reasons)

In the afternoon we went for a family bike ride to a nearby farm for drinks and cakes.  On the way back James got distracted looking at a roadsign, so he rode into the kerb!  He ripped a hole in his jeans, made a mess of his knee and also an elbow.  Luckily it wasn't too far for him to limp home.

this morning James wanted to go in the car to school - he was most disappointed when he remembered we didn't have that option any more

Don't know. After surgery, he will probably go to rehab and who knows how long that will be. We may even get home before he does.

Today was my Addy's 3rd grade field trip.  She was going to some caves, and doing some soil/weathering/erosion/fossil stuff.  I decided to go along, as I haven't been on one of her field trips yet.  Sounded really exciting and fun.  Weather all week said it was supposed to be nice!

Well - woke up to frost on the windshields, temperature when we got to the site was 45 degrees (F).  Not bad, has to warm up right - NOPE by lunch the temp was 41 and the wind was blowing.  I thought I was dressed well, sweatshirt, another shirt underneath, a windbreaker, jeans, and tennis shoes.  EEEK  I was/am frozen.  The cold sack lunch of egg salad did not help at all either.  BRRRRRRRRRR  I now have a sore throat, runny nose that is congested, sneezy and a giant head ache.  The kids got to make sand art, look at the soil profiles, climb up to a small cave, search for water creatures (Luckily Addy took her bogs), and experience weathering.  We did not get to go into the large cave however, due to the state closing all the caves because of fear of spreading white nose fungus to all of the bats...  Everyone was disappointed, but I guess you start off walking upright, then crouched over, later crawl, and then on belly scooting (for about 3 body lengths) - SOOOO we would have all been wet and muddy.  TOO cold for that!

Dad is going to have the surgery done at Johns Hopkins which is a bit of an ease on the mind because they are a good hospital-in fact, probably one of the best. He probably won't have it done until sometime in June-maybe later. He said that there wasn't a big rush-which is also good.

I appreciate the good thoughts & prayers being sent my dad's way.

Sorry to hear about your sinus problems Cat, Mine off and on bother me since Saturday and I've been taking some kind of allergy medicine which I can't remember what it is at the moment.  But I can only take it once a day so the effect of it wanes after awhile and I am just as miserable as before.

Hope you feel better soon.

I don't think they can have started the count as soon as the polls closed.  Years ago I went to the town hall to watch the count with my brother.  He was standing for the local council, but wasn't successful.  Anyway, that time they started counting as soon as the boxes were received and finished around midnight or so.

I like grape vines because they can grab on to things by themselves.  I was doing some stuff in my dirt lot this morning.

I don't know anything  about cooking.  I'm trying to find a way to get myself interested.  So far I like popping my own popcorn and the three things you need to make sweet and sour sauce taste like sweat and sour are pineapple, ketchup, and brown sugar.  The recipe had corn starch in it and Joel cant have corn.  I have a potty problem with dairy.  Not sure, but they say people with ADD cant digest cows milk.  Seems I have to avoid anything with cows milk or stuff with cows milk in it.  I was looking for something with peanut butter and chocolate, but as far as some stuff goes, I'm not sure if milk can be totally avoided.

The guy who does our dance music for Morris dancing had a bit of a party today.  He had family visiting from Paraguay and it was the birthday of one of them today.  So we were all invited down for tea and cakes and a bit of a dance.  The front yard was full of puddles after overnight rain so we danced on the pavement (sidewalk) across the road in front of a neighbours house.

I had a fantatic time!!! That was one of the best panels I've seen in a long time!!! David Boreanaz is a hoot...

those girls were whack let me tell you.

First of all I was in line with them for 4 hours and they talked nonstop about bones and Emily Deschanel's pregnancy....they kept asking me if I was a shipper (WTF!??! ) I found out a shipper is a fan who prefers specific relationships I'm like--- I love bones... but I have more things to do with my day than obsess about will they or won't they. I trust what needs to happen will happen when it needs to happen. I want to watch it unfold. I want to talk about tv and I want to enjoy other people who talk about tv too.... but there's a difference between being a fan vs being a fanatic...these were 30/40 yr old women talking about bones like teen girls gossip about high school goings on....they gave me a headache!

a * by someones name means that person can submit any score to erase all their extra scores           I think about the game room probably more then I need to

buy the way, you can submit a 0 to clear your scores, you don't have to beat them.

Went to a craft afternoon.  I hadn't made any progress on the thing I had been working on last time I went.  SO I took along a completely different piece of knitting!  I managed to nearly finish a baby cardigan.  Now I need to find someone who is having a baby boy!

The problem with that list is most of those people don't post here anymore or if the do post here they probably don't post in this type of thread.
Maybe you'd do better sending them pm's.

yeah, I didn't think I knew some of these people, however these are games with at least 100 scores in them and probably have extras from a lot of us too.  I'll be doing these lists for all the games in the game room that are over 100 but will do it in my arcade thread.  I just wanted to say something here and let people know that they don't have to beat their high scores to clear the extras if they didn't know that..

Went up north today to help my youngest step-daughter move. She had to go to work so for most of the day it was her husband, his mother, her mother & step-father & the two of us. His mother's husband basically watched Granddaughter #4 most of the day. (He can't climb up & down stairs because he is wheelchair bond.) I felt back for their cat who was just freaking out. They wanted to someone to stay with the cat so you can guess who got to do that.  ;D ;D ;D  Actually, I would much rather be sitting there, trying to calm the cat down then climb up & down those stairs.  ;D ;D ;D  I was practicing my "cat whisperer" skills.  :D ;D ;D  It didn't quite work. Even after they gave the cat some "doggy downers" the cat was still upset. We got the trunk pretty much full when we left. (It is an 2 and a half drive ONE WAY). Tomorrow, THEY are going to unload the truck. We are not. Carlos has a doc appointment tomorrow & they are coming to clean the furnace so we can't go. Don't you hate when that happens?  ;)

I woke up to cat vomit and dead ants on my countertop (I guess I worded that wrong - cat vomit was on floor behind their feed plate (was NOT on the counter...  8-P  although dead ants were.  8-P 8-P 8-P )  So I had to clean them off, they creeped me out so much and the bleach spray really did a number on my sinuses that I had to take a break.  I will go back and bleach the counter again and then try to wash the counter of the bleach smell.  Cat vomit is always fun in the morning.  Especially if you step in it half-asleep. (Which thankfully I did not step in it. (this time.)

I'm planning on giving this place a good workover (before it gets too hot - yesterday it was 83 degrees F (28 degrees celcius).  MUCH too hot for this time of year.  Very humid too.  I'd like to open the windows to get some fresh air (if I could find some that is.)

I've got a baby shower to go to on Sunday.  The couple is unmarried (not that big of a deal.)  The impending father is the step-son of my cousin.  The stepson lived with his mother and I've only met him once (when he was 8.)  (Now my cousin is throwing a shower for her impending step-baby mama (whom I've never met, and didn't even know her name to tell the truth.) My cousin's name was not even on the invitation, even though she is hosting the event.  Had she not told me it was coming, I would have been REALLY confused as to who it was.  Of course, I wish the couple well and everything, it just feels weird not actually knowing the parents-to-be.

Well, it wasn't as bad as it could have been.  It was on linoleum floor, kind-of a neat little pile,  Just grabbed a plastic grocery sack (I seem to have an overabundance of them right now.) and scoop it all up without actually having to touch it.  Now if it were on carpet, that would be another story.

My life is so darned fascinating that I have to talk about cat vomit.  I should get a twitter account just for such occasions.  ::)

Yeah, I'm gonna mop later.  I have to spray the recliner chair with Febreze, hopefully that will take care of the funky smell coming out of it.  If not, I will probably throw it out in the garbage.  I bought the recliner a few years ago at a yard sale for $20 so I guess I got my money's worth.  I just know I won't get that lucky in finding another for that price.  I want to try to clean it first, although it may be a losing battle.

I got a plant yesterday and put it in the ground today.  Our fence has been down and this was the first day I met the neighbors dog. It's one of those type of dogs that can smash your ground cover flowers as it's walking around looking for things to smell.

Carlos told me this story when we was a graduate student at Rutgers and was living in student housing (with his first wife). The kids would blast their music all hours of the night. So, one morning at 7:30, he positioned his speakers out the window and played the 1812 Overture at the highest volume. That solved the problem.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

^ Oh no!!!!

I uploaded some video from paley events and the Janet concert.... one of my paley vids (BONES) has 300 hits already!

Today is Extravaganza at UCSB- it's an all day concert that put on kinda like Woodstock  it's free to students... the headliner is Cee Lo Green.

I watched one of your Cee Lo vids.  I was only familiar with the song "Forget you" because Glee/Gwyneth Paltrow did it.  lol  Tis a wee bit different in concert.  ;D

It is.... I love his "Forget" you song... it's better unedited  ;)

I guess the audio on the recording is crap. The band was really loud (overpowering really) and I was right in front of the speakers... my ears are still ringing... next year I remember to take ear plugs!  ;D

I would have figured you might have heard the song Crazy it's credited to Gnarls Barkley but Cee Lo sang on it too!

Oh!  Yeah I've heard of Crazy also.  I really like Gnarls Barkley.  I'm not really a big rap fan (obviously), so I tend to probably miss alot of good music.

"Going on" is a really good song too, although it only made it to 88 in the US charts in 2008.

just got back from an evening of dancing outside a couple of pubs.

It was a strange evening.  Two morris dancing sides arrange to meet to dance out together.  We take it in turns dancing but don't actually interact with one another inbetween dances.

Working on a short term contract presently. Just started this week and I'm tired because I'm not used to sitting looking at a computer for 9 hrs a day. I haven't worked since February 4th.  Got to get back into the swing ... and hope something more permanent comes up in the meantime... :-\\

At least there'll be some money coming in for a while.  :)

Had to get up far too early this morning.  Elizabeth was going on a school field trip and had to be at school with bags/sleeping bag etc before 8.00.  She will be home Saturday evening.

Had a headache on and off all day at work - no one had any painkillers.  :(  Feeling a bit better now I'm home.  Chocolate to eat and water to drink (with a couple of ibuprofen)

Hey everyone...I know I just took a long leave of absence...and that was because my laptop (which is only a year and a half old) suddenly contracted a virus and stopped working. I clicked on what I thought was an innocent link...but then it went down and just would not restart. We just could not get it to boot up, and we tried to get help from technical support...but that didn't work either. So we took it to a repair shop to have it fixed...and the repair took a few days. Now all is well with it (except a few programs need full restoration). So now I am back.

EE GADS he's worse than a girl - Finish Line, Hollister, American Eagle, Pacific Sun, Hot Topic, Aeropostle, Zoomees, back to Pacific Sun, then to zoomies, on to Dillards, then to Younkers, again to Hollister, and around and back to Hot Topic with a stop by American Eagle at the end)  :P  Holy Crap.

I am glad I got to see my friend, but I have a feeling she wanted to talk more, and we just never really got to do that!

We were watching ABC Family and watched 3 HP movies last night.  My 7 year old informed me that HP was supposed to be a slitherin (sp?), but that the magic hat messed up; that's why he speaks snake and is "crafty";  not like a Griffendor at all  :-\\  o k I said :P

your daughter is so close yet so far.... Harry was always supposed to be in Gryffindor. (THE SORTING HAT DOES NOT SCREW UP!  ;) ) The reason he speaks parselmouth is he, essentially, was afflicted with some of Voldermort's Slytherin traits, when he first tried to kill Harry....

your daughter may have picked up on the sorting hat's reading of Harry. Harry was terrified he'd be put in Slytherin and as a result the sorting hat was just picking up on Harry's insecurities but it ultimately sorted him into the house he was always destined to be a part of.

bTW watching the movies on TV with commercials is the worst way to watch it... it's been edited to hell.  ;)

Ooh, great idea. We just "listened" to it (audiobooks) and after we were done, I told Carlos that I do want to listen to it again-but maybe not for a bit. But since it wasn't too long ago, (less than 6 month), it is still fairly fresh in my mind. So, I would LOVE to join in on the conversation.

BTW, in case nobody realizes it: I'm just wild about Harry.

If you do, there are two readers: Jim Dale & Stephen Fry. My recommendation is Stephen Fry. Great reader and when he is doing Hagrid, he sounds just like Robbie Coltrain.

There is NetFlix.

Cat
The post man will not deliver any package to our mailbox.  Due to weather and extremes ruining product and such, and he does not actually get out of the car to see if we are home.  He just puts in the green postage slip that says we have a package at the post office.  As I do not drive for any reason into that town (not much of a town of 500 people, no gas station, no grocery, no nothing but bar and post office) I do not want to spend the extra gas to go get crap from there.  (post office also now shuts down the window at 3:45 and I do not get out of school till 3:50; now there is rumors of no Saturday service, not sure how one get's mail if that happens).  And we tried the downloads, and there is nothing that interests us, so we stopped that.

we've already had that battle...she doesn't think they'll deliver to her mail box tho now that winter's gone I say give it the ole college try....

They/He will not do it.  And since it is the Rural Letter Carriers union, it is up to the individuals to decide what can or can't happen.  As rural patrons they can force us to go to the post office to pick up our mail, if they deem it is inconvenient/inhospitable for them.  So I have been informed  :-\\  Yep, I questioned his authority, when during our spring break (not a national holiday) I watched him deliver the mail, I went out - and there was a slip in it.  It was a manilla envelope of my daughters pictures. When I asked why the green slip was marked "we were not at home" when we clearly were I was given according to section such and such by law 4,022  :P

did you question him or someone who worked with him? I would contact the post master general (or whatever the equivalent title is for that office...) just sayin'

you were using the "free" service offered thru wii.... I know 7.99 may seem excessive but I think if you looked into the unlimited on line viewing plan they offer - for 7.99 you'd actually be impressed with the amount of stuff they offer for viewing online.... okay HP isn't there yet but there's a lot of really good stuff available now. Really good stuff!

I have been told numerous times, that since the rural carriers use their own vehicles (and they are for lack of correctness "sub-contracted" by the USPS,  they can decide what, and when (weather issues, within reason) they will deliver  and some are better than others.  Again town of 500, I dont want to make too many waves, as I don't want to pick up the fricken mail!  not a huge population we are dealing with, and most are related in some form or another...

That really sucks. It sounds like your letter carrier doesn't want to do his job. I used to have that when I lived in Texas. I had one of those boxes that was on the corner (along with everyone one else in the neighborhood). Whenever I had a package, there was a slip and I would have to go to the P.O. that was I don't know how many miles away-through city traffic. Royal pain in the @$$. I feel for ya.

Yes it does!  Because the "rural letter carriers" are not the US Postal Service, they basically get to call the shots.  They use their own vehicles, their union provides their insurance (not the government), and they do not have to deliver anytime they deem unsafe, unfit, or unmanageable (and they decide that).  I have to go pick up catelogs, some of the larger bridal magazines (I used to get for floral design), and any "package" larger than an envelope.  I wish they would stop delivering all the junk mail; think of how this weighs down his vehicle and gives him the poor gas mileage  :P  Disadvantage of rural living! (I really think rural post carriers, are just pissed off wannabe post men!)

LOL - Again Q, I live in the country.  To download some things takes forever.  I cannot get DSL or true Hi Speed Internet.  Just like I cannot buy real cable.    My internet comes from a satellite receiver on my house that is aimed at a tower in a town about 13 miles away.  I do not watch many of the youtube video's people post on here, cause it takes to long to load (5-15 minutes) and watch them.  And if the weather is icky out, forget it!  There are some things that one takes for granted until one actually lives it.

And we may be going back to land line again, so as to save the $75 for what we do have.  It sucks, but it is what it is. Rural living does not give you the freedom of choice, carriers just do not flock to serve the rural customer,  so you have 1 choice and they can charge you whatever they want for it.

Honestly, we do not have a ton of time to devote to t.v. anyway.  That is why we are thinking of just putting up an antenna again.  Where we can watch the major television stations and be good. I am not a purist, I live with commercials.  The girls were fine watch Harry Potter on ABC Family, and if that is what we know then we are fine with that.  We have only had HBO for maybe a year in the past 6 years and we never watched it, except Dexter.  The commercials give me time to go do this or that.

I hear ya. We live one step away from being very rural. (Our town has a population of under 3000). There was a local internet provider that we used to use-but dial-up only. They were finally getting some high speed internet but only in certain areas. Almost every year I would send them an email asking them if they were going to get high speed in our area and every year I would get the same answer, "We are not planning to at this time." Finally Comcast came into the area and we went with them. Not the best company but we now have high speed internet and can actually watch YouTube videos. Have you looked into wireless? There may be a company or two that has service in your area. When we bought the house in PR, I didn't want to be without internet and since we were only going to be there for a few months out of the year, it didn't make sense to get service from a local provider. We found Sprint MiFi works ok both here and there. You just have to research if they provide it to your area. But the problem with the MiFi is that it is limited. We can only use so much downloads per month and then they start charging us more. I don't know how other programs work.

We looked at it through ATT - because that is who our cellphones where through, thought it would be especially helpful while camping, but that was going to add another 60 ontop of what we already pay for cell phone  :P (and yes you are limited)

Just technology is expensive, Love have the capabilities, but hate all the excess charges associated with it!  I miss the days of paying cable, electric and water only. 8)

HOw many channels would you get with the antenna?  In CT we got plenty for our needs.  The same here in the UK - everyone is on about getting satellite or cable but the 40 or so terrestial channels we get are more than enough!

I think I've suggested this before but we sometimes rent DVDs from the local library.  Or what about Redbox at the supermarket.  Just for special occasions.

We did too....I supposedly live in "Tornado Alley" and it seems like a majority of the major storms just pass over us???

AFA what I am doing....what am I ALWAYS doing?  Laundry :P

On the cable/internet discussion...we have Mediacom and I HATE it.  Of course, our "rocket scientist" mayor just signed ANOTHER 10 year deal with them to be the EXCLUSIVE provider of cable to all residents within city limits so I'm stuck with them unless I move.  We've looked into DSL, but people we know that have even the "enhanced" version get MAX DL speeds of 1.5 mbps during "peak" times (and only between 3-4 at other times).  People with the "standard" version are running under 1 during peak and around 1.5 during "peak".  Hubby needs the additional speed we get from MC when he works from home, especially if the kids are online with the PS3 & XBOX.  Thanks to the antics of our mayor, AT&T has now supposedly scrapped plans to upgrade the infrastructure within the next year or so since there's no chance of rolling out UVERSE within the next 10 years >:(

Thanks Howard... still need to restore a few things on it, but I am procrastinating on that for the moment.

Anyways...I met with my job coach again this morning, this time at the local hospital, to see if they had any job positions open that I would qualify for. Problem is, most of them are medical-related, and that's not my area of knowhow at all. We explained to a person in H.R. that I was looking for an entry-level position, mainly for office-related work, but the person said that it wasn't in high demand right now, and that I could always check on the hospital's web site anytime for updates.

Our Grandfather in law got a digital antenna hooked up just last week, he now has well over 30 channels.  (ABC,CBS,NBC,Wb,PBS, and such with all their weather, movie, and sports affiliates).  Yep I will not have Discovery, Animal Planet, TLC or History... but we could be saving that money!

Yes our library has dvd's as well, and I wish we had a redbox at the gas station in a nearby town; but no such luck.  Is red box a dollar a day or a dollar for movies?

Went over to check on our booth today and two items sold this week-WOO HOO!!!! But, we noticed our next door neighbor had a Scooby Doo lunch box just like ours but his was in better condition and he was asking a little less.  >:( >:( >:(  So, we had to drop our price. (He also has a cruet set like we have that he is asking a lot less than we were planning on so we are waiting for him to sell his before we put ours out.) We also noticed that one of our antique hand fans was broken.  :\'( :\'( :\'( We had to drop that price on that, too. (Lost $50.) We then went over to the farm to pick up our weekly produce.

I thinned out all my gazanias ( out of a flat and into cups for now)  3 or 4 days ago and now it's been overcast the past couple of days.  My dad is gone working.

Yesterday,my mom has told me how my clothes don't fit and that I need to vounteer  or something.  I know I do, it just doesn't get very far weither It's just me and my brain damage, my brain doesn't get along with the my moms brain, and/or both.  How long have I been saying stuff like this on this thread anyway?  I know I have something to do with this, but I don't feel guilty nor motivated to do much about this right now.  I know my clothes don't fit me right,  Pants are too long for me so I buy shorter stuff that is made for taller people so it doesn't fit me right.

Past couple of months issue has been to get a phone set up.    I have a TTY device, but my mom got rid of the house lline.  Mom says they're too expencive and I cant have one.  She wants me to plug my cellphone in ( when I get the right plug or a phone that works)  and have it power the TTY.  Um? is that possible?  The instructions say that people can plug a cell pone in and use it if they don't want to use TTY.  I'm going to need TTY to do the Voice Carry Over I would think( don't think I can talk on the cell phone and get the text messaging on the TTY).

I think I need to tell my mom that I think she's crazy on the phone issue.  I don't think she remembers how hard it is to find anything of any kind to even sort of fit me.  We can discuss that.

Sometime ago I spotted that there would be a vacancy coming up at elizabeth's school (school newsletter item about someone retiring).  The job is so similar to the jobs I did before I went to the USA so I sent my CV (resume) in to the school office and to the headmistress's PA.  I heard nothing - not even a rejection.  Anyhow I just checked the school website and they have now advertised the job.  I am going to apply, but sort of feel that they've already rejected me.  :-\\

I don't know. we get interest all the time at my place but we can't really do anything until the job is officially announced and an application is filled out. It may be different there but just in case it isn't fill out the app and include your resume again. It's worth a try...

In the UK this April/May is full of bank holidays (public holidays).  My work contract says that I get paid holidays except I haven't been paid for any this month.  I have just found out that this is because I had to fill in a form to book these days off work.  I knew I had to book my holiday dates in advance but no one mentioned having to book these dates as well.  I've just clarified this with the regional office.  Fingers crossed they can be back-dated, with the extra holiday for the royal wedding it's nearly a week's wages!

Wow...that's harsh if correct. You normally just get public hols off ...just like the rest the workers. Basically, if you are due to work on the day and it it falls on a ph .... (unless you're casual or a contractor) ... you get paid as if at work.

Tonight I will be going to a Dodgers game. That's right...it'll be my first trip to Dodger Stadium in six years, and my second time in the last fifteen years. As I mentioned in the MLB 2011 thread in Sports Zone, my uncle got some tickets to tonight's game (probably from his work), and so we'll be going out there tonight and cheering on our team! Also...this will be my first time seeing them play against the Florida Marlins.

One guy (my cat sitter) didn't show nor did he call to say that he wasn't coming which kind of p!ssed me off because I need to talk to him about watching the cats (even though he already said he was fine with it) and he still has my flash drive which I need NOW!!! Holy crap.

This is a hot-button issue of mine.  Look, people, driving is fun.  Driving fast is more fun.  But that's why mankind invented the racetrack.  And why racetracks invented high performance driver education, track days, and bracket racing.

I believe there are a few times and places where it's OK to speed on public roads.  (Let's be honest: who amongst us has never been more than one mile per hour over the speed limit on a controlled-access highway, if for no reason other than to keep up with the flow of traffic?)

But there are never times nor places where it's OK to race on public roads.

This isn't rocket science.  If you want to kill yourself, your friends, and random civilians, go street racing.  But if you want to impress fellow gearheads with your driving or your car, take it to the track.  No appointment necessary.  Just show up and talk to people.  Your local track wants your patronage, and you might even learn things that save lives, not end them.

I'm all for driving fast on the freeway but within reason but drag racing on city streets (or any streets used by the general public) is totally uncalled for.

I'm not sure  how the son is taking it all the co-worker didn't have time to talk but I know the co-worker was really upset. He's not the kind of guy to cry but he was crying when he called me. He came real close to losing his son last night (well the night before now) and even tho the son wasn't driving I think the dad is disappointed that he was involved in the incident. and the guy is a bleeding heart so he feels horrible about the little girl.

No I meant the "other" car that they (co-worker's son and driver of the car) were racing.  I take it there should have been a 3rd card, maybe not involved in the accident, but at the least a witness to the event.

Oh... I don't know about that other car... I think my co-worker said one was going to jail and one was being cited so I'm inclined to believe the other car stuck around and that driver got a ticket for racing.

We have a few repeat offenders on the street where I live (which is residential). There's no stop signs at the nearest intersection (which I think would be the perfect solution), so lots of folks still zip down it at speeds of faster than 25mph.

Actually, I'm thinking mine's one of the very first apartments being finished. The building as a whole is far from finished.

So on the good side no neighbors. On the downside lots of construction?

What city are you in?

No neighbors, but no peace and quiet either. I'm not sure what they're doing in the apartment next to mine, but they're using compressed air to do it. Probably finishing the ceilings... :-\\

What city are you in?

The sunny (and windy) city of Den Helder.

So much to do. I was in panic mode because I hadn't heard from our catsitter but he called this morning. We were still in bed and Carlos almost didn't answer the phone because it just had the town on the caller ID. I told him that it was probably the catsitter (calling from work) and sure enough it was. I told him about being in panic mode and trying to figure out a Plan B. He did apology and told me that he had the Weekend from Hell! (He was dealing with his mother-something I can relate to.) He will be over this evening to go over everything.

I still need to pack-shouldn't take too long. Do a little "computer work" (stuff that I forgot to do yesterday). We also have a chiropractor appointment today. Also have to drop off a letter to the vet (which is right across the street from the chiropractor.)

Carlos is going to call the paper & take a trip to the Post Office. He is going to ship some books & notified them.

I always get in frantic mode at this time because I'm always afraid that I am going to forget something.

I started making a spreadsheet for when we go anywhere so I make sure I don't forget anything.  Inevitably, I still do :(  Especially since I'm packing for 5 people (because heaven forbid anyone else pack for themselves ::)), I'd forget half of what we need to take.  We're leaving on Friday for Virginia for 10 days and I have the spreadsheet ready to go and have started packing already.  Since we're driving and staying in a condo, we can wash clothes and don't have to take as many, but I still want to make sure we have everything else.

I get to do that sometime this year...since there's a strong history of colo-rectal cancer in my family, my doctor wants me to start having them this year  :-\\

I go to Dodgers games all the time....it's the team my youngest is on in his Little League ;D

Good idea. I do have a list but it is in my head. I should start making a spreadsheet since we take these trips quite often.

My brother was the victim of 2 kids street racing back in 1990.  They had snuck out of their houses and decided that it would be a good idea to do it in the middle of the night down a residential street WITH THEIR LIGHTS OFF (so it would be harder for "witnesses" to identify the vehicles). My brother was making a left turn when they came around a curve in the road and one hit him in the front quarter panel...he spun around and the other car hit him in the rear quarter panel.  The kid that hit him first was killed and the 2nd kid, his passenger, my brother's roommate and his girlfriend were seriously injured.  Fortunately, his RM's gf's son was sleeping in a car seat on the driver's side and they were hit on the passenger's side or he probably would have been killed (and my brother only had some minor lacerations).  His car (an 88 Beretta GT) was almost torn in half by the impact....it was in an "L" shape and looked like it had been torn open by the jaws of life, but the FD didn't use them :o

Could you imagine....getting a knock on your door at 2 am....police standing there telling you your son was just seriously injured or killed in a car accident and you think he's in his room sleeping? If my son wasn't the one who was killed, he probably would've WISHED he was when I got through with him!!!

Turns out the other driver did flee. He was arrested for hit and run. Best I can figure the car that ran caused the accident and the red car, the one my coworkers son was in, crashed into the suv as a result. But yeah the red car and the one who ran were racing. Idiots. The dude who ran was 33.
The story just keeps getting more and more tragic!  What a complete and utter shame!  I feel for the innocent van!  Forever marred and marked by a couple stupid, inconsiderate, and irresponsible individuals trying to get an adrenaline rush  :\'(  Poor girl!

My dad was on a little league team in the early 60's, when he was a kid. I think his team was the Giants, though.

It's in my family, too.  The upside is it's only every five years.  The downside is those five years seem to go by awfully fast.
