Subject: Famous/classic/popular movies you've never seen

Written By: ChrisBodilyTM on 05/18/11 at 7:54 pm

I was bored, and I figured it would be a fun thread.

Just list any famous, classic, or popular movie that most people have seen, that you haven't yet. Preferably, titles you hope to someday see, rather than something you're avoiding like the plague. For example, I'm not gonna list Meet the Spartans or Vampires Suck.  ;D

I'll start:

Citizen Kane

Nope. Never seen it. Nothing. Rosebud!

The Godfather Saga

Getting to finally see this proper (i.e. not AMC) would be an offer I couldn't refuse. I'm just on the fence about whether I should see it now or wait until my surround sound receiver is upgraded to one that accepts Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, and I upgrade to a 120hz TV for playing 24p mode. Oh wait, I forgot Saturday's gonna be the end of the world, so I don't have that long.  ::)

Jerry Maguire

Show me the movie! Show me the movie! Maybe seeing this film would complete me, or maybe it wouldn't.

Any Quentin Tarantino movie besides Pulp Fiction

What do you call someone who's only seen Pulp Fiction of QT's work, in France? I was lucky enough to see Pulp Fiction on IFC before they sold out. I've only seen bits and pieces of Reservoir Dogs on IFC. But before you say "What?" I wanna tell you...

http://sharkoffs.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Jules-Pulp-Fiction-Say-what-one-more-time-I-DARE-YOU-I-DOUBLE-DARE-YOU.jpg

The Alien sequels

Luckily, I caught Alien on IFC right around when the Blu-ray box set was released., and before IFC sold out. You wanna know what IFC does, besides airing commercials during movies? Now, they CROP ALIEN!! WTF? Other movies are OAR, but not Alien?

I would definitely see Aliens if given the chance; I like James Cameron. Maybe AlienĀ³, and possibly Resurrection to round it out. I've never seen AvP, but I've seen Requiem.

Edit: Seen some Aliens on TNT.

Spartacus

I am not Spartacus. Yet.

2001: A Space Odyssey

I dunno. I tried giving it a shot, I think on AMC (when they were exactly like TCM) or TCM, but the opening with the apes and "Also Sprach Whatever" were too boring for my tastes, if I remember right. I might give it another shot eventually, who knows?

The Scream sequels

*Angry Screams fan calls me on the phone. I check the caller ID. I don't answer.*

Larence of Arabia

The truth is, I've never seen it.

Full Metal Jacket

Watch you language now, Sarge.  ;)

I've also never seen Eyes Wide Shut, but I won't bother.  :P

A Nightmare on Elm Street Parts 2-6 (to my recollection)

They never show them on TV, and only the original, FvJ, and the remake are available on Blu-ray.

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (to my recollection)

The first of four movies to star Kane Hodder as Jason -- the longest tenure to date!

Classic/early Robert De Niro

Yup. You read that right. No Mean Streets. No Taxi Driver. No Deer Hunter. No Raging Bull.   :\'( But with the new Blu-ray of Taxi Driver, I'd definitely seize the oppurtunity.

Gone with the Wind

Frankly my dear, I'm not sure if I give a damn.  :-\\

American Graffitti

I even have the DVD, but haven't gotten around to watching it.

That's all I can think of. Let's hear yours; don't be shy. If you build it, they will come. (Speaking of which, haven't seen Field of Dreams, either.  :-[)

I have too many to list that I've never watched, mostly due to not being into movies for the most part.

I haven't watch most of the Harry Potter films, just bits and pieces of them.

Haven't watched any Twilight films and plan to keep it that way.

Haven't seen Avatar either, heck... due to not watching TV I don't even know what movies are coming out(and that's fine by me).

Many...

St. Elmo's Fire

Pulp Fiction

None of the Lord of the Rings series.

I only saw the first Harry Potter.

Not interested in any of the Twilight movies.

Only saw the early Star Wars.

Annie Hall as well as most of Woody Allen's stuff.

There are many movies I've only seen parts of...
Deliverence
The Deer Hunter
Gone With the Wind
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
A Clockwork Orange

I could go on and on.

If you DO see it-you HAVE to see it at the movies. Watching it on DVD just isn't the same. (Or better yet, go see the stage show).

What CatwomanofV said.  You need to see it.  You need to not see the DVD.

Actually, that's not quite true.  You need to see the DVD after having read the script a couple of times.  But not before.  The movie isn't the point - the audience doing goofy stuff during the movie is the point.  Google around, download the script with audience participation lines, listen to the Audience Participation Album a couple of times, and then show up at a performance (movie or live cast), and hoot out whatever lines you think are funniest.  Bonus points for coming up with new ones or finding some that aren't from your local area.  (I knocked 'em dead with "WHAT'S A TRIFFID?" in the opening credits, and I got that 20 years ago from an old band's cover version of it, that somehow hadn't made it way to where I was when I last saw it.)

What makes RHPS awesome is that every time you see it, someone in the audience will know a funnier line than the ones you know.  And once every few years (or cities), you'll have a line that nobody else knows.

Think "MST3K" plus "really bad 70s B-movie", sort of a "Snakes on a Plane" for the 70s, and you've got the right idea.

Yes, of course the ship sinks.

http://cache.blippitt.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/homer-doh.jpg

The movie isn't about the ship sinking; it's about the love between Jack and Rose. It's about how a man can watch the movie (or listen to "My Heart Will Go On") with dry eyes. Yes, even men cry during Titanic.

I can cross American Graffiti off the list; a must-see classic. Next up on the horizon, Citizen Kane and Jerry Maguire, courtesy of Netflix.

Others I've never seen:

THX 1138

4:3 crop is on Vutopia On Demand. I will not watch the 4:3 crop. I will not watch the 4:3 crop. I will not...  :(

Another spoiler: In There's Something About Mary (another I haven't seen), that wasn't hair gel.  ;D

I can cross Jerry Maguire off the list. Unfortunately, my AFI challenge is gonna have to wait (seeing all of the 100 movies on AFI's list that I haven't already seen) until

a) I get a new (separate component) surround sound system/receiver that can do 1080p/60, 1080p/24, 7.1, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HS Master Audio, and PCM
b) more and more of said titles arrive on Blu-ray

Citizen Kane is in our Netflix queue (as are The Social Network, and Friday the 13th Part VII, which STILL haven't arrived yet... months later!), but it's gonna be released on Blu in September in honor of its 70th anniversary.

Since so many "important" or "essential" movies have passed me by, I have decided (when I can) to watch every movie on AFI's Top 100 list, as well as others deemed equally important, classic, or essential. On top of that (evidenced with Jerry Maguire), I want to also throw in modern classics.

So to give you an idea of what I haven't seen yet (I apologize for repeating titles):

You have to bear in mind that Donald Duck never wears trousers in the first place.

looks like the board has replaced our emoticons with one-word descriptions. i thought a mod had decided to edit my post as a way of opining about its quality level.

Look, suppose Howard had done his homework in response to this:

...and suggested an alternative hypothesis as to why Donald's fingers smell like fish, and had supported it with photographic evidence?

(Point of information: In zoological anatomy, a cloaca is the posterior opening that serves as the only such opening for the intestinal, reproductive, and urinary tracts of certain animal species. All amphibians, birds , reptiles, and monotremes possess this orifice, from which they excrete both urine and feces, unlike placental mammals, which possess two (or three) separate orifices for evacuation.)

I'm usually the first to hover over the "Smite" button when he posts a smiley for the sake of increasing his post count, but in this case, I think we got off easy.

And I think I chose my words poorly in that last sentence, but I'm not going to change them.

I've seen the Ten Commandments a hundred times, but last month my friend and I saw it on the big screen. Yul Brynner died before either of us was born in 1985 (I was born in May of 86 and my friend in September of 86) but we literally fangirled for about an hour afterwards about how Sexy he was as Pharaoh.  ;D I also liked John Derek who played Joshua.  :)

Quite a lot as I am not a movie buff. And I will never watch any film starring an actor or actress I don't like which is why I have never seen the Twilight series. I cannot stand Robert Pattinson. I also cannot abide Brad Pitt, Catherine-Zeta Jones, Nicole Kidman (although I respect her for establishing a young people's acting scholarship), Daniel Craig, Ryan Gosling and Ryan Reynolds.

I've finally watched the first Godfather, since I wanted to watch it two years ago.

That was another film that took me ages to see, and with a chance viewing on live television that happen on a spare morning, I finally caught it.

I watched it on DVD, since I don't think any network airs the movie a lot. There was a special airing of The Godfather on HBO where I live, but I didn't catch it.
