That's right! The year is almost finished!! Where has the time gone?

I just know that I anticipate being busy with holiday preparations and stuff of that nature. Hopefully it'll all go well...

2011 is almost over and boy what a year this was as far as the weather was concerned. I wonder what 2012 has in store for us.

I ripped my finger open getting a Nature Valley granola bar out of the box this morning.  I took the plaster off around lunchtime and the cut started bleeding again!

I was reading the local paper earlier this evening and I found out that someone who was on the union committee with me a few years ago had killed himself.  It was the result of the coroners inquest that was reported.  Apparently he thought he'd exposed himself and several colleagues to a high dose of radiation (though he hadn't) and so he suffocated himself in the lab.

SIL went to pick up FIL. We then went to a local Christmas bizarre. It was really weird because it was at the place that I used to volunteer. I bought a bunch of stuff and didn't even paid $20 for the whole lot. Then we came back and Carlos had made a fantastic meal. SIL is now taking FIL back. And I'm pretty tipsy from having a few glasses of wine.


Oh, and haven't heard from DC yet today.  :-\\

The concert was brilliant! 8) I wish you could have heard us sing... People told us they were really moved by our performance. No doubt the soprano, the organ player, the hoboist, the flutist, the pianist and our conductor had a little hand in that too. ;)

I think you can still find the concert online, but most of it is in Dutch, so... :-\\

More good news: the computer problem is fixed. :) Turned out I needed to reset an internet settings, but I needed a little help finding out which one.

Music is a language of its own. You don't need to understand the lyrics to appreciate the music. That is why Italian opera is popular. I'm sure not everyone who enjoys opera speaks Italian.

Just to clarify.... The pain doesn't last long. .  It's like maybe 10 mins.  There's the needle, which is more stresful than painful.  The hard part is the stuff they inject. You can feel it travel thru your lower extremities. There's a lot of pressure. Like blowing air into a straw while you cover the open end. But it was honestly worth it.  Im in pain again and hoping I can get them to do it again.

Working on that, but as it happens both my usual hosts are currently down. (One for maintenance, while the other appears to be down for good) :(

Yesterday afternoon I went across to a nearby town with my morris dancing group.  We danced out as part of their Christmas lights switch on event.  We were also in the parade with Santa on his sleigh (towed by a car).  They went a bit faster than we could dance/walk so we did end up scuttling along the street at one point to catch up!

This morning Elizabeth took part in a Santa Fun Run.  About 1,000 runners dressed as Santa (and the occasional Rudolf, fairy or elf) ran 6km around the town as a sponsored run.  Elizabeth and some of her classmates took part to raise funds for Rebuilding Sri Lanka, a charity her school are supporting.  Elizabeth raised about £60.

Went to our annual FABULOUS brunch that our friends/financial advisers throw. Usually I eat so much that I am uncomfortably full. Today, I was very good. Even though I ate a lot (plus having 2 memosas.  ;D ;D ;D ) I did not gorge myself like I normally do. But I am full.


When I got home, there was a message from my dad. I missed his call.  :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'(  But, he is out of ICU and is already walking down the hall. He is doing quite well considering.

Birthday extravaganza kicked off yesterday  ;D

I was gonna go to Paley and celeb stalk Debbie Reynolds and her auction but I didn't feel like driving that far for maybe a photo op / her and the famous people buying her Hollywood memorabilia.

Liewise on Monday I was thinking about standing on the line for the New Years day movie premiere.  I've never celeb stalked a movie premiere before.  I know some of the cool celebs will come over to the fans and sign autographs and pics but my friend who usually does that stuff is out of town and I don't wanna screw up, stand in the wrong spot and waste my entire day and not get anything. 

Today I went to barnes & noble. Jane lynch signed her book for me and two of my glee pics. Totally worth it. I told her I was getting disheartened cuz I'd been at three glee events and never get her autograph (a white lie cuz I got her on one puc but needed her on two others). One I got her to sign as "sue Sylvester" it won't be worth anything but it'll be fun to have.  ;D

I got my fave donuts and ate them....six of them (but they were minis  so it was really only like eating two or 3. I got two brownies but will save those til tomorrow

I got some BBQ at a place my friend says is good....gonna try it soon so I'll let you know.

I have a weeks work next week, that will get me my benefit hours(pension, insurance) for next year.  This would have been the 3rd year in a row without benefits if the business agent hadn't come through, bless him.  Things are looking up, if anyone wonders if the stimulus money has done any good tell them it sure as hell has, anytime they see a public project, roads, hospitals, schools, etc. it is stimulus and it is keeping a lot of people out of the red.  ;)

At home with a sick kid...  I went upstairs and woke the girls as normal. And the eldest came down, face pale, cheeks flushed, crying (with full on tears) how her body hurt all over, and her throat and head...  Called in to get sub, but she just had to sit and wait an hour for me to get all the sub plans ready.  I really hate getting a sub, I wish I could just say - study hall day, but the school does not allow that.  :P  Seems to be more work than just going to work.  Poor kid :-\\

And the eldest came down, face pale, cheeks flushed, crying (with full on tears) how her body hurt all over, and her throat and head...  Called in to get sub, but she just had to sit and wait an hour for me to get all the sub plans ready.  I really hate getting a sub, I wish I could just say - study hall day, but the school does not allow that.   :P  Seems to be more work than just going to work.  Poor kid :-\\

Not particularly. The special night is on December 5, although I think most people have celebrated Sinterklaas on Saturday last (the center of attention being little kids and all - and them going to kindergarten/school as usual).

FTR: we haven't celebrated Sinterklaas this year. Money issues, but it's also getting hard to think of gifts to give.


There's also some good news: my back is no longer hurting (well, as long as I don't start doing silly things!).

I haven't worn it for about 10 years.  I put on weight when I was expecting James and it got painfully tight so I took it off.  Then for years I couldn't get the ring over my knuckle.  I tried today and it fits perfectly!

One of the things I've been doing lately is looking at curtains, bedspreads, stuff to re- decorate my room with.  Anyway I was talking to my mom and showing her some pictures that I dont think she was even looking at.  I said I like black and I guess that's what set her off, she was trying to tell me to think of black as not a color and wtf???  so yeah I got mad because it seems like she wont let me have any thing black at all, but dark brown is fine with her.  Then finally I found out that she doesn't want anything straight black.  She goes and blames me for getting mad over nothing, but I do because I cant read her mind.  Had she have looked at my pictures in the first place, she wouldn't have had a problem. 

If you had a kid who wanted all black in their room and you didn't like it, would you tell them no they cant express themselves?

One of the things I've been doing lately is looking at curtains, bedspreads, stuff to re- decorate my room with.  Anyway I was talking to my mom and showing her some pictures that I dont think she was even looking at.  I said I like black and I guess that's what set her off, she was trying to tell me to think of black as not a color and wtf???  so yeah I got mad because it seems like she wont let me have any thing black at all, but dark brown is fine with her.  Then finally I found out that she doesn't want anything straight black.  She goes and blames me for getting mad over nothing, but I do because I cant read her mind.  Had she have looked at my pictures in the first place, she wouldn't have had a problem. 

If you had a kid who wanted all black in their room and you didn't like it, would you tell them no they cant express themselves?
My eldest daughter has a pink room (walls and ceiling) with black and white zebra print.  I think it would be alright to have lots of black as long as you had an accent color.  But remember, if you paint your walls black - the room is very dark (we used to have black walls in our room while hubby worked nights - very dark), I cannot imagine spending a lot of time in an all black room. When we turned on the light, the light did not seem to travel far, it was always dark.  We had red accents. 

What I guess I'm trying to ask with my question is if you'd let them do what they might want to do with their bedroom as long as it's not something rong or if It's right for the owner to dominate everyone's bedroom?  I don't have the pics in PB, but I think I'll go ahead and show you the colors I'm looking at.  I cant go real light and white because it hurts my eves.  I don't know why black is such a horrible color to my mom,whatever.

Since we are only getting your side of the scenario ann I'm going to play devils advocate here.

You said you showed your mom some pictures that you don't THINK she looked at. It's quite possible she looked at them and you missed it. (just yesterday I saw someone and was certain they didn't see me but they described where I was sitting proving my perception wrong)


Regarding decorating your room there are two schools of thought here:

It's very possible your mom could operate under a my house/my rules philosophy. Many parents do.

The second, and this is how it worked in my house, who's paying for the stuff to do the room? If I paid I could basically have color scheme I wanted. If my mom paid them I got a color scheme we both agreed on. In otherwords - I hate pink so my mom would never force me to live with pink decor but she hated mountain dew green so I couldn't get that either  ;D

If you're paying, and your mom doesn't do the my house my rules thing get what you want.

I don't know if you know this ann but sometimes, even when you live on your own, you can't just decorate your place anyway you want. Sometimes some landlords require you get permission before you paint a wall.

I don't know if you're planning on painting or not. If not and it's just a bedspread and some curtains it shouldn't be that big a deal however you make a lot of gloomy posts about killing yourself so perhaps immersing yourself in a black (negative) space is not necessarily a healthy choice.

sometimes it runs in the family, like if your parents wear glasses somewhere down the line you might need to wear glasses yourself.

My brother Joel wears glasses from mom genetics, dad wears readings glasses to read with now, and I wear glasses because the whatever it was that controls my eye muscles was in the path of the radiation for my tumor treatment.  My brother John doesn't have glasses.

Ann, black is typically the color associated with death and depression.

That doesn't mean that if one wears a black shirt they are depressed but when you describe wanting to decorate your room in black I think of goth / depressed teens who paint their rooms black so it feels like tge whole world is caving in on them.

I like cooking is a pizza I make using the flaky biscut dough, Hunts sause, and western family artichokes.  I think the acid tastes good with the biscuts, I do drain them some.  I also like using garlic powder instead of the artichokes sometimes.

The other thing I like doing is throwing some rice, pineapples, and ketchup together.  I shortened a sweet and sour recipie because I got lazy

So, yesterday (Friday) we got our Christmas tree but we haven't started decorating it yet. We want to do it this weekend but my family is busy with other stuff too. Lots of important things needing to get done in the next couple weeks!

that went good, my parents gave John some coupons and $50  and the place we ate at (Italian) used fresh  tomatoes.  I had  some minestrone soup and some mozzarella sticks.  Fresh tomatoes.very  good.  Then we played some canasta.  Then the best part, we hugged each other.

The kids decorated this Christmas tree yesterday afternoon. I put some Christmas music on the CD player and got a little closer to finishing the kitchen curtains (only been working on them about 6 months!)

Today I am dancing with my Morris dancing ladies at a local craft centre as part of their seasonal offering.  There will be brass bands and carol singers and other things going on all day.

Man,Dag these customers over at Ozone Park,you got some "real" pains in the asses, It's so busy over there that half of my shift consists of waiting in traffic in the parking lot and waiting till the 230pm kids from school go away. Every day between 230-3 kids over the past 26 years since that Pathmark opened, kids wander the parking lot, playing in the street with cars honking at them and just fooling around so over there it's hard to get a lot of work done.

So I guess you and I have something in common!


But I might need them later in life If I don't stop squinting.

I think it is the same thing that Andy used to have, her anal glands need to be cleaned out.  8-P  I have been giving her some mineral oil (as a laxative) but I think it something that the vet needs to take care of.


And this headache is making me very b!tchy today so everyone better be nice to me or else my claws are going to come out!

Called into the bank after work to transfer some money into an investment account.  Dai was told it would take about 15 minutes or so for me to go through the paperwork.  Instead the guy insisted we had to go through a financial review for me to check this was the right product (he'd done this rigmarole with Dai a couple of weeks ago and we have joint accounts!)  so I was half an hour meeting James from school (happened to spot the time on the guy watch otherwise god knows when it would've finished).  ANd we still didn't get to the paperwork because 'there are some other accounts I think you need to consider'.

Anyway Dai wrote to their customer services pointing out that we had better things to do with our time than hang around the bank.  And this is supposed to be the special treatment their 'premier' customers get!

Ash- if he were a regular judge they probably wouldve (and they have tamed it somewhat) but he appears occasionally so they don't really have a say. I think he's kind of known for it.

Oh and ash---- shoes....wear shoes.  Actually, you should probably wear a suit of armor or bubble wrap 24/7

my uncle e-mailed me and others that he wont be sending Christmas cards do to his wife's passing, so I sent him a hug.

This morning I managed to spill my tea on my desk and on this keyboard  before I knew what happened.  Everything is cleaned up  a fine though.  Ever seem to have your body on earth and your head on another planet?

I know a couple of people who have had that.  It's one of those things that is actually pretty common and easily taken care of, though 100 years ago, in what some would like to believe were the good old days, if you had it you died.

My thoughts are witrh your friend and her mom.  I had the same thing in 2010, and was the reason for my first surgery (that year.)  Hopefully she will be alright to operate on.

That happened to my grandma.  I can't remember how much they had to remove, but suffice it to say she only has a small portion of her lower bowel left.  The worst part is that she is on a VERY restricted diet.  She can't eat any fiber at all.  And she's had to go back into the hospital several times for small blockages.   :(

Those of us in good health should be grateful!

so I shut my computer down, went outside for a while, tried to go back on the computer and my f1 button wasn't working.  I couldn't start my computer.  Joel has lended me another keyboard that hes saws is inconsistent, but as slow as I type, It seems vine.

My kids stayed home yesterday both had colds and were running a fever and looked like they were slapped in the face...today Hunter wore up with a rash on his arms and chest...So, I guess it wasn't a cold but rather The 5th Disease.  I kinda had a feeling it was becuase of the red cheeks.  I know it sounds very scary...Ooooohhh 5th Disease!!!! but really it's just a viral infection and they are no longer contagious but we probably infected all the kids at Megan's sleepover.  ;D

And there was-front and center a photo of me with my first husband.  ::)  After starring at this for a while, I finally moved it-I put it on the wall going up the stairs so the only ones who will see it are the people on their way upstairs. At least Charlie didn't have to look at it when he was sitting there. For the record, she didn't put it there-someone who painted her living room just put the pictures everywhere and he didn't know who was who.

I remember vaguely hearing about it when Elizabeth was at nursery.  Then when James was about 3 or 4 a couple of the babies at nursery got it.  I overheard one of the staff panicking about this and she was switched to work with the older children.  I puzzled over it for a bit and then heard a radio item about someone campaigning to raise awareness over the impact the illness can have on expectant mothers (and their babies) in the first term.  So the nursery nurse was about 9 weeks pregnant at the time and was trying to avoid the illness

I went through a similar experience 22 years ago, getting very sick and having to miss the last three days of school before winter break.

I know when I was a kid I was really sick with something...we were in Panama. No one ever figured out what was wrong with me. I should ask my mom if I looked like I got slapped  ;D   maybe some 39 yrs later we'll have finally figured it out
na...  you don't get "really" sick with 5th's disease.  You have a fever, and then get the red rash and it is over.  By the time you know you have it, it is all said and done.

Well, got a call from school at 1:30 to get Hunter, he was running a fever so I had to pick him up.  Of course he'll have to miss tomorrow because he has to be fever free for 24 hours.  It's the last day before Christmas vacation.

My daughter was in a talent show at school, her talent was singing.  ::). She has pleasant voice just not sure it's talent show material.

Elizabeth left this morning for the school ski trip to France.  I've had a text off her saying the plane had landed in Italy and they are waiting for the coach to take them to the resort.  They must be having a severe storm or tsomething because she was supposed to be landing in France!

Text just arrived from the school.  It just ends "their flight has been." no idea what the missing words are!

The remake of Last House or the original? 

The original was gritty. Hard core and difficult to watch....only difficult because it made you feel so uncomfortable to watch, as if you were actually witness to horrible crime. 


The remake was more polished so not as hard to take in.  On a scale of 1-10 I'd give it about a 7or 8. It was a bit predictable (not because it was a remake but because it pretty much followed the general rules of suspense horror) but it was, as I recall, well acted. It's been a year since I've seen it so I may be remembering more fondly than I should.  ;)

So we went to see a play last night ("Hairspray"), performed by a local amateur company consisting of kids/youths (aged approx. 10 - 25).
Both my nieces had little parts in the play, that's why.

To say we had a good time would be giving the kids too much credit... :-\\ Especially the lead was a TERRIBLE singer. She sang off key for the entire play. A shame really, because there were others in company that had/have a significantly better singing voice.
Apart from that, most of the words (both spoken and sung) were inaudible most of the time - especially those by the boy that played Corny Collins (he had a stutter).
In all, if it hadn't been for the guy that portrayed Tracy's mother the whole play could well have bombed, I'm afraid.

Next year the same company will be performing "The Wiz". So not looking forward to that...



And then on the way home I was flagged down by the police. They were performing a massive DUI-check on one of the main roads. Of course I passed, because I do not drink any alcohol at all.

I've broken out in hives for the past 2 days. I think it's because of stress.

So it turns out I think I have a cold or a virus. This would explain the hives and the cold I'm having right now.  ::)

I took Benadryl and all my hives disappeared in about 2 hours! That's great.

But I still have my cold.

I haven't been sick in about 2 years.  :D

My father died in 1987.  He had purchased a Christmas cactus that year that has only bloomed twice since he died, once was when my son was born  :o , and only produced a flower or two.  Yesterday I turned it around and there were 10 blooms on it.  We are half thinking it is a glad tiding of great joy.  :)

That is the best part, I have never met a plant that could survive my level of neglect. My sister had the plant until last year, and as caring as she was it would not bloom for anything.  We figured once it came to my house that would be the end of it.  No one is more shocked than I am.

As for me, I've got to take father-in-law to see a hematologist today, one of the psych meds he's on can mess with your blood count ( or something), he's been doing fine and every month's blood work has been normal until the last two.  I hope they don't start messing with his meds 'cause when they start that he winds up in the psych hospital for months.

I discovered NB I think in the '80s. Since that time, I refuse to buy anything else. It is my main shoe that I wear ALL THE TIME-and even thrown them in the washer a few times and they still last almost a decade or so. At first, I had a hard time finding them. When I first moved to VT, I had to go to NH or even to the Boston area. Now, I find them EVERYWHERE. The last time I bought a pair (on-line), I discovered that they were indeed made in the U.S. which made me love them even more than I already did.

My daughter loves new balance shoes. We got her "gym" shoes last year on clearance for 19.99 and they were new balance (orig. 59.99) and she liked them, and they held up. This year we were not so lucky as to find them on sale, but we got them anyway as she thinks they are comfortable.  I like that they last and American made is always good!  I have not tried them for myself, but I really do not wear athletic shoes much, I haven't bought a new pair in a three years...  But next time O0

Danoot count me in as a fan of New Balance....not for all those pesky political reasons... they are such so darn comfy and super awesome shoes!!!  I wish I could go to a factory story but I'm happy to say we have a large NB outlet store in Camarillo. Its only 35 miles from my home and on the way to LA so basically I'm in the area a lot!!!!

One more NB story. Several years ago when I needed a new pair, I went to a store that sold them. I'm looking at the ones they had in my size and I really didn't like any of them-but they were NB. They were also VERY expensive-like NB usually are. I was about to settle for a pair that I didn't care for only because it was NB and I needed a pair. Then I noticed the sales table. I figured I would just check it out. Low & behold, there was a pair of NB that I liked and to my surprise-it was in MY SIZE!!!  :o :o :o :o  So, I got my NB for $25!  :)

not much going on today.  I started to sort some stuff in my closet and maybe part with some stuff.  One of the things in my closet are beads.  I gathered some on wires and made a necklace with some beads I had enough of.

Tomorrow (Friday) we will be very busy with last-minute holiday preparations and things of that nature. So I will likely not be online very much, if at all. On top of that, something happened with my laptop's electrical cord, so for now I am running it off the battery (which I can do for a very short time). Festivus is a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 as a way to celebrate the holiday season without participating in its pressures and commercialism. It was created by writer Dan O'Keefe and introduced into popular culture by his son Daniel, a screenwriter for the TV show Seinfeld, as part of a comical storyline on the show. The holiday's celebration, as shown on Seinfeld, includes an unadorned aluminum "Festivus pole", practices such as the "Airing of Grievances" and "Feats of Strength", and the labeling of easily explainable events as "Festivus miracles". Celebrants of the holiday sometimes refer to it as "a Festivus for the rest of us", a saying taken from the O'Keefe family traditions and popularized in the Seinfeld episode to describe Festivus' non-commercial aspect.
