My mom and bro are coming up to visit tomorrow (May 1st).  He wants to visit some sports museum or something, it's attached to the Heinz History Center (which I am interested in.)  Mom wants to go to the casino tomorrow night.

Continuing on a big push to get my house decluttered.  My husband's daughter is coming for a visit from California in July.  It'll take me that long to get rid of stuff and get a bedroom set up for her.  And try to plan something for us to do while she is here.  It's exciting though.  She's 21, and this will be the first time that I meet her.

Never really expected I'd say this in my lifetime but you can have sex with zombies----if you muzzle them first.

I suspect having sexy with a dead body would be no different than one of those folks you're so fond of.
Zombie sex would be better cuz at least they move.

I have sunk to a new low....that's a sure sign of the pending apocalypse will indeed take place.  :D

And I wanna know more about tge sports museum....is it all sports? A Specific sport? All areas? Or only Philly - centric teams.  I mean PA centric

Not to toot my own horn but I totally rocked dispatch today. Two simultaneous emergency situations and an officer on a vehicle stop where the driver's warrant popped up at the exact same time. I juggled two alarm computers, My incident computer three radio channels, multiple phone lines, like 4 or 5, and managed to get the officer's subject run to reveal the warrant before she let him off with a warming cuz it was getting busy.....all that and I got my data entry finished and posted to fb in the same 1-5 minute window!!!!

Not really.  She comes from a desert town south of San Diego, so there's not much to do.  Apparently.  ;D

She has 3 pet snakes ( 8-P ), knits (which I can't do), and likes orchids (we just had the orchid growers show last month, so that would have been perfect.)  Alas...  I just need to do more research between times that I'm not procrastinating decluttering.  :P :-

I'd say it'd be stupid for them to keep the name if they moved but then I remembered the Lakers were originally from Minneapolis  ::)

I think the '76ers (gah I sound like a decadologist) are still in Philly.  Not sure, don't follow sports at all, unless it's unavoidable when one of the Pittsburgh teams are in the playoffs.  Also, Philly and Pittsburgh have somewhat of a rivalry (I guess) sportswise, but not as much as Cleveland and Pittsburgh.  They don't like us just as much as we apparently don't like them.  :D ;)

My mom doesn't want me on because I'm just wasting time here and she says it makes me mentally tired.  Maybe and perhaps I can cut back a little but what's really draining is listening to everything she says.  She tells me everything she's doing as well as what I need to do.

before my brocolli pizza dinner, I was in my garden pulling seed pods of my lupine and collecting seeds.  This is the first time I collected seeds from a plant.  I like opening pea pods , but hate peas.  I had fun and there's still some more pods to brown before the seeds are ready.

That I don't know and haven't herd from her.  She said it makes me mentally tired, I guess I need to ask her to tell me more about every dam thing she's doing every day.  I'm not sure what she wants, but if something like dam Ann get a job or something like that were said then it would make some since.  I cant read her mind, I'm not going to try, There still remains a disfunction loop of some sort.

Since he asked nicely, it's off to Zombieland!  I like Zombie Girl.  She could eat my brains anytime.  Probably starve to death or get a little tipsy off 'em at this hour, but hey, she knew what she was getting into!

l3NGlM8tnOw

(And despite one mistranscribed lyric that should be "who walk forever hunting in the dark", this lounge version of Zombie Girl's We Are The Ones is pretty neat.  For those that prefer a more electro/dance/EBM/industrial edge, We Are The Ones (Rotting Corpse Mix) by Icon of Coil still kicks it.)

Long live blood, brains, and rock and roll!

seriously- In the past when telling her how I felt as a child, she just yelled at me more.  What do you think she's going to do now?

:D-  Why am I trying to explain anything to Howard?

Okay, so mom doesn't want me here in the OO's.  I don't know if that means online or just here, but we have a famly commection and if I turn it on to do anything, I'll most likly be accused of wasting my time in the 00's if my mom finds the thing on and I turned it on.

The least brain draining draining activity I can can come up with is my garden.  So I'll go out in my garden and make sure I stay out there for a while if I have to stare at my plants.  It's 10:37 now and I'm typing this on notepad so I can submit it later.  How much later? people have lunch breaks right? I'm thinking a little peak some time 12ish 1ish depending. unless the connection thing hasn't been turned on by someone elese yet or something.

11:30 way home from grocery store mom and I were talking.  I said I haven't even checked my e-mail yet beacause you (inturruption) I just don't want you to get distracted.

That's not what mom said to me yesterday.  I'd like a list from mom of all these important things I might  distract myself from, especially every day.  I usually come here because I don't have anything important to do.

Local paper has an advert for a science technician at my daughter's school.  I applied for the role last year sometime and didn't even get short-listed.  So I'm revamping my application form and trying again.  You'd think with 20 years experience in a similar role (albeit with Uni students) and the experience I have through Scouting and school volunteering I should be exactly what they're looking for.  :-\\

woke up today and seriously considered ending my live again.  I'm okay now and I think I need to get this way to get my mom's attention.  Now I'm trying to look back at what I said so I can explain to my mom what was p------ me off so much.  She's  giving me an example of something that shows why I need help from the City Of Hope.  I know I need help from them.

A long time ago, I planted snapdragons and trey disappeared on me.  There's a pretty one that has just came up and flowered.  There must be some tuff roots in the ground.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but you really need to get away from your mother. It seems like you have a lethal relationship with her. If she is driving you to even consider taking your own life, then that is really not healthy for you. Some people are just TOXIC to our well being, and the sooner it is realized and changed, the better. I wish you all the best, you deserve it! :)

I don't really know how to get away from her and it may be impossible for me.  This is the last time I think I'm going to put up with feeling like I need to kill myself to possibly get her attention or whatever.  I'm hoping this City Of Hope place will decide I can't figure out how to take care of myself and separate me from my mom.

:D-  Why am I trying to explain anything to Howard?

Cow-orker: "Foo, y u no hang out with us after work?"
Foo: "I hung out with you all day and we still didn't get much accomplished.  Go home and be with your spouse and kids or something.  I've got internets to internet!"

http://chzbronies.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic-brony-just-playing-with-portals.gif

If every day can be separated into 8 hours work, 8 hours sleep, and 8 hours of play, then every 24 hours of leisure can be separated into 8 hours socializing with cow-orkers, 8 hours on hobbies, and 8 hours of just plain silly.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_D_Z-D2tzi14/TBpWM3wxI1I/AAAAAAAADFk/6ROBYJkpuuQ/s640/responsibility1.png

I'm all about the silly.

This is why I'll never be an adult, (nailed it within two minutes depending on which time zone you live in) and it's also why that's perfectly OK.  And why Allie Brosh is Awesome.

Keep trying Karen.

Ann- weren't you seeing an advisor or counselor from City of Hope? You need to talk to them or you need to tell your drs you want to see a counselor, psychiatrist or therapist  someone who can deal with your specific issues and have them give you a referral.

You need to see a professional and you need to tell them everything you feel, everything you fear and need to ask them to help you seek the independence you crave.

The people here care but they are not professionals. They are not equipped to deal with your need for attention, particularly when it manifests itself in suicidal tendencies. This is about the 6th time you've come here talking about want to kill yourself.  Talking about killing yourself solves nothing. It gets you the wrong kind of attention and ultimately loses you the respect of people who care when u do it over and over and over again. I deal regularly with people who a truly suicidal and those who are attention seeking.  The answer for both is the same.  Go get help from people equipped to deal with you. We don't know you and we don't know your mom so no one here can rolvs your issues with her.  This site gives you a place to vent and venting is good but you could write in a journal and get the venting out.

If you post about suicide again I will do what Max's aunt did to him and call my friends in Modesto and have you pulled in for evaluation. Perhaps thats harsh but perhaps it's what you need.  If you seriously want to kill yourself, and I suspect you don't, then you'll get the help you need...if you're typing it repeatedly here to seek attention, like you're seeking with your mom, it's immature and unfair to the people here who genuinely care about you and take interest in you.

First of all I'd like to say thank you.  I'm an undeveloped adult in need of a lot of learning.

I sent e- mail to the councelor at The City Of Hope  and she told me to find a professional in my area.  Okay, I thought they were profesisionals or could help me find one.  She also told me that what I sent her was like a personal journal and I shouldn't be sending anything like a personal journal over the internet.

I e-mailed both over here and to her at the same time.

Sorry I'll never say anything about my mom again so I don't end up saying anything like suiside any more.

I don't really know anything about City of Hope but more than likely she's a case worker or a social worker....not a licensed therapist. You need to find a therapist or psychiatrist.  If you don't know how to find one you can ask your doctor for a referral. Heck you could even ask the city of hope person if they have any names or lists or recommendations where to go.  People won't know you don't know how to do it until you ask
Most people are uncomfortable talking about suicide with people they think might be suicidal. Truth is either the person is gonna do it or they aren't. Their talking about it isn't going to cement the thought further into the mind of the person they're talking to but the fear is that it will.

You seem rather comfortable telling us what you don't know how to do. You need to find the words to tell those around you when don't understand something.
Phrases like "I want to do (whatever is suggested) but I don't know how can you tell/show/teach me how to do that?" will help you tremendously.  It may be a little embarrassing or you may feel uncomfortable but remember all of us adults had to learn these things too.

And don't sell yourself short. You're smarter and more resourceful than you give yourself credit for.

I know you and you're mom butt heads a lot. Seems like she communicates, you get defensive and then come here to vent. Perhaps asking more questions and receiving the answers with an open mind will help. Try not to get defensive just accept the information and try to understand why she's saying what she's saying -does she want a better life for you? Does she want you to learn independence? Does she worry about the annoous people you reveal everything to?  Is she trying to helP you?  Or- is she actually just being a bitch.  You, I think, tend to assume its the last one-  sometimes when I silently play devils advocate I can see how it could be anyone of the others.

May 1: The Person of Interest night was interesting. I aost got a pic with Jim Cavizel but some bitch jumped in when he said yes to me....and that was the last pic of the night.  >:(

May 3: Johnny Carson: King of Laye Night is a fantastic doc....it airs on PBS sometime this summer.
Carl Reiner and drew Carey were in the audience (didn't catch them for pics tho :( ) got pics wot Doc S. & David steinburg

May 4: Juliet Landau invited me & my friends. Sorry, my friends and I  ::) to a reading of a play she and her hubby are trying to get produced. It was written by the wife of one of the producers of Buffy/Angel. The actors were reading from scripts but rather than a table read they had actually staged the play so the pantomimed tge actions and actually moved per the stage directions. It was FANTASTIC! Super funny and well acted much more lively than I expected. Sam Anderson (Bernard for Losties otherwise imdb him you know him he's been in 146 things). He was in the audience.  The dude who voiced Skelator in the He-Man cartoons was in the play. 3 other people who have done a little tv, but nothing significant, we're also in it.  The play reading started at 820 and ended at 1030. Juliet, my friends and I  :P stood around and talked until midnight. It was an amazing night.

I'm exhausted. To bed. No personal trainer in the am. I need sleep, plus now I have to work next sat so hopefully I start the following sat.

Yeah, so I had a good time on my cruise.

Saturday was the sail-away. From noon to 3pm, people were able to board the ship. At 3:15 we had a "muster drill", which we all needed to know for emergency purposes; there are six "muster" stations on the ship, mostly in different lounges; each stateroom is assigned one of the six, and how to get to them. That drill took 15-20 minutes to complete. And at 4pm or thereabouts, the ship began to sail out towards the Pacific Ocean, so most people (including me and my parents) went up to the upper decks to watch as we sailed out of the Port of Los Angeles and harbor. By the way, my parents' stateroom was one with a balcony, and mine was a smaller one, in the interior of the ship (no windows).

That night, we took part in a trivia contest; on our team was a woman who my mom had made friends with online, and the woman's teenage son, who was on break from school; they live on the East Coast. The woman's name was Jan and her son was named Matt. The five of us had a great time playing the trivia game, despite not winning. In this contest, we had to write our answers down on a slip of paper, and one team member would carry it down to the front and show it to a cruise staff member who was emceeing the contest; some of the responses were pretty funny when read aloud. My parents and I later went to a show in the Princess Theatre which featured music and a comedy performance.

Sunday, the ship anchored offa Santa Barbara, but not in the harbor there because the waters are too shallow near the docks. So to get from the ship to the land (and vice-a-versa), the lifeboats (aka tenders) were used. My parents and I got on a shuttle bus (fare 25 cents a person) which went up State Street; its turnaround point was at Sola Street, which was perfect for us because we went to church at Our Lady Of Sorrows Church, which is on Sola Street just a couple blocks east of State. When the service was over, we decided to walk all the way back down State Street to the ocean (a stretch of 14+ city blocks; it gave us some great exercise) and get back on the ship. We didn't do anything else in Santa Barbara.

That night we took part in a Jeopardy-style trivia contest. Again we teamed up with Jan and Matt. In this contest, we had to write our responses on a sheet of paper, but thankfully did not have to write "What is" before each response.

Monday was a sea day (heading up north towards San Francisco); we had plenty of activities on the ship to keep us busy. We also had the pleasure of just relaxing in our staterooms if we didn't want to do anything else.

Tuesday, the ship docked in San Francisco. My parents and I managed to make the most of our time there. We walked from Pier 35 (where the ship was docked) all the way to a booth where we could each buy a $14 day pass which enabled us unlimited use of public transportation. This included the cable cars, the bus lines, and the B.A.R.T. So we rode the cable car from Hyde/Jefferson to Powell/Market and caught a bus line to take us across town to Golden Gate Park, where we visited the Japanese Tea Garden and took lots of pictures of plants and nature. We saw other parts of Golden Gate Park as well, before catching the bus to take us back towards the downtown area. By now it was after lunchtime, and we wanted to see if we could get something to eat at the Ferry Building, but the place was packed. So we decided we'd come back later. We saw the Railway Museum (which displayed lots of history and information on SF's rail system). One place I wanted to see in San Fran was AT&T Park, the stadium where the Giants have played baseball since 2000. So we got on a rail line ("T", I think it was) that took us down to the southern terminus of The Embarcadero, where AT&T Park is located. Once there, we walked around the place and took some pictures (which I will share later). We even got to see McCovey Cove (the section of San Francisco Bay beyond the right field wall of AT&T Park) and the back side of the out-of-town scoreboards which are located in the outfield walls. Then we took a rail line to get us back up The Embarcadero to Boudin Bakery, an eatery where we ate soup in a bread-bowl for a late lunch. When we were done there, we took another walk towards Ghirardelli Square (which was a long walk, but worth it) and had a treat there. Then another walk back towards Jones Street, where we caught the light-rail line "F" to take us back to Pier 35 and re-board the ship. (This was my 2nd time in San Francisco; the only other time I went there was in August of 1991, when I was 11; we were on a trip in which we had been staying in Santa Cruz for a couple days.)

Wednesday was another sea day; I mainly rested in my stateroom after a long day in SF. In the evening, after we ate, we saw a magician perform in one of the lounges. Some of the things he did were hilarious.

Thursday...to San Diego. My mom has a friend who lives there; this woman (whose name is Barbara) also happens to be our travel agent. Nice lady. She and her husband, Jim, took us on a grand tour of the area; first we stopped by Petco Park, where the San Diego Padres have been playing pro baseball since 2004. I managed to take some good pictures of that stadium before Barbara and Jim continued with the tour. They took us to Coronado, a community that is on somewhat of an island (accessible through a very long bridge from San Diego), and then they took us to lunch at a Mexican cafe-style place. After that, they took us through the nearby community of Ocean Beach (passing close to Sea World along the way), and then down to the Cabrillo Monument and Point Loma (where there is a lighthouse and nearby museum). They also took us to La Jolla and the Mount Soledad Cross (which sits on a hill) before finally taking us back toward the ship. (This was my 2nd time in San Diego, and first time in the urban core of the city. My only other time in San Diego was when I went to Sea World in August of 1994.)

Thursday night on the ship, we again met up with Jan and Matt, and the five of us played as a team in another trivia contest...this time, one having to do with geography. Again, we had a great time despite not answering the most questions correctly.

Friday, the ship was in the port of Ensenada, Mexico, but we did not get off. Instead, we did some activities on the ship, including participating in a sports trivia game...which we won! (Thanks in part to my dad being knowledgeable about various sports.) We also took part in another trivia game (featuring general knowledge), but got maybe half the questions right. In the evening, we teamed up with Jan and Matt in a "Do you remember the lyrics" game, in which we had to figure out the missing line (after hearing part of a popular song and following along on a TV screen, where the lyrics were printed). We won that contest with my help, since I knew lots of correct lines. (One of the songs featured was "Blinded By The Light"; we had to figure out the words that get mentioned after the title; I got 'em right.)

I made sure I got to bed at a decent time that night, since we all had to vacate our staterooms by 8:00 on Saturday morning. I was in the designated group that was scheduled to disembark from the ship at 9:35; once off the ship and into the port terminal, we claimed our luggage (which we had to pack on Friday afternoon and have collected after we ate our dinner).

I had a really good time on the ship; the week just went by *so* quickly. There was lots of food to eat, so I never had to worry about getting hungry. So now, having gone on one cruise, I have enjoyed the experience and would like to do it again sometime. :) (For my parents, this was their fourth cruise.)

Turns out they (there were two of them) were about 15 miles south of me, and they were really small tornadoes that touched down in an unpopulated area so they didn't really do any damage.

Sounds like alot of fun Jeff

Needing some prayers and good thoughts.  Been a very busy, stressful couple of weeks.  Just when you think it can't get worse it does.  Needing some good things to happen for the family and our Newfie Otis...

Jason's 90 year old grandfather drove his car off the road and ended up in a drainage ditch.  Thankfully some cuts and bruises; had to be extracted with the Jaws of life but no one hurt.  They think his blood sugar was out of wack.  Jason has been saying he should not be driving, we are very thankful he did not end someone else's life, he could die tomorrow and that would not be un expected. Just do not want him hurting someone else.  But he lives in the country, 7 miles from town.  He will not cook for himself, and he complains about the food if Jason's mom takes him food (so she refuses to do it now).  So he drives into town to eat.  (not just the closest town either, he chose this last time to go to town 20 miles away).  He is diabetic, and really needs assisted living.  He is not able to get up and down on his own. But he needs someone to prepare the proper meals for him....  Anyhow first thoughts, changes ahead for the family.

Needing another set of prayers, karm and good thoughts. My Newfie chased the cattle through a gate last Monday, no one seemed worse for wear thankfully.  THis is not the first time, so we were trying to make some changes to his pen (we have always left him out to the 5 acre pasture, so he was not bored in a kennel and could get all the sun/shade/creek as he liked) to try and keep him away from calves so someone didn't get hurt.  Busy week, and gone every day and into night of the week. Just made sure his 3 pools/bucket/pond of water were full fresh and clean and his food (self feeder) had food in it.  I was not able to really see him. Gone all day Sat., and then Sunday I did not go outside due to sunburn.  At about 8 husband asks if I have seen otie all day. I say I haven't moved from the chair, he's says he just realized he hasn't seen him.  I call him and call him, and he comes out of the girls play house (he has taken it over as his dog house).  I go and make sure all is all right, he has water and food, and I notice he is panting.  I worry he has not been drinking the water, as he has always drank the fresh moving water from the cattle drinkers, so we open his cage back up to the cattle.  He walks out and drinks right away.  Problem, how to keep Otie away from cattle when he only drinks from a cattle drinker.  Sun is down, black dog hard to see anything.  Last night, I notice Otie out in the pasture, not walking well on his back end. Thinking the cattle must have hurt him last week when he chased them through the gate.  We go out to see, and he is laying in the hay bale.  Fur comes off in my hand from his hind quarters. Maggots....  UGGGH I have seen this when I worked in the vet clinic.  Get out the clippers (we normally shave him down the end of May, Early June - but this year we have had several 80+ degree days already.  Unfortunately it is everyone's busy season; we were even just talking to the dog groomer last Thursday when we took Miley in if we roughed out Otis if she would clean up the cut. Well he either got hurt last week from cattle or something, and the flies laid eggs.  Shaved him (partially, he got really week on us) and washed his back (making him wimper, tore my heart out), sprayed him with screw worm spray (what we had left) and I shot him up with antibiotics (thank god for internet and livestock) Baytril and Dexamethasone.  He had a fever last night, breathing hard, heart was thumping.  This morning he has drank 2 gallons of water, haven't gotten him to eat yet.  But he is breathing better, and laying on the cement, not the rugs in the shop. So I think his fever is down.  Now to see how the rest of his treatment will go.

Keep it up guys.  90 year old is at assissted living at the nursing home as we speak.  Hopefully this will become a way of life for him, and he won't talk Jason's Aunt or Dad into letting him go home!

As for the dog, things are OK - not out of the woods yet.  Otis has drank 3+ gallons of water today, not able to entice him to eat anything.  I am more worried about flushing the toxin's maggots produce out of his system than eating. So drinking is a good thing.  I have offered him dog food, brat or corned beef hash, no go...  I have no canned food right now (the toxins that the maggots produce are paralytic, so chewing and swallowing could be a bit difficult) so I need easy to chew food.  Frying up some ground venison right now.  I will make gruel and force feed him if I have to tomorrow.  Haven't seen any more crawly's so hopefully that is the case.  Giving him 6 cc's of penicillin twice a day SubQ.  He has moved about the room, and pee'd once and is sitting with his head up and is alert.  All good signs I believe.  Keep doing what you are doing! Thanks in advance!!!

Please keep us posted. The first couple sentences are similar to what I went through with Chloe last August, although her condition was different from that of your dog.

That's great Jeff!  I'm glad you had such a good time.  Good to have you back too, though.

Jason's grandpa should marry my grandma.  They sound like soul mates...

And poor dog!!  Please give him a love.

Well Otie Update...

He is still with us, and he is wagging  his tail when he see's us.  We are still treating him, and still have him in the flower shop with heating and cooling, running water and cement floor so we can clean him up and any other messiness.  I am giving him 2 6cc injections of pennicillin a day.  He has never stopped drinking, and he is drinking lots.  So we are flushing the toxins the maggots produced from his body, but they act as a paralytic.  So it is a slow progress.  He is up walking and goes out and we walk him around the yard.  Have not seen any more maggots.  We washed him down for the second time last night.  He stood for the longest ever last night.  Still very sore, but he has handled me rubbing, washing, force feeding, making him get up giving shots, etc... like a trooper.  I do have to force feed him canned food, as he licks his chops but just will not eat himself.  He is now trying to tell us something.  I just wish I could read his mind.  Last night he walked over to his dry food we have there at all times, and he looked at us took his muzzle and pushed it all out of the plan.  So I opened the new bag of food, and he acted interested but when I put it down, he pushed it again with his muzzle and looked at me.  I think he wants steak....

well he did not quite get steak!  But he did get my quart jar of Amush canned beef!  A $12.65 jar of canned beef!  He did not eat it in his own right away, but when my husband held it with a fork to his lips, and it dropped on the ground, Otis picked it up and ate it 3 time.  Not much, but an improvement.  Hubby was home as it was the girls spring concert; so he nursed him a bit!  Tonight, oriel ate some more beef on his own. Walked outside on his own and finally went number 2 as well!  He is on the mend!  Maybe tomorrow steak, as I know it won't be completely wasted! Girls thought I should make him homemade chicken noodle soup!  Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure everyone knows how sucky my birthday was this year-right down to the fact that the restaurant we went to was out of lobsters so I couldn't even get one of my favorite meals.

Well, my "personal chef" wanted to make it up to me so when he last went to the grocery store, he picked up some lobsters for dinner last night.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love that man?

He ate the steak, no mashed potatoes.  He is being really strangely picky!  We have 3 varieties of dry food, all he has ate at one time or another (and all good quality, over $40 a bag).  He will not eat them, in the shop in his pan; he would not eat canned food in the bowl, till I put it in the pan with his dry food.  Do not think he likes "brats n tots" Merrick food at all!  But then today I found him eating food I had thrown out of his bowl (and I fed to the outside cats) a few days ago... He was eating it like he couldn't get enough of it....  It happened to be Miley's "taste of the wild". So I put it in his pan tonight, and he "hmmmmphd" at me.

He is up and walking out on his own.  Still ugly looking, but spraying stuff to heal the wounds!

Went to visit my mother today-it was a VERY nice visit. Two of my sisters were there, too. We took her out to lunch. We are worried because my mother's foot is REALLY swollen and looks black & blue. Hopefully, she will get to the doc tomorrow about it.

Unfortunately, on the way home, we ended up in the middle of a hailstorm.  :o :o :o  At one point, we pulled off the road. I was pretty scare-but we got through ok.

It's getting to the point where sometimes her mind is sharp as a tack and sometimes she forgets a lot, she also needs diapers. I remember when back in the 80's when I always recieved "gelt" which is jewish for money every Hannukah or when it came on my birthday I'd get checks from her.

so....what I read into all of this is that your grandmother is not the last one in her family...her family is still carrying on...  unless you meant she the last surviving (whatever-her-maiden-name-is)  that makes sense.

Orienteering this morning.  The event was also a County Schools competition.  Elizabeth's school won the senior school competition.  Not bad considering some of the girls had never orienteered before!!

This evening I am morris dancing at an event organised for some visitors from one of our twin towns (sister city might be the US term).  Next year we hope to go across to Belgium to visit them.

Bought a car today! :)

Congratulations!  Sounds like a lovely car.

I need a new car.  My muffler has been getting noisy (not super loud but has potential  ::) ) and the shop wants to replace the whole exhaust system for $1400.  :\'(  We've poured so much into this car already and we've only had it a year.  It's a 97 Saturn Station Wagon.  I think hubby is going to take it somewhere else for a second opinion.  :(

I think I'm back.  I think I may have told you Sacramento, no that's just where I go to get my ears fixed and I seem to have been going to Sacramento all my life.  The City Of Hope is in Duarte.  Grapevine isn't covered with CA poppies like it was when I was a kid.  Anyway,  My aunt that lives in Thousand Oaks had a birthday on the 21st and we all went out to dinner.

The City Of Hope is in Duarte.

An area I know pretty well, since it's in Los Angeles County, and I used to pass through there a lot during the 90's when my mom worked in the San Gabriel Valley.

Anyway, My aunt that lives in Thousand Oaks had a birthday on the 21st and we all went out to dinner.

Oh, that must've been nice. Over the weekend I visited with a friend from Thousand Oaks, but we met in Camarillo since that's midway between T.O. and Oxnard.

The weather has finally turned nice, in fact it was a bit too warm tonight for dancing about!

Off to make some toast now.

I just found a new tenant in the yard, a rabbit decided to make her den in my tomato garden right behind the
marigolds. She just started the den, the dirt for the hole is still fresh. When I first saw it there was a little grass
down in the hole, now a few hours later and she has a thatch roof built, it is amazing watching nature at work.
I didn't have the heart to evict her, my guess is she getting ready to have babies but if she touches one tomato
out she goes.

I was going to clean out the dirt from my pond to see if my solar pumps work better.  I had it all dumped this morning and listed it up to find at least 7 snails and some bugs that looked lick cocroaches.  I was worried the water wasn't getting circulated enough, but put that aside.  I 'm housing snails.  I hate snails.

I'm sure we originally booked for the morning session, but we've ended up with tickets for the Saturday afternoon.  we've booked a hotel for the night so we can have a bit of a day in London on the Sunday.  Just got to look into getting down there now, train or drive and catch the tube.

We have a bird feeding-actually it is more of a squirrel feeder. This is what it looks like:
http://www.birdfeedingstation.com/images/P/p-06.jpg

We also put a covered bird feeder there so the seeds won't get wet when it rains. Usually we don't mind the squirrels eating at it too but what bothers me is when they have to climb up and dump ALL the seeds on the ground. We do put some at a lower level for them. We also put out old apples that they seem to like, too. I have some video of them on the feeder. Maybe I should put them up on YouTube to show you.

We have squirrel feeders and bird feeders.  We give the squirrels whole peanuts, and they don't even bother with the bird food.  It all works out.  But the birds spill their food all the time...I think they prefer to eat it off the ground.  ;D

What kind of birds do you have? We have sparrows, chickadees, cardinals, & blue jays. We do have robins but they don't seem to like the seeds. We will also have ruby throated hummingbirds if Carlos remembers to put up the hummingbird feeder.  We named the hummers "George" & "Gracie." They may be more than just one "George" or more than one "Gracie."  :D ;D ;D ;D

Tge best time to interview for a job is when you don't need one  ;D
You'll be more relaxed/less desperate  ;)

WTG I've never told an employer I was interviewing elsewhere.  Wait I did tell them when I was in backgrounds with another agency and that's how I got them to move on tge lead dispatch position. Hindsight being what it is and all I think maybe I just should've taken the other job!!!

I get the feeling your looking wasn't strictly about the pay tho right? The hours and some of the practices/treatment in the office? Those never change.

TBH I debated whether to say anything or not.  I actually called Dai and asked his opinion!  He reckoned honesty was the best policy, plus I'm a rotten liar and coming up with another reason to suddenly need a morning off wasn't easy.

My manager asked me if money was the only reason I was looking for a new job and I said it was the main reason.  Some of the problems have left/got sacked so that makes some things better.

This evening we are driving up north. SIL is camping with Step-daughter #2 & Granddaughter #1 and have invited us to dinner. The entire Vermont contingency will be there (step-kids & grandkids).

Then tomorrow is our annual SPRING FLING!!!! I think we should have about 20 people or so this year-but I haven't heard if my niece is coming or not. I called but she never returned my call.

Sunday, SIL is leaving.  :\'( :\'( :\'( Yeah, it will be nice to have the house to ourselves once again but I love having her around. I am going to miss her. But, I'm sure she will be back-now that she has more freedom that she did and can get away whenever she wants to.

Good to know about the second part.

My theory in lying has always been don't lie....just get creative with the truths you tell.
Ie can I have Wednesday off because I have meeting at my daughters school. What about? The science program.  See no lies  ;)

I don't recall if I told this story before but I once worked a job where we took at risk kids from school to volunteer at nursing homes. My work partner and I were caught up with our paperwork during a school break/holiday week.  Anyway- because we were getting money from Americorps we were required to be at work even tho there was nothing to do.

We decided to sneak out and n we returned a few hours later we got called in by the boss. My friend panicked but I. Told my boss we:
We went by brookside (one of our schools)
Saw a student
&
Stopped at UOP

We were en route to my friends house to hang out. She lived near the school so we actually drive passed the school and waved to a student we knew as we drive by. On our way back we passed UOP and "stopped" at tge red light there.  :D

I'd like to take the squirrels and ring their little thieving necks.  I get squirrel proof bird feeders, if I don't the little pissahs steal everything in the feeders.  Actually, this year I didn't have the feeders out.  They say you shouldn't feed them in summer months because they lose the ability to feed themselves without feeders, so I only put them out during snow storms.  I do have lots of bushes with berries that they like to eat, and a couple of bird baths that they love.

I like squirrels (which is why we feed them). I think they are cute.

One time when I was at my sister's in Tulsa in my smoking days. I went out on her back porch to fire up when this squirrel run up to me. I have never seen a squirrel do that before. I called my sister to tell her about this squirrel and she told me her husband (who had just passed away at the time) used to go out there to smoke and he fed that squirrel and the squirrel became VERY friendly. He probably would have eaten out of my hand if I let him-but I wasn't that brave.

We have a neighborhood in Pittsburgh called Squirrel Hill.  I've only seen squirrels once in all the years I've been going there.  I take that back, seems like every business in that neighborhood has a squirrel statue or one painted in their window or in their logo.  The other day I even saw a squirrel statue attached to the roof of a car.  Forget what the business was now.  I couldn't get my camera ready in tiime to take a picture.

Squirrels are alright, they are usually frightened of me, so I guess I don't like them as much as cats.  Although our neighbor's dog was chasing a squirrel awhile back and it ran clear up a telephone pole and across the wire to a tree for safety.  Boy was I mad at the dog.  >:(

Why don't you like squirrels?

Squirrels are turbo charged rats with fluffy tails.  They steal all the bird food and don't let one get in your attic, they sometimes tear away at the eaves, get in and are very destructive.

Do you ever hear their mating call?

Yesterday was a good day. Every year about 10-11:00 I start worrying. As it gets closer to 11:30 I go into panic mode. "No one's coming."  :\'( :\'( :\'(  Of course every starts showing up and it all turns out well. Yesterday was no exception. My niece didn't come this year but we had a pretty good crowd-about 13 of us and SIL showed up later. Good food & good company.

After the parade went by (which seems to get shorter and shorter every year  :-\\ ), only one group left and EVERYONE else went to the park to see all the venders. We bought our year supply of maple syrup (like we always do) and I bought three beautiful necklaces from a woman made them. She had them listed 1 for $10 or 2 for $15. I picked out 3 and asked her if she would make a deal on 3. She said it was the end of day so sure. She sold me the 3 for $20. WAY COOL!!! And they are BEAUTIFUL!!!

When we got back to the house, most people started to leave. The last of the groups left about 4:30-and then it was Carlos, SIL, & myself. I came up here for just a short period of time to check email, eBay, and such and then the 3 of us spent most of the evening on the porch just talking. It was such a nice day weather wise. I always love Spring Fling!

This morning, my SIL packed up her camper van and headed out. I said to her, "I'm NOT going to cry. I'm NOT going to cry." She said, "I'm not going to cry either." After she left, I said to Carlos, "Ok, I lied. I AM going to cry." I'm still crying now. I just love my SIL and will miss having her around. I said to Carlos I wonder if I would be able to handle having any one of my own sisters stay with us for this long and not looking forward to them leaving. He started laughing. The house just seems so quiet. It is not like she was noisy or anything but it just seems empty.

Sometimes they run around in a park or other place of landscaping, and they make some rather cute poses.

Sounds like you had a really nice time.  Glad you had a good turnout.  Good job on getting the deal with the necklaces.  You should take some pictures to show us.  What kind of good food did you have at your party?  I live vicariously through other people's celebrations.  It's nice that you've had so much bonding time with your SIL.  I'm just now starting to not be afraid of my SIL.  She's buff and fierce and could easily kick my ass, but she likes me so that is good.
When is the next planned visit to Puerto Rico?

Man, questions, questions.  :D ;D ;D  j/k

When we first started this, it was hot dogs & hamburgers. But then a few years ago, Carlos said, "Let's do something different." So, he started to make "pinchos" which is basically barbecue chicken (even though it can also be beef or pork). He makes his own sauce and cut the chicken into bite-size. He used to barbecue it on a skewer but found it is easier without the skewer. And man, is it YUMMY!!!! The first year we did that, we asked everyone what they liked better-they ALL said the chicken so that is what we do every year now. As for the other "stuff," everyone brings something-so we have a variety of dishes. One person brought a potato salad, another rice & beans (which were YUMMY!!!), someone else brought a quiche. Someone else brought a plum cake. Again, YUMMY!!! We also have some fruit. Usually some starfruit from our tree in PR but SIL was here so she couldn't send us the fruit. We did have a watermelon but never did cut it open. That happens frequently.

As for going to PR, we will probably go in Jan/Feb. We are planning another trip in the fall (TBA).

When I talked about our barbecue, I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I WOULD FORGET THIS PART!!!!

When we went to the park, there was a raffle for the local Historical Society. The lady at the booth asked if I was Carlos' daughter's sister. I looked at her and said that I am her step-mother. She then said, "I thought so." Then why did you ask if I was her sister?  ???

Anyway, I bought 5 tickets. There were 20 prizes and I thought the 5 tickets would go into one big bag and everyone was in the running for all prizes. What they did have was a bag in front of all the prizes and you put a ticket in on the prize you wanted. Anyone who knows me knows that I have a hard time making decisions. Carlos was there telling me to hurry up and the ladies kept saying that they were going to pull the names as soon as I was done-but no pressure.  :-\\  Some of the bags didn't have too many tickets in them, so I figured I had a better chance of winning those. After I put all of the tickets in the bags, I walked away.

When I got back to the house, I was on the porch farthest from the road. Then I heard everyone calling my name. There was a car that pulled up in front of the house. It was the woman from the Historical Society's booth. I said, "Oh WOW! I WON!!!" I never win ANYTHING. The first thing she hands me is a fishing rod & a chair. AND THEN she hands me a basket full of bath products. I WON TWO PRIZES!!!!  :o :o :o :o She told me that she told Carlos that I won but he never told me. When I asked him about it, he said that he was told the prizes would be delivered so he didn't bother.

As usual, whenever I buy something, Carlos has to have first dibs on it. lol. He opened the chair and added it to our collection of chairs on the porch. I made a comment that we could have used the chair earlier when everyone was there. Then he opened the fishing pole. It was a nice one. A guest asked if we needed a new fishing pole. Carlos said, "You can ALWAYS use a new fishing pole."  I did give some of the bath products to SIL before she left. It was lotion that I don't usually use and there were two things of bath gel so I gave her one.

Like I said, I don't know HOW I forgot to mention about that yesterday.  :-[

^congrats on winning!!!  I love winning stuff.

My friend the detective (from another agency in the city) had a house warming party. I've known him for years...hell I was at his academy graduation  :)  anyway, being a detective he's made friends with alot of DA's so the house was full of cops and lawyers (and a few people his wife knows - she works at the University in the science/engineering area).....anyway.... I spent the better part of the afternoon sitting with a prosecutor from MJs second trial... talk about fascinating! I knew the bastard was guilty but yesterday sealed it for me!

It wasn't tell after he left I found out he also worked on another infamous trial here....the case the movie Alphadogs is based one.  I need my friend to have dinner party so I can get the skinny on that too!  ;D

Maybe I should introduce you to my cousin because he & his wife are "lawyers to the stars." Of course they are not prosecutors-they deal with contracts & such. I know Vanna White at least WAS a client of theirs-not too sure if she still is. When they got married, they didn't invite her to the wedding because they didn't want her to upstage the bride. lol. I didn't make it to the wedding but I heard there were some celebs there. Someone asked my aunt when my brother walked by, "Is that Hal Linden?" and my aunt replied, "Could be."  :D ;D ;D ;D ;D  Yeah, my brother does look a bit like Hal Linden.

Went to a friends yesterday for a barbecue.  It was their daughter's 13th birthday.  We cycled round so we could have a little drink or two.

Spent some of the weekend prepping for my interview on Wednesday.  I've got to write a sheet on how to make of model demonstrating how the arm bends.  Real Blue Peter stuff with paper fasteners, a cereal packet and elastic!

At work today my regional manager phoned up to mention a pay rise!  Not as big as i was hoping for, but will talk to Dai tonight

If I'm dead I won't be able to answer now will I  ;D

I just need people to keep me company....the officers are a bit quiet today which is good cuz I don't have to move much. I don't have anyone avail to come in until 2130 (to be honest I really could use the OT so I wouldn't leave even if I could find someone)  and mostly I'm just sitting trying to ignore the pain...distractions would be very welcome.

btw, did you know some people actually think there's one 9-1-1 call center in the country? They think that all 9-1-1 calls go there.  ::)

Others think we're psychic.  They will call and tell us about a crime and use words like here or at my home....um...how about giving us an address?    Not all 9-1-1 calls come from the location the crime occurred.  Not all business line calls come in with caller id either so when we ask a caller where it happened we'd kinda like to get an address not  "here" or "at my house"

Well I suppose if I become a zombie I could, potentially answer the phone!

unnnh -  unnnnh - unnnh!  :D

I saw a zombie movie the other night Survival of the Dead where a man thought that if you could train the zombies to eat something other than humans (pigs, horses, etc) then it'd be possible to coexist with the zombies.... they had the zombies on chains while trying to implement this plan... seems the zombie resorted to their most rudimentary functions like the mail man chained to a mail box delivering the same letter over and over. the woman chained in a field continued to plow...and the wife of the man chained in the kitchen apparently continued to cook dinner...not very well but she still did it...

so, using this logic I would more than likely answer 911 in my undead state!  :D

Omg!  Girl get yourself to a dollar store and buy generics!!!  They can help a ton!  I can't take anything with "condone/codeine" makes me I'll and pass out within 20 minutes!

$ store is 45 miles south of here....  it'd be cheaper to go to costco... sadly I don't even have the $15 for the co pay to see the dr if that's what I wanted to do tomorrow...  :-\\    Thank god Friday is payday... I'm kinda hoping the pain just goes away on it's own...

I live in a small town where the population is under 3000. I can't quite see the parking lot of Dollar General (that used to be Ben Franklin) from where I am sitting right now because our maple tree leaves are in the way.

Going to be a busy day today. Gotta go to the printers to print up the program for my Dad's memorial service that is this Sunday. Then we have to hit the P.O. to mail some packages out that were sold on eBay (one was something of my Dad's.  :-\\ ) Then I have a hair appointment. That will be followed by going to check on our booth to see if we have had any sales in the last week. That will be followed by a trip to "The Barn" where the auctions are to check things out for tomorrow night's auction to see if we want to go or not. Then it is to the farm to pick up our weekly produce. After we get home, I have to start listing stuff on eBay.

For someone who is retired, I certainly do an awful lot of work.  :D ;D ;D ;D

Stepdaughter is getting sick of her life iin California, so her planned trip that was supposed to be a week-long visit in July just turned into an open-ended visit starting June 8th.  Which means that my hubby and I will turn into tornados to get this house clean and somewhat organized.  So, if anyone sees me wasting much time on FB, gently yell at me to not waste time on useless games and continue cleaning...  8-P ;D

will do!!! Try to start in 20 minute bursts...then take 10 minutes of distraction..the trick is to get the rhythm and start again after the first distraction break...and also to take one room at a time.... Once one room is done it's easier to feel motivated about the second room!

good luck!

It seems to have worked for me.. my ratio is more 20 minutes of work to 30 minutes of distraction but my apartment is way smaller than your house...tho I sense our work load may be similar  ;)

The best thing I did for myself was let me move crap.... ie...if I clean the bedroom and I have something that belongs in the the kitchen I go put it in the kitchen but I don't then start cleaning the kitchen. I set it down and go back into the bedroom to finish what I started...

after the bedroom is done I tackle the living room but, if I have something in the living room that goes in the bedroom I put that away right away because the bedroom is already clean. However, if I find something for the kitchen I use the same plan...place item in the kitchen and then go back and finish the living room... then I take a distraction break and then I work on the kitchen.

It also helps (me) if I put on something on the TV that I don't need to physically watch. I will put on talk shows or home buying shows and listen as I clean... sometimes I put on hoarders just so I know what I'm trying to avoid  ;D

Now stop reading this and go clean for 20 minutes!!! O0

precisely - I drive 10 miles either south or west and I hit 2 towns (pop 2,500 I think for both) and they both have dollar generals or New York Dollar Store (hispanic dollar store, that I can find some of the most random stuff).  If I drive 13 miles north, I have a town of 13,000 with various grocery and dollar general, family dollar, dollar tree, aldi's and again New York Dollar.  I love these places for generic meds (ibuprofen, acetominaphen, naproxen, benadryl, childrens pain meds, bandaids and stuff) they keep my "emergency kit well stocked"

I hate, HATE , HATTEEEEEE walmart and their prices are no better.  They are not uniform prices, 3 different location 3 different prices on diapers, formula etc...  I found the grocery store cheaper on many things.  I went to walmart the other day, as in the town 13 miles away, it is the only game in town (no k-mart, target, shopko).  But I refuse to buy groceries there, their produce sucks and prices are always higher in the canned goods than the local fairway.

not the walmart I shop at... maybe it's a location thing but the prices at the walmart in Oxnard are way better than any of the grocery stores in Santa Barbara but the only time I stop there is on my way back from LA because it makes no sense to drive 40 miles to save 40 cents or a buck or two on product.

I live very close to that store, but I have only set foot in it once (and that was to buy a birthday card in '03). Just about every time I go near it, there is always plenty of traffic there, and I sometimes go behind the building (the north end of which is occupied by Joann Fabrics, I think) in order to get out onto Gonzales Road.

Chick-Fil-a is a good idea ;)

My house is south of Gonzales Rd, and if I'm in the shopping center and want to go directly home, I sometimes go onto Rose and then down to the next signal after that... but if I wanna go home quicker I go down to Gonzales Rd, make a right (heading west) and then to the next signal, which is Snow Ave.

So anyway, this morning I went to meet with a networking group, called Contacts N Coffee; this was to help me learn about networking and how to do it. There were 20 other people there (all but one of whom I did not know), but I brought some of my business cards and handed them out; in return I got business cards from most of the 20 people who were there.

I just saw this.... did you talk to the people you didn't know? Did you play up your job skills?
How did you hear about it? Was it a public networking event or by invite only?  What kind of jobs do the people you met have? Or was everyone there also looking for work?

Which reminds me... maybe a little late but have you ever considered looking into Job Fairs at the local campuses? Usually around graduation time they have job fairs for the graduates but I think it's worth trying to attend, even if you're not a student, just to do more of that networking thing!

I did talk to these folks. I heard about it through someone I know locally (a friend); I have even mentioned this to my job coach, who has suggested that networking is a good way to find a job.

Most of the people there already had jobs, and were stating what their companies were about, and what they did. When my turn came for me to talk, I stated that I was "looking for a job" (which everyone understood), and that my first choice would be "something in data entry or a related field".

As for jobfairs, I did go to one at Oxnard College last year on Halloween, and most of the folks who attended were students. Even though I myself was not one, it still felt good to attend because I was able to talk to the various company representatives that were there, and hand each of them a copy of my resume. I'd gotten business cards from them and even emailed these people when I got home, thanking them "for taking the time to talk to me" about their company and what they do; this showed initiative. Most of them replied to me, saying that they'd keep my resume on file.

Now, seven months later, I am starting to network with others, and attending the Contacts-N-Coffee gathering feels like a step in the right direction.

The interview went quite well I think.

I got there at 9 and first thing was a tour of the school by the deputy head.  She teaches Elizabeth Latin so we were chatting a little bit about that as well as the different parts of the school.

Then I met the senior technician for a tour of the science building which was v brief because I did the full tour last year! and I also had a practical test.  There were some questions to answer and then I to build a circuit, remove some biological specomes from a jar into a dish, identify three pieces of kit (had no idea what one was at all  :-\\), talk about what equipment from a choice I would use to make a chemical solution and spot what wasn't there that was necessary and finally use the school website to find some information (apparently they once had a candidate who said she left all that stuff to her son!)

Then it was the formal interview with the Head and another senior member of staff with child protection responsibilities.  I always suck at choosing good examples to illustrate the skill they want  :-\\

Had the same problem with the interview with the head of science.  Last night I totally thought of a great team working example and then I forgot it and came out with something completely different!

Anyway the Head says I should hear something probably tomorrow, but definitely by the end of this week.

Went over "The Barn." There were a few items but we didn't feel like staying all night so we left some bids for tonight's auction. We will find out tomorrow whether we won or not.

A few errands we didn't get to so they will have to be done tomorrow-but the majority of them are DONE!!!

I managed to find two tops at two different stores in our little town.  :o :o :o So, at least I don't have to worry about what to wear this weekend. Now, the question is which one?  :-\\

Is there a zombie Apocalypse?
CONPLAN 8888 is an official, unclassified U.S. military document outlining what the military would do in the event of a zombie apocalypse -- and they're quite serious about it. "This plan was not actually designed as a joke," the document reads. During the summers of 2009 and 2010, military officials discovered, by accident, that drafting a zombie survival plan proved to be an effective training tool. "Because the plan was so ridiculous, our students not only enjoyed the lessons; they were able to explore basic concepts of plan and order development," the plan says.

Dancing Zombies are zombies that dance across the player's lawn, summoning four Backup Dancers. The original Dancing Zombie resembled Michael Jackson in his costume from the Thriller music video, even entering the lawn moonwalking, but it was changed in later versions to a 70's disco dancer. The new version resembles Disco Stu from The Simpsons. The Dancing Zombie is the ninth zombie encountered in Adventure Mode.
