Actually, it now shows Recent Topics... that is, introductory posts of newly-created threads. I first noticed this sometime last week.
Edit: Oh I see... the "Recent Posts" list on the homepage is what you're referring to.

In the Recent Post box, would it be better if the last post in a thread/topic was shown, and not each successive last post received as it does now?

maybe... no idea really. I just found a mod for it, so that's what I'm going with. I think the mod I removed used to do that, but the two mods didn't play well together and I wasn't motivated enough to referee that code fight.
