Subject: Apocalyptic DeZOMBIEr!

Written By: Dagwood on 11/30/12 at 7:22 am

How are you spending your last three weeks on earth?  And, does it happen all at once or start in Australia and work its way west?  Inquiring minds want to know. ;D

(Thanks, Henk, for the name) :D

How I read it is like this:  he wasn't talking about sami directly or taking a shot at her, but he just doesn't care for white rabbits, or zombies, just like many of us don't care about Decad....

Hope I'm right  :)

for some reason I don't find "How are you spending your last three weeks on earth? " to be very funny right now.  Not anyone's fault.

I'm not a zombie fan and I usually  say fried rabbit after someone says white rabbit.  I'd like to see something besides zombies for next year.

I don't have anything good to tell you so I'll just stop typing.

lol...  No worries, I teach high school remember!  I am used to immature forms of acting out!  No skin off my back.  The maturity level definitely shows and just proving it no matter where the comment was aimed!  (A child pouting comes to mind).  8)

I saw it and ignored it, nothing was directly aimed at anything.  Just a comment that was thrown out there to incite!  No surprises!

Moving on  8)

Did I cover everyone?  My turn now?

I was in a room with DENZEL FREAKING WASHINGTON!!!! 15 ft away for most of it.
Got as close as 2 ft away but they whisked him away before I could get a pic.

I did get a pic with Oscar winner Melissa Leo so that was awesome! And the actress who plays Denzel's love interest in Flight.  If you've seen it....Nicole is played by a Brit.

It was a great movie!

My interview seemed to go pretty well this morning. It only lasted 20 minutes, and it was a "panel interview", as two people were asking me questions. They said that I would be contacted by H.R. later this week for any further details. And if I get hired, I would likely start right after the first of the year and go through June. (It's a temporary position, btw.)

Q:  Denzel?  WOW!  It would have been hard for me not to jump on him.

I got a call for an interview on Thursday.  It has been so long since I have been on a job interview that I am freaking.  It seems weird to be freaked since my current job interviewing prospective employees is one of my duties. ;D

Hubby played the lotto yesterday and he won (although he didn't think so) but I carefully read the instruction online and checked and he won.  He is a 20-inaire.  Woo hoo.  ;D

We went to the casino this morning because we got bills paid and were waiting for our favorite breakfast place to open, and I won 25 dollars.  So I'm a 25-inaire.  ;D ;)  We keep this up and we'll be millionaires in no time.  ;)

Went to Contacts-N-Coffee this morning and told the group about my job interview; they were all pleased to hear about it and are hoping for me to get hired. And then I went to the library to do my volunteer work there; I also told my supervisor about it (and explained in detail that that was the reason I wasn't there yesterday...but I had called the library on Monday morning earlier to explain, too) and he was pleased.

Father in law moves on today to my hubby's niece's place in Virginia.  She just had her second baby, and that was more or less the purpose of his visit, to meet the newest great grandchild.  Sounds horrible, but I can't say I'm sorry he's moving on in his travels.  I guess I'm not the gracious host, nor do I pretend to be very often.  Guess I'm just happy in my own little world with no aspirations of being the hostess with the most-est.  Not feeling particularly social at this time of year anyway.

I did get some cards done and a mini Christmas tree up this week.  We'll see if I actually get any more done this week.  Just feel really scattered.

Cancelled my interview.  I did some more research into the company and the job pays $2 an hour less than what I make now.  The whole point of a new job is to be able to afford things like insurance.  Doesn't work when you have to take a pay cut.

Oh well, I will keep looking.

That said, maybe I should wait till then if I don't hear anything. (I was gonna wait till Monday, but... now I know.)

Of course, when I do get contacted, I'll have to go there and sign a few forms, get a background check, and other important things.

We had a leak in our home on Sunday morning, so we contacted two different plumbers. The first one came over yesterday and figured that a wall might need to be opened up to fix the problem, but he didn't do any work because my mom had to leave and go to work, and I had somewhere to go too. The second one came over this morning while my mom was home and I was away at Contacts-N-Coffee (later to the library), and he found the source of the problem; he fixed it up without having to open up any walls.

Tomorrow we get delivered... a refrigerator!!!  Hooray!  We've been using a small 3-foot tall beer fridge for about a year and a half, while making do with the old freezer (the fridge part died altogether, but the freezer somewhat worked up until a few days ago.)
Since we didn't have any car repairs this month (knock on wood) we were able to throw the usual car repair expense towards a fridge.

I have to creatively rearrange the bookcases and sewing machine and video rack in the hallway so that we can get the delivery men through there to the kitchen with my new fridge.

Two days ago hubby and I were driving down a 4-lane road when we had to stop because our lane was completely blocked by a muffler and tailpipe.  Since it's a busy roadway, hubby stopped (no place to pull off on the side of the road) and put our flashers on to warn traffic behind us that we had trouble.  He then hurried out to move the muffler.  The guy behind us swerved around us and was rubber-necking at what was going on with us, and he slammed into the car ahead of him.  ::)  Hubby was dodging traffic to walk around to move the muffler off of the road, reached down and realized (too late) that the muffler had just fallen off the car and was incredibly hot.  He burned his thumb, index finger and the webbing between the two pretty badly.  It's blistered up.  He had first aid training in the Navy so he was able to cool off the burn so that it didn't get worse.  He drove himself to the local drug store and bought some burn medicine.  It's looking better, but still blistered.  :\'(

Yay! A real fridge!
Sorry your hubby got hurt trying to do a good deed. Muffler really must have fallen off minutes before, for it to be still that hot.

Yay, new refridge. I am trying to convince Carlos that we need a new one-I even have one picked out and I plan on buying it myself. But, he doesn't think that we need one. I keep telling him that ours is going to die any moment. He doesn't believe it. And the seal around the doors aren't right so they don't close right sometimes. The drawer is broken so it doesn't fit in right. This morning it was making some strange noise. And it also has a lot of scientific experiments in it-but that is not the refridge's fault.  :-[ :D ;D ;D ;D

I think Carlos wants to wait until it totally dies and then we are going to have a mess on our hands. I'm almost to the point that I hope it does die just so I can say, "I told you so."  :D :D ;D ;D ;D

BTW, sorry about Hubby's hand.

Nearly finished work for the holidays.

Went out for dinner on Monday with the other technicians.  Tried a new (to me) place in town that was very nice.

went out last night for dinner with the morris dancers because our usual practice room was in use.  A good Indian restaurant in town. quite reasonably priced.

And today was the school Christmas lunch.  Turkey and trimmings followed by christmas pud.  Then going around the labs and the school finding and returning lost property.  Still don't know who the flute belongs to.

tomorrow we do the final clear up and get ready for the first day back.  then it's the staff pantomime.  School finishes at lunchtime, so the girls go into town and the staff have lunchtime nibbles (and a glass or two)

James still has one more week of school

Still have alot to do for Christmas, probably won't get around to doing most of it, but hope to do some more.  It's always hard because I have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and even though I know this, I always seem to put off doing stuff until the last moment.  This year I am more scattered then ever.  I've lost my Christmas cards three times this year.  I've bought two sets, and put them somewhere, found the originals, put them somewhere.  I did manage to get a few out, and I've been carrying around some in my purse for about a week.  Keep forgetting to send them out.  I did put up a small 1 foot tree when my father-in-law was here, but it kept falling over, so I guess I didn't have the bottom weighted down enough.  I took it down because the lights on it don't work anyway.  I have a slightly larger tree, (about 3 feet tall) in a box in the bedroom, just haven't felt like dragging it downstairs.
I have some cards in my purse to do when I have to wait for something, like waiting for a meal or waiting to pick up hubby from somewhere.  It seems to be the only way for me to get it done.  Otherwise, I procrastinate and nothing gets done at home.

Tomorrow the place that I go to play trivia, is having a "Name that tune" Christmas edition, so I'm hoping to make it there to play.

Great party last night. The place looked great. Everyone was remarking how they could use the barn as a banquet hall and rent it out for weddings & parties in between auctions. The food was REALLY YUMMY and I ate A LOT!!!! Carlos brought a batch of pina coladas in a maple syrup jug.  :D ;D ;D ;D  He did that in case there were some left over when we wanted to leave and it wouldn't matter if we left it there. It was funny because everyone thought we were drinking syrup until they realized. We offered it to people but the only one who accepted was our host. He knows about my husband's pina coladas which he has had a few times before at our Spring Fling barbecues. When we left, there was still a bunch left for him to enjoy-or anyone else who wanted them.

Tonight-a party at the college. This is the first Christmas party they have had in several years.

Hooray... Found one set of cards,  but I was rushing to get out of the house at the time, so I stuck them in my purse and not my address book.  (Always something.)  So I did manage to get out in the mail last night a few more cards.  There is hope.  ;D

Overseas cards may arrive in May, but that isn't anything new, One year I sent to Henk (on time/early even) and it didn't get to him until months later.  ??? ;D

Had a good time at the Name that tune last night at the bar.  It was a really long game though.  It ran from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. and even though I did not win (you could get extra points if you got up in front of the whole bar and danced to the music...which I'm never going to do.)  I did go home with a $10 gift card, a "book" of Life Savers rolls, and 2 cookies.  I also got offered a couple of shots of alcohol, but I politely refused them since I do not drink anymore, partially because I take insulin (which you are discouraged from drinking while using that) AND for the basic reason that I knew I'd be driving to pick up hubby after the trivia game.  I WILL not drink and drive. Period.

Inside. The 12 inch TV screen might freeze outside, or get eaten by the dozens of polar bears roaming around.  We use hundreds of paper clips (stolen from luxury American "Dollar stores") and make an antenna out of them.  They also make great hooks for ice fishing.

I want to say it's at least two levels below black... but I never got that high. I took karate lessons ~20 years ago but struggled in purple; in addition, after the 1994 earthquake I couldn't continue because our lives had gotten turned upside-down and we were "living" far away from home. However, I do remember some of the things I learned. (And their system did not have a brown belt, for whatever reason I did not know.)

The establishment that I went to, certainly did. White was the beginner level, then yellow (referred to as "gold"), then purple, then blue, green, red, black. (I just remembered.) The purple through red levels each had two sublevels; a stripe of tape would be placed around the edge of the belt to indicate the second, or upper, sub-level.

I still wonder who'll stop the rain.  The no good things I've been up to lately are reading the third book of The Hunger Games and trying to do stuff with the beads I have.  I finished a wire neckless today, but you're going to have to get me to take it of my neck before I can take a picture of it.

This morning I went to my last Contacts-N-Coffee networking meeting for this year, and then to the library for the last time this year. (Next Monday and Tuesday are Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, respectively; the place will be closed, and those are the days I volunteer.) I was there for 2 1/2 hours instead of the usual 2 hours; I was putting in more time because I know I won't be there next week; plus, I had a project to do in the back room that kept me busy the whole time.

Which is crazy!  Say you moved area and joined a new club and said you were a red belt.  In James' school you'd be practically a beginner, and in the one nally went to you'd be an expert.  :-\\

Went Christmas shopping yesterday.  Found a couple of cool gifts, but still nothing for Dai's mum or dad's friend Margaret.  And just remembered we haven't got anything for Dai's mum's friend Tom. Eek!

Today spent on hour or so at the bank sorting out various savings/investment accounts.  Should have taken much less than that, but it was a new advisor and apparently that meant she had to check whether our names and DOB etc had changed  :-\\

Then we went to see James at a technology competition he was doing as part of the school team.  It was an all day thing, they were in 5th place when we left.  The school had won this competition previously, but this year there were pupils from schools in the next age category competing as well.

Dai's mum arrives tomorrow so I've just finished blasting round with the vacuum cleaner upstairs.

I actually have a bit o' shopping left to do. I did some of it this past Monday, and came across an item that I think would make a good gift... but I didn't have enough cash to buy it. Gonna try to get it today or tomorrow.

Same thing with my mom, dad, and brother and my hubby for that matter.  I bought my mom a nice shirt and a pair of slippers (I guess it's a tradition) (I've bought her slippers almost every year for at least ten years) (That's alot of slippers) (but she seems to enjoy them, and one year that I didn't buy them she seem disappointed.)

For my dad, I bought a clock at a thrift store, he used to like working on them. Most clocks I see these days are operated on electric, but my dad likes the clocks with the spring/wind-up inner workings.  I was lucky to find one.

My brother, I have no idea.  And my hubby, I was going to buy him a couple things, but he beat me to it and bought them himself.  He keeps asking me what I want, but I have no idea.  I don't need anything.  I guess just spending time with each other is enough for me.  Good thing we get along.  ;D

they will be different flowers, but three of them and on a wire.  I'm doing all my necklaces in wire because I just go cross eyed trying to put them on.  Now I can just let the wire wrap around me.  I think I'll take a picture of a necklace I once made with string and a bracelet I did.

I was talking to someone yesterday about the "ending" of the world (for the record I'm no doomsday enthusiast....I just REALLY like zombies  :D ) and he was talking about how the end of the world isn't a literal translation. It meant the end of the bad - the end of negativity and hate and hurt etc

2012 was a pretty horrible year for me. And I can't think of too many people who had a good 2012.

Think about it personally and globally- if the guy I was talking to was right I would welcome waking today and finally being out if this dark cloud that is 2012.....time will tell.

I walk 3.5 miles every other day regardless of weather or holidays. Today is a walk day so out the door
I went. Now this is going to sound corny but for the entire 45 minutes of my walk it was snowing. It was
a beautiful sight seeing all the kids lined up on the street waiting for the fire truck with Santa to go by. The
Christmas lights reflecting off a blanket of snow. The hustle and bustle on the streets with people going in
and out of houses. It was a real postcard moment.

Then I got home, a house full of people and a mountain of unassembled toys, I wanted to turn around.
It is only a postcard moment when the hustle and bustle is happening to someone else.

we have one in training and in the process of hiring one or two more...depending on how well they did on the test this past weekend.

sadly this one I did to myself. I wasn't paying attention when I signed up for the overtime...and managed to schedule myself for 7 days this week (and I just learned) 5 days next.  I already have pleas out for help since I can't work 12 days in a row.

The 14 hrs today and 14 hrs on the first I don't mind too much.  I get food, I don't have to be all depressed alone at home and I get paid time and half, earn 8 hrs of holiday pay and 4 hrs of OT in hours because of the over 40 hr work week. . .    I was just mad last night because I honestly don't remember signing up to work Xmas eve, I was an hour late for work and I realized that put me at 7 days in a row (instead of the 6 I thought I was working)

well Merry Christmas  Mine just seems like a regular not real marry day and it's not bright as usual.  I moved a small piece of furnature, a little sorting and moving might be what I do today.  One present to open so I'll see what it is.  Looks like a book.

This is either a public service announcement or me just being paranoid but be mindful about your trash.
After Christmas packaging in the trash is an advertisement of what is in the house, out there for all to see.

My work will be cut out for me, I got Rosetta Stone. I am going to try to learn a new language. Hopefully I
will stick to it and soon I will be able to speak Deutsch. My wife and kids gave me level 1 German.

My present was a state quarter thing.  Last time I got one, I collected all the quarters and then decided to spend them.  If they were silver dollars or something else I'd collect it.  I did some laundry today and I've been working with my necklaces to put some soft stuff over the ends of the wire and putting some magnetic beeds to close the wire when I put it around my neck.  Now if I want to wear them I don't have to worry about them cutting my neck up.

It happened overnight and most of today.  Although we didn't really get much, considering that some areas like Cincinnati and Indianapolis (hope Stepchan is ok) got like 5 to 9 inches (12.7  to 22.9 centimeters for you metric folk) of snow overnight.  :o

We're starting to get that storm right now, although our snowfall is expected to be 10 to 15 cms (or 4 to 6 inches) of the white stuff. Niagara falls might get 25 cms.

So, yesterday I was contacted via phone (from a person I know in this Contacts-N-Coffee group that I've been part of for the last 7 months) about a paid position for entering information about products sold at a small toy shop in downtown Ventura. So this morning I drove to this place, and learned how to use an application program that was new to me, for entering this info. Basically, there were several months of handwritten lists of products sold each day, complete with their code numbers, names, and prices, and how many were sold on each day. So I got through about 2 weeks' worth of them in about 3 hours' time.! The person who contacted me, owns this shop and instructed me what to do. She also paid me when I was finished for the day, and arranged to have me come back sometime (possibly next week) to continue this project, and sent home an application form with me to complete and bring back when I return to this place.

Yes, and this morning I will need to return the completed application to this person, who is the owner of the shop. That is, if she's there today. I know that the place has been closed for business all week due to the Christmas/New Years break, so that the owner could work on the year-end inventory and things of that nature.

I second this post.  Well done on the job so far Jeff.  Did you ever call the court back to find out how your interview went?

can't recall when I last posted here.  Anyway, we took Dai's mum home today.  We've had visitors every day since Christmas day, so we've been quite busy.  Tomorrow we go away to North Wales until New Year's Day.  We will spend the time with a crowd of friends, walking during the day, practicing and presenting Ashputtel (sort of Cinderella) and playing table tennis in the evenings.  Also toying with learning a Bob Dylan song to teach everyone else.  And on Tuesday we'll be either helping or running in a fell race up part of Snowdon mountain.

I was thinking of participating in the Polar Bear Club Plunge here in Pittsburgh on New Years Day morning.  Basically, you jump into the river at 9:30 the morning of New Years Day.  I've always wanted to do it.  This year I'm fighting a cold (and have been for a little while) so it probably isn't the smartest thing to do.  I might talk myself out of it by then, but I hope not.  I figure that if you start out your year doing this crazy thing, well it'll all get better from there.  ;D

And it ends with a bang.  My boss pulled me aside and told me that I don't seem to want to follow his idea of how the company should run.  Because, I dared to ask if my people could go home early.  We are super slow and will probably end up waiting without work on Wednesday until our big job hits.  It's a freaking holiday,  but I guess that is too much to ask.

I did use it to get some things off my chest.  I even told him a lot of my problem is that I have been doing this job for 17 years, longer than he has been with the company.  It feels to me like he is coming and and telling me how to do my job.  I mentioned not feeling appreciated and that it has been this way for a while.  I don't know if it will help, but I hope it opens his eyes a little.  I love my job, but I would like to feel like my opinion matters.  I don't feel that.

Oh well, Wednesday starts a new year at work and I will just keep my opinions to myself.  I am looking for another job but don't want to get my butt fired before I get one. ;D

I was going to tell you, with tomorrow being a holiday she probably wouldn't call today.

A little unsolicited advise Jeff:  If she doesn't call on Thursday Jeff, wait until Friday say 1pm (or even Monday) before you call her again. It's good to be eager but if you hold her to too strict a schedule she my find it a nuisance....  :(

It's ok; I'm just going to be patient with this; take it one step at a time.

If you don't hear from them by next week you've waited long enough so you could call...
