Got a new controller for the Wii and Netflix back on, so the better half is happy. Ordered our e-cig refill bottles yesterday, hopefully they will last till the end of the month. Finished trimming out the new wall oven I installed last month. Mom's back to work at the shop, her hair is growing back and she's feeling well.

Thanks Jeff. As it happened, I didn't play it in the end. I did something very special. I downloaded a load of old nostalgia stuff from Youtube from the 1980s. There was a kid's show I used to watch called 'Pullover' when I was very little. I just saw an episode yesterday for the first time in probably 30 years. It caused an emotional lump in my throat as my mom knitted me one of those when I was little.  :)

More good news for me. I checked the scales today at the gym and, since December last year, I have lost a stone and a half (21lbs). My gut has gone and I feel so much better about myself.  8)

Just got back from a chinese buffet.  I ate an octopus.  It was different, to say the least.  It wasn't awful, but I probably won't do it again.  The head was kind of flavorless, all the flavor was in the tentacles.  I can't believe I just said that...

I've eaten octopus before. The tentacles are good, a little chewy though.

Went to Barnes & Noble with my family this afternoon; they were looking for some travel books, in preparation for a trip they're taking to Italy in October. I didn't need anything there, but we were just going there after eating a nice lunch meal out. So I browsed around anyway...

...and came across an old friend of mine, who happens to work at this B&N location. (She's actually younger than me, but still.) The last time I had seen her, incidentally, was 2 years ago to the day... at the same restaurant we'd just come from (Eggs N Things)! Anyway, she was happy to see me (and vice-a-versa), and asked what was new with me. So I talked to her for a bit; apparently she's been working at this location for the past 7 years, as she was working there part-time while also going to school. (I'd met her at Cal State Northridge.) When we were done talking she said: "Anyway, I gotta get back to work now, it was nice talkin' to you again, take care!" :)

I went to a Chinese buffet about a year ago and also had either octopus or squid (it was some type of cold salad) and it was alright... not my favorite thing on the buffet.  Probably won't have it anymore.

I'll report back  my mom didn;t even mention camp in the plans, but seeing my uncle to pick up some pictures and then another relative who seems that their time may be up soon, ( San Diego) maybe some shopping if there is time.  Then stop on the way back in Sacramento for a doctor appointment.  I'll see.

This time next week, God Willing, I should be back home and my holiday will be over.

I saw my little sister Jade and my five year old niece Star today. She has so much energy and I entertained her non-stop. She used me as a climbing frame as I was throwing her about all over the place and she loves it. I would be exhausted if I wasn't going to the gym, lol.

I bought my sister a DVD player and Star and I watched SpongeBob Squarepants together snuggled in a blanket. I felt a little tug in my heart because Star said when I was about to leave; "I'm going to miss you Uncle Rob".

I'll see her soon.  :)

I think the original steeple was constructed differently, but damaged in the 1994 earthquake... so when the new one was going up, I thought something was screwy about the design.

We decided that we like this one better because of a few reasons:

1. It is closer.
2. Less crowded. (Though we don't know how it will be on the weekend.)
3. Cheaper.
4. There is a fence around the pool so big nastys can't get in (like jelly fish that I have seen at the other beach).
5. Less sand that gets EVERYWHERE.


After the beach, we are going to go to SIL's place to shower and then we are going out to eat.

With the capacity of media cards and the speed of the cameras my friend and I use its easy to overshoot. Bit that we are certain to get a few good shots.

I'm sure it will. 8) I leave on the 6th of April and will be gone for a week. Not too far away now.

Busy day today. It starts off with the dreaded laundry. I really needed to do it because I was running out of clothes. I only brought a small amount with me. Just came home from the store.  When we walked out, the smell that hit was awful.  The wind was blowing in off the Great Salt Lake and it smelled like a gigantic litter box.  Gag

okay  No camp this time, I just got confused because it was talked about and the forms sent.  This was just mom and I seeing my old aunt Nelly and going to an appointment at the City Of Hope.  On the first day,  We stopped somewhere at an Applebees and had dinner with my uncle Mel.  We then went to his house and picked up a couple of paintings.  The second day, we checked in at Old Town San Diego.  We visited Nelly and did some shopping.  We visited Nelly again  and then drove to Arcadia.  We had decided with the weather like it was that we would stay an extra night instead of trying to drive in the night, and went to walk around the mall for a while.  This morning, we made it back at about 4:20.

I got a few seeds from a beed store and some swamp milkweed seeds from a nursery in Arcadia.  My appointment went well.  One thing they want me to do is increase my exercise from 30 minutes a day to an hour.

When I talked to him, he said that he hadn't slept for 4 days thanks to the coffee.  ;D ;D ;D  We are now working on our supply for Carlos when we get home.

No, we don't have a fish market.  The Great Salt Lake is a very salty body of water, even more than the ocean.  And it stinks to high heaven.  It is very stagnant and the smell last night reminded me of a dirty litter box.

Imagine a huge, shallow body of water that water flows into but not out of.  There used to be a huge lake, Lake Bonneville, it covered the entire valley almost to the tops of the mountains.  All the salt from that lake is concentrated into the little lake.  It is so salty, only brine shrimp can survive.

Afterwards, Carlos wanted to take the scenic route home-and that we did-through the mountains on narrow, winding curving roads. And then you have these idiots coming around the corners and half the time it seems like they were going to hit us. I really can't believe that there are so many houses built on cliffs. Their backyards are a steep cliff. We did get lost but we managed to find our way back. We were basically right smack in the middle of the island. We were all so happy to get out of the mountains and back on straight roads. Luckily we found our way back before the sun went down. It would have been a bitch to be on those roads in the dark.

Had to borrow SIL's suitcase because we got so much crap stuff, we can't fit it into our two small ones. (We are going to invest in a new luggage set since the set that we have, 1. the big one got tore up by USAir years ago, 2. the middle one had a leg broken off by JetBlue (this trip) 3. and the middle one & small one just aren't big enough for us.

Not done packing yet because Hubby wanted to go to the beach. Then we stayed at SIL for dinner. Carlos' & SIL's cousin was there-so it was a nice visit. But, I have sunburned on my face and I am VERY tired. Have to get up fairly early to do TWO loads of laundry & finish packing. I'm hoping to be ready to go by noon or shortly there after. At least we don't have to RUSH but SIL will be driving us to San Juan and she needs to get back home at a decent time. But, she did say that is going to bring an over-night bag just in case.


As much as I am looking forward to getting home, I'm gonna miss SIL.  :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'(  She is the BEST SIL that ANYONE could EVER have. I am truly blessed to have her-not only as my SIL but also my friend.

So I finally started my new trucking job and I'm back out on the road again. Basically I do trips back and forth between Kansas City and the West Coast.  I was a little apprehensive about getting back out here and I'm a little rusty but so far I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would.

I'll primarily be taking I-40 in and out of California,  although this last week they ran me down to Tucson and so I took I-10 into LA.

I have, however, taken all the routes you mentioned across their respective mountain passes, because I've been everywhere, man. ;)

Carlos knew that I wanted to get home last night so we didn't stay with the kids when we got off the plane. It was earlier enough and Carlos was pretty much awake to make the drive. (Of course the nap he took on the plane helped.  ;) )

My shoulders are KILLING me because of carrying our sh!t luggage around. I have had two kitties all over me since we got home. They each take turns on my lap. Electra didn't let me sleep last night. She was talking up a storm-then decided to lay down on my head. Was walking all over me, etc. (See, my cats walk all over me.  :D ;D ;D ;D) And they managed to get kitty litter EVERYWHERE!!! I swept some of it up last night so we didn't have to walk on kitty litter but our cleaning lady is going to be so nice and come by this afternoon for us.


Oh Aunty Em, there is no place like home.

I've been here about a month and I am still trying to find room to put things away and figure out what artwork we want on the wall.  Meanwhile my oldest cat (who just turned 10 on Friday) has been diagnosed with diabetes.  She meows at either my husband or I CONSTANTLY as if she is hungry.  Thankfully she only has to have one shot of insulin a day (and it happens to be the same insulin that I take) so we are sharing insulin (which helps with the cost.)  :) 
The dull and dreary winter days have taken toll on my depression.  I cannot wait until sunnier days.  Feel so blah.

We received our income tax refund yesterday. I had another job interview yesterday (this one was over the phone).

Spent the last couple of days in London with some of the older girls in school.  Last year they won a regional engineering competition for their design of a temporary manhole cover.  The national final was taking place on Thursday and Friday.  Unfortunately they didn't win any further prizes, but they had a great time nevertheless.  Stayed in a nice hotel and all accomodation and food was paid for.

We received our income tax refund yesterday. I had another job interview yesterday (this one was over the phone).

On the subject of potential jobs, I am still lookin' for one... and am getting all the help I can get.

Taking vacay for spring break with the kiddos.  :) Plan to be as lazy as i can since it is a staycation.

Today is Granddaughter #4's 4th birthday. Also got to see my youngest step-daughter's new house. Still needs a lot of work but they have put a lot of work into it already. Has A LOT of potential. They really got themselves a diamond in the rough. After all the guests went home, we took the kids out to dinner. Step-Daughter, Step-Son, Daughter-in-law, and 4 of the grandkids. It really was a GREAT time.

Had a lunch with some friends from church.  We get together every month for birthdays.  This year we have decided to do something called "gift your birthday".  Instead of buying gifts for each other, we donate money to charities.  Today we donated to the prison ministry and Hands and Feet, which goes to the park by the homeless shelter and feeds and supplies the homeless with blankets, shoes, gloves, socks, hats, etc.    I think it is a great idea.  We don't need more stuff.  Why not give the $$ we would spend on stuff to those who really need it.

I didn't think of it.  There is a group of us and one of the other ladies came up with the idea.  The rest of us thought it was a good idea. :)

Sounds like fun. Also it's great that you donate to a ministry that collects clothing items and other supplies for the homeless. In fact, we periodically do something similar with our old clothing items.

This is the next part of the "recruiting" process, as they call it. Last month I had made an application for the position of 'Court Processing Assistant'...and yesterday they finally notified me of the exam I'll need to take. (So I signed into the system and confirmed that I would be there to take it next week.)
And this morning, at my networking meeting, I told this to everyone there and they were pleased.

Finally saw the 1 minute commercial my great friend of mine is in. It's regarding donating blood, he has Aplastic anemia. In fact the whole 1 minute add is about he and his family.  I even found it on youtube. A very touching and heartwarming ad.

With two weeks left until I go with my family on our next cruise, I have been looking over my preliminary list of supplies/clothing items and trying to figure out what I may still need to buy. Spent a little time doing that today, as well as various tasks around the house.

Visited a couple of distant relatives today; they were in town this weekend and we spent a couple hours with them. Then we took my grandma out for dinner.

Next week for Easter Sunday, we will be taking my grandma out for brunch; this has become a tradition for the past ten years. More info later.

Had a busy day volunteering at the library today. I put in some extra time because the library will be closed next Monday for Cesar Chavez Day. (Chavez's actual birthday is on the 31st, which of course falls on a Sunday this year, which is why it is being observed the next day.)

I  had an appointment in Sacramento.  No that that's done, I really enjoyed camp.  When I come back, I'd like to do some skits.  I was looking at parodies I had written in the past and have two with a magic trick in them and I have a couple of cute ones, but I think I need to write some new ones and I started thinking of songs the audience might be able to participate in like the Banana Boat song or What did I Say.  I can see if anyone wants to repeat back.  Let me know if you got some more songs and or ideas.  My audience is children, older kids, and their parents.  This is why I'd like to do a trick or something if I'm going to use older songs.

This is the kind of thing I'm looking for, now lets see how many songs I know that do this.

I'm 99% sure the test measures your general aptitude.
It will contain basic English and math skills.  Can you read a paragraph and answer comprehension based questions. Can you tell time? Can you add and subtract?

Can you follow direction?

Unless you are one of those people who have test anxiety and fail test despite their intelligence you should do very well.


But just in case I'm wrong I hope you researched what a court processing asst does. :)

I don't know , but I got a lot of ideas for doing things if I don't and I can write my own song if I need to.  I ought to look and see if the old Winnie the Pooh songs and stuff like that are still used these days.  I have a parody of Be Our Guest  that is I'm Your Jest.  I have the jester outfit in my picture still and thought that would be a good way to introduce myself if we are going to be in the dark at a camp fire.  Just the first two verses or something maybe, not all of it.

In addition, I had received an email from them last week, announcing the date/time for the test. I probably mentioned it on here last week too.

I'm patting myself on the back right now.  My mom was talking how I don't participate in this or that and such that I do need to improve in some areas and first she was telling me that she's not treating me like I'm 5 then as she was giving me more examples, she said that's why I treat you like you're 5.  She then gave me one more example.  After camp we had stopped at a nursery and I was looking in the direction of the trees.  Mom said " those are trees"  I slowly turned around and responded  " you're kidding", Dad told my mom to go back to the car.  She says now that she was just trying to tell me that we don't have much time and I just got all mad for no reason.  I asked her why couldn't you say we don't have much time instead of saying what you did?.  She told me because she was tired and also that I was looking at trees therefore she had to talk about trees so my brain would be on the same subject. 

There's stuff for me to work on, but my mom has a communication problem if nothing else.

Thank you...and at the exact moment you made that post, I was just getting finished with the exam. I think I did pretty well on it, for the most part.
Not sure when I'd be finding out the results of it, but I'm sure it will take at least a week or so to process all the exams.

It was all multiple choice questions, btw. I had to select the best answer. I answered all 100 of them, then took time to look 'em over and make any changes if necessary.

Today had some busy times for me (at home), but other than that, nothing eventful going on. :-\\

I probably won't go anywhere today, but my mom has to, with it being Good Friday. Last night (Holy Thursday) and today she has been involved in the Holy Thursday and Good Friday services, as she is a church musician. (In fact, there's a service going on pretty soon, but I don't need to be there.)

When I was in high school, I was in choir. We sang the Hallelujah Chorus from that. It was one of the 3 pieces we preformed at NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) for ratings. We scored an A and we all got medals (still have mine somewhere). Highest rating was A+. We were DAMN GOOOOODDDDDD!!!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I had a nice time today. Went to church this morning, and then we all went out for brunch at this family-owned Italian restaurant that always serves a great brunch on Easter Sunday. (It has been a tradition for us to do this.) My grandma was with us (we picked her up yesterday), so then we took her to see my great-aunt who is in an assisted-living facility. Spent some time over there, and now we're back home.

We went to an Indian food buffet yesterday for Easter.  It was good (but the spices were bothering us as the day went on.)  I would like to go back sometime but not until my stomach is in better sorts.

There was one across the street from the hotel we stayed at in Philly (a couple of doors down from Applebees). It was REALLY YUMMY!!! The chef didn't make the food too spicy because he knows that us Americans are wimps when it comes to spices.  ;) :D ;D ;D ;D  If we ever get back to Philly-that is definitely a place I would eat again.

For the last ten years it has been a tradition for my family and I to do that; best of all, we avoid having to cook anything and be busy ourselves with those duties. And the place we go to always serves great food.
