Next weekend I go on a week-long cruise, so I will be offline all next week. In addition, Tuesday of that week is my dad's 60th birthday, so we'll be celebrating it on the ship. Also, sometime this month I will hopefully hear about my results from the testing I took last week for the Court Processing job.

I hope so too. I feel I did well on that exam, for the most part. I'm anticipating that it'll take a while to process all the exams, as there were about 40 or 50 people who took it. Then the H.R. people will probably narrow it down to a few candidates, depending on how well the applicants did.

I've returned to the 00s after dealing with some personal stuff, I'm still reeling from said personal issues, but will be on & off site for the foreseeable future.

I do intend to post my urban explorations of an abandoned baseball stadium and abandoned college annex in the board for places that are closed down or no longer exist.

Personal issues suck and are so heavy to bear at times. This is a good place to get away from it all.

Nice to know people were thinking about me. I am surrounded by dunces, druggies, silly bubbly people (who creep me out to no end) and stuck-up old people in my apartment complex, I am pretty much alone IRL, and am trying to meet some new people through Craigslist personal ads since my family won't do a thing to introduce me to people.

But the good news is that I work unofficially for my diecast car dealer and helped set up this booth at the 2013 Eugene Roadster Show:

Decluttering (in other words, moving stuff where it can't be seen. lol) Have to run an errand, too (one I SHOULD have taken care of on Wednesday but I didn't think of it when we were in town.  ::) ). But the place is looking really nice so if my sister comes by, I won't be TOO embarrassed (unless she looks in those places where I shoved all the stuff that can't be seen.  :D ;D ;D ;D )

Kids (and me!) have been off school for Easter.  James starts back on Monday, and Elizabeth and I have one more week.  Getting frustrated at Elizabeth and her friends inability to organise getting together.  She went to a friends house on Tuesday and I reminded her to organise something for next week.  when she came back I asked what the plans were and she said that they didn't set a day!

Next week I'm getting various stuff done like gas boiler servicing, carpets cleaned and my hair cut.  We also plan to start decorating the lounge

You probably left for your trip already, nally, but I hope (I'm sure) you'll have a fantastic time.

There has been some nice weather lately (after all the snow and gloom) so we've been spending alot of time outdoors.  I am trying to combat my Seasonal Affective Disorder.  Hubby had plans with his friends today so he took the car and will be gone until late this evening; so I am just hanging out with the cats in our apartment.  I should be putting stuff away but we are all napping on our couch!

Sounds exciting! No stiffs or fires here, but in the last hour or so I heard two neighbors fighting over marijuana and lighters, then after a coat and a case of beer, right outside my front door, and thought to myself "white trash is as white trash does". I am SOOOO sore today (and tired)-but it is good. I danced the night away. There were a lot of times when I was the only one dancing-but I didn't care. The DJ had a few lottery tickets as prizes for people who "name that tune" or "name that artist/group." I won one for name The Box Tops who sang "The Letter." Charlie won one for naming the year & artist. (I think it was Elvis, 1957.) I haven't scratched it yet so it could be a winner.

When we danced the Hora, I was surprised that EVERYONE got up to dance it-even the people who don't dance. But, the dance floor was a bit small for the crowd. We did have an inner circle but it was still crowded-but fun anyway. I had hope to dance longer but everyone wimped out. Most people left around 9. The last people left about 10ish or so. After the last people left, Charlie & I had our last dance of the night-to OUR song (for the second time of the evening) before the DJ packed it up. But the food was good, the wine was good, the music was good, and the company was GREAT!!!! (Even though there were many who couldn't attend).

I am sorry that is over.  :\'( :\'( :\'(

Wow.  Sounds like you had a rough shift. :(

Two rough nites in a row. It's this annual thing students try to put on that we try to shut down. Used to be a quiet fun gathering around the engineering students friendly competition.  A few years ago the rest of campus caught wind and decided to make it yet another reason to get drunk and stupid all day long.  It started at 10am we closed the beaches (as we have the last few years but the people kept coming and took the party to the streets.  ::)

As a result the county was slammed with excessive calls for service.
The hospitals were over run with drunk patients
Normal citizens were delayed or denied assistance because all agencies were consumed by the activities near campus.  Three times a year I hate UCSB students and their out of town friends. This weekend was one of them
Halloween is another. Then we have this outdoor concert in May called Extravaganza.

The joys of a college town. ::)

My nature is to go out, enjoy yourself instead of being cooped up in the house on the computer most of the time.

I don't know where TF the gripe thread is.  Anyway, the cable to my gas cap cover finally sh*t the bed and died.  So there I am with not much gas in my tank and a busted cable, so I went to College Street motors because they're open on a Saturday afternoon.  First of all you open the door right on top of the cash register at that place.  And there's the troglodyte counting his dough.  I wait for him to finish counting his dough, and he stares at me like I'm from outer space.  He follows me over to my car grumbling under his breath like Paw Bear what's his name from the cartoons.  He's like, "See, you're gonna hafta take it to a body shop.  Then he galumphs-galumphs back to his little office.

Why is it we're all expected to be soooo polite and yet auto mechanics think it's their mother-effing god-given-right to be sooooo rude?

I mean, I have enough gas to make it until Monday and my mechanic can look at it.  If he tells me I need a body shop he's FOS because it's just a busted gas cap cover cable.

And I definitely am not going back to Mr. Rape-Scene-from-Deliverance cockeyed hillbilly again.  That's for sh*tsure!!!

Okay, it's fine if you don't have the part.  At least have the goddam courtesy to pull your knuckles off the floor when I talk to you!!!  And did anybody tell you when they look at you your eyes say "Do I kill it or **** it?"

>:(

The guy was being a jerk.  In a case like that there should be a manual over ride and he should know it.  If he doesn't then it isn't a place you should be patronizing.  Go online and type in the kind of car then gas fill cable over ride or something like that and I would bet something will pop up to tell you what to do.

p.s. in a worthwhile establishment a decent mechanic would have shown you how to get to the over ride, you would have tipped him 5 or 10, and made an appointment to have it fixed.

This week is Jakes last week of school.  He will be 22 so he is no longer eligible for child services and transitions to adult services.  There has been some advance planning so it won't be jarring (knock wood).
Happily, in the past few years there has been an emphasis on bringing a lot of the adult day facilities up to par, prosecuting those who have been thieving the system, and improving services.  The program he is going into is one that many of his school friends, and recreational program friends, are already in, or will be joining in when they hit the big 2 2.  BUT. 22? .....When did THAT happen  :o

Man, one death after another, just been told by My Mother this morning that our family friend Sandy from when she used to take part in my brother's cub scouts in the early 1980's and she didn't live too far away from us had passed away, my mother thinks it could've been a heart attack and then last year My Mother's old friend Shelly passed away too. This is not good, not good at all.  :\'(

The same cannot quite be said about my cruise vacation; the hardest part is always the morning of disembarkation. But I got back home at about noon Pacific time, and will talk more about the entire trip later, after I have everything sorted out.

I think My Grandmother may be next I'm saying she's not dead yet just saying in general and she's going to be 96.

Sorry for your loss, Howard. Your grandmother is lucky to be around for 96 years. :)

I can't say who will be next in my family but I have two grandparents who are still around: my paternal grandfather, who is currently 83, and my maternal grandmother, who is currently 91. Both are doing seemingly well.

Welcome back Jeffrey!

Thanks. Btw, I can tell you that my cruise was absolutely great; I took part in some more trivia contests, and won some of them. And my dad had a great time on Tuesday for his birthday. I will mention more details later (perhaps sometime tomorrow).

Okay, I think I have time to discuss the details of my cruise trip now.

Saturday, April 6 - down to the port. We then checked in at the cruise terminal, with our boarding passes and other necessary items. At 1:10 or thereabouts we were able to board the ship, settle into our staterooms and get our luggage unpacked. Once again, my parents got a balcony stateroom; I got an interior stateroom (this was decided when we made our booking/payments several months ago). 3:15 - time for the muster drill, which is mandatory for all cruise passengers. 4:15 or shortly thereafter, was our sail-away. Later I had some dinner with my family... and after that we decided to take part in a trivia challenge (kinda like we did last year on the sail-away night).

Sunday... we were supposed to get to San Francisco at about 1pm, but it took a bit longer than expected to get up there, due to some rough conditions at sea. But we got there a couple hours or so late.

Before I proceed, I might also take this time to mention that some people from our church group were also taking this cruise, as was our travel agent, Barbara and her husband Jim, who live in San Diego. And the plan for Sunday was to take a bus tour to two of the California missions: San Francisco de Asis, in SF, and San Rafael, in the city of the same name, which is on the north side of the Golden Gate, just northwest of Sausalito, in Marin County. But because we got in later, we had to take those tours on Monday instead...which we could do, as the ship was going to be docked in SF overnight.

So when we got into San Francisco and docked at Pier 35, my family and I decided to take a walk to Ghirardelli Square (we were able to get off the ship, but not until just after 5:00) and get a chocolate treat. Then we walked all the way back to the ship (by now it was after 6pm), had dinner, and later on we found another trivia game to play. This one involved 70's music, mostly disco, with 20 questions, and my parents and I -- as a team -- got all but one of them right. (The question we missed was 'What country were the Bee Gees from?' and I answered with England, because I thought they were born there...but the correct answer was Australia.) However, because the team of me and my parents answered the most questions correctly, we won a bottle of champagne!

Monday...we met in the morning in one of the lounges on the ship (the mission travel group) so that we could all get off the ship together and board a charter bus to take us to the missions. I had not been to either one before, but it was nice to tour them and see what was in them. Also, it was my second time crossing the Golden Gate Bridge (the only other time being in August 1991, when I went there for the first time with my parents). We got back on the ship about three hours before it left port, to sail back down south.

Monday night, there were two games for us to play on the ship. The first one was a "Yes-No Challenge", in which the object was to avoid saying "yes" or "no" (or any similar word, such as "yeah", "uh-huh", etc) for three whole minutes while a crew member hosting the game asked you questions (mostly of the yes-or-no type; you just have to find a way to answer them without answering in the usual way). Each participant played individually; some of them goofed up early, accidentally saying yes or no...but when it was my turn to play, I managed to survive the entire three minutes without saying yes or no! One other participant (out of maybe 20 altogether) also avoided the two words. As a result, I won another bottle of champagne! (As did the other winner.) The second game we played was a multiple-choice song lyrics game, in which we teamed up with a young couple who is expecting their first child this summer. And we won that game too; the prize for that one was...you guessed it, another champagne bottle.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, there was a 'Captain's Circle' gathering for people who had traveled on a Princess Cruise ship previously; this included me. My name was called in a raffle, so I won a bottle of champagne for that too!

Tuesday... the ship was anchored in Santa Barbara. The group we were with was set to tour a couple missions there, too... but my parents and I did not go with them. This was partly because we had already seen said missions... but more importantly, it was my dad's birthday, and my mom had ordered breakfast to be delivered to their stateroom and sleep in. So they did that, and I did my own thing (going up to the buffet for breakfast). I also spent time with my parents in various places around the ship for the rest of the morning and into the afternoon. My dad and I also took some time to putt some golf balls around the Lawn Court, and we later played some "Wii Golf" downstairs in the Piazza (something we'd not done before, but it was fun). We later had a nice dinner in one of the dining rooms for my dad's birthday. Later on there was a "Battle Of The Sexes" game which was hilarious to watch (and take part in).

Wednesday... Catalina Island. We had never been there before...so we walked around to see what was there. One place we went into was a museum, which featured some history of the island and its establishments, as well as an exhibit on the Chicago Cubs, who used to have a spring training facility there many years ago. It was kinda nice to do. When we got back on the ship, I decided to relax in my stateroom before we had some dinner.

Thursday... San Diego. Our mission group took a charter bus to two missions in San Diego County: Mission San Luis Rey, which is in the city of Oceanside, several miles north of San Diego itself; and Mission San Diego de Alcala, in the city of San Diego. In between, we stopped at a Mexican restaurant in San Diego for lunch. In the evening, we decided to check out a musical production in the Princess Theater, mainly featuring rock-and-roll songs about traveling.

Friday... Ensenada, Mexico, just like our previous cruise. And once again, we did not get off the ship; we stayed on board. And that was good to do, since there were plenty of activities on board for us to choose from, including another trivia contest, which we did not win, but had a fun time playing. We also had to prepare for disembarkation the next day. But in the evening we had more fun. There was another game to partake in, namely one involving riddles. I helped my family win that one, too. And we got...that's right, another bottle of champagne. We decided to give it to the runner-up team, to be friendly, and they gladly accepted. Later in the evening there was a special show in the Princess Theater in which all the crew members (a few of whom I'd gotten to know during the week from taking part in various activities) performed; it was lots of fun.

Saturday morning...back to the port of L.A., early in the morning. Of course the disembarkation is always the most depressing moment of a cruise, because that's when it all comes to an end. But I had an excellent time, as did everyone who was traveling with us.

I'll share some pictures later this week sometime.

Having our new refrigerator delivered today-YAY!!!! Considering that I bought it almost a month ago.  ::)  Don't understand why it took so long to deliver it-unless they had build it or it is coming from China.  ::)

I'm also going to reinstall the OS on my computer. Fun, I know. So, I will be reinstalling all my programs, too.

And on top of all of that, I feel like I'm coming down with something. I'm not surprised because 3 days ago, I was a birthday party with a bunch of 3 year olds or so. You know how germy little kids are. Took an echinacea and had some orange juice. Hopefully, that will be enough to steer this away.

I supposed we could have rescheduled but, 1. We have something going on tomorrow. 2. I REALLY want my new fridge. 3. I have already waited almost a month for it. 4. We are not going anywhere tonight anyway!

Maybe before we go to bed, they might get here.

Yeah, I caught something. It doesn't seem TOO bad. I have been feeling a bit feverish but it is low-grade (yet the thermometer doesn't confirm that). It must just be a sinus headache. I think it is just a slight head cold-having honey in my tea this morning which helps with my slightly raw throat. Hopefully, it will go away before long.

Ugh. I'm under siege right now. I've been heading west on I-80 to Sacramento, but when I got to Cheyenne, Wyoming at about 2 pm yesterday the interstate was closed down due to snowy and icy road conditions so I managed to get lucky and find a parking spot in a truck stop and I've been stuck here ever since. And the snow hasn't let up one bit so I'm probably not going anywhere for a while. Thankfully I'm in a safe place and I have enough food and supplies to last me a few days but this sucks balls just sitting here.

Job interview Shmob interview!

I show up in a Hawaiian shirt an speedos and drop Visine in my bloodshot eyes.  I tell them I'm not a team player, I have no leadership skills, I couldn't care less about goals, and I see myself in five years sitting under a palm tree with a spliff while getting head from a nun.  Then I make my pitch.  I say I won't accept any of the company's managers as my supervisor because I don't take orders from mental defectives, but I might consider it if you triple my starting salary and give me the first two months off with pay.  That wraps it up and I go down to the unemployment office and get my forms stamped!

It will probably be a panel interview
Just remember eye contact and its okay to take a second to think about a question before you remember it.
Try to remember some simple stats about the county make up (ie population, number of DAs, area that make up the county) govt jobs like to know people made an effort to learn about them.

But soon after, the position was re-posted and I applied again... and I've gotten this far, so, it'll be interesting to see how things turn out.

It can be, especially when they ask you questions you don't feel prepared to answer. But I gave my best responses to the questions they asked me (they'd preselected/formulated some for me before I walked in). And I feel pretty good about how it went. Now I need to concentrate on my thank you letters for the panel (3 people interviewed me).

Morris dancing this morning in the town centre in celebration of St Georges Day.  Generally well received with a good audience (though see the fudge club thread).  Did get one or two double-takes as I walked to and from town 9mile or so each way) in my dancing costume.

my brother came home and had bought himself a new pair of sunglasses.  Right away I said Johnny Bravo ( It was my brother John, but I wasn't even thinking that at the time)  anyway, he did the moves and then I said I cant see without my glasses and he did the I cant be seen without my glasses move as I voiced that.

The manhunt is over, but now starts the long involved trial.  The kid who was caught was pretty much the all American kid, star athlete, polite, great group of friends, never a problem,
not at all the profile of a budding terrorist.  The feeling is his brother turned him, and it would be helpful to understand how that happened.

He was Chechen, different, but had been in the US since he was 9.  Completely assimilated, ironically he became a citizen last September, 9/11/2012.

His older brother, the one who was killed, was a loose cannon who had already been looked at by the FBI, and deemed not a threat, even though, by all accounts, he looked pretty scary to those around him.

800 miles in two days.  I'm exhausted. Took me 12hrs to get home but I had nice time with three different reunions along the way.

That moment when u realize the person you haven't seen in 20yrs only wants to meet with you because she thinks her 13 yr old daughter is a great singer (actually she's phenomenal) and the friend has seen all your pics with celebs and thinks you're connected enough to her her daughter discovered.....priceless.  ::)

It was fun but a bit awkward when the kid started singing some Carrie underwood song I never heard of in the parking lot at Starbucks.  (No FB mentions of this moment please) lol

Not that I've thought about it or anything but  (after the taxes and charitable donations)

I would pay the 65,000 debt that's been strangling me for the last 10yrs. And pay off my parents debt.

I'd buy a house in LA and one in Santa Barbara (I spend enough time in both locations to warrant two residences)
I'd buy a new car and take a road trip... I have lots of places I want to go and people I want to see but I don't fly.
I'd help out a few friends who I know are struggling as bad as I am...
I'd finance/produce my friend's script and one of my own

For the original Degrassi I know someone who lives near Toronto who knows where the actual Degrassi street is and has been there, & the location where the school was:

Degrassi High:  They used Centennial College...been there...it's not on Degrassi street but a couple of miles away from Degrassi street.
Junior High: quite a bit further away, maybe 10 or 15 miles west of Degrassi street.

Yeah. I'd find something else to do with my time. Particularly with my job. I wouldn't be able to survive all the law suits as a millionaire dispatcher. Lol

I decided anything north of 3 million I'd quit. If I win a million that would basically just get me into a decent home in Santa Barbara and give me some breathing room but most certainly couldn't afford to retire. I could take a couple months off and do the road trip. - I really wanna do that.

We attended the regional Special Olympics on Friday to cheer on my youngest. We had so much fun; he received medals for his events (fourth in standing long jump, fifth in 50m run, fourth in softball throw), he probably could have had higher finishes but it was more important to him to have fun, so there was much dancing and singing involved while he competed.  ;D  He had so much energy and excitement, during the hurry-up-and-wait times he kept the crowd surrounding each event he attended entertained by quoting lines from Disney movies, dancing, jumping, singing. By the time for the medal ceremony for each event, most people in the crowd knew him and cheered for him, gave him hugs, etc. At one point we were walking from the 50m run to the softball throw, and a teen athlete came up to him and put her bronze medal she had just won around his neck. She said "This is for your spirit and energy." and then gave him a hug. I couldn't speak, it was such a sweet thing to do. His para and I both had to wipe a tear or two away.

If you have not attended one of these events and get the chance to attend or volunteer, I highly suggest it.

She will only do that if she wins the powerball $116 million lottery, Howard. She isn't planning to buy those houses now.

well hello friend!  :D

seriously tho...even tho my base debt is about 65 or 75K  a measley 8,000 - 10,000k would change my current state dramatically so if you ever find a few extra bucks I'd appreciate the help!  ;)

I'm just saying IF and I mean IF I won the lottery then I would pay off friend's debt.

Awww, such a touching moment. Tears of joy.  :)

Today, hubby and two of his friends are renting a truck and moving the big furniture from our old house, which include:

2 tables
his daughter's queen-size mattress/box springs/bed frame/headboard
refrigerator that we JUST bought in January, we are giving it to his one friend who is helping move stuff today
3 clothes dressers
about 7 bookcases

They are all going to be hurting tomorrow!

Glad it was a great experience!

We've got our annual tip-a-cop special Olympics fund raiser luncheon coming up soon  :)

However- I was saying- if you won the lottery- you wouldn't have to pay off my debt- just help with the 1st 10k and I can handle the rest myself O0

But I'm guessing you don't play the lotto so I probably shouldn't hold my breathe  :D

Sorta. They know we're moving.  They just think it's somewhere other then it actually is.  We have several people interested in buying the house because it is so cheap.  Don't know if anyone will want it with all that needs to be done to it.  :-\\

Didn't get all we wanted out of there, but we got alot of it.

Have no idea. The thing is, this is a Fanny Mae house and they want to be rid of it so it will probably be fairly soon. But we still have to do the title search and such.

Similar to Canada, although given any situation, the closing date might be even less than 6 weeks.

Yes she trusts me. I've given her a hair cut 5 or 6 times already. She has straight hair, makes it easier. She says it's good enough to go out in public, so I guess I passed.  :)
