Subject: A gust of summer, what's happening in August?

Written By: warped on 07/31/13 at 4:52 am

Next week I'm going to meet a friend I haven't seen in 15 years  :)  We were college buddies.

What's happening in August for you?

Registering my baby for High School tomorrow...then, in three weeks, she starts driver's ed.  I may have a nervous breakdown before the month is over.

You will be fine.  Driver's ed should be fun for her.  She will be so excited to drive "Mom, I drove 8.3 miles today..and I learned how to parallel park too!"  Great fun.  :)

Oh I hope she parallel parks better than this woman who freaking held me up the other day... my food was getting cold waiting on her stupid arse...

she made 3 attempts to back into the parallel spot...each time she chickened out and pulled out rather than trying to get in the spot...
On the 4th attempt she fully committed and pulled in to the spot but over turned her wheel... she Perpendicular parked not parallel parked...  ::)

my food was totally cold by time I got home  >:(

Not much so far beyond possibly going to Central Oregon at the end of August.

Yeah, but I don't want my baby to drive.  Next thing you know, it will be "Mom, I drove on the freeway by myself"  My baby's growing up :(

Annoying.  If you can't do it, find another place to park.

Oh trust me, I hate those types of drivers, too.  The first time she tried it, she would lose driving privileges for at least a week.  Get the heck out of the way and let the cops take care of it, I always say. :D

We're going to be teaching my stepdaughter to drive this month too.  I'm hoping she's studied the laws book enough to pass the test you have to take just to GET your permit.  (Then she'll have a second written test whenever she takes her drivers' test in the fall.)  I'm hoping it's not World War III in learning to drive, sometimes my hubby is patient, and other times...  :-\\

Other plans this month:

A family reunion this Saturday.  I actually like this side of the family so it should be fun.  ;D

Pinball tournament a week from this Friday/Saturday/Sunday.  I'm hoping to go at least one day.  I offered to pick up stepdaughter's internet boyfriend (they've never met IRL yet) and take them to pinball with me.  I'm hoping it goes well for her.

We are having my stepdaughter's parents (she was adopted from my hubby and his first wife as a toddler) come to our townhome from California this month.  They are driving an U-haul cross-country to bring her her furniture and presumably her pet snake.  8-P  So I've gotta get my butt in gear and finish getting my apartment in IKEA condition.  (wish me luck.)  :-[

Going to visit the mother in law this weekend as we haven't seen her for ages.

Need to come up with some activities so the kids aren't stuck in the house all the time.  They would be quite happy watching tv/playing on computer/reading all the time (and so would I!) but Dai gets annoyed!

Camper is headed to Des Moines right now.  I have to take Eldest girls winning dress and Aquaponics System next Tuesday.  The girls and I are then staying in Des Moines (visit zoo, adventure land, back to school shopping etc..) for the next 12 days!  8)

But next week I have to go to Workforce Development to "receive customized services"....  I have been selected, failure to appear will result in denial of unemployment insurance benefits  :-\\

Thanks, 80sfan & others who commented.  :)

Been reflecting on old times and how I could have done better, successfully resisted the urge for a Swedish meat pie, hard apple cider and potato wedges at the corner store and stuck to my glycemic-index diet, enjoying the dark conditions & sombre grey skies to the tune of Enya and a thunderstorm track since the rain ended, and I'm looking forward to the European Auto Show this weekend.

Was passing through an emotional, existential hour or so, realized that I had too much to live for to drink myself sick as a dog on the liter of E&J VSOP brandy I just bought last night to store away for my Central Oregon trip @ the end of the month.

Moving 1 state north. Well, at least I've "almost" been to Nebraska once. (Highway 80 across South Dakota to Highway 29 down...then went through Des Monies, Iowa.)  Hope it's a smooth move, man.

European auto show sounds fun. I went to an antique auto show 2 weeks ago, and one is coming up in mid-august.

Warped, I will be taking lots of photos. :)

Just got back from Goodwill not long ago, got some clothes, a set of iPod headphones, some music, a pyramid-spike-studded leather bracelet and a bag of toy cars, along with three Anne Rice vampire stories (rereading those since my mom burned all those plus my Lovecraft, Aleister Crowley & Stephen King books) and a book of Nostradamus prophecies.

Right now just looking at a peaceful Saturday afternoon.

I'm also staying in town Labor Day weekend to take care of stuff @ my parents', instead of going to Central Oregon, the wi-fi there is painfully slow, so I will largely be using my parents' computer (connected straight to the router) except for things that they don't need to know about like my Facebook and deviantART accounts, and my computer is getting slow & needs more crap burned to media CDs or outright deleted.

I will be using inthe00s (due to not getting my postings eaten by DNS and connection-reset errors caused by said slow wi-fi), Swifty's Garage, YouTube and Craigslist & anything requiring high speed from that computer and possibly uploading to Flickr from a flash drive, so please don't think I was hacked from having a different Eugene IP address on those posts.  :)

LOL, I don't know of any trolls or people with no sense of humor on this board who would go around reporting posts, so I doubt it'll be reported.  :)

Fairly low-key evening and I'm in a decent mood compared to how I usually tend to be... not much going otherwise.

I have to go to the food stamps office tomorrow morning, I hate doing this alone but I have to go because I always get $200 in food stamps and they put down $127.00 on the letter for the month starting in August and I just want to know why and if they could adjust the amount.

Good time. Watched his son play in a soccer game. If you think I'm warped, I'm nothing compared to him.  ;)

Howard, they are no different than you.  Most of them are just down on their luck and using the services temporarily until they get on their feet.  They don't want to be on assistance.  Mostly just trying to feed their families.  Plus, remember you are also on food stamps.  What makes you better than they are?

Well, I went to The Food Stamps office, waited on line, they handed me a green piece of paper sort of like when they call you and your number is up then I went up to the 3rd floor and waited some more for about 15 minutes to a half hour, I told them about the error they made when I received $127 for the month of August and there was supposed to be $200 for the month of August, I tried telling them what I wanted but I just got a little nervous, sweating a bit trying to process the words that my parents told me last night to tell them, I just have a bit of anxiety (in general). It's hard to talk to one of those people by yourself without an advocate, they feel that they don't want to deal with low income families. I showed them the documents and all, and one letter that My Father typed up last night to show them but she refused to see it. So all in all, they'll review my case and if there was an error they'll send me a letter stating that the change was made.

Hope everyones having a fab summer!

I don't know what it is Q, I just can't talk to people (express what I want) to authority figures lately, maybe I should bring a notepad and write down I want to say to them or write down what they said so I can relay it to my parents when they ask me "So, What Did They Say"? I've had this problem for quite a while, I know I'm going to be 40 years old next year, I'm still having a bit of trouble trying to process what people say to me and absorbing it afterwards. Then My Parents get confused at me as to ask me So "What Did They Say" and I wind up with a  ??? look on my face.  :(

Bringing a note pad is a great idea Howard.

Also, only take this advice if you want,  the people who work in those kinds of jobs are cranky and sometimes just assume everyone knows the same stuff.

I know you have some problems processing information. If you explain your disabilities to them before you start asking questions or trying to resolve a problem maybe they will talk to you in a different way and help you to understand better.

The minute someone tells me they don't understand what I'm explaining to them I try to find a different way to explain it.

Great advice by Q. I'll only add add this. Write down what you want to say before you talk with them.  I'm hoping you can rehearse in front of your mom or dad and they can go over it with you to ensure it's clear and straightforward.

Thanks, Howard. Slept most of the day out of depression/stress and slept through two severe thunderstorm warnings, planning on going for coffee in the morning and shopping at Hot Topic for accessories and possibly meme T-shirts later on.

In other news I am about a month from having my hair covering part of my face, I intend to keep it that way but trimmed to a defined length once it gets where I want it and tying it back from my face when I need to have my face showing, like when I'm practicing driving or taking pictures. This assuming that my program directors don't make me cut it and a freedom of expression violation complaint isn't successful.

Have a good time, Philip.  :)

I went to Hot Topic, got some accessories (most notably some ear bling that is the same as a friend of mine wears), am enjoying it and the bowtie & suspenders I also got. Surprisingly my dad, who is very traditional-minded and hypermasculine, doesn't mind my style, nor does he mind that the widely varied music (today a playlist of all Enya songs, which sound like vocal funeral music to my family) on my iPod can almost overshadow his Christian music, sports talk radio or conservative talk radio, but I think he was saying that to make me feel better. Considering that I'm wearing a T-shirt with a risque Medusa graphic, black Spandex pants, heavy black shoes, spiked & studded leather accessories and a black bowtie along with the ear bling, John Lennon glasses and longish pitch-black hair and the rest of the family looks like fairly normal churchgoing people, I really stand out from the others & am semi-estranged from most of my family for several reasons including this.

Thinking about having a laid-back relaxing day & picking up some premade breakfast burritos or whatnot at 7-Eleven, then going out for a 12-inch sub sandwich and enjoying that on the couch or in front of the computer with some hard apple cider, at dinnertime.

Went bowling this morning for the first time in a month, playing three total games with my family (at a reduced rate). Although I didn't do so well in the first game, I gradually improved over the next two, capitalizing on some spares and ending up with a 101 in that round. I still feel I need some more practice so that I can become better at it. My four-step approach might need some work. But I had a good time overall.

Packing has begun, which seems mental with just under three weeks to go, but it's something to do really! Did manage to buy a bed this weekend though, which was the biggest thing on the shopping list, joys of moving to an unfurnished house.
List writing is due to begin this weekend, but I might pack up some of my craft stuff this weekend cuz that's my biggest job!
Still finding it hard to believe this is my 18th move, yet it's still stressing me out. To put it into perspective, when I first started coming on here I was about 15/16 and had just moved for the 5th time. One day I'll get settled!

Had quite a chilled weekend generally though, just making the most of relaxing for the next couple of weekends before the panic sets in.

I will be moving too in the near future, second move in less than a year, I'm told that this place will be too expensive even with a job, and the neighbors, management, build quality & location here are all terrible, so...

At least I'm not in a dangerous neighborhood and dangerous place to live like I was before this.

Might be ending up with the 60s console stereo of my grandmother's that I have loved forever (got me into console stereos at the age of 6 or so), well-preserved and works but needs a needle for the turntable.

Awsome. I love those... & console TVs

I bought a working console tv at a yard sale for $1 but wasn't able to take it with me when I moved  :\'(

I was supposed to go mingle with the cast of Major Crimes tonight. Had to pass when something more important came available. I'd met everyone but Mary McDonnell anyway so I although I hate missing it I'm not hurting from missing it  ;)

Tonight I hobnob with the cast and celeb guests at the premiere for The Butler. Theoretically I should be in the same room as Oprah and should...finally...have the photo op I've been waiting decades for.

I have a console t.v. that I bought way back in the dark ages. It still works but the picture isn't the greatest.  :-\\  You can probably see it in some of my pics. It is a shame they don't make them anymore.

I have seen it in your pics.

The pic was pretty nice on mine. I hooked it up to my 8 bit Nintendo and sega genesis. It felt awesome playing old games on an old tv - even tho the tv was way older than the gaming system I played them on.

I used to play my first generation Nintendo on the console. For some reason we unplugged the Nintendo and never put it back. We did have Nintendo 64 that we played in the bedroom. Again, that was unplugged and never plugged back in again.  :-\\  Now, I play my games on Pogo.

Two feet is better than most of us will ever get.  I should tell my sister, she would be so jealous.  She loves Oprah.  ;D

Glad to hear the movie is great.  It looks good, but so many times a movie looks good and when you go see it you find they put all the good parts in the commercials.  And I love Forrest Whitaker.

I should be happy just to have gazed upon her as she passed me....and she looked in my direction and smiled taking her bows after the movie.  I have decided she saw me...even if she didn't.

On the bright side I got a pic w Cuba Gooding jr
Talked to forest Whitaker. I coulda has a pic w him but I have two already
Talked to holly Robinson - who remembers me from all the Mike & Molly tapings I attend.  8)
And- talked to Emmy winning writer Danny Strong - who wrote the butler.  He played Jonathan on Buffy!!!

Congrats on seeing some celebrities, Snoz... best of luck on your interview, Al... and I've had a very rough day, good news is I applied for a new apartment in a quirky west-central Eugene neighborhood where an ex-teacher of mine who is like my big brother and is my musical mentor lived 10 years ago, will be getting better internet there and keeping cable if possible, once I'm on the waiting list and assuming I pass the application screening.

TERRIBLE day in all for me except for the application. I see the complex on Thursday.

Day ended on a scary note for me.  I turn on the news and there is a wildfire near the youth camp I just sent Sarah to.  Trying to find out if it is close to the camp.  I don't think it is, but I have sent a message to one of the Pastors, who has kids there, too.  Prayers, thoughts, whatever would be appreciated, please.

Just got an update from someone at church.  The camp is not close to the fire.  Thank God.  I am thinking if they haven't called anyone, the phones could be down.  There is no cell reception up there, so they are relying on a land line.

Q and Howard, please feel better... *cyberhugs for both*

I'm in a slow stressed part of my life, my mom totally underestimates my functional level (basically thinks I'm retarded with no hope of improving) yet expects me, a childfree atheist who is appalled at the income gap & wealth inequality in this country, to have a big religious wedding to a glamorous rich woman and give her lots of grandchildren. Anyone who knows me well knows that my mom is degenerating, I think she may be in the early stages of dementia, is delusional and expects my people to be a part of her life & me to have family on my Facebook friend list.  ::)

yep.... my GP didn't even offer me pain killers and I didn't want to look like I was drug seeking so I didn't ask. I actually have hydrocodone left over from my previous shoulder injury...

I should be getting a cortozone injection and  will ask for an epidural for the back pain when I see the ortho doc.

Not even 800 Ibuprofens?  That stinks.  Hopefully you can get the time to take one of your pills and it helps.  Is the other guys insurance covering all this?  I think you should get paid for time off, too.  You need to heal and 12 hours a day sitting is not going to fix you.

Day is going better, hoping to get up early enough to do a photo shoot at a junkyard specializing in old cars (1970s or older) over in Springfield tomorrow, if so I'll have pics to post here. Hopefully it'll be foggy, rainy, smoky or any combination of the three, for effects, or there will be dew forming interesting droplet effects on the cars.

Thanks, KayKay. The neighborhood is working-class but cool (looks like pics of suburban Chicago, St. Louis or Indianapolis that I've seen, more so than Oregon, has some cool stuff nearby), complex is from the 60s but well-kept.

Ninny, there is some wildfire smoke and haze in the sky along with clouds that will make for interesting lighting, and this yard has lots of color, chrome, rust, interesting metal & glass contours and interesting junk as decorations... anymore that is my focus there... :)

Junkyard closed, had a kernel panic on my computer that about scared me to death (but methinks the problem was rectified and I should avoid the site I had the kernel panic on, contacted the site's webmaster too), having overheating problems and stressing out a bit. Methinks it'll be a rough day.

But this evening I'm gonna go get something to eat at Chipotle and that *might* make up for it in part.

It was funny the other evening (our first stop). I met this woman who had her 5 year old granddaughter. She took me to a stream and told me there were ducks there. I had the camera around my neck and said, "I love to shoot birds." She turned to me asked, "Why? Don't you like them?" or something like that. I showed her the camera and she started laughing.

Don't know when I will be able to post the new pics. Everything is still in the cameras (yes, plural). I am still using my small one-which is good for when we are on the road. But, take out the big one when we stop.

All the family round for lunch today.  The original plan was to meet in a local country park for a barbecue but the weather didn't look too good.  My sister-in-law said it was raining with her all morning so we decided to meet at my house instead.

It was great to have a get together and catch up.  Niece Rebecca is just about to move to London with her first job, niece Samantha has just got her exam results and starts uni in October and niece Lucie is waiting for her exam results next week.

In late August, I used to find Monarch butterflies lying on the beach, having died, I guess from the cold nights or something. They were very easy to catch then. (Aren't I awful)  Have you ever been to a butterfly… um… place (I forget what they call them. A butterfly museum?) It's an enclosure, usually with walls made of a lot of glass, so its real bright with daylight, and it's FULL of butterflies!! Some people seem to attract them more than others, 'cuz they land on certain people.  :)

I, like most people, absolutely love to look at butterflies!  God, at his finest!!!  Butterflies are the flowers of the insect world.  :D

i am grateful that it is something we can treat!  Two weeks ago I noticed him losing weight, so I bought him his favorite food instead of the kidney prescription food the vet told me to have him on.  He gobbled it.  Thought he just hated the prescription food.  Then when we got home and he couldn't jump on my bed, I knew something was definitely off!  Glad we caught it .  Now just to titrate it, and get the right levels!  He doesn't even mind the shots!  He gets a new prescription diet, low carbs!!!!  :)

Sorry to hear of your cat's illness, Sami. Reminds me of when my family's Irish Setter entered her twilight years, either me or my mom had to administer insulin.

Today seems like it might be ok, could be going to a thrift store today and to a used electronics store or two to get a new USB cord for my iPod, and thinking about trying the Italian panini at a sandwich shop here tonight.

Going to a support group meeting on Tuesday afternoon in hopes that I'll meet more people and finally have a network of IRL friends here after a while.

Congrats...just remember to be fair and unbiased

Just because you don't like something someone posts doesn't mean it has merit. Let the rules guide you and you'll do fine.  ;)

When I became a mod here I thought about all the posts I "could" delete but I don't delete them because the boards would have a lot of locked threads. And some people's post counts would be greatly reduced.  :D

Just packed both kids off to scout camp for the week.

I am going into town later to buy Jungle Book on DVD.  Love this film and we broke our copy of the video through over use!  I was just wondering the other day whether it had come out on DVD when we spotted an ad on the tv so I am buying it as a birthday treat1

Thanks, Howard. I slept ok and am looking forward to my group tomorrow.

Found out that my parents want to get power of attorney over me so they can put me in a group home, which means I'd prolly be there for life, would lose my freedom, most of my civil rights, my relationship with Adriana, and my ability to get uncensored, unmonitored internet access, I would only be allowed to work in sheltered workshops, and a lot of other things. I just emailed the county, Disability Rights Oregon and an ACLU connection I have. I'm also signing over the title/registration for my truck (2 years too late) today so the guy who has it now can fix it up and sell it.

I've been in a group home before and it was terrible.

Obviously you won't give consent for this. Not sure what the law is like in Oregon, but to get a POA over someone in Canada ,they will need to prove that you are incapable of making decisions on your own, or mentally incapable...It doesn't sound like it to me, but do they have a case to get a POA over you?

That's great! Either 120/70 or 110/70 is a good pressure to have. Losing 23 pounds is also great!

This is what I am thinking.  I don't know for sure, but I am pretty sure they have to prove you incompetent to take care of yourself.  A judge doesn't just hand over POA because someone asks.

Well we got home yesterday...  Fair is over :\'(. Girls are back in school!  It is weird to be in the house with no sub plans, or no school!  House is very quiet!

We had a great last night of the fair (it was just me and hubby, for the first time in a LONG time - if. I ever remember).  Nothing sounded good at the fair, and while in Des Moines I wanted to try Zombie Burger I have heard so much about!  It was delish!!!  Awesomeness!!!  We then picked up daughters fair projects and went back to camper, just figuring we would hang out!  Talk, have some beers, and relax...  Someone asked my hubby if we wanted tickets to go to the Bradly Allen/Alan Jackson concert.  Hubby asked how much (they said free... Otherwise they are just going to sit in the car).  So we went back down to the fair, had great seats and had a wonderful time!

I am feeling blessed, even though I am still unemployed!  We are just figuring out the differences between wants and needs ;)

Less than an hour before my first support group, I have to be taken to and from by someone I have a deep dislike for, my mom is still mad at me, and I didn't get my anxiety medication as was ordered, it was available and everything, but my stupid speech impediments made it so they didn't give it to me. Wish there was a text-to-electronic-speech feature on phones for people who can't talk or have impediments or if there is one, that I could get a phone with it.  :-[

Interesting morning.  Sarah came to me to tell me someone called her twice last night.  She keeps the ringer off so it didn't wake her up.  I looked up the number and it was the Cottonwood Heights police dispatch.  Looking further, her phone called 911 at 3:25 in the morning.

Her lock screen has an "emergency number" tag at the bottom so all you have to do is hit it and it dials 911.  I think she looked at the time and when she put it back down, she must have hit the button.  Tonight my goal is to call the phone company and figure out how to turn that feature off.

not really, you always have to wait for your food to digest.
really???  Because it takes 6 -8 hours for food to pass through stomach and small intestines.  Then it sits in the large intestine were it is more thourghly broken down and minerals are absorbed (in total the average human takes 53 hours to digest food completely)....  Looks like you will never be exercising, or eating, you choose  :D

;D

The old wives tale about 2 hours after eating and swimming is exactly that!  They just want to make sure you are not starving your muscles so they cramp up.  Nothing to do really with digestion, except to make sure your body has absorbed  the needed sodium and other minerals, and calories to burn!

God I hate those phones... seriously we get so many pocket 911 calls it's almost like the boy who cried wolf... one day some agency somewhere is going to dismiss a pocket dial because they are always false only to find out it's real and some one some where really needed the police.. .actually it's happened a few times. I just hope it never happens to me...

dag if you get her a phone cover with a front cover... lt could help.  I don't think you can disable the 911 feature but she does need to be careful of that button.

Front cover is a good idea.  She has had the phone for 9 months and this is the first time it happened so that's good.  I told her not to put it by her bed anymore.

What's funny is her phone has it but mine doesn't.  Same brand just different models.  Oh well.

And I'm not one of them. ;D

Thanks, Howard & Q. Got some interesting toy cars at TJ Maxx (obscure brand that is ragequitting the US), 2 meetings in 2 days with another next week, which'll be stressful, my girlfriend may be at risk of wildfire and I suggested that if she's under evacuation order, she pack her card & video games, her TV since mine works with only her SNES but not her XBOX and PS3, other needed/wanted things and her irreplaceables & come up here with me until it's safe for her to come home, and plenty of generalized stress, anxiety, lamenting how the bad hand dealt to me has meant that my life will never be like those of others my age and my body will never be how I want it, and wishing I could just get out & start over without worrying about being reported missing, forced back to Eugene if/when I'm found and possibly arrested & charged for absconding from ODHS jurisdiction.

So I'm not exactly ok, but not doing terrible either.

Why would you be arrested and charged with anything? Unless you're one probation or parole there is nothing that says you have to stay where you are....

There is nothing that says your family can't put out a missing persons report on you but, as long as you are an adult, no one not even the police can force you to go home...no matter what your own personal mental well being is.    If they deem you are a threat to yourself they can commit you for 72 hrs but the truth is adults can live whereever the hell they want to live....
unless they can't

As a 911 dispatcher, you'd know, Q.

My psychiatric and county case management records say I have "medium functioning autism spectrum disorder" (changed from Aspergers when the DSM-V came out), and pretty high chances of baseline schizophrenia that I was never formally evaluated for but show many signs of, but I am actually better than what they say I am... so I would be involuntarily committed, but would be free to come "home" (which would likely be an InTown Suites or Crossland Economy Studios sort of place, at least for a while) to my girlfriend if I end up leaving. Main blocks to that are me not having a car or driver's license at this time (my dad's teaching methods and him looking out the window for me every time & telling me what to do are setting me up to fail, so I'm going to try to talk to my case manager about driver's education again and having a different person to practice with)  and money.

Today is the usual for me, stressed out, my mom complaining to me over the phone and telling me to "get out" and find a rich woman who will take care of the whole family for life along with giving my mom lots of grandchildren, I already have someone great who, like me, doesn't want kids... and two meetings with case management in 2 days...  :-\\

It's my last day at work today, as I'm moving saturday next week and didn't wanna be stressing, and at work instead of packing the day before.
I'm quite sad to leave, I work with some fab people, even if sometimes the "office politics" gets me down. It's been a good 21 months.

Today was ok, a bit stressful, but my program is better than I thought it would be, I learned that due to poor handling and lack of early intervention from the school district and my family, that I may never become truly independent, but I'm trying to get to where I can be placed in an out-of-state program, specifically one in the southwest US far from my family, the people who have bullied me, the lack of social events for anyone but college students, hippies, parents with kids and old people here, I'm hoping to get placed in Phoenix, Tucson, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Las Vegas, Reno or possibly Fresno or Modesto... decent-size places with diversity and people I'll have an easier time trusting, plus Oregon's psychiatric safety net is nonexistent and social welfare here sucks...

I could be getting a new computer next week, migrating from Mac to Windows due to issues with this one and learning that Windows 7 & 8 are better than Vista, that 7 & 8 are as good as or better than Mac OS X with good antivirus protection and good software, and that I can transfer music onto my iPod and play it on a PC with a Windows Media Player plugin or Winamp, both of which are free and will sync my iPod too.

So I did research on the internet about publishing. I wanted to find out the average age for a person to have their first novel published, and the average age was 35.

Kinda surprised to be honest, I thought the average would be like 26 or 27. But that gives me a relief since I thought I was a late bloomer, but I'm right on time to be a writer.

I got a new computer, actually barely used, had to reinstall Windows, decided to add the HotSpotShield free version VPN that came with it, add photoediting software and add my music, and am relearning Windows (been a Mac user for years and learned on them, not all they're cracked up to be due to high service & upfront costs, planned obsolescence and reliability issues, also, they are no longer immune to most viruses and have never been immune to elaborate malware like Trojans), have barely been online all day as a result.

We went away for a long weekend.

Dai and I drove up to Yorkshire on Thursday.  We had lunch in a little café and then went for a walk up to Gaping Gill.  The whole area is limestone so has many sinkholes and cave systems around.  When we got to Gaping Gill we found that a caving club had set up a motorised winch and we could be lowered down into the main cavern.  It is huge - the size of York Minster or thereabouts!  Then we walked back down to the village where we'd left the car and we drove on to our B and B.  This was an interesting building having being built originally as an isolation hospital.

On Friday we drove across to one of our favourite cafés in the Lake District - Wilf's in Staveley.  We parked nearby and went for a short walk up to one of the tarns and back along a river then had a late lunch.  Dai chose the interesting route across to the campsite where we were picking up the children.  Down some very narrow lanes and across a ford that was worryingly deep.

We fetched the kids from their Scout camp and drove to a hotel.  Comfy beds and a chance to shower before a weekend camping and orienteering.

Every August Bank Holiday there is an event in Yorkshire called the White Rose.  There were two individual events on Saturday and Sunday and a team event on the Monday.  None of us broke any records, though I did manage to complete my course in exactly 100 minutes on Sunday.  For the team event I was running with two ladies from our club.  We managed to come second and so we won a prize (a mug each), Dai's team came first so he won a mug as well.

So now we are home with several bags of smelly clothing (running kit from the weekend plus all the kids clothing from camp).  Dai is back in work and we need to get our heads around school starting next week. (Which isn't too bad, friends are starting school this week!)

Have they said that it is Lyme's disease?

Two friends have had Lyme's disease and had a long delay in diagnosis. It is not that common in the UK so doctors won't automatically look for it and one friend repeatedly asked to be tested for the disease before they finally listened to him.  They both responded well to the medication and have now fully recovered.

They kept Sig overnight, but it is such a fiasco.  He had a Lyme test, but that takes time. He was dehydrated so they have them on fluids, then it got weird.  They want him overnight to watch for the DT's, he drinks MAYBE a six pack a year, and the doctor was saying something about a tonsillectomy!  We said no, just overnight fluids, and when I left I told him he could call me anytime if he wants me to bust him out of there.  OH YEAH!  they said they want him overnight, but it would take hours for an available bed and would he mind an ambulance to another hospital.  We told them he would stay in the emergency room bed, and if he is to move I will just come and get him....what a way to jack up costs.  ::)

Bats normally don't freak me out, but when you walk up on one hanging on the side of your cubicle...it is shocking.  At first I thought he was a big, black rubber cockroach.  I was wondering how to get back at the attorney that did it...then I realized it wasn't a toy.

So, I come to work today and what do I find hanging from my cubicle, literally hanging?  A bat...He is gone, now but it sure got my blood pumping.  Freaked me out.

what was a bat doing in your cubicle?  :o

Okay, I'm impressed you looked that up. ;D

Bats normally don't freak me out, but when you walk up on one hanging on the side of your cubicle...it is shocking.  At first I thought he was a big, black rubber cockroach.  I was wondering how to get back at the attorney that did it...then I realized it wasn't a toy.

It is good to be afraid of bats.  They can carry rabies.

crazy!  Hope he gets what he needs!

Gonna housesit for my folks this weekend, no idea how my internet reception will be, but I'm taking the Gateway instead of the Mac, which seems faster on my complex's wi-fi, and my use of HotSpotShield (to protect my computer, internet privacy and scramble my search histories on Google, Yahoo! and Bing) seems to help too.

Update on Sig's hospital stay.  I had a couple of friends come in with me, spoke to the doctor and got them to stop the anti seizure crap that they were giving him for the DT's that he didn't have.  They had mixed his intake papers with a guy who was a serious drunk, and when I said they had it all wrong they gave that 'poor thing is in denial" smile.  The friends came in to back me up, they rechecked the papers, did a blood test, THEN they stopped the drugs, and now he is 100% better.  He was so drugged up he didn't know what was going on, they even were planning on shipping him out to rehab. :o

All this started because he was dehydrated from a combination of not enough sleep, eating crap, overwork, and an infected bug bit,  and an incompetent emergency room intake.  I have had 2 frantic days, and shudder to think what happens to people without anyone to step in for them.

Spent the morning rearranging our vacation plans, we were supposed to go Saturday, but now have put it off a week to make sure he is fully well.

My head hurts  :(

How horrible. Glad you were able to get it all straightened around?  May I ask, is it a University Hospital (because I know University of Iowa Hospital here, while celebrated as one of the best - is quite lost when it comes to patient knowledge.  Patients frequently get lost, literally lost, in the shuffle)?

Awesome and long day at work today.  It started out with a client calling to talk to her attorney.  If it's something simple like "when is my next court date" we are supposed to deal with it and not bother the attorney.  Well, this particular client has asked something yesterday.  The attorney specifically gave me the answer and I put it in the file notes.  I told her what the answer was and she said "but they said".  I told her that hands were tied without the specific paperwork and it wasn't there.  She continued to argue so I passed her to the attorney.  After the call she came out of her office and told me that she reamed the client.  She told her that she could talk to me, that I was competent and know what I am doing.  She said if she ever was that way with me again there would be trouble.

The funny thing is, this is the attorney all the secretaries keep asking me about and telling me to watch my back because she is going to flip out on me one day and argue with me just because that is who she is.  I have been there 3 months and seen none of this.  I just don't get it.  Oh well.

Sure made me feel good.

Last morning before moving day!
My BF is collecting the keys and signing contracts this eve after work, so I'm actually meeting him at the new house then, to take some stuff, and he left for work at 7 after we spent a few minutes chucking some boxes in the car.  I just have last minute stuff to deal with here today, and then tonight we're gonna sit down and deal with all the things we need to do online before we go.
Can't believe we left 90% of the packing for this week, but we didn't find out a moving date for sure, with enough time! Still it's mostly done, and luckily we live at his mums so it's not like anything forgotten is going to go anywhere! We have to come back in a couple of days for my cat anyway, as we want to move him when things are relatively sorted, and don't want to be falling over him unpacking!
Tomorrow's going to be crazy, with three cars and a HUGE van, picking up furniture from 3 different places and then moving!
Can't believe it's tomorrow, we started looking at new year, and decided there would be no rush, but we wanted to move by October... Cut it pretty fine huh?!

No, it is a local community hospital, one I didn't want him to go to because it is really awful.  I was there for 3 days once and the care was abysmal.  The problem is nurses aids instead of RNs and not enough of either.  That, and we have great insurance and because of that I think they try to soak up every bit of it with unnecessary crap.  I truly believe if we had gone into Boston, to a unionized hospital, which we will always do now every time for any reason, they would have hydrated him, let him stay, at the most, for the afternoon, and sent him home right as rain.

Will do when we go. :)

We were originally thinking of going up there this Saturday (tomorrow), but changed our mind when we realized the roads would likely be crowded due to this being Labor Day weekend. Also, we contacted Gopher Glen to see if they had a particular variety of apple we like (Jonathan, a seasonal variety which we used to get in the stores but they are much rarer these days), and they said it wasn't yet available, but there's a chance it might be next week.

It's funny how people talk about hospitals. I never understood the hate for them. I'm quite neutral towards them. Now needles, I can understand the hate! Long and scary, ready to stab you!  >:( :(

I have been scratched by my mom's cats prolly 10 times since I got here, got bounced on during my nap and had to give that cat a kitty treat, and got bit trying to refill the automatic feeder with 2 cats circling around it. I like my mom's cats even tho they are more or less feral (the one that used to be mine has had the feral mentality for years now), I'm just glad I'm the only one here.

Got a place lined up in Omaha. It's pretty cool, it reminds me a little bit of Walter Matthau's apartment in The Odd Couple.

Now I'm back in KC, trying to box everything up, and I'm up to my ass in books, boxes and other junk. I'll be glad when all this is finally over and I'm settled in. Moving sucks.  :P

Soooo tired of waiting...  County extension coordinator/educator job came open, had to have application, resume and cover letter in by July 26th.  The week of county fair.  Was told about it and managed to get it all done, in between all the craziness and mailed in (all extension staff were working county fair, so I did not want it to get lost at fair by turning it personally).

Well the next week came and went..  Which being a public entity I did not think would happen that fast anyway.  Then State fair was the 8th-18th and I had o be in Des Moines the 6th to turn in eldest daughters projects....  Well head of extension sends out email 8/9 that all applications are under review by committee, but summer vacations and Iowa State Fair have delayed the timeline.  She will contact us ASAP...

Ok fair is over the 18th, my girls go back to school on 19th and the other schools in county start on the 21st and 22nd..  So family vacations are over, at the least by families who volunteer for county extension councils...  So I waited!  I know 5 of the extension council members personally, and yes have a good relationship with them, so likelihood I will get an interview is high - I think...

Today being Friday and over a month after applications were due, and beings Monday is a Holiday and Tuesday the extension office is closed for meeting in Ames.... And still not hearing a single thing yet.  I emailed.  Short sweet. "Is there any news regarding the position?  Thank you for the time and consideration."  Yada...  I did not want to come across overly eager, and pushy...,  but I WANT TO KNOW!

I get back a short and sweet...  Thanks for patience and ongoing interest.  They have yet to hold interviews -- I will contact you if they decide to invite you to interview...

UGGGH. What is that???

Patience is a virtue I am running out of!  :P

I have never wanted to live in the same house for 20+ (or even 10+) years...  Probably because of mother and her attachment to hers!  Ya well eldest is turning 12, and we moved into this one before she turned one...  Meaning we have been in this house 11 years!  Where does the time go?

I'm not a big fan of football to begin with, let alone college football. But every chance of me ever getting involved in the game has gone up in smoke since ESPN decided to stop their broadcasts in this part of Europe (as of August 1).

All I know is that it was red as a stoplight and covered the whole back of the knee.  He had intravenous antibiotics.  The RN kinda let it drop that if they had given him antibiotics when he first came in he probably could have gone home the day he came in and not spent three nights.  I love RNs, the problem is they have replaced RNs with nurses aids, the level of care drops right down.  I don't want to have anything to do with a hospital that doesn't have unionized nurses. This hospital doesn't and Sig will never be going back.
