Subject: What's Happening in September?

Written By: valleyroads on 08/26/13 at 10:11 pm

Thought I'd start the new general discussion thread since September is just around the corner.

Okay, everyone.  Hang on to your hats and hide.  Sarah has her first road driving lesson this morning.  I am going to drop her off in about 30 minutes and then go hide.  I know not many of you are in Utah, but you never know where 3 or 4 first time driving teenagers will end up. :D

September has always been a very vanilla month for me. Nothing special, maybe except for labor day in early September.

Agreed. We've been having a heat wave here in Southern California. It's horrible, I feel like I'm back in East Texas. Autumn better come soon.

That's so true... it's been going on all weekend. It was even warmer than usual at 8:00 this morning...and this was in the Ventura area, near the ocean.

Scary stuff...I let Sarah drive us home from the school and she only tried to kill us once.  Most of the drive it was trying to keep her in the lane and to speed up to the speed limit.  Then we went to the grocery store.  She decided to turn into the driveway without slowing down.  Luckily there wasn't anyone coming out or there would have been an accident.  I flipped out...probably a little too much.  She cried a little.  I don't know if I will survive this. ;D

I guess living out in the country has it's advantages!  Both girls have driven Hubby's ranger on the gravel roads (one is 11 and the other is 9). I don't think they will have a problem driving by permit time  :D

Looking for new calves for next years show season!!!

I don't have to work the weekend, or third (or first or second) shift!

I guess if everything happens for a reason, I would say it is so I can better manage the cat's diabetes while I am at home!  We had a hypoglycemic episode today (too much insulin).  We will get this under control!

The sad part about it, I live in a trailer park, private property.  I have offered to let her drive to the mailbox and back, etc and she wouldn't do it until she got her permit.  It cracked me up...my sister would hand me the keys and I would be "WOOHOO!"  Sarah is totally afraid of doing anything wrong. ;D

Had a somewhat surreal experience this morning...

I was getting ready for the office, standing in my hallway near the front door, when I heard some rumor on the walk-way. (In case you don't know: I live in an apartment building, and from where I live I can overlook the entire walk-way) So I moved a little closer to the door, peeked through the window...and noticed my nextdoor neighbor leaning over the balustrade... wearing nothing but her thong! :o
She was covering her breasts with one arm, while using the other for throwing something to someone downstairs (I can only imagine it was her boyfriend). She didn't notice me, and she swiftly crossed the walk-way back into her apartment.

Now in case you're wondering: she is in her mid-20s. And yes, she is goodlooking. And yes, she can carry a thong. But no, I won't give any further details. :P

Back home now, had to take a couple days' break from forums and deviantART due to being made physically ill by my loony hoarder mom leaving canned cat food and rotten vegetables around before vacation and starting up a Facebook photo group for those on the autism spectrum (I believe I'm the only regular here who is on it?), along with terrible internet reception where I was, about 1/2 mile from the confluence of the Willamette and McKenzie rivers at the edge of Eugene.

Glad to be back on inthe00s, deviantART, Jalopnik OppositeLock and Swifty's Garage sites, missed them, but needed a break from forums.  :)

We do different kinds of jobs.

Plus I have to work a minimum of 40 he's per week. Working 10 hours means I I
Only work 4 days a week I used to work 8 hr days (at the same job and I hated it)

If they'd let me work 12 all the time and have 4 days off every other week I'd like that more. But alas when I work 12 or 14 or longer its because we are in the middle of an emergency situation or we are short staffed and I have to work OT

12 hours is a long shift. In your job, I don't know if its that beneficial to work that long of a shift (in a perfect world). Coz you need to be really alert, never know when an emergency will come.

In all honesty there's not much difference between 10 & 12hrs. The benefit is greater. A dispatcher with an extra day off every other week is much happier. Therefor better suited to handle the workload

Just my opinion  (based on my experience)

No problem.

The biggest issue we face is we don't get breaks and we are short staffed. That's more dangerous to the public than working two more hours in a day.

I have two in training but its a slow process and at this time I'm only certain one will make it.

I don't know if I will survive this. ;D
He's driven our Polaris Ranger at our lake house so hopefully, it won't be too bad, but I'm not looking forward to the first drive. I'm planning on letting him drive home from soccer tonight....we're kind of out in the boonies too, but there's a bit of traffic at that time of night so I'm not sure if I will or not...might take him out even further ;D

Believe it or not, where I am there aren't many.  I have to drive a ways to find one and this is a tight paycheck so the extra gas is not in the budget.

Oh well...I will let the instructor deal with it.

Well, yesterday we got a much-needed visit from an electrician, since one of our bathroom fans (in the ceiling) needed to be repaired. Turns out, too much dust (12 1/2 years of it) is what kept it from functioning properly. But the unit itself got fixed, and while the guy was taking down the one unit, he explained the steps so that we could do so with the other two, and vacuum out those.

Got all checked in for the Avon walk I'm doing this weekend.
I was only $200 away from raising the minimum amount so I got a 60 day extension

Gonna shoot for 13.1 miles each day.
I had hoped to do the full 26.2 miles on day one but I didn't really have time (or energy) to train properly.
If I get to 10 miles that will be good- that's here I hit my first wall last year. If I do 13 I will be beyond impressed!

No drama tonight this girl has to sleep. :-)

Sarah had her first freeway lesson today.  She did pretty good.  Still the idea scared the crud out of me. ;D

We went driving afterward.  I drove about an hour north to a bird refuge that is usually pretty deserted, especially today where there is a festival going on in town so most everyone was there.  She drove for about 20 minutes at 40 mph on a windy road.  She did well.  My baby is growing up. :(

Well, yesterday we got a much-needed visit from an electrician, since one of our bathroom fans (in the ceiling) needed to be repaired. Turns out, too much dust (12 1/2 years of it) is what kept it from functioning properly. But the unit itself got fixed, and while the guy was taking down the one unit, he explained the steps so that we could do so with the other two, and vacuum out those.

our bathroom fan makes a noise.

Good Luck Q.  :)

I had you pegged for the spectrum from the beginning.  You remind me so much of a friend of mine. He is very creative, sometimes misunderstood, and always very well liked, so embrace the rainbow.  :)

Thanks, :)

Very little happening so far, am an administrator on a drama/troll free Facebook autism group now as well as on the photo page, hanging around the house for the weekend.

Poor thing.  How did she do it?
monkey bars...  She was crossing and turned and slipped!  I saw her go down from across the park!  I thought then I was going to e.r. right then.  She landed on the rubber mat, catching herself with her wrists, and twisted them and face planted into the mats.  (Her picture on fb, show the skid burns on her nose and forehead).  Well no swelling, could move all her fingers, her hand etc...  I let it go for observation!!!  gave her ibuprofen and iced it.  hoped for a light sprain.

Sure enough walking around swap meet this mrn her fingers turned to sausages, and slight blue tinge!  Went to express care!  Sure enough... She's in a removable splint.  2-3 weeks!  First softball game is the 22nd!  We can hope she can play!

Rough day for me. There was good news of the friend of mine I sometimes help out under the table at his diecast car store finding a group of Corgi diecast cars for me (for those unfamiliar with them, UK-made and well-detailed toy cars that are primarily British and Continental makes, popular in the US in the 60s & 70s and something I have collected for years), and my mom "accidentally" got into my Facebook account after blaming me for her need for oral surgery, but fairly uneventful.

@Q: Good luck with your run, and rest well afterward. :)

@Sami: Best of luck with your daughter's recovery.

My middle one did the exact same thing, but his never swelled up....he just couldn't move his fingers a couple hours later without severe pain so I decided to take him in....he fractured his ulna on the growth plates on each end :(

They started the first week of school.  I guess the best way to teach is to toss them in and say do it but I still think the instructors have to be insane. :D

Here they don't start the driving with the instructor until they're done with the class....your instructors must be crazier than ours~LOL!

hers hurt...  But I will say, she has a high pain tolerance (funny because the smallest rubbing, or seams not right and she is annoyed).  When I asked her about pain...  0 is nothing and 10 you think you might not make it...  She said it wasn't as bad as when the cow kicked her (in the jaw), she rated that as an 8...  This was only a 4 or 5 on her scale...

Lol!  I love that girl!

Sorry about your nap!

I don't need to.  The girl who had the bat above her desk today is like a pit bull.  She won't stop til the problem is solved. ;D

I know, right?  I would have a hard time filling out the form from the laughter.
Just let him know he's in violation of OSHA laws until he takes care of the problem....I looked them up recently for a friend who had mice in her office that her boss refused to acknowledge because "he hadn't seen them", even though there was OBVIOUS "evidence" of them (poop all over, files had been gnawed on, etc).

One of the girls is looking into OSHA rules.  Good to know.

It's a building full of lawyers.  You would think the building owner would have a clue that he can't just gloss stuff over.

wondering if I can call OSHA regarding my workplace ???
Mice, leaky toilet and leaky sink!  It has to be in several violations of work code!!!!

But as I am the homeowner, they will just make me work harder to fix it!!!!  :D

Good idea.  The secretary that had it above her desk yesterday is working on it already.  She is peeved and is like a bulldog when she gets her teeth into something.  I will ask if that is one of her actions she has going.

Got through my job interview last night!  The pay is a little less than what I was hoping!  The interview committee was even concerned with that, as I have my Master's degree and they are starting this out as someone with only a bachelors.  I told them it is hard or me to put a $ value on a pay scale, as there are lots to consider that are difficult to put a money value on (close to my kids school for example, working for the county that I live in, and my girls participate heavily in; being an even greater part of the fair that is a huge part of my family's life, etc...)  But it has 15 paid vacation days the first year, and 9 paid holidays.  I believe the stress load should be a lot less than the teacher.  It is a brand new position, so there was not much info on it.  It is only 15 minute drive, from my house!  I think it is a good fit.  I would be a diagnostician for people's Ag and Hort problems, finding and giving advice in the Ag. realm,  as well as putting on programs for children and adults to promote various Ag issues, and administering testing for chemical applicators for licensure.  I think I did well!  Not sure about the others that interviewed!  But I am happy!  I hope I get it!!!

Have been in kind of a weird state of mind lately, only things keeping me going are my support group, the FB groups I'm in, talking to my girlfriend on the phone almost every day, and inthe00s when I remember to check in. Haven't even been able to go out and take pictures, have been talked down to and treated like a little kid increasingly, and I still can't believe 9/11 was 12 years ago, almost seems like it was very recent. Then again 2001 was probably the best year of my life aside from 9/11, so...

Yeah, thanks.

I have to get a job first. Hopefully I can get one. THEN I'll work for like 6 months to a year. After that I'll move out.

I have a job but it's far from enough to get an apartment not with the income I come home with.

Yeah, thanks.

Spent an absolutely beautiful day in DC on Sunday....Newseum, Museum of America, National Portrait Museum. Down to Virginia Beach in Monday, the temperature dropped 20 degrees, the sun went in, the wind picked up.  Oh well, we have a couple of days, one good beach day would be nice, but still it is nice to get away.  :)

at 444pm, time for coats and jackets and enjoying the nice cool breeze, picking out pumpkins and going for honey and apples. :)

Is that Eastern time zone?? I'm from the Midwest so maybe an hour later for me.

I hope you do find one!  :)

I've been sayin' that for at least three years now (ever since my temporary job ended). I've had a few brief paid assignments since then, including a one-day-only data entry position at an independent toy shop late last year (in which I learned Quickbooks, a system used in lots of places), and two data entry assignments from a lady I met through networking. I am continuing to go to networking meetings (in fact I went to one again this morning), promoting my skills and finding out about what other people do. I'm also continuing to gain experience by volunteering in two places.

Just remember you info on the perfect job for you (in fact it was tailor made for your particular set of skills) but you chose not to apply for it. The logistics weren't "perfect" but there were plenty of viable solutions around that.

Sometimes the 'perfect' job does not exist - everything is a compromise.  I mean I'd like to be paid £50,000 a year for my job but the school holidays go part way towards making me feel alright about the wages being lower than that!

I didn't mean perfect as in perfect. But it was a job that hit all his skill sets, good pay. Great benefits.
It was a bit of a distance but considering the majority of the work force commutes from his area there were several options for commuting. Most of them very reasonable solutions.

Well our trip to Virginia Beach was cut short and I am very disappointed, but perhaps it wasn't to be.  We usually go at the end of August when the weather is perfect, but we postponed it two weeks because Sig got sick.  We had an absolutely perfect day in DC, then went down to Virginia Beach, I am not exaggerting when I say the temperature dropped 15 degrees, the wind picked up to about 25mph, and to top it off they were doing flight training from the nearby air base, every 20 minutes two jet fighters took off, they were so loud you would swear you were standing next to them.  That lasted until 10pm.  We thought it would stop the next day, but it was colder, the wind stronger, and the jet fighters started up again at about 7am kept on flying, so we packed up yesterday and came home.  :(

What I meant was that maybe nally, and others here, are looking for something that just does not exist.  If you really need a job you apply for almost anything that is even vaguely related to your skills set and then work out the details later.

when we first moved back from the US I needed a job, nowhere was recruiting in the field I had previously worked in - a local major employer had just shut down.  So I applied for all sorts of things and knew I would sort out the logistics of getting there/childcare etc afterwards.  the job I got wasn't fantastic but it paid the bills!

In Australia, learner drivers must have 100 hrs experience with a fully licensed driver (read that as a parent).  This must be hard for young people who do not have a good relationship with their parents or do not have normal access to a qualified driver.  100 hrs is a Loooonnnggg time to spend in a car with a teenager and the experience is best used to get to know your older kids better. I also have 4 kids so .... 400 hrs.  :o

Last week end, I took my 17 yr old daughter for a lesson and we crashed into another car. While it wasn't our fault ... I do pride myself on offering that little 'extra' experience!

PS...  I've been catching the bus to work while the vehicle is being repaired!

Fuzzball will be fine.  He came down with scurvy on "talk like a pirate day".  I found that hilarious.  Anyway, he stayed last night and will be staying tonight to get more meds in him, mostly Vitamin C and antibiotics.  Something the pet store did not tell us was that guinea pigs need lots of vitamin c.  What is in his food is apparently not enough.  He is eating great and is re-hydrating.  He should be all set to come home tomorrow.  So glad he isn't going to die, Sarah was not in the best frame of mind last night.  She was completely freaked out.

Is that why my sister fed romaine lettuce, carrot pieces, bits of apple to hers????  I don't remember.  I do know during cold and flu season; guinea pigs are highly susceptible to the human virus as well.

My Mother this morning will be getting a biopsy on her breast and she will also be needing genetic counseling just to make sure it isn't cancerous. She has a history of breast cancer than runs in her family. And I have a small history of diabetes on my side.

Oh no. Sending lucky vibes to you and her! ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

Can't really see the mental illness ...  ;)

I have OCD, it's not a mental illness, it's a disability. Sometimes I like things clean and people see me cleaning almost all the time from at work to the time I come home.

I can relate; sometimes even the smallest amount of dirtiness will get cleaned up by me.

Spent the weekend in Shrewsbury (and nearby).  Friday evening meal with the morris dancers to celebrate four members celebrating their 60th birthdays this year.  everyone brought something along to share so of course there was too much, despite the best planning.  Then Saturday was dancing with various other morris sides around the town of Shrewsbury.  I had a fish and chips lunch while watching several teams of school children dancing in the town square.

Late afternoon some of us went to look at a church near to where we were stopping.  It was an interesting example of a mid-Victorian church.

Then walk to a pub for a meal and back to the place we were staying to finish up the desserts left over from the night before!

Today we walked to a tile museum (the whole area is known as Ironbridge Gorge and it contains lots of industrial heritage).  Then we had tea and cake at the village hall opposite the church we'd visited.  They are on a bit of a fundraising drive at the moment for repairs to the roof and bellcote.  they've got some time-limited match-funding grants so the pressure is on.  That meant I considered that buying some second-hand books a pure act of charity!

Tired now though

I'll be 25 in November. I plan to move to Massachusetts, New York, or New Jersey when I'm 30 or 31.

That should be an adventure, eh? :D :D
