Subject: What's going on for October?

Written By: nally on 09/30/13 at 7:27 pm

Another month is starting.... can you believe how fast the year has gone?!

So...you guys know the drill, as with every month... may October be a great month for all of us.

For me, I'll be home on my own for three weeks, as my parents are going on a vacation to Europe; they will be flying to Venice (leaving next Sunday, the 6th), staying there a few days, and then cruising the Mediterranean before sailing back across the Atlantic to the States, from which (Fort Lauderdale, FL) they will fly back to California. :)

In October I will be celebrating 3 years in Ozone Park and so far they've made me The morning shift guy on the weekends when it comes up on the schedule. :)

I love October! I love seeing everyone's Halloween decorations out, the Fall atmosphere, pumpkin lattes, etc.

I will turn 23 near the end of the month.

If I'm lucky I'll have a job by then.

These days October is my favorite month.

Have been absent for a while due to personal issues capped off by a terrible excuse for a vacation to Central Oregon... taking an orientation session Saturday morning for my new job as a dismantler for a computer recycling company.

Glad you have an opportunity to travel. Very unfortunate the Smithsonian (I assume) is closed. Now that is a wonderful and educational place to visit.

If you have taken any photos, maybe you can post some after you return to England.

(I haven't been to the Grand Canyon yet, or L.A., or Hollywood, or Seaworld, or vagas, or the Hoover dam. My wife has been to all these places, not me.)

Hopefully you'll get to someday. There are lots of interesting things to see in the greater L.A. area. As for Sea World, I went to the one in San Diego back in '94 and had a good time there.

Busy week.

Wednesday we had an armed robbery by knifepoint.

Thursday one of my officers got in a fight with a combative subject (he's okay but my nerves are shot from listening to his useless agonizing radio traffic.  He just screamed unintelligible phrases into the microphone - fortunately I speak gibberish and knew exactly where he was and got him help!)

Friday we had two stabbings; a fight between 30 subjects (not related to the stabbings); another subject wielding a knife (not related to the stabbing or the fight) and about 35 lost/drunk freshman looking for escorts to walk them home  ::)

This week has just been crap.

So I got called back for my interviews, both of them said they couldn't hire me.
Currently, three of my online friends are stuck in a situation involving money, none of them will come online. One of them had a tornado go through his area a couple of days ago and all I want to know is if he's okay. Apparently he responded to one of my friends but won't respond to me.
I failed my maths class and had to drop, so now that I have more free time mum won't stop nagging me to get a job. It's as if she's expecting me to be filling out applications 24/7. I mean I know she means well, but I can't stand how pissy she's been.

Sounds horrible and stressful.  Though I can relate to the freshers story - I live in a university town.  Yesterday they were mainly creating a hazard crossing the road against the lights

Busy day yesterday.  It was open morning for the schools my two go to.  I took James across for the house chess competition.  His house won overall.  I helped set final things up in the science department and then disappeared to help at an orienteering event with the girls team.

Dai took Elizabeth to help at Cub camp and then met us at the orienteering event to help coach the girls.  There is a national schools competition next weekend and we are defending our title!

Elizabeth has applied to represent the county at a world scout jamboree in Japan in 2015.  There is a selection camp next weekend, but we are away with this schools orienteering.  So they'd arranged an afternoon thing today for all those who couldn't make next weekend.  Elizabeth could have gone, if she left camp early.  However no one else replied to say they were going so instead they are visiting Elizabeth at camp.  No idea what they want from her - I just told her to answer any questions as best she could and use examples from scouting where possible - especially mentioning the other camps where she met and worked with scouts from abroad.  fingers crossed.

In just a few minutes, my parents will be leaving for their three-week-long trip. A shuttle service will pick them up here at home and take them down to the airport; their flight leaves at 3:25pm Pacific Time, and it's going to be a 12-hour flight to Italy (where it will be shortly after 12 noon when they are scheduled to arrive, which is 3am here). I will be able to send messages to them after they arrive. On Wednesday they will begin the cruise portion of their trip.

Well, I have actually thought about having friends over, possibly to watch a baseball game (especially if the Dodgers should advance). One thing I will need to do is cook my own meals (and go shopping for food when the supply runs low; I can do that easily).

In fact, I should get started cooking a meal right now, since it's dinnertime here at home...

It was the British one.

He did an American version in the 90s.

7, 14 & 21 were made.  We are due for 28 but they've always had an issue with backing so each one has a different production company (uk version has been done by the same company all these years) with the US once they get a new production co then that group has to work on getting the rights from the 3 production co to use clips for the new one. Right now it doesn't look like 28 will be done :-/

Nice. I have been to those islands before. I assume their cruise will be in the Adriatic sea. I have been along the coast, in such cities as  Ravenna, Rimini, Pesaro, Fano, Ancona and Pescara, but that was back in the late 1960s and early 1970s. . Very nice beaches there, albeit it's cold in October. Will they be stopping by San Marino?

Actually...they won't be venturing too far into the Adriatic Sea. They will depart Venice after tomorrow and then sail to Messina, Naples, and Civitavecchia, which are on the other side of Italy; then they will be heading westward towards Cannes (France) and Madeira (off of Portugal) before spending a week going across the Atlantic.

That sounds like a wonderful trip. I'm sure after such a wonderful and relaxing trip like that, they probably wish they don't have to come home and chose to stay in Europe forever  ;D

My mom might have felt that way when she first went to Europe for two months in summer 1975. She's told me all about her experiences there, and I have even seen the pictures (which fill two albums). Of course, things have likely changed there in the past 38 years, but the pictures still give a general idea of what's there. :)

Oh, certainly. Italy is known for it's history and old archaeology. Here's a picture from the late 1960s (I'm on the right, yellow shirt) in front of some Roman ruins in Italy.  I'm sure nothing has changed there either in 45 years.

oh yes!! Especially that last one... gotta love the chocolate! And yes, the trolleys are still active; I rode one when I was there last year with my parents. (And other public transportation.)

Coit Towers, AT&T Park, and the Ferry Building are also worth checking out...depending on interests...

At 2pm Pacific I'm taking my orientation (they wasted effort on making it one-on-one because of my diagnosis & behavioral history, and are shooting me in the foot for not putting me around other people, but hey, at least I'm working), for my job at a computer and electronics recycler, crossing my fingers & knocking on wood in hopes that they don't talk down to me or act scared because of why they made it one-on-one. And tomorrow I go out to a vintage truck hoarder north of Monroe in the next county over to take pictures!

I have applied for 3 jobs in the past 48 hours!

One of them as an at-risk coordinator at a community college!  It is the most challenging application I have ever completed.  Had to turn in application, resume, cover letter, letters of reference, copies of post secondary transcripts, and a 3 essay questionnaire...  (Limited to only 2 total pages, and I have been working on it over a week on it)!

Another is for analytical lab worker in a grain processing company! It is a rotating 12 hour shift, so I would only work 3 days a week!  I am afraid that might mean Friday, Saturday and Sunday...  That might really take some thinking about!

Not sure which position, if offered, I would prefer!

Have an opportunity with John Deere as well, as manufacturing supervisor...  Never thought I would be thinking about manufacturing.  But I would like to work in their employee training program!  They have great family insurance!!!

Plus great dental, and I have a 10 and 11 year old who may need some sort of orthodontia work in the future!  The 45 minute drive (27 mile) drive may be worth it!  Like I said, I am not big in the position now, but I would like to get into employee training program. Wow, that sounds REALLY tough!!  :o

I thought I was having a rough time with those applications. Yesterday, along with a telephone interview, I did an 90 question personal assessment yesterday---most of them were those strong disagree/agree questions (ugh!) with a few random IQ ones thrown into the mixture. And today, I did another telephone with a different employer, but still was asked these brutal questions (ie. provide a scenario when you dealt with a difficult coworker).

Anyway, good luck with the applications!

Really???  Why?  If your Resume and cover letter are already prepared, you just have to tweak them for certain positions.  Once you have your application information at hand.  Filling those out are a breeze!  And with today's online application systems!  Life is even easier!  Fill out their questionaire and upload your documents!  Then keep submitting for as many jobs as you want to try for!

You must be really limiting your self?  I would suggest you start expanding your idea of a job!  Just applying for jobs you "want" or are "ideal" is really hurting you in more ways than one!  The longer you stay unemployed, the greater that gap is in your resume!  AND you are not staying current in the latest trends and technology in the workforce!

I would start expanding your search into things you don't want, or are "smaller" than what you want as well!  You want a foot in the door!  Go for a starting position!

I really don't want to work in a factory, but I would like to teach adults.  So I am applying for operations supervisor in a factory, so that I can later move to their employee training program!

Facts are facts!  You want in, you want a job?  Prove it!!!

I don't know. I can't remember if its a state or a federal facility
I think it's Alcatraz state prison so it should be open.
Nope I guess it is federal.  I've never been there. I don't really do 'touristy' stuff

Saw Alcatraz and crossed the Golden Gate Bridge today, spent yesterday at Lake Tahoe.

Flying home soon.

Went to my mother's to celebrate her 77th birthday!  Beautiful weather, beautiful day!  My eldest found $90 in their toy box at her house.  Grandma took it - rats!  I wonder how much money we can find stashed in that house!!!  lol!  She was in good spirits, and we had a good time!

Thinking eldest daughter may have ringworm above her eye, and youngest has a cold with a horrible stuffy nose!  Hopefully both will be able to goto school in the morn!

I just hate how the school is so precautious.. 48 hours she is out AND I had to go to the Dr. to get a note that it was being treated.  Even though it is only being treated with 2 OTC athlete's foot creams and if it doesn't clear up with monistat 7....  ::)

I guess its one of the infectious diseases that can be spread around easily by children.  There are several that schools have rules about the minimum time you have to be away from school.

You know I love my directv but I've been frustrated this weekend because I've bee sick. All I wanna do when I'm sick is veg out and sleep.  Vegging out means nonstop tv marathon like law & order SVU on USA and Criminal minds on A&E  or lifetime TV movies.  For some reason all my channels are fine except for the four channels I wanted to watch. USA, Lifetme & Lifetime movie Network , A&E  (and AMC which became an issue on Sunday when I wanna watch the new ep of Walking Dead ). Anyway- all my channels but these 5 broadcast perfectly.

I didn't get to watch anything I normally watch when I'm sick.

What a shytty weekend. I alsoissed out on a Community Fan weekend which really pissed me off.

this week and next week are holidays from school for three of us.  Dai also took this week off work.

Last weekend we went down to the Forest of Dean for an orienteering competition.  Our club was competing against 8 other clubs for a trophy.  We came 4th overall.  I had to complete a course about twice the length of the course I normally do.  I got round, but was out for ages.  Elizabeth was the best scorer for our club.

Then we stayed in a youth hostel in the Costwolds from Sunday evening until Wednesday.  The weather was a bit rubbish so we went to Oxford on Monday and Wednesday to dodge the rain.  On Tuesday we visited Bibery which is where Dai's Granddad came from. The village is well-known for its trout farm that was once owned by someone in Dai's family apparently.  we also went to Bourton-on-the-water and had a look at the model village which is laid out as the village itself looked in the late 1930's

I think we were talking a possible 5 days of isolation, but I'll see when it comes closer to the time I need to do it.

That's fine. My mom had less than that many days of isolation each of the two times. Just sayin'. It probably depends on a number of different factors, like how serious the condition is and things like that.

What is going on for October...

21st we had snow!

23rd I am sick - been freezing all day (I thought it was because the house is 58 degrees, but I am wrong). I have a fever, my head feels like it is going to explode and my stomach just doesn't feel right!  Yuck!!!!

hope you feel better. :)

looked out my bedroom window this morning to see something lying in the gateway.  I couldn't tell what it was though it looked like a small bunch of flowers.

I went down and picked up a single blossom of gladiolus.  no idea how it came to be outside my house.  Anyway I washed it and stuck it in a  vase

And they arrived home safely last night, around 6:45pm Pacific Time. They were quite tired, from having been up super-early and flying across the country. But they told me they had a good time... and showed me a few of the pictures they took.

Yes... a couple of T-shirts and a little pouch for carrying my coins. They also brought back a couple of interesting books about the history of Rome and Pompeii, for all of us to read.

I won't be doing any of that myself, btw. My family and I have plans to go out for dinner. Mostly because I'd been cooking just about all my meals while they were gone, and we haven't had a meal out together (that is, in a restaurant) since before they left.

I gooned my left foot pretty good today when I was climbing into a semitrailer to help unload some freight.  I have a pretty regular routine that I follow when climbing into trailers but this guy loaded a pallet jack on before I climbed up which disrupted my routine and threw me off, and I fell forward and bent my toes back way farther than they're supposed to go. I gimped around on my foot all day and finished my route but it's still pretty sore.

I'm gonna pop some ibuprofen and go to bed soon, and when I wake up tomorrow it's either going to feel better or it's going to swell up to the size of a basketball.  :P
