oh my yes!!!  I was just in Iowa City (you know the number 1 party school this year).  I had to drive through "bar district" coming from hospital!  I saw Uncle Sam, a girls thong was longer than her skirt, a horse head, kitty kat, and really it is far too cold for most of those "costumes" out there!!!!  I almost hit a Dorothy at a crossing as she stumbled in her ruby stiletto thigh highs at a crossing!  UGGGG. I feel sorry for you Q after driving through that craziness!!!!!!!!!

so in the UK we have guy fawkes/bonfire night on 5th November.  In reality that means fireworks at various times until about a week after.  Last night was the main night for parties and public display.

Years ago Elizabeth didn't like the loud bangs so we came up with the idea of going up onto a hill to watch the fireworks.  We did that for a few years.  then we went to the big public display a couple of times but got frustrated with the location in that most of the time you end up missing some of the display because of the trees blocking your view.

So we went back to going up onto a local hill (at the edge of some woods).  It looks out across the whole town and surrounding areas.  We bought chips and sat/stood up there to eat them while all the fireworks were going up.  Great views, and this year some friends joined us.

Good idea.  We always view fireworks from afar.  More because of the crowds, We both hate being I them, there are always people who make you want to smash them.  More fun and rlaxing to find a spot where you can see them and have room to move and enjoy the company.

Please take care with your situation.

A few years back I was rush to hospital under similar circumstances, and the only caused could have been stress from work.

ooh, hope it's nothing serious.  Just like Philip I went to the hospital about 12 years ago for a similar thing...they took my BP and did a EKG test (Electrocardiogram) and I was OK...they said I was having muscle spams in my chest, possibly due to stress.

I have never had that since.

Sometimes stress hits you when you don't expect it.  It has built up, and you don't even know it's there, kinda like a mini ptsd episode to tell you it is time to do something about it.

I have sole responsibility in doing calve chores, had to go to the mill, buy 500# of feed load it in truck, and restack it in barn, as well as 2 more bags of chicken feed.  Ugg  - worn out.  Plus I get to conveniently take down all the Halloween boxes and bring up the Holiday Boxes.

It is nice to have him home, but not as an invalid.  Is this bad of me to say :-\\

Ah, but you see Howard lives in New York, where parking is so scarce that people will literally murder each other over a parking spot.

That's one of the nice things about living in the Midwest, we have so much more open space out here.

My sister in law (on my wife's side) , who has been battling cancer for 18 months now, passed away today, in Hong Kong. She was given 6 months to live..some 18 months ago.  She had been on chemo for a long time, left her in pain, weak and no appetite for some weeks now. Really was not worth to go through that everyday, she decided to just stop the chemo a few days ago.

There was one time where I had to train someone else awhile back, that person was rougher to try and teach(He felt that stocking milk was confusing, which is one of the things I have to train them in).

The weather has turned cold here.  We spent the morning at Beacon Hill at an orienteering event.  It was a practice for next week's schools competition so I was helping with the new girls from our school.  And then Dai had some coaching going on afterwards that I helped at.  Another cup of tea should finish thawing me out.

It's Remembrance Sunday in the UK (and maybe elsewhere)

There is always a parade in town of the local Territorial Army and various cadet groups, scouts and guides etc.  Elizabeth and James paraded today.  I went across to the war memorial where the service took place.  Despite it being the same service every year (hymns and readings) they managed to muddle up the bible reading and the service address so that the two minutes silence was slightly after 11.00 (You can hear the town clock chimes).  Despite the reminder I still jumped when the rifle shot after the two minutes.

This is the war memorial in a local park

Just got home from church to find out one of my neighbors passed away two hours ago.  Sarah had run across the street to give another neighbor something and she told her.  She came back in tears.  He was a sweet old man.  Very sick, though, so it was a blessing.  :\'(

The fact I could barely find a parking space at a grocery/super center store this morning, at 8, due to the fact that people are camped out to get 6 free wings for a year...  Shows we have nothing really to look forward to in the Midwest!

Is this the same as Veteran's Day here in the U.S.?  If so, that is tomorrow here.  Or, as my dad called it, Armistice Day.

It was called Armistice Day because it was started after WWI, "the war to end all wars".  WWI ended officially on November 11, 1918 at 11am...the eleventh month-eleventh day-eleventh hour.  When I was a kid we still called it Armistice Day.

yes, people camped out over night (they didn't allow people to start lining up till after 9 pm last night).  Grand opening was today at 10, the first 100 people got free wings for a year.  (Fine print - 6 wings a week for a year.  I would spend more going every week than I would ever save (feeding the kids, cause they would never let me eat out that much).  Lol

In the UK they always have Remembrance Sunday as the nearest Sunday to the 11th November.  It is for the same reason as Veterans Day.  Until quite recently not many people observed the 2 minutes silence at 11 am on the 11th.  More and more though it is being done.  On Monday maroons were fired from the top of the Carillon at 11 am and 11.02 so that every in town could hear them and stop what they were doing for a brief moment.

So I'm gonna need to take another typing test this morning; yesterday I made some more applications, including a position that requires a "current" typing certificate; that is, one issued in the past year, but my most recent one is a couple years old, so that's why I need a new certificate. So I'll be going over to take it shortly.

Now that I look back the other day, I just feel bad that My Parents have to get new carpeting. I shouldn't have panicked and panicking caused My Mother to panic as well. It's like I knew what to do but then I forgot how to shut off the water from the toilet bowl. Sometimes I have trouble calming down. All these things that have happened to me in the past, I just can't live by myself, I'll admit it. I need help with life situations. :(

Nothing wrong with that, Howard.  We all need help sometimes.  You know your limitations and live within them.  You're a good guy, Howard.  Don't let it get to you.  You said the carpet is 35 years old, maybe it is just time for new carpet anyway.

Do not dwell on this.  It's something that happened and it's done. It's over.  What you can do and what I think you are doing here is saying to yourself "How can I do better the next time it happens", coz that's all we can do with an emergency happens, ask ourselves what can we do better next time.  You said it yourself, just remember how to shut off the water.

Howard, it takes a big man to admit his weaknesses sometimes.  You are a really good man, with a kind heart. Karma.

Every year in November our town has a street fair.  We were granted a charter to hold a fair back in 1220-something or other.  All the rides are in the town centre and there is a bit of chaos caused.  They have to shut a couple of roads including the main road through the bottom part of the market place.  This always causes some problems, but this year there are road works on the streets usually used as diversions.

I am going down to walk round this evening with James and his friends.

Tomorrow is Elizabeth's birthday and we are going to a new pizza place in town where we can make our own pizza and then eat them.  Should be fun with ten 15 year olds giggling their way through it all.

James has made the school rugby C team as a sub and it is his first match tomorrow morning.

I noticed she smelled horrible, and I gave her a bath.  Washed her bedding, she must have had an accident in her kennel. She went out and came back in and leaked all over the house.  Trying to keep calm and have patience, but uggggggg.  Dog is on a diet of water, pumpkin and yogurt!  Tomorrow will be turkey and pumpkin....

James has made the school rugby C team as a sub and it is his first match tomorrow morning.
sounds like a lot of fun to be had. Happy Birthday to your dear daughter and hope your son's match goes well too. and the Pizza should rock!

Been away for a while... but by next weekend I'll have moved into another place (less money and better location), been packing stuff like crazy, got 2 new big diecast cars plus a box of little ones in the mail, my job went over like a lead balloon (was bullied on the job and not trained), but am taking on applications for data entry at an adoption agency and a couple other places. Also got a page set up for my artwork for sale and am entering into a juried art show in April 2014, which could lead to my art going on extended traveling exhibition & eventual sale!  8)

Last night I ate some bad food. I got dizzy, hot face, extreme face redness, diarrhea, nausea, sore stomach, headache, vomiting, weakness in the whole body, hands tingling and what felt like a rapid heartbeat but probably was panicking resulting from all that. Thought about going to emerg but decided against it.  What a fun night. Must be something else I am allergic to.

I am better today except for the weakness due to lack of nutrients in my body. Ate a banana, toast, rice and soup. Should help. Gonna sleep/rest most of the day, I think.

Yup, Snow White, this is how I felt last night, You even nailed the redness on the face. My clothing though...is a little different than yours.

Ok...  Someone can change the calendar anytime now!  I am through with November!  Nov. 1 husband an emergency surgery, me doing all chores from then to the next 4-6 weeks.  (He can't lift or bend).  Okay, if that wasn't enough, now the damn dog has the scoots!

I need wine!

You have too much on your plate right now. I hope the 2nd half of November and December is better.

Thanks...  Right now I wonder what it would be like to have a full time job as well?  I guess I am lucky that I do not.  Or maybe unlucky, because I could go to my work and be oblivious to it all for 9-10 hours of the day.  LOL  ;) 8)

No seriously...
Gall Bladder attack????  I know it happens to some, and I have wondered if I have had it a couple times.  I hate those nights, and why does it decide to hit always at night, I guess maybe due to big meal at night.    Best to stick to the BRAT diet (Banana, Rice, Apple, and Toast) for now.  If you are my dog, you can also throw in yogurt (for probiotics) and pumpkin (for fiber).

Good luck, hope you feel better soon!

Thanks to all. I just have to watch out what I eat. I have several food allergies that give me a similar reaction..yesterday was about the worst I've had as far as reactions go.  I'm not sure what I ate that caused it, but it may have been a multigrain bread or some "ingredient" in a sauce.
Yes sami, I have known about the BRAT diet for years and I always go to it when an incident like this happens.  :)

thanks!  No scoots as of now, kept her outside or in her kennel for much of the day.  Gave her a bath in early this afternoon, and she is still clean.  She had a cup of doggie food, and she ate it.  But I am keeping her on the yogurt and pumpkin!  I just don't want her to have any more upset tummies!!!!

Thanks!

Been feeling like the events of 6 years ago (for those who don't know, my mom entrapped me into criminal charges that there were no evidence of, I was abused & denied medication in jail, a deputy used brutality that I instinctually defended myself from, I went to the state hospital on a 2-year conditional sentence and narrowly avoided 20+ years in prison or the state hospital) are gonna repeat themselves but with a far worse outcome and that the data entry job will go bad because I type with 1 to 3 fingers and look at keyboard & screen at the same time.

And I had a dream that I had to be group home roommates for the rest of my life (sharing a bedroom and everything) with a person who has bullied me since kindergarten & will not give up.

Busy day yesterday and today.

James played in his first rugby match.  His team lost but it was a pretty close game according to Dai.  James played well and although he was officially listed as sub was on the pitch for most of the game.

Then in the afternoon James went to karate while Elizabeth had her pizza making party.  It was great fun.  First we made dough by hand, this was wrapped up for us to take home (and we baked pizzas for tea tonight).  Then the chef showed us how to press, throw and fling the dough about to make a pizza.  We tried to throw a pizza around the table, passing from one to the other.  Only one girl got hit in the face!  Then with some fresh dough a volunteer topped it with tomato, cheese and basil.  We watched it cook in the oven, so hot it was done in minute or two.

We then sat down and had a pizza each.  Delicious!

Today was the British schools orienteering championships. Elizabeth and her friend came third in the Year 10 girls team competition, some others from the school won the Year 9 team competition and the school won the small secondary school competition overall.  YAy  (All due to their excellent coaches I think!)

We had our church Thanksgiving Dinner tonight.  Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, rolls, sweet potatoes (best ones ever-baked with apples), pecan pie, chocolate peanut butter fluff...  The food just kept coming!  Delish!

Thanks. Luckily my mom went out of state for a while & I'm moving into a new place very soon, I will give the job a try... problem is I'm in a program where I have to start with volunteer work and move toward paid work, I will be sent back to the state hospital or the abusive group home I was in if I quit the program, and I am sick of transitioning & teaching when I am functional enough to jump straight into things and can learn by trial & error like any adult without a diagnosis can. And I have no friends IRL because I was torn away from the ones I did have when my mom insisted I go to the high school everyone in the family went to.  :(

I'm honestly burned out and burning out more every day. My psychiatrist is worthless and I'm not allowed to look for another, so... I'm at wit's and and I don't think anyone or anything can help me. My mom entrapping me into charges ruined my life and future.

Waiting to be called in for a job interview. The position I am going for is florist, which has been my area of work for 13 years. I consider myself blessed, because florist jobs are hard to find. So this is a really good opportunity! I want to gain more experience as a florist in the future. Hopefully they will call me in soon, but it could take weeks/months. I know I've got this one though!

I HAVE GREAT NEWS!!!!

Or at least good news!!!

One of my father-in-laws fat cattle broke it's leg as it was being loaded.  Laws have it, that any "down cow" cannot be slaughtered at beef packing plant (unless the animal broke it's leg while at the plant).

We got the opportunity to have it.  We had to process it ourselves.  And the steaks may not be the prettiest!  BUT WE HAVE BEEF in our freezer!!!!  I am so grateful right now.  We were down to our last package of ground venison, 2 venison loins, 5 packages of breakfast sausage, 3 packages of ground pork, and a couple pork chop packages!  I feel blessed we get to eat BEEF again!

Sorry, it is such a big deal!!!  It just seems so silly we raise it, we just can't afford eat it.

I was going to go to the sound off thread and rant that I hadn't heard from my friend who I was supposed to meet at one for lunch. I got here at 130 but I knew she was in a show taping so I figured I had time...& I'd been texting updates in case the taping finished early.

She just called me and the taping ran late.  Whooo hoo. I was afraid I'd missed them and drove downfor nothing.

We got the opportunity to have it.  We had to process it ourselves.

You "had to" or "got to"? :)

No snark intended.  I remember the day I saw a cow being broken down from carcass to primal cuts to steaks and figured out what the bone in a T-bone was, and why it was shaped that way.  It was, like, "whoa, neat!" and I had a new appreciation for where my food came from.  Still loves me a steak.  Also just realized that if I were in your situation, I'd also have an opportunity to do things like rare hamburgers...  If it weren't turkey weekend here, I'd go to the butcher shop, get me the fattiest chunk of chuck I can find, and fire up the meat grinder, and do what comes naturally.

Been a while but dropped by to say hello...things are so crazy. Hope everyone is doing well! :)

You're back?  Inconceivable!  (Whatever's going on, have fun stormin' da castle! :)

thanks!

Not everyone appreciates "getting into" their meat as much as you do!  Now as I would prefer to be able to take our own beef to a locker and have it cut for us!  Ease and convenience (and prettier steaks) prevail!  I am rather proud that we are able to do it ourselves.  I have learned to season my own sausage (breakfast, Italian, chorizo ) when we do pork.  The best part is I know what is in it!  Now wishing I could learn to cure a good ham, or smoke bacon (and have the automatic slicer)!!!  I get a good satisfaction about "all natural and living off the land"!

So today (Thursday) was my mom's birthday; she had to work for a couple hours in the morning, but came home after that. In addition, my dad took the day offa work so he could be home with us. In fact, I helped him bake a chocolate birthday cake. Later on, for dinner, we went to a nice restaurant in Westlake Village for a nice dinner...and came home to have cake.

Then I go pick up some free swag from a reporter friend of mine.
Then I go have lunch with a former boss...& friend...I haven't seen her in over a decade.
She's gonna be in the la area for business.

Full day I'm tired just thinking about it

Got to see a very personal moment today.  At the end of tonight's performance of Peter Pan at the high school, someone got up on stage, called the cast back and proposed to his girlfriend.  (Don't panic, they are already out of school...just helping with the play)

It was so sweet.

Dai and Elizabeth are away this weekend, up in the Lake District doing some orienteering coaching.  Dai is a coach and Elizabeth a coachee

James played rugby for the school C team again yesterday.  The team won 25 - 5.  James didn't make any score directly but contributed to his team winning the ball on a few occasions apparently.

I did a small amount of Christmas shopping, I think I'm going to have to consolidate my ideas this week and blitz it next weekend.  For the kids I won't buy too much because we'll be able to get some stuff much cheaper in the US.

I think the company we are flying with have a decent allowance (like two cases each).  Plus I have a cunning plan of taking a large suitcase but not many clothes so there is room for more.  And I usually take a few scroggy items that I don't mind throwing out to make room for new stuff!

I proposed to my wife in high class restaurant/club. I put the ring in her purse when she stepped away to the ladies room for a minute. When she came back I asked her for a candy, coz my throat was dry...she looked into her purse looking for candy and then she saw the ring box, opened it up and freaked out a little. Others around sort of knew what was going on, I think..after she got emotional.

Good luck on your testing exam today.

Thanks. The written part (which consisted of multiple choice questions) went well, but then there was an oral part in which we'd have to translate certain phrases between English and Spanish. The person would say something in one language and I had to translate it into the other... and I seemed to hit a bump in the road there because I didn't know all the Spanish words. When the person gave me an English phrase, I had trouble figuring out the corresponding words in Spanish. When it went the other way, I could translate most of the Spanish words to English, but not all of them. Some of them were intuitive, but it was a challenge. In addition, there were like 20 other people taking this exam, most of whom were probably native speakers, so they likely had an edge. So like I said, I feel I did quite well on the written part, but the oral part was a struggle. I will likely be emailed the results sometime next week.

This job would be contacting parents as to why their children are truant.  This would need very fluent Spanish (with lots of dialect) skills.

I know I did gather enough in my 4 years of high school to be considered fluent!  I will not starve in Mexico however! ;D

More like some fool upstairs fired a handgun at the floor. No one else called the cops before me either. Found a little of the bullet shrapnel last night(the rest was found today)

Trying to see if I could get my bus pass(which I didn't even get to activate) replaced. Of course, the supervisor at the transit store is off this week. Real convenient. They also doubt they could give me another regardless...

Doubt they could replace a bus pass I payed 60 dollars for and didn't even get to start using due to circumstances that were not my fault? That's BS. That's like paying 120 dollars total for a 31 day pass if I have to buy another one.

It's a quality restaurant though. We should enjoy it.

enjoy your feast.

Christmas music started playing on Sunday, and Monday morning, my girlfriend announced she'd left me for someone she met at a PS4 launch event.  :\'(

With my previous abandonment issues, it's been really hard on me, but I'm hanging with a friend of sorts Wednesday morning, so that should be nice to help each other through our issues.

And I'm in my new apartment, a nice place in a very central location.

I'm sorry bad things have been happening hopefully there's a silver lining.

>:(

hope you can get your replacement Buss pass.

The problem relies on the fact that I need one sooner than next week. Tommorrow is the only day left that I can afford to spend money directly on the bus, if I go any longer I won't be able to get one for awhile unless I get lucky and get a windfall of extra hours.

Odds are much higher I will just have to buy another one this week, but that's basically like getting ripped off.

Thanks Q. Right now it's unpacking, transferring my files to my other computer, getting ready to have my phone, cable & internet switched over to Comcast from Country Vision (regional cable provider) and Cricket (new phone via partnership between Verizon and Comcast), and helping build the electrical cord portal & enclosure for my bed...

With the gun shot, the shrapnel and that bug problem a while back. if possible, I'm hoping you can move to a better place.
Bus passes are so expensive.  When I was a kid in school, bus tickets were 8 cents.  I miss those days when bus passes didn't cost an arm and a leg.

Thanksgiving at home this year, not with family... we've had so many arguments, disagreements, some of which nearly turned physical, I've been called a financial & physical burden many times, just avoiding the drama and blaring football on 3 different TVs.

Give thanks in your own way.  You have a home and you are strong enough to walk away from the drama, so many aren't.

Sorry Thanksgiving at your house didn't turn out peaceful, maybe next time. disagreements can be a problem at family gatherings.

Thanksgiving here today was lovely, peaceful & relaxing as a holiday should be. Last year, at my parents' house, it was terrible (referring to last year along with Sunday the 24th as when disagreements were)

The gun shot in particular is definitely a wake up call.

I've been tired of living in this place, it's too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. I'm the only person that has been in this place for over 12 years while all the other tenants have come and gone.

The current problem is the lack of money to move(I wouldn't mind living a lot closer to current job, that would cut travel costs greatly).

Got a new diecast model car in the mail, it's a silver Dodge Omni GLH Turbo and I'm very impressed with it.

Other than a massive headache that has lasted all morning and being proselytized at by my dad over drinking energy drinks when caffeine is "not godly" and "(I'm) using a drug, we don't take drugs in this family" (latter is applied to all of my medication too)  ::) I'm doing OK today.

Local DJ John DeBella used this as an inspiration for the past 20 years or so. At first he would drop slips of paper
from a helicopter that were redeemable at a local branch supermarket for a free turkey, but the last 11 years he
has been using the inspiration for people to drop off turkeys and other food items to help feed the hungry.

And now for some good news, while it was highly unlikely that Indygo was going to replace it, my rental office is going to let me pay 60 less next week.

Sitting at a poultry show - listening to 1500 birds sound off and watching people.  Eldest just bought a hen from Tennessee and looking at another trio from Oklahoma.  Such a learning experience for her!  I get to people watch!!!

A bit of Christmas shopping this morning, but couldn't find a present for Dai.

This afternoon we went to see The Hunger Games - Catching Fire at the cinema.  Good film, slightly spoiled at times by some 'cool' teens being a little noisy and distracting.

Let's see...today I tried to do a little reorganization in my house, specifically my room. I threw out some things I'm sure I didn't need anymore, and boxed up some stuff that I'm likely not gonna be needing immediately. I still have a little more work to do on that.

Well, yeah. But it's pretty sad that the transit store can't apparently pull a mulligan for me on something I didn't even get to start using, while my rental office picks up the tab.

(And let's not get into small claims court, that would take awhile)
