Seems that way for me too.

Anyway, I don't have much of an "agenda" in the upcoming month per se, but I will likely find out about the "library page" position I interviewed for earlier this week.

James played in a concert this evening.  It was a percussion showcase.  There are three percussion groups at school.  they did some fun things.  One group used drum sticks to play on some plastic chairs - it was interesting to listen to the different sounds you get depending on whether the stick hits the seat, side, leg or back of the chair.

the group James is in played a piece just striking drum sticks together in various rhythms.

The top group played a percussion (including xylophone etc) version of Saint-Saens The Swan.

You haven't flown on any American airlines have you? There is a race to the bottom. The industry was deregulated in the 1990s and now what once used to be part of your ticket, you now have to pay. Most airlines you have to pay to check a bag. JetBlue is the only hold out to this and I have heard that they will also start charging to check a bag. As a result, people have carryons that take up a lot of room. Food that was once part of the ticket, now you have to pay for. The seats have gotten much smaller and narrower and VERY uncomfortable. I'm a small person and I am VERY cramped in those seats. Airlines purposely make things uncomfortable so you will pay extra not to be uncomfortable. You can pay more to have more leg room. You can pay more for food. You can pay more for blankets and pillows (that they used to hand out all the time). Next thing you know, they will make you pay if you need to use the rest room.  ::)

Here is an interesting article if you are interest.

http://www.newyorker.com/business/currency/airlines-want-you-to-suffer

Unfortunately, there are way too many of us who have to fly (it's the only way we can get to Puerto Rico since they haven't built the bridge yet  ;) :D ;D ) that they can get away with it.

Sorry. Rant over.

Last night Dai and I went to the Senior Musicians Dinner at school.  We had been invited because of our help with various music school concerts, working the bar etc., and my contribution to the staff talent show.

Apart from some technical issues (they couldn't seem to get every microphone and pick-up working at the same time) it was a good evening.

this morning Dai and the children have gone up to the Lake District for a weekend orienteering coaching.  I have some housework to do (as ever) and I am also prepping for an interview that I have on Tuesday.  My immediate boss is retiring and I have applied for her job.  Before the interview I have to write a description of plans for a Science Taster Day for Year 11 pupils looking to join the school for Years 12 and 13.

I've been there. In fact, I have the tee shirt to prove it. My friend who I went with lives in the Boston area. When she got married, her reception was right next to Cheers. When they show the exterior of the building, you can see an awning and that was where her reception was.

I'm sure you are glad to be back home. As for jet lagged, it took me several days and there was only a one-hour difference. It is just traveling itself that really tires me out-waiting in line, waiting for the flight, just sitting there for hours in the plane. And this time we took the redeye which made it worse-leaving at 3 a.m. but we arrived home early in the day but after being awake all night didn't make it easy.

On a totally different note: just tonight, our choir gave a concert to celebrate their 85th anniversary. I don't know why I haven't mentioned this before. :-\\

Anyway - in my 17 year experience with the choir, I'd say this was the best concert we ever gave. 8) I think the audience agreed (judging by the standing ovation we got).

Maybe I can find some footage of the concert online, in case anyone's interested.

Well, the DVD of the concert is finally out! :D And it's worth watching/listening to, if I say so myself. So in case anyone is interested in a copy, just let me know.

(Note: I think it's only fair to let you know beforehand that the vast majority of the recordings are in Dutch)

I really enjoyed that web-accessed choir concert, that you directed me to a few years back.  I was surprised that the songs were sung in English.  It was very nice.  It was really neat having known that it was taking place halfway around the world and that I actually "knew" someone singing and could listen to them sing.  :)

How much does it cost in Dutch Kroener? (I think that's your currency anyways.)  I can always go to the bank and get some.  I have to really think about it though, I've been trying to save for our move to Thailand that is coming in a few months.

EDIT: Just looked up the currency, apparently it's Euros.  Still could pay you in that.

Feel better.

Here it is spring allergies and sinus headaches everyday. I'm very joyful that the weather is warm and sunny again (so far...) but it always plays havoc with my allergies.

Thank you both. I think it's common for people to get sick from stuff in the air. Could be the sudden change in the weather in southern California. Earlier this week it was kindof cooler, but yesterday and today it has warmed up.

And I think I'm gonna stay at home tomorrow, rather than go to the library to volunteer. I also had plans to go out for dinner with some friends, but I'm probably not gonna do that either.

I can throw some euros at that. My mom might like it.  :)

The DVD is € 7.50 a piece. Can I both write you down? PM me about the details, please.

I take it as a sign that the universe is winking at me. Also, that it came on Saint Patrick's day adds more meaning to it. Probably a nice little winky wink that 'he's' or 'she's' watching over me. Either that, or I'm going bonkers!  :D

True story:

One time my mother took us to an old amusement park in Lake George, NY called Gaslight Village. When we arrived, the prices had gone up since the last time we had been there and my mother didn't have enough cash to pay for all of us to get in. Disappointed, we left. My mother decided on a Plan B which was an arcade that was in Lake George. We were there probably less then 10 minutes when my sister found $30 laying on a machine. She gave the money to my mother telling her where it came from. My mother went to the office and told them that this money was found on a machine. The person working there wanted the money. My mother told them no but gave them her name, phone number, & address should anyone come looking for the money. We left the arcade and went back to Gaslight Village. No one ever called looking for their money.

True story.

I once dropped $40 in a grocery store parking lot and when I went back to see if it was turned in...it hadn't been.    :-\\

Another true story.

I was once song laundry and left the laundromat to run an errand. At the checkout I realized the $20 I had in my pocket wasn't there any longer.  I paid with  an atm card and drove back to the laundry mat.  There were new cars in the lot but the space I left was still open.  Before I pulled in I noticed my $20 lying on the ground where I'd dropped it 20 mins before when I took my keys out of my pocket!  8)

...and today I was able to create the year-end financial statements for each of the four years for which I entered the bank transactions. This was important because my supervisor needed this information for tax purposes.

And now, my internship is finished...after three months. (It was originally planned to last for four months, but I accomplished everything I was assigned to do, and it only took me three months.) So now I will continue to search for other possible employment opportunities; that is, until I get hired for something. The internship gave me three months of experience, and my supervisor even offered to write me a recommendation letter (which will be snail-mailed to me).

I am also having to balance the number of treats on offer.  Partly out of fairness and also because James is having to pay to replace a watch.

He took a friend's watch as a joke, put it somewhere "obvious" so the boy could get it back.  unfortunately the boy didn't spot the watch and when they went back to get it later the watch was no longer there.  Obviously someone else took a fancy to it.  :-\\

we are also in discussions with the school about some of the attitudes they think is acceptable.  James would never have thought it was ok to take someone's possessions as a joke before starting here - yet it happens all the time.  Also annoying/disturbing is the fact that someone clearly thought it acceptable to take the watch they found rather than handing it to a member of staff.

Interesting... I watched teens play the 8bit Nintendo game Punch Out... but that's because it's a game I really loved playing back in the day and these kids were really bad at it.

Actually I guess I watch more than that.. on the Fine Bros react channel they have teens and kids and elders playing all kinds of games. I watch that regularly

Well...all of us have our strong subjects and our weak ones. Certain history courses were not my strong suit...and as I found out in my college years, computer science was not exactly my strong suit either. :-\\

Yeah, most people have a subject or two that they aren't very good at. Another one that I'm not very good at is engineering. Doh!  8)

I'm probably not good at that either. I don't really know much about it, which is why I never thought to pursue it. The same can be said about other courses of study.
