New month, time for a new thread! You know the drill...

I don't have any big plans just yet, so I will take things one day at a time. In fact, I hope it's a good month for everyone. :)

BTW, that sucker is HEAVY!!!!

Funny story. She has since left the broadcasting world and is now in the REAL world where she gets weekends & holidays off. (Believe it or not, they laid her off AFTER winner her Emmy.  ::)  ) When she was working with a coach on how to do an interview (something she hadn't done in a LONG time), the coach said something about most employers won't be impressed with resumès. Then the coach read hers and asked, "You won an Emmy?"  :o :o  Have to admit, it is pretty impressive. And yes, I can't help bragging about her. Wouldn't you?

You missed it because it is actually a regional Emmy for her directing a news show in 2012. But regional or not, it is still an Emmy.

Yesterday Dai and James went away for a weekend orienteering coaching.

Elizabeth took a break from revision yesterday so we walked into town to do a few things.  We bought more tops for her to wear for school next year.  The uniform changes for the last two years of this school into a black suit with your choice (within reason) of t-shirts, sweaters, or blouses.

We rented a DVD from the library to watch last night.  It was What If? with Daniel Radcliffe.  Bit of a weird film in that when it was the two main characters it jogged along as a gentle romance.  Whenever another character called Alan was part of the action it dissolved into conversations about sex.

Today Elizabeth is back to preparing for next week's exams so I am trying to quietly do some housework.

It made me cringe a little.  Mainly I was just glad James wasn't also watching!

The DVD comes with an alternative ending but Elizabeth refuses to watch it in case it spoils anything.  I might sneak a watch one evening

Today we started the daunting task of going through the crap stuff in the garage. Started pricing things for the garage sale we are planning on having-next year.  :o :o :o  I figured if we start now, we will be done by then. If we finish this year-great, we will have it then.

I think we got off to a good start. We unburied a lot of stuff that shouldn't have been in the garage in the first place. (And things that should have been put in the garage weren't.) We can blame that on our movers. They were AWFUL!!!! What was really bad was 1.) they didn't label the boxes so we had to open them up so I could look through to tell them which room it went in, and 2.) they would just dump boxes right in front of the door so before long, you couldn't get into the room (or garage).  ::)

I'm NEVER moving again.

Similarly, this weekend I was reorganizing my room, going through a lot of stuff I'd forgotten about, even discarding some things I know I'm never gonna need again; in fact, today I bought a storage box at Target. But I will need one more such box (albeit a different size).

Yeah, I know. Famous last words. But, I can't see any reason to move again. The only way I will is if (Goddess forbid) something were to happen to this house) or we get so sick of this town that we are willing to walk away from our beautiful house that we love so much.

Actually, that is how we got (what we thought) a steal. The previous owner got sick of this town and just walked away and the house was empty for 2 years and was foreclosed. Turned out it wasn't such a steal after what we put into it. But to us, it was worth it. There still is a bunch more we want to do but it will have to wait.

Thanks, I'm gonna eat before I go.  Hubby is fasting, so he isn't interested in food.  I don't think the bar/restaurant would appreciate it if we brought our own food. (But then again, we have taken our own coffee in before, because their coffee isn't that good.)  ;D

He is worried about his weight and diabetes being high.  I don't necessarily agree with fasting for this reason, but then I love to eat, so that has always been difficult.  I love him and will support him if this is what he wants to do.

Oh, by the way, I went back to Target this afternoon and found the needed box. And it was perfect because it was designed to hold scrapbooking materials, and I needed a place to store all the items I collected from my past cruise, as well as leftover scrapbooking accessories.

We did have a good time.  The first round we did horribly, so much so that the host that... er hosts the game gave us a few extra points to keep up with everyone else (ended that round tied for last place.)  Second round we did better, and ended up being 7th out of 11 teams.  We still had fun though, so that is all that matters to me.

Which is why fasting doesn't work.

Going to play trivia tonight with our other married couple friends at a local watering hole.  Last week we got 3rd place (which equates to a $10 gift card at said watering hole.)  Too bad there isn't much food there that we like.

Good Luck. :)

We've had lovely sunny weather all week.  It started to rain last night and was wet all day.  Typical!

Especially as it was the annual picnic in the park charity event.  The Morris dancers contemplated cancelling but with various weather sites promising it would clear up we decided to go ahead.  I think the small audience we got appreciated our efforts!

Home for a cup of tea and a piece of cake.  Now I've got to go out again to fetch James from karate.  Dai and Elizabeth are clearly having so much fun on Oxford today that they are only just setting off back home

So this morning I met with a person at this temp agency, and that went well. Basically the person asked me about my past work experience, what kind of job I'm looking for, how far I'm willing to travel, that sorta thing... and I gave her honest answers to all the questions. Then I had to take a testing exam online...but there were some problems with that, so I'mma need to return to it on Monday.

Yesterday morning while eating my granola I got a weird sensation at the back of my tongue, like a splinter sticking in it.  I couldn't see anything in the mirror so Dai tried to have a look but couldn't see anything.

I drank loads of water, ate a piece of dry bread, tried gargling etc.  Still there.

I mentioned it at work and we figured if it was a piece of food (a sliver of nut for example) it would either wash out with a drink or would get partially digested and would come out. By lunchtime this hadn't happened so I went first to the walk in clinic and then to the city hospital ENT ward to get it checked out.

I am now on a diet of soft food for three or four weeks to let my tongue heal - there is some small swelling right at the back that I've probably scratched.  Lots of ice cream - yay!  but mush for main course - boo

Oh wow! But, at least you are ok.

My step-daughter had surgery done on her jaw and could only eat soft foods for about a month-lots of soups, ice creams etc. She said that everyone was giving her ice cream and she said that she didn't care for it.  :o :o :o  Anyway, the good part of all of that was that she lost a lot weight (not to mention that her TMJ issue was taken care of which was the reason for the surgery in the first place).

This is from the, "You don't see that everyday," files. When I was coming home from work; as I was crossing
the Ben Franklin Bridge I glanced down river...and there, floating up the river was a giant rubber duck.

Turns out the duck was part of of the Parade Of Sails, the tall ships are in town and the duck is a part of exhibit.
Still, it is strange to see a 61 foot bright yellow duck floating up the river.

I took (and failed) pre-algebra/algebra/geometry/statistics so many times from 7th grade - thru college that I probably set a record  ;D

7th grade took pre algebra twice and failed.
8th grade took pre algebra again and bare passed
9th grade took algebra twice and barely passed the 3rd time
10th grade took geometry twice failed
11th grade took geometry again and barely passed
12th grade took algebra II they basically gave me a D just so I could graduate!

Went on to community college and took an entrance exam to gauge aptitude.... guess who failed the math portion???  ::)

took... Pre algebra....barely passed
took algebra.....twice... again.... barely passing the second time
took statitistics and failed...
had enough credits to get my AA in criminal justice

came to UCSB found out I had to pass the statistics class I failed in JR College to get my BA
It took me two tries but I finally passed....barely....

then... if this doesn't suck worst of all.... I took a philosophy class that was titled critical thinking.... I'll be damned if it wasn't a math class in disguise!  >:(
I stayed in the class thru the first test...after sitting down to that test and realizing I didn't know anything I got up and walked out and never went back.... It was 2001. It was essentially the last class I needed to get my degree....  I waited 9 yrs then in 2010 I went to see an advisor who helped me find some other class that I could take that would fulfill the requirement.  I finally got my BA in 2010!

I did ok in 9th grade Algebra. In 10th grade Geometry, we were going over our homework. The teacher asked this kid what (s)he got for whatever question and that person was honest and said that they didn't do the homework. Then she asked someone else and that person, too didn't do the homework. She then went around the room checking everyone's homework. Most of the class (including yours truly) didn't do their homework. Then she said, "Well, since you all think you know what you are doing, you should be able to pass a quiz" and she popped a quiz on us.

The next day, she said, "All of you-with the exception of one, could have done much better." I don't know why, but somehow I had the feeling that I was the one. Sure enough, out of a possible 105-I got 105!!!  :o :o :o  She handed me my quiz and said, "But, I still think you should do your homework." But I LOVED showing her up.  ;D ;D ;D

At the end of the year, she found out that I wasn't going on to Trig. She said, "But you have such a math mind." I told her, "Yeah, but I have no idea what I am doing!" I can do the work, and get the right answers but I don't know how I get from A to B.

Then in college, I took Probs & Stats. And I ACED the midterm!  :o :o :o :o  I was ALMOST exempt from the final-missed it by THAT much-I think I was something like 5 or 10 points from being exempt. Oh well. Didn't aced the final but Yeah, I got my A.

Again, I can do the work but I have no idea what I am doing. And I can't do simple arithmetic without a calculator. Go figure. Can't tell you how many times I will ask Carlos, "What is this plus that?" Or something like that. So much for the math mind, huh? lol.

Same thing must have happened. The duck has been deflated since Thursday night so I guess I was one of the
lucky ones to see the thing floating. It has a few tears in it and it was taking on water they were trying to repair
it and put it on display but as of this morning it was still a deflated heap of yellow mess sitting atop the Delaware.

I was pretty much the same way. The teacher wanted to see the work but on my paper was scrawl and hieroglyphs.
I had numbers and letters everywhere but in the answer box was the correct answer. After awhile he gave up needing
to see my work, he said, "As long as you're getting the correct answers who am I to say the method is wrong." I only
had one year of algebra in three years of math. I never took a final exam in math in high school.

When I started my apprenticeship is when I took up math again, this time is was trig. Good thing too, because I use
it pretty much on a daily basis. I do love math, it has always been my favorite subject.

Elizabeth arrived safely.  And has seen her first kangaroo.  I know nothing more of what she has been doing

On Friday evening James had a karate grading to his next belt.  He is now a brown-white belt and has two more before he can become a black belt.

Yesterday was the end of year concert for the music school.  It is an outdoor concert and people can bring their own picnics or there is barbecue food for sale.  Dai and I ran the bar for the afternoon.  James played a drum with one of the percussion groups and then played glockenspiel with the stage band, performing Summer Nights and All That Jazz.

I know we're supposed to write about famous people on another page, but today I found out that Chandler Riggs came to Rhode Island, Providence, during the afternoon. I wondered why he hadn't been posting on his timeline on Facebook. He likes me a lot said.

So it is evening now. Did some hairstyles on. Now getting ready to settle but can't because I am really excited Chandler Riggs being here! I know hes really young, but so mature and sweet. That is all! Good night everyone.

I used to play that in the high school marching band (the glockenspiel, not popcorn) and for concert band (where I didn't have to march) I played xylophone.  The key range is exactly like a piano.  I think I might still have my practice glockenspiel somewhere at my parents' house (unless she gave it away to someone, my mom is notorious about giving my things away)  ;D

Happy to hear that Elizabeth arrived safely and how exciting to see a real kangaroo (I've only seen them in a zoo, although you could walk through the habitat they had set up for it!!??)

The last couple of days have been EXCELLENT (with the exception of the rain). Had a WONDERFUL visit with my sister, my EMMY WINNING niece, and both or their significant others. We showed them a little bit of the area-it was the first visit to Vermont for both the sigs.  I never once had to do the dishes.  :)  My only complaint (besides the rain) was that the visit was TOO short.  :\'( :\'( :\'(  They arrived Sunday evening and left super early this morning (close to 6). They were planning on getting up shortly after 5. The plan was to get up with them to see them off and then go back to sleep. I couldn't sleep so I got up before they did. As they were eating breakfast, I thought about having a cup of tea but I was still planning on going back to bed. Right after they left, Carlos said, "Well, I'm not going to be able to go back to sleep," so I ended up making a cup of tea then.  I could have made one earlier-oh well.

I am now very tired. I may take a nap later. I have Flight Tracker on and their plane has been delayed.  :(

I think they had a good time, too. Oh, and they LOVED the house.  ;D ;D ;D

I'm very glad the visit was great.  It's nice when family comes to visit.  Sorry that it couldn't have been for longer.
