Spent the day with a family friend who lives near by, so walking slowing in this heatwave was the key.

Good chat and food, and able to view a film.

Today I've been at home, taking care of the house while also focusing on some personal projects. My parents are up at the church, doing the music for a wedding between a young couple that we know.

It is wearing off-which is good. I have my lunch in front of me and I don't want to start eating until the numbness is gone. And it was just topical (not Novocaine). She had to numb me twice because it started wearing off before she was done.

Actually, Sturbridge Villiage IS our destination-for this trip. We may stop at other places on our way home. We only have a few days. Well we've had an interesting couple of days.

Yesterday was a reunion of the Physics department where I used to work and Dai and I met.  It was 25 years this weekend that Dai graduated.

We went to the department in the afternoon for a tour round.  The teaching labs where I mainly worked haven't changed much at all. And in the evening there was a dinner at the university conference centre which happens to be next to the department.  Lovely food and great company.

We had a late-ish night and then were rudely awoken at about 3 in the morning by a car crashing into our garage.  Thankfully this is separate from the house.  However our car is possibly written off and the garage is structurally damaged.

we don't know the full extent of the damage as no one in the insurance claims departments seems to work on Sundays so the car is still wedged into the door of the garage.

I really feel proud that I'm collecting my old vinyls.  I've got things on vinyl that I never thought that I would be able to find again.  Stuff from the 1970s and 1980s.  :)

So I had a really nice birthday yesterday (Saturday).

In the morning my parents and I went to a cafe restaurant for a late breakfast; this place is in Woodland Hills and they have really great food. I chose to do this because my parents had found the place sometime last year and had decided to try it out and really enjoyed the food, and I'd told 'em I wanted to check it out for myself. So we did that, and when I told our waiter that it was my birthday, I was presented with an ice cream dessert (never before had I eaten dessert after breakfast), which I shared with mom & dad. When we were done there, we went down to the coastline (via Topanga Canyon) and traveled along Pacific Coast Highway, intending to go to Zuma Beach. But when we got there, we saw that the place was crowded (which didn't really bother us), but the admission was a whopping $12.50 (which might not have been so bad if we were gonna spend all day there, but not for just an hour or two), so we proceeded up the coast...all the way back into Ventura County, and settled at Port Hueneme beach (which is actually a few short miles from where we live), spending an hour there, walking around, before going back home.
And in the evening, I went to an Italian eatery in Newbury Park, meeting a few friends, and had a nice meal. I ended up bringing part of my meal--an eggplant & pasta dish--home, because I got full.

Dai most of yesterday on the phone trying to get things sorted.

eventually we got someone to remove the offending car from our garage door.  Also the loss adjuster from our home insurance company came round to assess the situation.

As a minimum the back wall of the garage will need to be rebuilt - a surveyor and builder will be round tomorrow to judge the full extent of the work needed.

Our car has not be checked out yet so we don't know if they will repair or replace it - it was slammed into the rear of the garage pretty hard.

Several items also stored in the garage need to be replaced - my bike and the patio furniture amongst other things.  My task for today is to price up replacements.

This morning I was morris dancing at a summer playscheme for special needs children.  We danced for them last year and they liked us so much we got invited back!

We did a few dances, taught them some sticking and dance moves, and then our piper John played a lovely dancey tune and we all just danced around the room.  Some of the children were in wheelchairs and the helpers danced around the room with them.  we also had bells and tambourines to jingle; it was lots of fun.

After lunch various people came round to look at the garage repair job.  Our car was towed away; I don't know if it will be repaired or we will need to replace it.

The front of the garage has been boarded up and the back wall and around the corners slightly will need to come down and be rebuilt. Before that can happen we have to clear out that end of the garage and find somewhere to store everything.  :-\\

Had my first Costco experience today.

Our local Sears (and JCPenny) closed. I used to go to Sears when I was in need of new glasses. So, I went to Lenscrafters. Found a frame that was $73. Ok, that was reasonable-until they added in the lenses-OVER $200!!!! OUCH!!!! And there was absolutely nothing tricky about my script. No bifocals, no retrograde, no nothing. And I still need a couple more pair. OY VEY!

So, I heard that with Costco you can bring in old pair and they will replace the lens for $18 plus the cost of the lenses. So I figured I will give it a go. The thing is, Costco is quite a distance from us. But, we had to go that way anyway today for our granddaughter's 3rd birthday party. So after the party, we went to Costco (well, we past it like 3 times before we found the turn.  :-[ )

So, we bought our membership, and went to the optometry department. So, I handed them an old pair for them to put new lenses in. The cost? $68! Sure beats Lenscrafters. To be fair, I didn't buy any frames. But, even if I bought frames at the same price that I bought the frames at Lenscrafters, plus the $68, it would still be so much cheaper!  I still have another pair to get. I will probably use another old pair.

Went to Dai's mums for the weekend.  We were supposed to go down on Thursday evening but things were still a bit up in the air regarding insurance etc.

We did a bit of gardening on Saturday morning, doing some of the heavier jobs.  Then we went to Caerleon to look at some of the Roman remains.  There is a small part of the bath complex, the barrack houses and an amphitheatre.  We also went to the museum to look at some of the archaeological finds.  It was interesting but the amphitheatre and barrack house lacked information boards I felt.

In the evening we went to Cardiff to the first night of the Welsh Proms season.  The Philharmonia Orchestra played various  of the more popular classics such as Morning and In The Hall of the Mountain King (from Peer Gynt), Elgar's Nimrod variation, the Star Wars main theme and finished with 1812 overture (substituting a large bass drum for the cannon!)

On Sunday we went shopping - James keeps on growing and needed new sandals and t-shirts.  Dai test drove a car we are thinking of buying.  We haven't heard for definite but it has been hinted that our car has been written off.

I think I should keep in mind that a normal person may be able to handle her a lot better than I can, when I am not medicated. This is a HUGELY important detail I cannot forget. Also, I need to watch out my eating habits, I tend to eat a lot, then the next day starve myself, bad, bad habit. This is a formula for emotional ups and downs, this bad eating habit of mine. And when things go up and down that intensely, for anything in life, there's a huge chance for instability, and an explosion!

So basically two things. My mental health and my eating habits, are two things that are too important, especially in a situation like this.

We heard yesterday that the car has been written off so we need to look at buying a new(er) one when the insurance money comes through.

I am going away this weekend to spend a week teaching orienteering at a scout and guide camp.  James is coming with me but will be joining in the activities on offer to the scouts.  I am not quite sure how well this is all going to work and I'm quite nervous.  Unfortunately when I am nervous about something I put off thinking/doing anything about it thus making for last minute packing and planning!

To add to the pressure Dai is picking us up next Friday so we can drive straight to Scotland for a week's orienteering holiday.  So I also have to get clothing and things together for that.

Plus we are still clearing one end of our garage ready for the building work.  No clue when that is going to start so I want to get as much done as possible before we go away.

There's a scab now, but I think that at least 80% of the pimple has been popped. If any more 'gunk' needs to be popped then so be it. Other than that, my nose feels a lot lighter.  :)

Fortune was on my side, at least this time. I was at home, no great occasion, on vacation from school until autumn. I blew my nose and suddenly I felt it (my pimple) popped, and for 15 minutes it wouldn't stop leaking.  ;D

good luck, hopefully you will get hired.

Some of these applications, I haven't even been called in for an interview.

Not too long ago, someone suggested to me that I change the arrangement of my resume so that the work experience is listed closer to the top, and then have my skills listed below that, so that potential employers will see my work experience history first (before seeing my list of skills); sometimes that helps.

Still making applications and getting my resume out there... and today I even helped my accounting instructor grade test papers (of current students in the program). He has said that I could always come to the V.A.C.E. and help him out there; this is a good way to help myself retain the accounting knowledge.

Just checking to make sure you are behaving yourselves.

Weather was wet earlier in the week but has dried up now.  I have taught lots of scouts and guides how to orienteer, not lost anybody permanently (yet) and had fun at camp.  James has a friend that he has been going to various activities with and generally hanging around with.

Scotland next.  Not sure we are near Drummond Castle this time round Patty, but I will definitely ask for a tour if we are anywhere close.

So today I made a job application for an accounting position at a staffing agency that is close to where I live. The application had a place to attach a resume, but no room for a cover letter, so I decided to type a cover letter myself...in MS Word...and print it out and take it to the office where this staffing agency is located. So I drove over there, introduced myself to the person at the front desk, gave her the letter, and told her a little bit about my skills and qualities... and she scheduled me for an interview on Monday morning at 9. So I'm looking forward to that.

I don't know if books are ever done. With mine, I wrote the main story in a couple of months-then it took me about 18 years tweaking it. I'm not telling you this to discourage you. I'm basically saying keep plugging away at it. And then plug away at it. And then plug away at it.  ;)

I don't know if books are ever done. With mine, I wrote the main story in a couple of months-then it took me about 18 years tweaking it. I'm not telling you this to discourage you. I'm basically saying keep plugging away at it. And then plug away at it. And then plug away at it.  ;)

My last comment and reply in the July 2015 section.

Yeah, I'm still a new writer, it was only in 2013 that I figured out that I wanted to become a writer. I am starting to get emotional feelings about my characters, I've heard that this is normal. I used to judge writers for feeling this way, but now I'm feeling that way myself. Got a taste of my own medicine, LOL.

I don't know how long my book will be, but I'm guessing at least 300 pages, it'll probably be longer though. That's something I can't really plan.

Thanks for your advice/advices. Editing will be a pain in the butt though, and then rewriting.

I don't know what genre my book is in, probably thriller? I don't know, there is a bit of comedy in it though. Once I get to page 100, I will feel happy. I know that human nature is not satisfied for long though. Time will tell how my book really goes.

-Peace-
