Yeah. I have two friends who are members of the TV academy... the only way you can go is thru the TV academy...

One of these friends I'm not really close to I mean I'm low on his list when it comes to invites to things but another friend of mine is his number one so..the #1 friend got tickets thru this friend two years in a row and asked me last year and the year before.  He didn't ask me this year so I called my other friend who's a member and she was like yeah let's go! So I'm going with her.  So glad she likes me enough to make me her number one lol

Like friends who are members of the Television Academy (as I stated in a previous post) the Emmys are the television academy's awards ceremony so my friends who are members are eligible to attend and I have been fortunate enough to be invited as their guest.

I'm planning on having a porch sale. (I'm selling my porch  ;) :D ;D ;D ;D ) I want to have a garage sale (but I don't want to sell the garage  ;) :D ;D ;D ;D ) however there is a boat in front of it so people wouldn't be able to get in or out of the garage. Having the sale on the porch will be better right now because we have so much crap stuff in the garage and having a sale in there would make it hard for people to maneuver. We are going to bring out some of the crap stuff from the garage so after the boat sells, next year we can have a garage sale. It shouldn't be as crowded as it would be now.

We are planning on having it on the same day that town is having Applefest. There are only two things to prevent us from having it on that day: 1. The weather. I'm not going to have it if the weather is nasty. (Been there, done that-wasn't good). We can have it the next weekend if need be. 2. Our driveway is going to be torn up.  :o :o  We need to insulate our pipes so they don't freeze this winter (they froze the last two winters). The pipes run under the driveway. I don't know when they are going to do it or how long it will take. Just my luck, it will be exactly when I am planning to have my sale.

Good luck with it.  My landlords are moving. Fortunately they are keeping the house so i get to stay.
I'm having a yard sale when they leave and selling some stuff for them.

Anyone wanna come to Santa Barbara and help

They are quite heavy. When I lifted my niece's, I was surprised at the weight of it.

I found this:

Each Primetime Emmy statuette weighs six pounds, twelve-and-a-half ounces, and is made of copper, nickel, silver and gold. Each takes five-and-one-half hours to make and is handled with white gloves to prevent fingerprints.

What gets me, after she won her Emmy, she was laid off along with a few other people.  ::)  Even though she doesn't care for the job she is doing right now (which she sees as a temp job-for a few years), she loves the fact that she has weekends & holidays off which she didn't have when she was in the news business. She would love to open an independent film producing business with her sig. Unfortunately, there are many independent film producing businesses in her area. (BTW, her sig was not laid off-yeah, that is where they met, at work. But now they don't work together anymore.)

Yeah it's hard to get weekends off in the news industry.

At least she met her hubby before getting laid off!  :)

Tell her Claire Dabes won one after she was fired (My So Called Life) but that didn't bring the show back. She's doing okay now  8)

Thanks.

The best deal they were able to get was with one transfer. They could not find anything affordable that was direct. Same deal with going back; after they get off the ship in the U.S., it will be in New York, where they will fly out of LaGuardia Airport and switch planes in Chicago at O'Hare Airport and fly the rest of the way to L.A.

The phone rang at 6:30 this morning. I thought it was our 2 year old grandson-AGAIN. Nope, it was our new tenants (who moved into our old house two days ago). The upstairs toilet was leaking. Carlos got dressed and went over there. He called me to call the plumber (he didn't have the number with him). The leak was fixed but MAN what a mess. The ceiling in the downstairs bathroom came down-along with the track lighting. Parts of the ceiling in the basement came down, too. This comes after we FINALLY got everything cleaned up from the flooding that was caused by the pipes bursting this winter.

Just what I planned on doing this morning, cleaning up wet sheetrock.  ::)

So, now we have to get a hold of:

1. Our handyman (who is working with our painter today) to repair the ceiling.
2. The electrician to put up new lighting (which we will probably have to buy new lighting).
3. The insurance company and hope they will pay for the plumber, electrician, & handyman and the new lighting.

I told our new tenants, "Welcome to your new home."  :D

The insurance company called in a "drying company" to assess the damage caused by the leak (actually, it was a pipe that the welding came loose). We were told that they had to rip out the walls and our beautiful slate floor!!!  :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'(

Then today, the tenant called and the upstairs shower had a leak. Oh man. Carlos went over there and came back and told me it is "not bad." The caulking around the tub came off. So he recaulked it but they can't use the shower until tomorrow. But, they can't use the downstairs shower because it is all torn up. Carlos said that they can come over and use our shower today.

We think all of this is because the stupid oil company who forgot to deliver oil last winter that caused the pipe freeze up.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

The drying people were over there yesterday (tearing up my beautiful slate floor  :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'( ). Then we have to get someone in there to put everything back-including the slate floor. Don't know if we will hire someone or use someone that the insurance company recommends. We have a $2000 deductible on the insurance policy. Everything else BETTER be covered-including compensation to the tenants. We decided that we are going to give them a rebate on their rent-something like $30-$40 a day while all this is going on. Carlos cleared it with the insurance company so they will pay for that.

Last night Carlos was EXHAUSTED! He went to bed/sleep about 9:30 or so and slept like a rock. He needed it.

Well Jane, it just goes to show ya, IT'S ALWAYS SOMETHIN'!

I can put this in a few threads; Rants, Don't you hate it when, but I chose to put it here.

The Boy and his fiancee knew I was going to be smoking for the holiday. It is a lot of work that
starts on Saturday night. I have to make the brine for the chicken and the marinade for the ribs,
then it is up early on Sunday. 6:00 AM, take the chicken and ribs out of their bath and make the
rubs. Two different meats, two different rubs. Then I have to mix the injection for the chicken and
prepare the wood for the smoker, with chicken and ribs I used a apple and cherry wood mix. Then
Inject the chicken and apply the rub on both. 10:00 am, start the charcoal and get the smoker hot.
10:30 am, put on the chicken and ribs. Then it's 5 1/2 hours of maintaining a 250 degree smoker,
squirting the meat every hour with apple juice. the last 2 hours of cooking the meat is wrapped in foil.

A lot of work, when dinner time arrived The boy said they had already eaten at a friends house and that
they are going out later to another friends and will be eating there as well. I have a table full of BBQ
perfection that no one is going to eat, I was furious.

The only thing that made me feel a little at ease was that even on the BBQ shows, people that do
competition BBQ for a living, avoid doing chicken breast because it is easy to ruin but my chicken
was perfect. Moist, tender, not over cooked, my granddaughter even liked it, the picky eater she is.

;D  ;D If I did live closer you would have had an invite.

I did something that I don't normally do, after we ate I took the pulled chicken and added BBQ sauce
just to preserve the moisture. I usually just use a rub for my ribs, pork and chicken. Once in awhile I
will use a mop for the ribs but that is a rarity. At least adding the sauce I can save the chicken for another
meal, the ribs didn't survive, my granddaughter loves ribs.

Busy, busy day. Stopped by the Post Office to mail off a package. Then I had a doc appointment this morning. Then we went to breakfast/lunch/brunch. Then it was a trip to the Social Security office to get a new card (lost mine in the move). Then to the Co-Op for a few items. Stopped by our financial adviser's office to drop off some papers. Didn't make it to the DMV because they are going to mail my Social Security card and I need the card to get a non-driver's ID at the DMV. Stopped by the grocery store/drug store for some items. Came home, put stuff away only to go back out again-to the credit union that is down the street to opened a couple of accounts-then to the farm to pick up our weekly share of produce and FINALLY home where we can collapse.

But, we witnessed something that renewed our faith in humanity. As we were coming out of a shopping center's parking lot and stopped at a red light, right in front of us, this guy was stopped in the middle of the intersection. It was an older car. He got out and was trying to push the car. We then realized why he was stopped. The guy was a bit older and there was no way he was going to able to push the car. We couldn't help him because we were across the street and there was no way we could have pulled our car to the side without blocking traffic.

Then I saw 2 different cars stopping. About 3 guys got out and helped this guy push his car out of the interception. I was very pleased to see it. Like I said, it renewed my faith in humanity.

Plus Elizabeth and I started pilates on Monday

James had his Chief Scout Gold Award presented to him on Tuesday, then Elizabeth and I went to finish off her town trail/orienteering/quiz.

Wednesday I was morris dancing after fetching James from his karate class

Tonight is the certificate presentation at regional headquarters for James's badge.

Tired and there's no time to shop for food!

Got pics with most of the cast!!! More importantly I wore the Kings of the mic tour shirt I wore when I saw LL in concert with de la soul, public enemy &  ice cube...he saw me in it from the stage and said he likes my shirt  8)
I got two pics and a hug!!!

Then I drove 3 miles. A friend of mine had Mindy Cohn (Natalie from Facts of Life) tell a  story at this s monthly comedy show she puts on! I missed Mindy's piece but I was in time to get a pic with her.... And my friend was happy I made it even tho, technically missed the show, I made an appearance so it counted as support.  ;D

And my friend was happy I made it even tho, technically missed the show, I made an appearance so it counted as support.  ;D

Eventually there will be footage of the show online so I'll get to see it then

Sounds like a great night.

And by the way...my mom & dad were in Reykjavik, Iceland, today (this was the last of three ports in Iceland they were scheduled to visit). Now they will be at sea for the next four days as they sail across the Atlantic Ocean; their next port is in Newfoundland, Canada, next Thursday.

I, too have started many stories over the years. There were only a couple that I actually finished. The first one was when I was in high school which I admit wasn't very good-well, it was ok but things were a bit unbelievable in it. The second one that I finished was the one that I told you all about for my grandkids. I was convinced to write a sequel to that. I actually started to but believe it or not, I got stuck on names. Yeah, I'm using many of the same characters from the first book but it is the new characters that I am having trouble with.

Ok, here is the problem:

First book, Lily & Woody are the main characters, who are 10 years old. They play with fairies in the woods behind Lily's house (that used to be Woody's house). The fairies tell them that girl fairies are named after flowers and boy fairies are named after trees. So, Lily & Woody's names fit that criteria so to speak.

Book Two: Lily & Woody are married and (of course) live in the house. They have 2 kids a boy & girl. It is these names that I am struggling with. The girl's name is actually easy-Ivy, Rose, Daisy, etc, etc. However, I have used them in the first book for the fairies. I don't know if I want to use the same name. (In the first book, there wasn't a fairy named Lily-well there was but she didn't live in the woods where the kids played.) Carlos suggested the name Willow which I do like but Willow is a girl's name and it is also the name of a tree. I was thinking of Forest for the boy's name but I really don't like that. I also thought of the name Sequoia but don't know if that would work either.

If people could give me some ideas, that would be GREAT!!!

Oh and to give you a synopsis of the second book, the fairies habitat is going to be threatened by a fracking company.

In the UK, in Gloucestershire, there is a wooded area of the Forest of Dean, and Dean is also a boys name, but it does not sound powerful enough for a name for your book. Just thinking and suggesting.

The funny thing about this hotel is that the mattresses were on a slant for some strange reason.  I was a bit sore this morning.  We went to the Cora restaurant across the street for breakfast before we left for home.
When I got to the Northumberland area of Ontario it really felt like I was at home because I really didn't feel that way when we were in Guelph. Go figure because I was in Guelph when I was a kid and it really didn't feel like home back then.

Maybe you could look up list of fruit bearing trees, there are some unusual and cool sounding names like:
Anjou, Bartlett, Seckel, Starkrimson, and Forelle from the pear family or perhaps Jonathan or McIntosh
from the apple family but there are so many variety of apples you would have to find a list.

yep, often times it is a work in progress! Over the years I have even written about my real life, especially if something really exciting or eventful happens during the day. In fact, during my last three years in college I would type such things in a MS Word document.

10 days left until my PB concert.  And yes Howard they're going to play all of their old songs and their new songs.  The older fans like the old songs and the new fans love the new songs.
Enjoy, and have a good time!

I just missed my anniversary here!  I registered, roughly, 10 years, 3 days and 13 hours ago.  But I've only been logged on 164 days, 4 hours and 39 minutes.

Feels like I've been here much longer then that.  ;D

Happy Anniversary. :)

Busy day. Went to my acupuncturist appointment. Then we stopped at Home Depot to buy a weed whacker. This was supposed to be an "In & Out" venture-SUPPOSED to be. They had the aisle we wanted closed off because they were moving pallets around.  A woman who was there asked us if there was anything else we were planning on buying. We said no and she said, "Figures." So, we waited about 5-10 minutes before we could get into the aisle. (It took us less than that to pick out which one was wanted.  ::) )

Then we went from brunch and finally to the DMV. I finally got a non-driver's ID. This one will be "enhanced" which means we can cross the border in Canada. So, all you Canadians, we can now come and visit you-aren't you lucky?  ;) :D ;D ;D ;D

Then we went to pick up our weekend C.S.A. share.

I'm at page 87 in my 'book'. I should be at page like 200, or 250 or whatever, but 87 is a bit farther than I expected.

At least I'm back on my book though.
How many words in total for the 87 pages, and how words a day do you try and write?

If I had it my way, I would write like 3-4 pages a day. If u think about the big picture, 87 pages in two and a half years is really weak. I'm not hating myself or anything like that, just stating the truth.
I went through like 9 months where I didn't write, so lots of wasted time.

I'm at page 88 now. It was only in August that I started writing again.

Got to have lunch with my mom, dad, brother and husband today at Golden Corral (a tie-your-feedbag-on-and-eat-until-you-burst buffet.)  I was a very good girl.  Two plates counting a good portion of that being a salad and mostly vegetables (and only one sweet dessert-type thing (a small rice Krispies square (that was meant to be dipped into the chocolate fountain (but I refrained.))  So considering the damage I  could have done, I was reasonable.  But now I'm hungry again  ;D :-junk stuff off to my mom.  She needed a new crockpot, so I gave her mine.  Plus her church is having a yard sale, so I gave her a bag of junk stuff to sell to raise money for her church.  We are plodding along with getting rid of things.  It is taking quite awhile, but we are making progress.  Yay us!

I was having a good hair day today, so I took a couple selfies to try to capture that bit of miracle.  Now I can't find them on my computer.  :-\\ ::)

Love this warm weather but not super hot weather we are having.  The tree out front of our house is already turning leaves colored for autumn and falling off already.  Every other tree is still green, so I wonder if this tree might be sick.  :\'(

Been a good day.

Well, I guess I should probably let you guys know that today I have been hired... as a bookkeeping assistant in a law firm.

Yesterday I received a phone call from my accounting instructor (whom I have been in touch with since I finished the program almost a year ago), saying that he spoke to the supervisor at this place, suggesting that I would be a great fit... and yesterday afternoon I drove over there to meet with said supervisor. It was an on-the-spot interview I also received word that one of my classmates from the accounting course is also working there; she has been there for about half a year, so there's one familiar person; I even got to see her when I went over there yesterday. And this morning I reported for duty, bright and early, at 8, read and signed the employment paperwork, and learned about all the tasks that will need to be done, and the software programs to do them with.

Not sure how long this position is going to be, but for now it is temporary part-to-full time.

I was a pretty good girl over the weekend too.  After my mother and I left our hotel in Guelph we headed across the street for breakfast at Corals.  My mom had eggs over easy with all of the trimmings and I had the crepeomelete with spinach, cheese, and hollandaise sauce with buttered rye toast.  Of course the waitress left a plate of peanut butter and jam, like I needed all of that sugar, and I didn't touch it.  I instead opted to have ketchup on my toast.  ;D

Actually, you should be asking an expert. I think Stephen King writes like at least 3 hours a day, maybe 4. So 3-4 hours a day for him. But he writes fast, so he probably could get 20-30 pages just in 3 hours.

It's just I need to adjust and take little bites for right now!

Stephen King just types not knowing where the story will take him. The only book he did research for was "11.22.63" which was about a time traveler who attempts to prevent the assassination of President John Fitzgerald "Jack" Kennedy. It is a good read too.

I think she means it's good to have something new to add there. One thing prospective employers look at on a resume is work experience and length of time.

It's been a while since you've had a regular job and that short data entry experience you had with that one lady is probably more a detriment than an assist because of the duration. If they were interested in knowing more they could look into it but at first glance it probably raises more questions than adds to your foundation.  You know  :-\\  (just using that as an example) I know you have your library volunteer work and he classes you just took to help punch up the resume. But this is real work and hopefully lasts a while!

I once had a sale that about shortly after noon, the skies opened up and BUCKETS & BUCKETS of rain came down. That deluge lasted at least 20 minutes straight. By the time it was over, everything on the lawn was SUBMERGED!!!

Good luck

That's what I was wondering.

We have a WHOLE bunch of crap stuff-everything from silverplate metalware to a portable dishwasher. IF and I do mean IF everything sells, we will have made over $1000 (not including the boat). But I highly doubt that will happen. I would just like to get rid of a bunch of it. And I would love to get that boat out of our driveway but I doubt that will sell tomorrow.

And this is only a fraction of what we have. After this sale is over, I start working on the next one-which will be next spring.

So I will be on my own for one more day; my parents are scheduled to return home sometime tomorrow night. They've had a nice time on their trip (my mom has been sending me emails and Facebook messages, and I've done the same on my end).

I'm at a point in my life where I can think positive thoughts finally. It takes practice to think positive but I think I'm finally at least at the doorway, or entryway. I've been negative for great reasons and for not so great reasons but at least I can think better thoughts right now.  :)  :)  :)

Manage to get rid of a bunch of crap stuff-but not as much as I had hoped.  :-\\  We were only planning on doing the sale one day-yesterday. But, we made a major booboo. We didn't put anything out on the lawn-it was all on the porch. Even though we had BIG signs, a lot of people didn't see it. So, we decided to go today, too. This time we put some things out on the lawn. It really would have been better yesterday because there were a lot of people out & about yesterday because of the todo in the park. When we put everything away today, there were a couple of empty boxes-which means we got rid of a couple of boxes worth of crap stuff.

Didn't make a lot of money-but definitely made more than we did on our last sale (50ยข  :D ;D ;D ;D )

Now start listing stuff that didn't sell on Craigslist and start getting ready for the next sale-which will be some time next year-TBA.

So my mom & dad arrived home last night, at about 8:30pm PDT. They had been up since very early in the morning (4am Eastern time, which is 1am Pacific), so they were very tired and ready to go to bed. Still, they showed me some of the pictures they'd taken. Today (Tuesday) they took it easy, although my mom did have to go back to work...but only for a few hours.

I will say this, it started as horror, but due to sounding too hackneyed, the horror was cast to one side, and the main character developed into something else, which as far as I know has not been written before.

Who created this arbitrary timeline you think you need to follow. You are as far as you need to be at the time of writing. If you were meant to be at 200 pgs by now you would.

Whether you're not at 200 because of writers block, life interferences or laziness is irrelevant.

You are where you are. Celebrate that and stop racing some imaginary line that only exists in your head.

Waken up early this morning (before 8) by the doorbell. Carlos went down, came back up and got dressed. He had to move the camper van. Then there was banging and such as our driveway was being dug up-STILL banging & such. And then the water was shut off-just as I had planned to do the dishes and a couple loads of laundry. (A good excuse not to do it). At the moment, they are digging a big trench under the driveway.

In case everyone is wondering what this is all about, they are digging up the pipes that lead from the town's water system to the house, reburying them deeper and insulating them so they don't freeze in the winter like they did the last 2 winters. Yeah, it is a pain (not to mention expense) but it will give us a peace of mind and will probably save us in the long run because we won't have to run our water all winter long so the pipes don't freeze. When they get done, then we have to have the driveway repaved but we will probably do that next year.

Busy this week at work as it is our Open Day this coming Saturday.  So we have some extra things to prepare on top of our usual work.

Elizabeth is helping out with tours of the school and James has been asked to help in his schools Classics department

It's good you have confidence you will catch on!

I understand where Karen is coming from with her comment tho. I know it's a
New job and there is a lot to learn/remember.

It's really good that you ask questions but you want to make sure
You don't ask too many questions (if that makes sense). You want to give the impression that you are an independent worker and can trouble shoot issues. I get the feeling you don't like to make assumptions and want clear direction unfortunately sometimes to employers it starts to feel like the employee is incapable
Of thinking for themselves.  Just be wary of the trap. It's a fine line to find that balance between being inquisitive and asking for clarification versus needing 'handholding' the whole way thru a task.

You don't want to make mistakes but you do need to show that you can be decisive...

Wishing you lots of luck in the job Jeff.
