Subject: Gas Prices Over The Years

This is neat. Not much much info is given but simply the cost of gas per each year. I assume it's average price. What was it the year you were born? For me it was $1.19.

31 cents.

88 cents in the year I was able to drive but we could only buy 5 dollars worth at one time and because
my license plate ended with an odd number I could only buy gas on odd number days.

It was $1.17 per gallon when I was born in 1993. The year I started driving it was $3.58 (early 2014, before the price crash, so I used the 2013 price). The price crashing in late 2014 was such a delight! :D

It's more expensive here in Canada, though. We have a lot of gas taxes. And starting this year, they added a carbon tax too.

Is fuel really that expensive in the US?! That's insane! The prices over here mostly fluctuate between $1.10-$1.35 for E10 and regular unleaded. It is an absolute rarity for fuel prices to ever go over $1.50. I remember during the Global Financial Crisis in 2008, most of the petrol prices had risen to $1.75-$1.80 and I thought that was really expensive! I couldn't even fathom paying over $2.00 to fill up my car.  :o

Yeah, America's gas prices are somehow a bit expensive. Even after the 2008 recession, people still flip out about how the 90s had better gas prices, even though it seems rather trivial. I guess it has to deal with how Australia's currency differs from America's.

The prices are in per gallon, not per litre. :P The US is cheaper.

Over here, I remember it was hovering around $1.70 at the beginning of 2008, now it's a decent $1.05. It was better in late 2014 though, when the Canadian dollar was still strong and there were low gas prices. It was around $0.90 then! Best Christmas ;D

According to the link in the first post on this thread, the average cost was about $1.22 per gallon in 1980, up 34 cents from the previous year. That might have been when gas first started to creep over a dollar a gallon in the US.

Try living in the UK, if you think US gas is expensive.  We are paying 1 pound 18 per litre (approximately $1.47) which I think is about $6.68 per US gallon

There is a thread in the 2000s section of this board where prices were tracked for a few years.  It shows the price spike that occurred in 2008/2009.
