The technique I used was to save the required image to a photo folder in my computer, and then change my avatar in Personalized Picture in your Forum Profile.

That was the reason that cause me to struggle last night, I am not technically minded in knowing how to reduced the size of the file. For me eventual image for my avatar, it was a case of seeing an image, saving, then processing it for these boards.

If you're on a computer and happen to have "Microsoft Office Picture Manager", open it with that, then in that program you can use either "Picture->Resize" or else "Picture->Compress Pictures"; either option will allow you to resize your picture.  Certain versions of the old "Paint" accessory will also resize pictures.  Good luck!
