Happy new year everyone

We had a meal at home last night and then played various games - Pictionary, Linkee, Coup and Bananagrams. Then we watched Jools Holland’s Hootenanny for the countdown to midnight.

Today feels a bit weird. Elizabeth and her boyfriend Paul cooked brunch for everyone, but now it seems a long wait until dinner this evening. I will probably end up eating more than on a normal day.

Happy New Year, Everyone. I hope this year will be the BEST!

A new year always seems like a blank slate to me. As a painter is ready to start a new painting looking at a blank canvas. Does (s)he set out to create a masterpiece or just whatever inspires? Who knows, it COULD become a masterpiece or a piece of trash. One never knows.

Just went to day shift this week after working the 3:30-midnight (often until 2 am from forced overtime) shift for the last year and a half. It's definitely been an adjustment but I'm quickly learning to like it.

I'm looking forward to getting off work at a decent time tonight, I might actually go out and do something on a Friday night.

I might actually start having a life again!  :o

King Kullen called me in to come to work early this morning, instead of doing 1-5 I got to do 930am-130pm, with all that snow on the ground there wasn't much happening today, it was pretty quiet.

I had a rather “quiet” day at my office today as well. ‘Twas one of those days in which I had a low volume of work to do.

The trees themselves have yet to be taken down.

I think the Universe was sending me a message. Years ago, Carlos' cousin-in-law gave me a stuffed coqui. For those who don't know what a coqui is-it is a very loud tiny frog. My coqui is bigger than the one she has in this video. And when you squeeze the belly, it sounds like the frog.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOH079Z-veI

The other day, my coqui fell to the floor. When I picked it up, I thought about the cousin-in-law and wondered how she was doing since we haven't seen or heard about her in a while. (She had Alzheimer's.) Today I learned that she passed away.  :\'( :\'( :\'(  Like I said, I think the Universe was sending me a message via that coqui.

Sorry for your loss, Cat and Carlos.

Back to work tomorrow for me.

I took Dai’s mum home last Monday. Elizabeth went back to Durham on Wednesday.

James and I took down the decorations and tree on Thursday and Friday. Yesterday afternoon Dai went across to Lincoln for a first aid course. I went with him and had a look around the cathedral. Today we were doing bits and pieces of decorating, just touching up the paintwork in places.

And today we put away all the storage boxes that contain decorations. Since we have some new items this time around, we had to repack everything a little differently.

After moving into this house almost 8 years ago, I lost a fairly new pair of ballet shoes. After looking for about a year or so, I went out and bought another pair.

One of my New Year's Resolutions is to clean out my closet. I already took all the clothes out and sorted them into what stays and what goes. Today, I started going through all the other crap stuff I have in there. I have several bins which I store mementos. I moved one of the bins that was on a shelf and there were the ballet shoes. That bin was sitting on them for all this time. And because it was so dark in there-and the clothes made it even darker, I did not see them. That was probably the reason I put the bin on the shoes in the first place. I didn't see them. So, now I have TWO pair. But that is fine. I knew they had to be SOMEWHERE in this house.

As I go through everything, I wonder what else I will find.

Dai took James back to university on Friday.

Yesterday Dai and I were up in the Peak Disrict doing some orienteering coaching. Dai had planned the various activities and I went with him to help put out the markers and then work with a group of teenagers on the various techniques they were looking to improve. It was quite cold and one or two participants didn’t have enough warm clothing available. Luckily we had some spare to lend out.

Today we drove back up to compete in an orienteering competition on moorland near to where we had been yesterday.

So, today I finally activated my "Luxe" FitBit device. I had received it for Christmas, but for the past four weeks I was on the fence about using it. I wasn't sure if I could use that one and the Alta at the same time, but I found some info on the FitBit web site that says you can use two FitBit devices simultaneously. I mean, the Luxe has way more features than the Alta, but I still like the Alta, and will continue to use it until it can't be used anymore. I can still use the FitBit app (on my smartphone and tablet) to sync both devices, and they will both show my current number of steps (and other statistical information).

Orienteering event yesterday at Chatsworth park. After our runs Dai and I ran the start for the shorter courses. It was a nice area and a nice sunny day (except for the gusts of wind from Storm Malik). We were to the south of the main storm path. Elizabeth messaged later that her garden fences had blown over.

Today was the Midland Championships in Sherwood Forest. Dai won his age group race, so he has a lovely trophy to keep until next year.

At home yesterday we started the process of pulling up the carpet in the hall, stairs and landing. We are having a new one fitted soon and doing this part of it saves us some money and means we can try and stop the floor boards from squeaking before the new carpet goes down
