Anyhoo, today was VERY busy at my office today. I almost didn't get everything done before it was time to leave. And we still don't know who our next employee is gonna be or when they'll be starting.

However, on the 19th of this month it'll be a whole year since I became full time!

Good luck with that!

I took care of mine in February, had them done by a professional...and got my refund checks shortly afterwards.

So, on Monday we’re gonna have our carpet cleaned. Therefore, this weekend we’re doing some serious housework; gotta make sure nothing remains on the floors come Monday morning. I will be at work, of course, but my parents will be at home to let the carpet cleaning guys in and do what they need to do. It’s a challenge to find temporary places to store certain things. But we’ll make it work somehow.

..and tonight we are almost finished with getting things off the floor (well, my parents have finished their part; I’m not quite finished with my part). The carpet cleaning crew is scheduled to arrive after I leave the house to go to work; my parents will let them in. The carpet will take all day to dry; when I get home from work, it should hopefully be dry.

Some good news to report today: my boss told me that she has finally hired a new employee to replace the one who left three weeks ago. The new person, a woman, will start on Wednesday this week. This will relieve some of the stress that just the two of us dealt with over the last three weeks.

The carpet got cleaned yesterday, and now it’s finally almost completely dry.

The new employee started today. She seems like she will be a good fit. My boss and I showed her around the office suite, explaining what was what, and how to handle everything. At lunchtime we all sat together around the conference table (I placed an order from Panera, which I picked up today) and had a pleasant conversation, as we got to know our new employee. :)

Just got back from a trip to the local park. We popped in the cafe for a cuppa and a scone while we were there.

Have spent some time over the past couple of days contacting companies to get my m-i-l removed from various mailing lists. She has two or three catalogues a day arriving. At least two companies have said that she is not a direct customer with them, so she forgot to say not to pass her address on at some point.

So, today we continued to celebrate my dad's birthday. We did so in the afternoon by going out to a nearby winery for a painting session. (We already signed up for it at least a month in advance.) All of the attendees were instructed (by the person leading the session) to paint a picture of a sunset at sea, with step by step instructions on putting the elements together...and all the colors needed to produce it. In the 2+ hours that we were there, we each created our paintings a little differently, but with the same general outline.

Best of all, while we were there, I happened to see someone I knew: a woman I had met in a networking group that I joined ten years ago. She remembered me, and was glad to see me (I even introduced her to my parents). She currently works at the winery where the painting session was held.

I have just posted a picture of the painting I made, in the artwork thread in the "Say Cheese Photos" section.

Dai, James and I went to South Wales for the Easter weekend to go orienteering. There is a big event every Easter.

Dai’s mum stayed here and Elizabeth and her boyfriend came to stay the weekend.

We actually stayed in Dai’s mums house and cleared some of the kitchen items. We brought some stuff back with us, binned all the out of date food and cleared more paperwork out of the drawers There is still furniture to sort out

Anyway, my dad has a surgical operation scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. He's gonna have sinus surgery. (My mom will be taking him to the place where he'll have the operation done, and I'll be driving to work.) So, while we're confident that the operation will go well, I want ya'll to keep him in your prayers. :)

Tomorrow after I get home from work, I'll find out how it all went.

Got a letter in the mail from the federal government about how much I'm entitled to get for my retirement (CPP) and received another letter in regards to my  seniors dental care program. Will be turning 65 in about 6 weeks and that's when they all kick in.
Meanwhile my son is finally, finally getting married (no date yet, they are looking for a church and date). He dated his girl for 6 years and wasnt sure until recently. When I dated my (now wife) I kinda knew right away, he's lucky she hung on for 6 years.
And that's the way it is in April 2022 in my family.

TBH, the past week was challenging.  But needed.  A relative just had a baby prematurely with health concerns, the mom had abdominal surgery, and the surprise complication being the dad had a recent accident where he busted up his shoulder and arm.  They already had four kids 9 and under (baby makes 5).  Not to mention they just moved into a "new" old house and weren't completely unpacked.  Due to their injuries neither can drive now (both usually drive).  Our job was to provide any assistance to them we could over the week (including rides to & from doctors/hospitals etc. or wherever, caring for and feeding the other kids, shopping, tons of laundry and dishwashing, and lifting everything as the parents are limited).  All told that ran us ragged.  :o  But it was a real lifeline to them.  It was good to make it through that tough week (even as we will miss the relational time with everyone).  Thankfully they have more assistance lined up for this week.

Incidentally the drive takes 7.5 to 8 hours.  We had a short detour on the way home adding a half hour but otherwise easy traffic.  Going down it wasn't too bad except for the snowstorm thru Linn county Missouri.

Well... seems rather tiring (for lack of a better word), but you did a good thing for them. O0

Thanks - tiring is a good choice of words.  But we believe we helped them.  And it was good to connect - especially with the kids.

Three day weekend. Tomorrow we are going to a cheese fair. Lots of different artisan cheeses, chutneys, breads and crackers to taste and buy.

Sunday I will be Morris dancing as part of a May Day celebration. There will be a folk group, community choir and maypole dancing as well.

No plans for Monday yet

Nothing really eventful going on with me on this final day of April. Guess I needed some "down" time. (However, I did get exercise this afternoon.)
