Now somebody pllllease tell me again what the heck that's supposed to mean. I mean, was it his attempt at naming a dance after himself? I missed something....Didn't I?   ???

:-*  We may never know what that means, maybe it has no meaning at all.  But if it is a dance, I prefer Wang Chunging over Walking Like an Egyptian.

Hi Hairspray

Only three months late in answering !  I don't know if you had more answers that got lost in the you-know-what... >:(

At the time of their first appearance in Australia, I remember the story going round that Wang Chung meant 'Perfect Pitch'.

If you enter Wang Chung Perfect Pitch in a search engine, you get a lot of varying responses.  However, to say "Everybody Wang Chung tonight' doesn't tend to make a lot of sense...?

My favourite comment from the search is :

"Ok I know it is chinese for "perfect pitch" bit it still
sounds like a porn star (Hong Kong's answer to John Holmes?)"   ;)

Hey thanks, man! I'd almost forgotten about this query. I lot of info. and responses to this and many other queries were lost, unfortunately. I don't think the mystery was ever resolved, however. I most definitely appreciate your reply.  :)

LOL!  :D You've found my comment on Chucky's old "Stupid Band Names" page!

One of the other links I found seems to confirm what I remember reading back when "Dance Hall Days" was in the charts, quoted from the band. (though I didnt follow the link). They used to spell it "Huang Chung" but people couldn't pronounce it, so (before they had any chart success and I guess before "Everybody Have Fun" was written) they changed the spelling. If the band put out various different explanations of their name themselves, they wouldn't be the first band to do so.

If you look in the "Band Name Origins" page of amiright.com, it says that Wang Chung is the sound a guitar makes when you strike a string. They even demonstrated it on American Bandstand, and a skeptical Dick Clark went "wang...chung". :D
