Subject: She can't really have... can she?

Written By: philbo_baggins on 04/24/02 at 09:04 a.m.

Looking at the new parody entries, I notice there's a parody to "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", the original artist is .... BRITNEY!!!!

Now, ignoring the inevitable conclusion that somebody out there doesn't realize that the Stones might just have got there first (like, before BS was even born), but please don't tell me she's ruined this song, as well as "I Love Rock n Roll"...

8)  First off, it boggles my mind that the parody author actually thinks BS is the original "Satisfaction" artist.  And second, is nothing sacred anymore?  And I'm not referring to her "barely there" look, it's run it's course already (yawn).  She always looks the same, sounds the same and moves the same (double yawn).  But "Satisfaction"?????? C'mon, that is such a Stones classic, big part of rock and roll history, no one can do this song justice tune, know what I mean?  I guess she got tired of singing the same songs over and over and over again, and obviously can't write one of her own (doubtful if she can even read music).  All I can say is I'm glad I don't watch award shows, music or otherwise.  If I had've heard that tune coming out of her I probably would've hurled.  8)

Didn't Devo do Satisfaction also? I have some vague MTV memory of this....

BTW, Prairie Rose, I see you are in Detroit. Did you happen to catch the Stones at the Pontiac Silverdome in 1981?

Amen to that.  But if she covers "Hallowed Be Thy Name", I'm taking out a contract on her :-)

well, i guess that answers the question about her writing songs.  i don't understand how all these teenybopper singers can be called musicians or artists.  there's nothing artistic about songs that are a dime a dozen.  and i don't feel that calling them musicians is accurate either because there's really nothing musical about what they do...they just 'sing' at the top of their lungs with little or no variation to what they do with their voices.  where's the finesse?  where are the dynamics?  where are the accents?  and last, but certainly not least, where are the instruments?  i'm so sick of all this synth and dubbed over crap.  o.k. i'm done ranting about this for now.

Who actually wrote "Satisfaction"? (too lazy to search  :-[ )

The reason I ask is that the local video show (Rage) sometimes plays a wicked video of Otis Redding doing a live version, and he's the kinda guy that *could* have written it originally...

Here the songs that Britney has ruined (that I know of and that I care to know of):

"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones
"You Got It All" by the Jets
"The Beat Goes On" by Sonny and Cher (Sonny must be rolling in his grave)
"I Love Rock and Roll" by Joan Jett

Drives me nuts when I see her credited with those songs on lyrics sites.

Now I'm praying that she doesn't ruin "Here Comes The Sun", "A Hard Day's Night", or "Come Together", all by the Beatles (or anything else by the Fab Four).

Yeah Zella, I was at that concert.  Main floor. No seats, packed in like sardines standing through the whole show, it was great!!  A week later I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant with my second child.  Alas, she is not a Stones fan, and thankfully she was not born deaf!!!! 8)

I haven't heard it (thank God) but probably the reason it's so bad is cause it was actual entries from her diary, and that's why she got credit for helping write it.  She probably wants people to "take her seriously" as an artist.  Yeah right.

I had seats up in the ozone. But about a couple of songs in, we went down and sat on the stairs much closer. The security people were great--they didn't make us move away. I've seen the Stones a half dozen times or so, but that concert was the best ever. I can't believe I've discovered someone else that was actually there!! BTW, I missed Iggy--got there too late. The one opening act I ever wanted to see and I missed him....

We missed Iggy too, we parked so far away and had to walk forever, it was bitter cold, remember?  That was my first and only time to see the Stones, but I've been to a jillion concerts, and I rate that one in the top 5 for sure.  You are right, security was cool as hell that night.  It was a great time.  I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it.  Did you catch Mick on SNL last Saturday?  He's still cool, even if he is getting old.  I really liked the second song he did.
Peace out,

We missed Iggy 'cus we were driving around town; I remember stopping down by the river, and we lost track of time. I do recall hearing later that Iggy got booed off stage, which really surprized me and saddened me. :( I can't remember the weather--don't even recall what month it was. I still have the ticket stubbs somewhere. I was never a big Mick fan; I always liked Bill, and then later when Ronnie joined I usually watched him and Keith the most. I seem to recall a lot of fun silliness going on between Mick, Keith & Ronnie at that show.  :D I saw them twice that year a week earlier near Cleveland--(2 friends and I won about 20 pair of tickets from WMMS), but Detroit was definately the best.
