Subject: Jon Astley, "Jane's Getting Serious"

Written By: ChuckyG on 06/06/02 at 12:18 a.m.

I just transcribed these lyrics, and I would appreciate a second set of eyes to proof read it... I couldn't find them anywhere online, which I thought was truly a crime.

Jon Astley - Jane's Getting Serious

I like to get up, with my partner in crime
We love to dress up, have ourselves a good time
We have an understanding, She could never be mine

We get on so well, There is no pressure on us
It's a relationship, Based entirely on trust
No complications, You will not see me focus

Come around eleven, and it's time to get home
I'm going her way, but I can't leave her alone
But she's looking at me, as if I'm something she owns
Oh, Jane's getting serious (Jane)
Jane's getting serious, I've got to do something 'cause
Jane's getting serious (Jane)
and I could get serious too

She introduces me, to her friends around town
She gets approval, I say I can't stick around
The writings on the wall

So come around eleven, and we're on our way home
I can't leave her here, but I should leave well alone
Cause she's looking at me, as if I'm something she owns

Oh, Jane's getting serious (Jane)
Jane's getting serious, I've got to do something 'cause
Jane's getting serious (Jane)
and I could get serious too

So I'm pretending I'm not imbetween
the devil and the deep blue sea
And I can not believe, that I would ever admit
that I'm begining to take Jane seriously

And come around eleven, we're still on our way home
All dressed up, and nowhere to go
But all along I really should have known

That, Jane's getting serious (Jane)
Jane's getting serious, I've got to do something 'bout Jane
Jane's getting serious (Jane)
and I could get serious too
I could get so serious (serious)
Jane's getting serious, I've got to do something 'bout Jane
Jane's getting serious (Jane)
and I could get serious too
Jane's getting serious (Jane)
Jane's getting serious (Jane)
Jane's getting serious (Jane)
Jane's getting serious (Jane)

I love this song!  :D

Heinz Ketchup sampled this in the 90s for a commercial.  I believe Matt "Joey" LeBlanc was in it.

I didn't go grab my CD, but it sounds right in my head!  Guess I'll be listening to this CD tomorrow.  Thanx Chucky!!   ;D

I'm trying to remember, did the video of this have dancing gorillas? (well, men in gorilla suits)  A kinda cheap Tarzan theme, with "Jane"?  I think my cousin & I borrowed part of the gorillas' routine in our Funky Dance.  :P

While on a music-buying trip over the weekend, I ran across a copy of JA's 1987 album, Everyone Loves the Pilot (Except the Crew), on vinyl LP, and remembered your inquiry here. Much to my surprise, Atlantic did not issue the LP w/ a custom inner sleeve (where an album's song lyrics are commonly found), nor were there any lyrics printed on the back of the jacket! Sorry, ChuckyG... :-(

well.. not a biggie...

I've begun collecting lyrics, I'm trying to gather up about 4,000+ of them.. but I doubt I'll type to many in.. I think it would take too long to do the ones I'm unable to find..

Thanks for this post! Went nuts over "that song in my head." It started when my plumber, James, handed me his estimate. "Lord," it suddenly popped into my brain, "James' getting serious." ... "Hey wait! That sounds familiar..."

So, in gratitude, the lyrics as they sound to my ear. Very slightly different, like so:

Jon Astley - Jane's Getting Serious

I like to get up, with my partner in crime
We love to dress up, have ourselves a good time
We have an understanding, she could never be mine

We get on so well, there is no pressure on us
It's a relationship, based entirely on trust
No complications, you will not see me focus

Come around eleven, and it's time to get home
I'm going her way, I can't leave her alone
But she's looking at me, as if I'm something she owns
Oh, Jane's getting serious (Jane)(oh)
Jane's getting serious, I've got to do something 'cause
Jane's getting serious (Jane)(oh)
and I could get serious too

She introduces me, to her friends around town
She gets approval, I say I can't stick around
The writings on the wall

So come around eleven, and we're on our way home
I can't leave her here, but I should leave well alone
Cause she's looking at me, as if I'm something she owns

Oh, Jane's getting serious (Jane)(oh)
Jane's getting serious, I've got to do something 'bout
Jane's getting serious (Jane)
and I could get serious too

So I'm pretending I'm not caught in between
the Devil and the deep blue sea
And I can not believe, that I would ever admit
that I'm begining to take Jane seriously

(Bridge)

And come around eleven, we're still on our way home
All dressed up, and nowhere to go
But all along I really should have known

that, Jane's getting serious (Jane)(oh)
Jane's getting serious, I've got to do something 'bout Jane (serious)(Jane)
and I could get serious too
I could get so serious (serious)(Jane)
Jane's getting serious, I've got to do something 'bout
Jane's getting serious (serious)(Jane)
and I could get serious too
Jane's getting serious (Jane)
She's getting serious
Jane's getting serious (Jane)
Jane's getting serious (Jane)
She's getting serious...

****

As you say, no biggie. This is more of a belated "thank you" than anything else.
