Subject: I wrote an opera

Written By: Tone-Def on 07/05/02 at 11:36 p.m.

But i don't know how to write music so i took music from songs that either are popular now or used to be popular and are still fairly well known. I think this would be a good place to submit my opera... 1 song at a time over the span of several weeks... i might not submit the whole thing since the first half has a lot more emphasis on humor than the second half. And i know ratings aren't going to give me good feedback considering a lot of the songs make no sense if the earlier songs aren't taken into account and a bunch arent particularly funny. So if anyone has any comments about my opera i'd like if you talked about it in this thread or made a new thread about it or you could send me a message if you want. And  i will make sure to indicate that a song is part of the opera in its title

PS Tone-def - had a look at your first offering: can't you choose a song I know next time ;-)  Still, it's interesting enough to make me wonder where you're going with the opera concept...

The song i posted was the one that started it... and also the only song in it that parodied a song that was never very high on the national charts (except for the last one which uses the same tune as the 1st) I'll be typing up the 2nd and 3rd ones tonight but now to continue working on my chinese food song. oh, p.s. the entire opera is 23 songs long and was written over almost 2 years with most being written last summer.

I've also written (rock) operas. I most recently completed the second draft to my script for a Britney Spears album/movie rock opera entitled, "Mrs. Kilroy Was Here." My only problem is the fact that the script is only ten pages. The only resolution is for Britney and I to write songs so long, nobody notices how short the film would be otherwise. I have written some of the songs for "Mrs. Kilroy," but I have removed and added songs, and will rework songs that need to be reworked. I actually do know how to write music, BTW. I can't wait to read your opera.

What songs did you spoof and what decades are those songs from? That might help me to locate some of the songs in the opera.

so far the songs i've posted parodies of in the opera are (in order)

"farmhouse" (mustard fight) by Phish - i think 2000 but posibly 99
"mr. roboto" (ketchup of Tomato) by Styx - 1983
" Come together" (stop fighting) by the beatles - 1968
"life is a highway"(you are annoying) tom cochrane early 90's (but may take out of opera due to poor reception and i never liked it much anyway)
"Tainted love" (Tainted rugs) softcell - early 80's
"Bohemian rhapsody" (ketchupian rhapsody) queen - both 70's and 90's
" Build me up buttercup" (butter and company) foundations - originally released in 60's but i think rereleased in 90's

And the other songs parodied - in order of their pl;ace in the opera (which i will probably resume posting soon)

"Paint it black" - rolling stones - 1966
"It's gonna be me" - N 'sync - 2000
"If you're gone" matchbox 20 - 2001
"Angel" - Shaggy - 2001
"American Pie" Don Maclean - 1972
"Don't wanna miss a thing" Aerosmith - 1998
"Free-Falling" Tom Petty - late 80's
"Jesus Christ Superstar" Murray head - early 70's
"follow me" uncle kracker - 2001
" Shot through the heart " bon jovi - 80's

"Livin On a prayer" Bon Jovi - 80's
"Hotel California" eagles - 1976
"Here is gone" goo goo dolls - 2002

Last song is  to "farmhouse" same tune as 1st
