Subject: Name the song?

Written By: BlueMak on 07/06/02 at 09:13 p.m.

Hi!

First of all I am glad I found this site.  I love the 80s. :-)

Now, on to the question, there is this song I heard some time in the early to mid 80s propably. (I was born in 76).  I don't remember much about the music, than I liked it, and I have no idea of the singer/group, I think the singer was a man.  (I know...I know...)   So, you are going to ask, what do I remember?  Well, the only thing is one very small part of the lyrics which was heard for more than once during the song.  That part is "Life is life".  Or at least thats what I think it was, it could be "life is knife" or something I guess.  But, I am pretty sure it talked about life and hmm, perhaps power? I wish I could remember.  :-(

Well, if anyone knows/remembers, please tell me. :-)

Your "mystery song" is "Live is Life" by Opus, a moderate hit here in the U.S. in the Spring of '86. It was off the group's 1986 album, Up and Down. Unfortunately, the album is long out-of-print, although it did come out on CD here in the U.S...

Don't take it the wrong way. :-)

Thank you very much!  I was looking for this song for years.

I have one more query, although I dont expect ANYONE to answer this since its even worse than my first one.

Get ready for this....

I think it was in english...but the first part of the song it had someone saying something (not singing) for few seconds in German....Perhaps it had something to do with war, or not, since I think there were some explosions or such in that first part of the song.  I don't speak German and I don't remember the rylics (in english?) at all.  All I remember is three things.  1) that I heard the song in the late 80s, I think...  That I liked the song a lot, and that I lost the only tape that I had it in in a birthday party.  >:(

As I said I don't expect anyone to know it but thanks for reading this anyhow. :-)

You may be thinking of "Rock of Ages" by Def Leppard, a big hit here in the U.S. in the Summer of '83. The song has a spoken four-word intro of nonsense lyrics, which are often mistaken as German, since they are German-sounding. The rest of the song is entirely in English, just as you described...

If that's the song, it was off the band's classic 1983 album, Pyromania. And fortunately, the album is still in print today on CD here in the U.S...

:-)

No, thats not it.  I am pretty sure it was german (what I remember) and it was for a few more seconds, almost like telling a story or something.

Thanks for trying though.  You sure got some good memory.

Maybe you could try with "The Happiest Days Of Our Lives", from "The Wall", of Pink Floyd...

There are some sounds of helicopters or something like that and a brief intro in german (maybe it's not german, but definitely sound like german to me  :))....

Maybe some other song from "The Wall" too...

Nice Try!

But, its not it.

I am pretty sure its not from the wall.

I remember the guy who was speaking in german? was like narrating or something and it was a bit longer than that.  I guess should be more careful with my tapes. :-(

Although this is/was a hopeless quest, thank you everybody for your efforts. Appreciated.
