Can anyone help me with a song and artist
I think the first line of it is something like
Its 4o'clock (4 am) in the morning ..... then it goes on about cigarettes in the ashtray
All I can remember is that it was out in 1990 around Christmas time - if not before and it was sung by a woman and the first two or three lines had no music
Please someone has to know what it is

Thank you for that - but unfortunately neither of your suggestions are correct - I have a feeling that the song was about a conversation which took place late one night - I know that it made the charts in the UK and I remember it around Christmas time 1990.
Any help is greaatly appreciated - do you know if there is a book or website which lists all the records/songs released in a certain year or something. I know that as soon as I see it, it will all come flooding back to me.

I have found it - taken me forever but with all your help on this wonderful notice board I have managed to find it - via Leo's Lyrics and their forum
The song was/is Beverley Craven and Promise Me - I knew she had something to do with a John - going back to John Craven and NewsRound or whatever it was called - it is funny how your memory tries to help. Anyway, even though it was glass of wine and not coffee cup I have found it and thanks again for all your help
