I would like to understand the lyrics to this song by Stehen Stills more completely, what is the significance of the Southern Cross? It is a constellation that can be seen in the Southern Hemisphere.

I suppose it's the same reason why The Manic Street Preachers wrote a song called "Australia" (a great pop-rock song, by the way).

If you come from the Northeren Hemisphere, to go to a place where you can see the Southern Cross is to travel very far from where you started. It's a sign that you are running as far as possible from whatever you've left behind...
