Subject: It was Elton John!!!! (formerly Who Song Help)

Written By: PF4Eva on 09/25/02 at 07:19 p.m.

What is the name of that Who song with the lyrics "And he shall li-iiive oooooon" and a violin solo that sounds like Britney Spears' "Last to Know"? I want to play the two songs simultaneously. Thanks.

The song by the Who with the electric violin solo in it is "Baba O'reilly."  I hope that helps.

Nope, not "Baba O'Reilly." It has an acoustic violin (or keyboards, if I was wrong the first time). It sounds exactly like Britney Spears' "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know." It goes something like this:

And he shall liiiiii-iiiiiiive ooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnn!!!
Do do do do-do-do-do do doooooooooooooo

Hope that helps. It is the most played Who song on classic rock radio.

The only Who song that gets regular airplay I can think of not on that list is "Who Are You"

It is not one of any of the songs you listed. I am on the verge of giving up. It would help if you could hear the melody. The URL to the Britney song is:

http://www.geocities.com/tagonist/britney_spears_-_Dont_Let_Me_Be_The_Last_To_Know.mid

Maybe hearing the first ten (?) notes of that will help you guys figure out the answer.

Are you sure this is a who song?  Weve basicly gone through all the popular ones....plus your link doesnt work

It sounds like Dont let me be the last to know...I dont remember that sounding like any who song...I think it sounds a little like the verses to Argents "Hold your head up" but I highly doubt thats it...

could it be these:
The kids are alright
Substitute
out in the street
dont look away
disguises
amazing journey
acid queen
do you think its alright?
sensation
pictures of Lilly (how did I forget this one?)
anyway, anyhow, anywhere
love reign O'er me (Man How did I forget this?)
Long live rock (How did I forget this...its one of my favorites!)
quadrophenia
sister disco
eminence front
one at a time

I am looking on the back of my shirt from the whos 1989 "the kids are alright" tour which has all their albums from 1966 to 1982...I hope this helps

If it's not by The Who, then God only knows who it's by. But all I know is that the song has a violin in it and it sounds like the Britney song. If that URL I gave you didn't work (worked for me), then you'll just have to look for the song yourself, either on MIDI or on the Oops I Did It Again album. I'm sure you know what Who (?) song it is, but just don't know the name of it. The violin solo in the Who (?) song mimics the intro to Britney's "Last to Know." I don't know how to make this any more simpler!!!!!!!

"It is the most played Who song on classic rock radio. "

I'm pretty sure that's wrong.  Anyway, I still have no idea what song you're talking about.

Hi,

There is no WHo song with that as a lyric.   Are you sure you are not thinking of "Levon" by Elton John?

I don't understand how it was Elton this whole time! He sounded too Roger Daltrey to be Elton. Elton John was in the Tommy movie, so that's the only Who connection I can think of.

:P :P :P :P :P I really goofed....

so which song was it...Levon? Cause I dont think that line was in Levon either (though I must admit, out of all of Elton Johns songs, that is the one I know the least..)

She misheard the lyric.  It wasn't "he shall live on," it was "he shall be Levon."
