Subject: william tong domination

anyone checked out the voting results lately?? good lord! our highest rated song pacing-wise was 6th weekly behind 5 WILLIAM TONG SONGS! that's impressive. he may need his own board or voting results or something. Plus sometimes they get irritating because I'm a hardcore right-wing military member. Just an observation. I guess through frusteration all the rest of us can do is shake our heads and try to do better next time. But as for William... it's good to have someone set the bar, it gives the rest of us something to strive toward.

Personally, I never liked Tong's style of parodying.  I think he forces his rhymes too often.

I think Bill is good at writing, the only thing is, I don't read his parodies, the reason being I'm from Canada and so US politics just doesn't interest me, because I don't hear about it at all. I still know all the important stuff though, like who the president is, lol.

Why should he have his own voting result polls?  He's just another writer.  If some people tried hard enough, they could probably just as well have 5 songs or whatever in the top 10 for pacing.  He deserves it, too, IMO.  I mean, it's just the way they votes go.

"Forced?"  As in made-up words, or exaggerations?  I don't agree...

"A Horse With No Name"
Original by America

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la...

"Of Course He's To Blame"
Parody by William Tong

It's the first part of the century,
And we're trying to get through life.
Right wing rants we heard were shocking things.
In our land, their shills now reign.
With Bush king, we bet he can't fly, just because
He will hide from the crowds.
This cheater's not very sound, that's why
His regime will run aground.

He stole the election, so of course, he's to blame.
He's no good, and this lout has no brain.
The election, from last November's the game
That was tainted, 'cause the Supreme Court proclaimed:
Dumb king Dubya Shrub was the winner now...
Dumb king Dubya Shrub was the winner now...

=====================================

Then again, I'm no fan of Bush.

Well, I'll admit that was one of his better ones.  But the other problem I have with him is he'll use the same rhymes over and over again.  How many times has he used the words "reign," "crown," "king," "Shrub," "Bush Baby," to end a line?

and I must say some of the songs he parodies are a little short/kidlike/unimaginative.... I'm still waiting for "Bushy Pokey" so tong can tell us to put our "Right Wing in"

Dubya is very much the imperial pResident, so those descriptions are appropriate, IMO.  Bush is an easy target because he has more nicknames and foibles than most politicians.  Many "love" songs can become "Shrub" songs - does anyone say "love" or "baby" is overused in song lyrics?

I think this is what you're looking for.  This was written for his web site, so that's probably why it's not posted at Amiright:

I agree with Loosekanen in the regard that Tong does give us something to strive for.  His songs are at the top for a reason, they appeal to a broad audience, and while we may not all think that each one of them is hilarious (we can't all write great parodies every time), he has established himself, and gets votes for that reason.  He has earned it.  Therefore, I know that his "domination" motivates me to write good parodies, because I want to have 2, 3, 5 songs up there.

you should also keep in mind two things:

1) Politics always create strong reactions. So even if someone doesn't think the parody is well written, but they agree with the sentiment, they'll probably still vote it up.

2) William Tong has had his own website for around 5 years, and does post links back here for the people who visit his site to vote here. It helps gain him a little extra exposure (as well gain this site more exposure and vice versa I hope)..

it doesn't mean though that people can't make the weekly or monthly voting ranks, because other people make it in there on a fairly regular basis. There are even weeks when he's not represented in the weekly counts at all..

I've always recommended passing around links to your parody once it's posted in order for people to help boost their vote counts. It also introduces more people to the site which is a good thing in my opinion.
