Subject: Original Songs

Written By: Junior on 10/19/02 at 08:52 a.m.

I'm wondering, has anyone else here written any original songs? I have a couple songs that I wouldn't mind sharing with you guys, and hopefully if you have any original lyrics you wrote, you wouldn't mind sharing.

NOTE: Unless noted otherwise, ALL songs listed in this thread by all authors/members are owned by them. You may not use any songs/lyrics from here without permission from the author(s).

Here are a few of my songs (lyrics only, I haven't actually put any of these songs to music yet, but have an idea of how they'll sound) :

All Used Up -- An alternative type song, about how you feel someone you trust has turned their back on you.

Freak Like Me -- A popular girl falls for an "outsider", and the outsider tells her that he's just not interested in her. I've been told that it the theme of the song is similar to that of "Skater Boi", by Avril Lavigne.

Llamas -- A humorous song I put together, dedicated to my schoolmates and their llama obsession.

The Cafeteria Sucks -- A song about how bad our cafeteria is - I wrote it in study hall, that's what boredom can get you.

Feeling Sorry For Myself -- A teen tries to talk himself out of depression. Personally, I think it's one of my better songs.

I Don't Belong -- You know you're not meant to be here. You just want to run away, go to your own kind.

Please share your songs!

I like your lyrics and your songs, Junior.  Unfortunately I am not real big on writing original songs... it's just not something I can do, and even if I try, I just don't enjoy doing it.  I'm more of a parody person ;)

I do write original stuff... but not for ages... it's been far too long, really.

I've written some original rap songs, but I haven't got nowhere to place them. I'll try Fanfiction.net to post them...

:) Thanks!

I actually find originals easier to do than parodies.

Also: I've got a few more songs that I might be posting soon, 2 are just ideas that I've been thinking about, and 3 others are in progress...

I've written more original songs than parodies. My only problem is that the only instrument I am in access of is a 37-key, dead-battery-operated keyboard that I don't yet have an adapter for. I hope to buy an adapter to my keyboard and maybe an elecric guitar (if not too expensive). Here is the link to a webpage that includes some of those songs (most of which have not yet been put to music):

There are plenty more where those ones came from, but those are my most appropriate songs.

Hey hey, if you like writing original songs and stuff, there's another site I am a member of that is for original songs (not set up as good as this one but its still cool) and they have contests and stuff. Check it out! If you sign up, leave a message saying you're from AmiRight so I can tell who ya are:

http://www.songwritersguild.netAnyway, their forum is a little messed right now but I think its a new one that I havent seen yet.

When I write original, they basically are forced to have a humorous bend to them.  I have written a few that were originals, but my limited knowledge of reading, playing, and composing music really inhibits my ability to do anything more than just pick a genre.  I find it commendable for anyone to be able to write a song, and as long as it means something to the author, that's what's important.

I've done a few - I think the most popular has been "Don't Do Drugs":

http://www.cix.co.uk/~philbo/allsongs.htm#Drugs

...though there's a few LRP (Live Roleplay) songs that go down well with the LRP crowd, e.g.

http://www.cix.co.uk/~philbo/allsongs.htm#Ghoulies
(which is a "true" story of an adventure I was on)

and another "true" story (well, it must be true, it was in the newspaper):
http://www.cix.co.uk/~philbo/allsongs.htm#Red Herring Blues

One of these days I'm going to get round to recording these when I'm playing in front of an audience... I did try with a little minidisc recorder once, but forgot to check I had an adequate supply of fully charged batteries :-(

Xander -- No Ambition and I'm Just The Messenger rock!

I just started writing all my songs in a book -- I just completed one called "Walk Through Me" (which should be up in a few days), and have several more that I'm working on.

hmm.. that site didn't resolve at all for me..

should I set up a seperate section for original songs? how well would that work if it's just lyrics?

Good idea, althought in the end, It's up to you. Just lyrics is okay as I sound crap performing them...I'm scarred for life after hearing me own version of Don't Shoot The Messenger...

I'm just clicking into this thread, so forgive me if this question's been answered:

Do we have to stick to any type of genre when posting new lyrics? Is Chuck adding this to Amiright?

Subject: Re: Original Songs

bump...plenty of songs in progress right now, coming soon..."Walk Through Me" is completed, I'll be adding it soon.

P.S: I'd appriciate it, and I'm sure Xander & other amIright artists who put up their songs at fanfiction.net would too, if you post reviews over at fanfiction.net!

I haven't added this yet.. but it does sound like a few people would like it..

I could probably add a section quite easily, if I just make it like another selection (instead of decade, select original).. but if it becomes too popular I'd be in trouble.. if I make it an entirely new section, it'll require a lot more work.. so I want to gauge intrest level before I go ahead and design this one..

I've got some more up in the pipeline. Some more serious stuff though. 'Teen Warfare' is kind of like a serious Teen Life. 'Putting Myself Down' is an autobiographical lyric and 'Fit Celebrity Women' ...erm...

Speaking from the point of view of the songwriter, that would be quite a cool idea, Chuck, yeah. Then a section, instead of votes out of five, say "Did you like this song, click here"
"Did you dislike this song, click here"

x people have voted that they like this song.

Do not mention that people disliked the song itself. Hating a person's sense of humour is one thing. Hating their writing style is one thing. Hating what they write is another. And hating the person is something else altogether.

So, say, for example, that I submitted my latest song, and people voted yes/no for it. Some people would vote yes, some would vote no, but the end screen would say "x people so far liked this song. See others".

Sorry, just an idea. Makes little sense, but...

I finished writing the lyrics to a song last night. As I continually say, I'm a musician, not a songwriter, so it isn't very good.

Two new songs:

Walk Through Me - Another song about feeling betrayed. I guess it could be considered the follow-up to 'All Used Up'.

Sister - Dedicated to a long time friend of mine.

More songs coming up: "Mouse Trap" (about a cheating girlfriend -- not a personal experience, though), "Always On My Mind" (dedicated to a friend who's moving away ), and more.

No Light - another angsty song about depression.

Pain Killers - about depression/betrayal/etc.

Raped Heart - feeling tortured by someone you love.

Sacrifice - a man is willing to do anything for his girl.

SelfEsteem - some people pull others down to bring themselves up.
