Subject: a crazy IDEA

Written By: loosekanen on 11/15/02 at 01:49 a.m.

Fellas (and ladies hiding) -

as i look at my clock and notice that it's 3:47 on a friday morning... and as i've finished only about half of my physics.... AND i'm eating peanut butter out of a jar with a fork..... I GET THIS IDEA.

Gentlemen wouldn't this be fabulous...

I don't know how many of you are musically talented (Lord knows mike and I aren't a regular billy joel and elton john) but wouldn't it be cool to possibly create a sort of "Amiright Greatest hits CD" where each of the top artists could record one of their songs... mix it however they wanted.... send it to a source... have it formatted on CDs, and then we could each have a copy... and who knows... maybe they'd sell off the site and we could give the proceeds to make sure the site stays up hassle free without annoying popups and the like.

Several questions I know will be asked have already popped into my head.... so here are my solutions to the thoughts.

1) I can't sing............. Sack up and do it or get one of your friends to do it=)
2) where would we mix this stuff..... well it's pretty easy actually with technology.... i'm sure you can all access some way to get your song on a CD. Demo tapes would probably work too.
3) who would be in charge of compiling the junk..... I've got a friend that does this stuff for fun and for experience, he could put it on his resume, and would do it for free... I'm positive of this. It's easy stuff to do, and we can always print more CDs.
4) who decides who gets to be on it..... WELL this is a little tougher. I imagine that, god, we'd have more than the standard CD-R 75 minutes or what have you. Maybe a little discussion here on those who would actually be willing to put in the miniscule time to get their recording on a CD and send it to Indiana.
5) I dunno.... that's what the board is for

Guys I just think it would be so awesome to have kenny's welcome to mcdonalds followed by a little puff the tragic drag act.... scrolling through the bong song... and then a little mailman malone. Questions.... comments... good idea.... bad idea.... i'm anxious to hear back from all of you.

I've been intending to do a higher-quality recording of Puff than I have so far (mike & guitar plugged into the computer): having played it for an audience a couple of times now, I might see if I can put the live recording kit together as I always seem to sound better when playing for a crowd rather than on my own, but my friendly sound engineer has moved away :-(

I've also made one or two minor changes to the lyrics so that it sings better.  I'll get round to updating it at some point.

Phil
PS It *would* be kind of a collector's item, wouldn't it?

Key loosekanen your idea is not all that crazy.  May I take the liberty to suggest some added ideas?

If the CD were compiled so that proceeds went to a charity (like VH1 Save the Music®), then maybe, just MAYBE, we could get some charity-minded recording artists to do the recordings.

(Maybe you could even get some sponsorship from Bit-O-Honey who could include an ad using my recent ad jingle parody  :D )

There are a few fun-loving artists who might just do that.  I'm thinking of like a Gwen Stefani of No Doubt, Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters (and Nirvana), Uncle Kracker, and, of course, maybe even Weird Al Yankovic.

Maybe this sounds like fantasy, but many successes start with a crazy idea.

Interesting idea.  My recording capabilities consist of a karaoke machine, some wires hooked up to a stereo, and a really bad singing voice :)

I actully thought Of this a little while ago, but I thought "how the hell would we do it though"
I know Phil and Tong have recorded versions of some of their songs...I think Wolveroses does too...
anyway, my crappy guitar playing aint really that good...but my harmonica playing is excellent (I dont have any parodies with harp though)..my singing sucks too....and I dont know how I would record it.....
but, I have a friend who is a singer/songwriter, and can sing, and play 7 different instruments...maybe I can convince him to sing lead on one of my songs, and play instuments on it...(He agreed to it once before, but nothing ever came of it.)...but I still dont know how we would do it....

I think my submission would be either:
Wh*re on the corner
everyday A**holes
or even
Pork the other white meat
or
I really cant dance
or something like that

That would be righteous!
I would probably record "Backstreet Sucks", "Papa Roach", of course it would come out being "BONG SONG"

I also did a recording of my duet with Larry Barerra, "Mr Deeds," There was even a cheep video made for that one,  :), but otherwise, what songs Id chose to be on this fully comprised CD, I dont know, but Im open for suggestions... ::)

And, for the actual album, the last track should be an all-star playing of "Amiright rhapsody!"  ;D

Methinks 'twould be nice if you could include our parody that salutes AmIRight's signature misheard lyric :)

Rice Cube and Watt Daddy (W. Diddy) - There's a Bathroom on the Right

My two cents are in, hope it pans out :D

no, it should end with Whats going on the all star parody jam...but then we would all have to record together

I have a recording studio and my band is gonna do some parodies. First of all, to get permission to sell them you need permission from the owner of the music I believe. Weird Al shows everyone who is affiliated with the song... like George Lucas, etc.

Now to pick a song to do...

And even though it is easy, some people arent very good at recording... I wouldn't count on getting too many good quality parodies recorded, but count me in.

Well that can be another track, it is one done by all, but mine sums up amiright over the last few months, "Whats going on," is just an awsome parody written by everyone...

Loosekanen came up with this idea on his own, but we have been talking this over for some time now.  I think it's a great idea, but we do need people who are dedicated to getting something done, and staying on top of things.  I know that he is willing to "supervise", if you will, but it's going to take a strong individual effort on everyone's part.  As for the idea of getting charity minded musicians to do this, I think that's a great idea, and I completely agree that nothing happens unless you take the chance.  I'd like to hear more people's opinions on this...how badass would it be to hear some of your favorite musicians singing YOUR LYRICS.  That would be so awesome.  If we decide to actually do this, I volunteer to stay on top of doing my best to contact the artists via whatever means necessary, I'm good at nagging.  One more thing to think of... if we do this... I'm thinking 17-18 songs maximum.  That's all that will fit on a CD.  So, we will have to narrow down the field a bit.  Just food for thought.

Mike

Alright people. If you are interested drop me an email at Jordonian@hotmail.com

Please include 1 or 2 songs you are thinking of. I will have some time over Xmas to compile so lets get the ball rolling.

I will post results of emails in 7 days. if we have too many people then we will have to whittle somehow, if we don't have enough we might be able to get two apiece on it. get cracking... let's make a CD

basically i need a band i don't think me singing a capella is really going to cut it. i also have no recording equipment at the moment. But i did sing some songs on the return bus ride from lisbon - ¨its my lice¨, ¨flashlight¨ and ¨underneath your toes¨ and they were pretty well received theere might be a chance i could get an impromptu band for this.

Oh shoot..Im not going to be able to do this yet....I dont have a band ready, or time available (why do you think I havent written a new parody in like 2 weeks)

the only time that Im gunna even have a chance of getting a band and everything is around Christmas...and I have to make sure we learn the songs by then......plus, depending upon the song, I might need a instruments that I dont know anyone that plays...this is tooo soon....Plus it wouldnt be me singing lead on it, cause Im a bad singer...plus I haave no real way of recording it....

damn, can we put this off for a little while...like do this maybe like over the next year instead of the next month?

This doesn't need to be a one-time deal. I'm a college student that doesn't like to sleep. I can put in 20 hour days and be fine... plus every break i have i can work on the CD (s??) I'm just trying to get a start out. If you have a song that isn't a flat out rock song.... i'm sure you have a friend that plays the guitar or the piano... check into that. Jeff Buchoff has replied with his entry... I'm waiting for more. The first CD doesn't have to be the last. Keep those emails coming.

I think all he's after right now are people to e-mail him telling him that they want to do it, and what song they want to do.  Don't necessarily need to have it done right away, but he's just trying to get the wheels rolling... I think.

Sounds like a good idea but it would be hard to get all songs at the same quality and where would the money go. A friend of mine is on an independant label if that would work.

I need 1 more vote to get 100 votes total on all of my songs so if some one could just vote on of my songs I would greatly appreciate it.

i just did a really bad recording of "Episode 2 (See Yoda fight)" with me singing and playing guitar.....it isnt good enough quality, and you can really tell Im a bad singer and a sucky guitar player....im gunn ahave to re-record it if I was to do that one, but Id like to do Pork the other white meat with a whole band (but Idont know if thats gunna happen)

hey that is an excellent idea, as for legal reasons i dont know but if you cant sell them why not create a place on the site where writers can submit recorded versions of there songs and that way you wouldnt be making money off of it thus making completely legal.
