Come on, did you guys really not like that one...I though it was funny if nothing else, but the funny ratings like a 1.8...it always seems that the songs I like best dont do well, and the ones I consider fillers are number 1 hits... ;)

I know what you mean: nearly all my biggest and best voting results are from ten-minute lightweight songs (e.g. Hit the Prozac/I Hate Britney Spears), whereas some of the better constructed and cleverer/wittier numbers (Script for a Jest in Here, Sixteen Buns) don't seem to get the votes in the same numbers - I thought Sixteen Buns was much funnier than most of my songs, but "I Hate Britney Spears" which doesn't have anything like as much humour in it gets better votes.

To summarize: enjoy your own work for the pleasure it gives you, take heart when you write something that strikes a chord with Joe Public out there, but realize that sometimes people just don't get it.

Phil
PS There's also a definite schism between what works as an amiright parody, and what works as a song to perform: for example, played live at the weekend, both Sixteen Buns and Thunderthighs went down much better than Puff The Tragic Drag Act (which outscores both of them put together).

Put Britney Spears in the title, and add ten votes to the song =)

What kind of places do you perform (that's pretty cool)

Hey now...I thought this wasn't about votes, but about creativity. Some people wouldn't know 'clever' if it hit them over the head...then again, the one song that no one would think would get one vote tops the list- just like 'I Hate Britney Spears.' I only wrote that Britney Spears parody to tick of Chris Bodily TM. I didn't think it would have such a following. The voting public is fickle that way 8)

Maybe that's why there's so many BS parodies around: we've seen they get the votes, so we write more of them...

..I guess that was aimed at me: so far either at friends' or round the campfire at LRP events.  I've done a couple of stag nights, and various impromptu parites.  I intend to play pubs & clubs more regularly, but don't have the time at present.
