Subject: Quiz on a song famous for misheard lyrics

Written By: Jay_F on 12/10/02 at 12:32 a.m.

In 1977 there was a #1 pop hit that had the lyrics "midnight fantasy".For some reason,a lot of people thought the lyric said "midnight tennessee".I can remember being on a school bus at the time,a big debate broke out.Half of the kids thought it was "fantasy" and the other half thought it was "tennessee".I was on the wrong side, looking back I have to wonder what I was thinking? What would "midnight tennessee" mean? That makes no sense.

We disagreed on the lyrics, but we all loved the song.Great example of a fun pure pop 70s hit.Can anybody on here name it?

It's a male artist. He was a one hit wonder. He was also a songwriter."Pop" is truly the best description. It was a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100,but rock stations didn't touch it,so it's not classic rock by any means. No radio station of any format would play this song today.

Too easy.  It's "Undercover Angel" by Alan O'Day.  Remember it well.  Still have the 45.
