Subject: Unintelligible songs

Written By: Goreripper on 12/16/02 at 07:19 p.m.

As I don't post on this forum much, just thought I'd ask if there's one song (in English  :)) that you can never understand. Mine is "Scar Tissue" by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit" can be somewhat un-understandable sometimes.

the worst part is that all the songs mentioned already, I know the lyrics too.....Loueie Louie is proabably the easiest to understand if you listen, but anyway...
the obvious answer would be everything by Dylan, but thats because he mumbles..do you mean that you cant understand what hes saying, or the lyrics dont make sense?

if its lyrics, then everything by the chili peppers could work....their lyrics are random..I still dont know what "FIrst born unicorn" and " Hard core soft porn" have to do with each other.
REM is random at times too...especially their early stuff.....
whether anyone realizes it, Blinded by the light, and Walk this way are not random, both those songs lyrics make sense....just think about them......hmmmm...I am the Walrus or Glass Onion by the Beatles are probably the most random I cant think of...maybe Everybodys got something to hide except for me and my monkey too.

the first one I think of is the also the Peppers but the song "Give it Away" had to read the lyrics before I understood it...but I love their music just the same! :)

Yes I forgot about "Give it Away", but I was able to pick up the words to that after a few listens. I still have no idea what Anthony's talking about in "Scar Tissue".

Chris Cornell's lyrics are like this too. The lyrics for most Soundgarden songs are bewildering. But my question was, which songs sound like gibberish when you listen to them?

Scar tissue that I wish you saw
Sarcastic mister know it all
Close your eyes and I’ll kiss you ’cause
With the birds I’ll share
With the birds I’ll share
This lonely view
With the birds I’ll share
This lonely view

Push me up against the wall
Young Kentucky girl in a push-up bra
Fallin’ all over myself
To lick your heart and taste your health ’cause
With the birds I’ll share
This lonely view...

Blood loss in a bathroom stall
Southern girl with a scarlet drawl
Wave good-bye to ma and pa ’cause
With the birds I’ll share
With the birds I’ll share
This lonely view
With the birds I’ll share
This lonely view

Soft spoken with a broken jaw
Step outside but not to brawl
Autumn’s sweet we call it fall
I’ll make it to the moon if I have to crawl and
With the birds I’ll share
This lonely view...

Scar tissue that I wish you saw
Sarcastic mister know it all
Close your eyes and I’ll kiss you ’cause
With the birds I’ll share
With the birds I’ll share
This lonely view
With the birds I’ll share
This lonely view...

I must say until I looked this up I only knew the chorus....

Cocteau Twins - most of their earlier records were sung in a made up language

Sigur Ros - ditto

My Bloody Valentine - Lyrics in middle of distorted guitars impersonating whales

The Fall - Drunken Mancunian slurring into tape recorder

I was thinking of writing a parody to the Ying Tong Song (by the Goons), making it a Will Tong Song... except that apart from the "Ying tong tiddle eye po" words, the rest is totally incomprehensible ;-)

Have you had the pleasure of hearing "Like a Rolling Stone" by The Living Voices? Their version is over 6 minutes long, and as I like to say, they give you the "english translation". I never really knew the words of that song until I heard this version. Sad song, ain't it?
I heard this on a CD called "Soft, Safe & Sanitized", which features easy listening versions of rock songs. (Including Julie London singing "Louie, Louie", by the way"  ??? )

No I havent heard the Living voices version, but Like a rolling stone is probably one of his more understandable ones...Have you ever heard him sing "The Hurricane"...I think hes going faster than Michael Stipe in "Its the end of the world as we know it" or how bout "Subteranian Homesick blues", or a number of other ones......how bout "knocking on heavens door"...if I didnt look up the lyrics I woul dnever have known them..I though the first line was "mamma take this b*stard ring"..I never understood that..and GNR's version didnt really help with clearity either....nether did Claptons
