Subject: So I'm starting to work with the voting data again

Written By: ChuckyG on 12/31/02 at 02:51 p.m.

I was going to post a page, listing every song to make the weekly top ten... the way some people belly-ache, you'd swear it's impossible to make the top 10..

so I write a quick script to do the weekly ten funniest.. turns out, there's 1081 different parodies which made the weekly top ten over the past two years.. there's 6115 parodies on the site. So you have a 1 in 6 chance of making the weekly top ten.

monthly on the other hand.. is much tougher.. only 365 parodies have made it to the top ten in the monthly charts..

and the ones you know are the toughest to get into.. the "since the begining of time" charts.. the top ten funniest for that chart has only seen 36 different parodies.

I can't really post pages with a thousand links on them, so I guess a page showing every song to make the weekly top ten isn't going to happen.. I can however list in this post the 36 songs that made the top ten overall..

this is just the funny top ten overall.. I'm too lazy to do the rest.. I'm more interested in trying to find a few useful ways to mine this data better...

sorry it wasn't sorted.. and s-l-u-t is of course filtered making one of those titles look really funny..

I will come up with more interesting looks at the data the longer I work with this stuff.. wish I hadn't slept in my prob and stats course in high school..

and as I work on the parody authors page.. I just noticed (via a bug that I just fixed).. that William Tong has never had a song in the all time voting results reach the top ten.. he's got one at around 14 right now, and probably more than anyone else in the all time top 50's.. but no top ten.. which is quite surprising...

why dont you mark next to the link to the song or on the page with the song on it that the parody made the top ten, and how it did on the top ten...maybe by its voting results just to give people a better idea of the song rather than them having to go to a page...

I want to avoid using the voting data like that, because it encourages people to artificially inflate their vote counts, to gain more exposure on the site... when I used to put the voting totals on the front page of the site, people would constantly try and game the system...

I began working on something that would put how many weeks each song made each chart on the parody authors page.. but there was too much information, and it made the page too wide.. so I have to make an alternate page to display that info..
