hey, does anybody remember in 1985 when all those metal artists got together to do that we are the world thing after the real one..I think they called it Hearing aid or something..anyway, does anyone here know all the artists that were in that group..I know Ronnie James Dio was there, and I think the lead singer of the Scorpians was there, but I dont remember anyone else...does anyone know?

Wow!  I totally remember that!  I used a couple of different search engines and couldn't find a thing on it.  If you do, would you mind posting a link?  You've aroused my curiosity. :)

Yes, and you'll note that I was the one who supplied the answer then... :P

Okay, I'm feeling generous this evening, BF. :-) It just so happens I now own the Hear 'n Aid album on cassette. And you're in luck, as just below the photo of the supergroup on the cover is the complete list of all 40 people who participated, in alphabetical order:

01) TOMMY ALDRIDGE
02) DAVID ALFORD  (Rough Cutt)
03) CARMINE APPICE  (King Kobra)
04) VINNY APPICE  (Dio)
05) JIMMY BAIN  (Dio)
06) FRANKIE BANALI  (Quiet Riot)
07) ERIC BLOOM  (Blue Oyster Cult)
08 )MICK BROWN  (Dokken)
09) VIVIAN CAMPBELL  (Dio)
10) CARLOS CAVAZO  (Quiet Riot)
11) AMIR DERAKH  (Rough Cutt)
12) RONNIE JAMES DIO  (Dio)
13) DON DOKKEN  (Dokken)
14) KEVIN DuBROW  (Quiet Riot)
15) BRAD GILLIS  (Night Ranger)
16) CRAIG GOLDY  (Giuffria)
17) CHRIS HAGER  (Rough Cutt)
18 )ROB HALFORD  (Judas Priest)
19) CHRIS HOLMES  (W.A.S.P.)
20) BLACKIE LAWLESS  (W.A.S.P.)
21) GEORGE LYNCH  (Dokken)
22) YNGWIE MALMSTEEN
23) MICK MARS  (Motley Crue)
24) DAVE MENIKETTI  (Y&T)
25) DAVE MURRAY  (Iron Maiden)
26) VINCE NEIL  (Motley Crue)
27) TED NUGENT
28 )EDDIE OJEDA  (Twisted Sister)
29) JEFF PILSON  (Dokken)
30) DONALD "BUCK DHARMA" ROESER  (Blue Oyster Cult)
31) DAVID ST. HUBBINS  (Spinal Tap)
32) RUDY SARZO  (Quiet Riot)
33) CLAUDE SCHNELL  (Dio)
34) NEAL SCHON  (Journey)
35) PAUL SHORTINO  (Rough Cutt)
36) DEREK SMALLS  (Spinal Tap)
37) ADRIAN SMITH  (Iron Maiden)
38 )MARK STEIN  (Vanilla Fudge)
39) GEOFF TATE  (Queensryche)
40) MATT THORR  (Rough Cutt)

Note that only 36 of the above 40 actually appear in the album cover photo (refer to that pic at the Geocities site you found) - and no, Klaus Meine (or any other members of the Scorpions, for that matter) wasn't among them, although the band did contribute a live version of "The Zoo" to the final album...

According to the album's liner notes, the song "Stars" was recorded by the group on May 20-21, 1985, but the single wasn't released until April of '86, w/ the Hear 'n Aid album following two months later, in June. (There was also a "making of..." documentary video issued.) So why it took almost a year to get it on the market is beyond me...

At any rate, that should answer all of your q's... :-)

Heehee, bow down... (j/k) :P

Seriously, though, I don't mind investing the time researching/typing up lengthy answers to q's like yours, as long as the original poster is willing to at least acknowledge the work involved, as you have this time. :-) But unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who just seem to disappear into thin air once they get the info they requested... :-(
