my and my friends are going insane trying to find the artist of the song, we only have these lyrics to go on, it's probably a 70's or early 80's song

Your "mystery song" is most likely "Melody" by Boys Brigade, a minor hit here in the U.S. in the Winter of '84. The group was Canadian, and the song was actually produced by Geddy Lee of Rush. It was off their 1983 album, simply titled Boys Brigade. Unfortunately, the album is long out-of-print, and has never been re-issued on CD here in the U.S...
