Subject: Amiright Hall Of Fame?

i dont know if this already been a topic, but Amright has got some great parody authors, and some up and coming legends in the making. shoudlnt there be a way to commemorate there accomplishments?

We could draft some sort of process to elect maybe 3 or 4 a year?? A large process would need to be drafted to facilitate this, though. Maybe a "Lifetime Acheivement Award" at the amiright.com awards and then a place to commemorate these award winners would suffice as a bit of a "hall of fame"

well, i assumed that the parody artist list was kind of like a hof, but I guess not....

the RNR hall inducts people 25 years after their first album, andd the baseball hall, 5 years after retiring, so there would probably have to be a time period (like a year or something) that this artist would have had to have posted over before he/she is considered..plus they would have to have had significant contributions to this site parody wise....The first authors that posted on the newly formed amiright (and are still here) probably should get the nod first...so that would mean STG, Tong, Mike and I, and I think Darkjon was one of the first...you can figure it out by looking at the parodies entered by date thing....what about the people that posted at inthe80s when there were parodies there?  Jeff Buchoff had "I got to pee now" there, but then didnt start posting here again till 2001, what about him.....anyway, just a sugestion

I'd like to nominate the guy who did the "Pi" song.  That dude is my hero ;)

I think it should not be a volume thing, but a quality thing that gets the person elected.

yeah, quality of the parodies has to be one of the biggest, but your going to have like a commitee of like maybe 5 to do it fairly.

I definitely agree that the 'qs', quality and quantity are big in determining some sort of hall of fame.  And, of course, there's needs to be some time stipulation set for when someone is eligible.  A year sounds fair to me.  And, of course, for this to happen, there has to be some sort of electing committee.  I think that would have to be Chuck's decision to decide who to put on that committee, but I for one would be interested.  I say we try to take steps to getting this accomplished, cuz it would be a great addition to the site.

If I'm not mistaken.. the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame members nominate the new members.. so I would need to start by nominating the original members I guess.

I think a board of three to begin with, and 2 new members every year would be a good time table. With the first two new members being elected next month. I'll try and come up with a list of eligable people for the founding three, and we'll let the board vote for them. They in turn can then select and vote in the next two members.

I think there should be minimum requirements, the first being time from first submission. The Rock 'n' Roll hall of Fame requires 25 years from when the first single is released with the original lineup. Clearly that's too long for our purposes. I think a year sounds about right, I was also thinking 18 months, but the parodies have only been going strong for two years now, so there wouldn't be many people eligable at 18 months.

The second requirement suggested was number of parodies submitted. While I'd like to think that's a good suggestion, I think it may be arbitrary.. Some of the most popular parodies submitted here, have been by authors who have submitted one or two parodies. Chris Pyhtila only submitted five, but without his first three, the idea for parodies on this site  would have probably never been put in my head. Napster Pie, the long running heavy-weight on the site, was by someone creditted as only Dave who never submitted another parody. Patrick H. Mines only submitted three, and he's in the top 10 overall.

I also hesitate to use voting results, because we've seen a lot of abuse of that process lately. I'm not even sure if I can maintain the voting system much longer, without some sort of registration process for voters. I'm fairly confident most of the people in the overall voting results earned their votes the proper way, but I can't even be certain.

Some of the ones by Evan Heller were great too.  I think you definitely should look in terms of quality.  As for the others you mentioned, particularly Chris Pythila (the reason I found your site in the first place) I believe they would make excellent "founding members".  However, the fact that you haven't heard from them in forever probably means they won't make a good committee for inducting new members.

I think Tong, STG and Philbo should be considered as well, as they have contributed boatloads of parodies, some of which are actually decent :)  <-- kidding, they're pretty darn good.

true.. I don't think people who aren't active members could be relliable enough for voting on new members.. maybe a clause about having at least x amount of new parodies each year?

I actually like Mike Florio's idea that if a song comes along that is of high quality, then there might be a provision for a special achievement award for that song only...kinda nice for those of us who don't pump out a dozen parodies a week ;)

well im gonna say that for the first nominations or whatever, it should definately be the original greats.

Here's my idea:

a - There are two seperate sections - one for individual artists, and one for songs.
b - The board and the voting I totally agree with. Same for the having a number of parodies being set for the artists being inducted. However, for songs, the artist shall not have a certain number of parodies, since we do have some one-hit wonders with just ONE excellent parody.

Commentary:

S.T.G and Tong are definitely my picks for the first members. Other than that, I think Jim A, the Florios and Phil Alexander are other hopefuls. Plus, Royce Miller and Tone-Def too.
Perhaps we get the founder of the site, ChuckyG, a spot in the hall of fame?

Chucky, S.T.G, and William Tong. I could totally see this as the founding members. :D

Anyways, on songs...."Pi", "I've Got To Pee Now", the top Rhapsody parodies, "Osama Got Ran Over By A Reindeer", and "Bong Song" among others are my picks.

Considering that Junior and Lebeiw help you maintain the site (at least that's what I heard) perhaps they should get some special recognition too.

no no.. I'm going to set up the initial process, but I don't want to be on the voting board or anything..

and the Hall of Fame is strictly going to be for the parody authors.. the web editors get a call out on the front page of the site.. if they want more than that, I think they'd suggest something..

All sounds good, I'd support it.  I like the idea of separate songs/authors sections.  I don't know exactly when everyone came aboard, but Will Tong and STG seem to have been around the longest, have tons of parodies, and most are really good quality.  Basically echoing what everyone else has said here.

to find out exactly when everyone came you can look at the parodies by date entered section that Chuck installed (and very very very surprisingly youll see that STG came on the first day, and I came before Tong by one day, and Mike came the same day as Tong

actually, dates weren't added to the parodies for the first two or three months of amiright, so there's plenty of parodies that predate those pages..

I actually sent an email to William Tong to invite him to post his parodies on the site.. I was just looking for link exchanges at the time, but he liked the voting feature, and the extra exposure, so he's kept submitting the whole time..

I think S.T.G. predates his appearance on the site by a few weeks..

the site is always changing.. I used to only get a couple parodies a week, and used to cut and paste them from email into raw html by hand every day.. and before the parodies, there used to just be misheard lyrics..

ok.. so here's what I see shaping up:

1) Parody author induction
a] First parody to the site had to be over 1 year ago
b] Must have submitted over 25 parodies to the site
c] Must post at least 5 parodies each year to maintain voting membership to the Hall of Fame (you won't get removed from the hall of fame if you stop writing/submitting to the site, but you will not be allowed to vote in a year when you haven't been an activie participant to the site).
d] Nominated by five people to be voted on by the Hall of Fame board.
e] Each Hall of Fame member can chose (1) person to be voted on (if they want).
f] Elected by the members of the Hall of Fame.

2) Song induction
a] Song must have been on the site for over a year.
b] Song must be nominated for voting by 5 or more people
c] Hall Of Fame Members can select (1) song to be voted on (if they want).
d] Voting members of Hall of Fame will then vote on five songs for induction.

3) Initial Hall of Fame will be composed of 5 people, nominated by the website. The first five will then vote in the first five songs.

Does anyone have something I should add in?

I'm not sure about the numbers yet.. I guess each member would have five votes for the five people they would like to induct. The five with the highest scores would be the winners, with a vote off if there is a tie for the fifth place or something.

just for the songs....

the time period that must past for a song probably should be longer than a year, it just seems that that way you wont get a surplus of songs that could be nominated (i dont know if that made sense or not lol)....its 2003 now, and the parodies have been here since 2000, if you make it 2 years for songs then it might be easier, because honestly, what is this hall more for, the authors or the songs?  Only the best of the best songs should be in(meaning if any of mine get in it would be a travesty ;D )

Well I'm glad I still qualify. I have something that I'd like to adress though.

A lot of parody authors on this site are worthy of a "Hall of Fame" in my opinion. Lots of us are committed to the site and have sent in well over 100 parodies, its just that I find it would be hard to establish a way to decide whose are actually the best without completely overlooking some factors in parody writing. As for myself, I know I would be honored to be in the hall of fame, but I don't expect to be because I know a lot of the songs I parody are not well known songs.

Anyway, if possible, I would really like to help with the judging and examining of parody authors and deciding who deserves to make it. Well, let me know how its going to go down!

Jeff Buchoff

I imagine that Chucky will put together the board, hopefully we'll see something coming together soon!
